Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville, with burial at Kirbyville Cemetery. A native of San Antonio, she lived in Kirbyville most of her life. Survivors include a daughter, Maria Wilson of Kirbyville; a brother, Joe Talamantez of Beaumont; three sisters, Ann Conner of Massachusetts, Mencha Rocamontes of San Antonio and Concha Malina of Laredo; and one grandchild.

Oscar Alvarez, 71, of Kirbyville died Tuesday, February 26, 1991 at Jasper Memorial Hospital. Funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 28, at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Kirbyville Cemetery. A native of Cuba, he lived in Kirbyville 50 years and was retired from Kirby Industries. NEDERLAND – Funeral for Dorahle Banks Armistead, 76, is pending at Davis Funeral Home in Nederland. She died at 4:40 p.m. Monday in Mid-Jefferson County Hospital. A native of Warren, she lived in mid-county for 16 years. Survivors include three daughters, Laura West and Maxine Woods, both of Nederland, and Constance McCroskey of Beaumont; one son, Sam Armistead of Spring; one brother, J.D. Banks of Port Arthur, and one sister, Wolta Merritt of Kirbyville.

Dorothy Mae Arnold, 73, of Call died Dec. 18, 2001, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Kirbyville Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A native of Houston, she lived in Kirbyville 45 years and was owner of a bookkeeping and tax preparation business. Survivors include her husband, John Arnold of Call; son, Jerry Monroe Arnold of Silsbee; daughters, Nancy Lee Bishop of Kirbyville and Gail Stokes of Newton; brother, Mark William Penry of California; sister, Thelma Burkett of Indian Springs; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Frank James “Bubba” Arnold, III, 28, of Silsbee, died at 1 a.m. Friday in Silsbee Doctors Hospital from electrical shock received at East Texas Incorporated. He lived in Silsbee all of his life, graduating from Evadale High School, class of ’69. Bubba was Class Favorite, participated in football, baseball, track, Junior and Senior Play and the Regional One Act Play. Bubba was loved by everyone, and he didn’t mind helping anybody who needed help. He was an electrical foreman for Temple Associates, and a member of the All Souls Catholic Church. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today in the Farmer Funeral Home with the Rev. Father R.W. Bolich, pastor of the All Souls Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Oliver, Fred Samford, Jr., Johnny Baldwin, Don L. Arnold, Jay Fletcher and Hollis Slaughter. Honorary pallbearers will be Craig Miears, Gerald F. Fitzpatrick, Clyde Cole, Bobby Brown, Harold Burrell and Don Geisendorff. He is survived by his wife, Hilda Arnold; two daughters, Catina and Chrissan Arnold, all of Silsbee; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Arnold, Jr.; three sisters, Frankie Harvill of Silsbee, Agnes Hall of Kirbyville and Becky White of Woodville; his grandparents, Mrs. Agnes Arnold of Silsbee and Mr. and Mrs. Barney Burch (of Kirbyville); and a half-sister, Mrs. Millard James Long of Houston.

Amis Rae Thompson Anderson, 79, of Beaumont died Monday, July 11, 1994 at St. Elizabeth hospital. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church with burial at 1 p.m. at Davis Cemetery in Beulah Springs under the direction of Kelly-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A native of Jasper, she lived in Beaumont most of her life and was a retired nurse. Survivors include her daughters, Gwenda Lynn Johnson of Sour Lake, Jacqueline Ray Liston of Houston, Helen Iris Peebles of Seabrook and Judy Gay Potts of Houston; sister, Iris McCraw of Fredericksburg; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

KIRBYVILLE – Viola LeBlanc Andress, 86, of Kirbyville died Saturday evening in the Buna Medical Center after an illness. A native of Hyatt, Tex., Mrs. Andress had lived in Kirbyville for the past 59 years. She is survived by four sons, Everett G. Andress of Longview, Earnest Andress of Orange, Earl Andress of Harrison, Ark., and Dague Andress of Orange; two daughters, Jewel Andress of Kirbyville and Edith Segura of Lumberton; three brothers, Herbert “Hub” LeBlanc of Kirbyville, Howard LeBlanc of Livingston and Archie LeBlanc of Albuquerque, N.M., three sisters, Ruth Gilchriest of Cleveland, Jodie Hatchell of Kirbyville and Nan Hatchell of Buna; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with the Rev. don Warden officiating. Interment will be in Kirbyville Cemetery with pallbearers Sugie Christian, Pete Cowart, Elmo Dubose, Buck Herndon, Jerry Nobles and Elton Pryor.

Darl Arrant, 52, of Gilmer died Jan. 30, 2000 at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grubbs-Lloyd Funeral Home in Diana with a graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lewis Chapel Cemetery near Kirbyville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A native of Houston and a former resident of Beaumont, he lived in Gilmer, was a horologist and a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his son, Keithan Arrant of Diana; daughter, Wendy Boroughs of Lone Star; twin brother, Earl Arrant of Orange; sisters, Bessie McNeely of Brookeland, Vennie Jones of Beaumont and Doris Shaver of Woodville; and two grandchildren.

Autrey, Rev. Cecil Milton
Funeral services for the Rev. Cecil Milton Autrey, 73, of Pine Grove, Newton County, and a former Sulphur resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Bleakwood Cemetery. He died about 3 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 1972 in the Newton County Memorial Hospital. He was a minister in the United Pentecostal Church and was a carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ophelia Pierce Autrey, of Newton; four daughters, Mrs. Cecil Toarmina and Mrs. Tommie Aldrich, both of San Jose, Calif., Mrs. Charlie Ann McPherson, San Francisco and Mrs. Jean Theiss, Denver, Colo.; two sons, Herman Autrey, Nederland and Herb Autrey, Sulphur; four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services for Ophelia Katherine Autrey, 77, of Newton, were held Wednesday, March 5 at 2 p.m. in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with the Rev. Royer of Call United Pentecostal Church officiating. Burial was in the Bleakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Autrey died at 8 a.m. in Mixson Memorial hospital after a long illness. She was a native of Bancroft, La. and a Pentecost.
Survivors include two sons, Herman Autrey of Orangefield and H.W. Autrey of Newton; four daughters, Cecil Toarmina and Tommie Aldrich, both of San Jose, Calif., Jean Theiss of Denver, Colo., and Charlie A. McPherson of San Francisco; one brother, Drew Pierce of Nacogdoches.

Achord, Lula Marshall
Lula Marshall Achord, 87, of Kirbyville died Jan. 26, 2000 at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Hill Cemetery in Jasper under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. A native of Lawton, Okla., and a former resident of Port Arthur, she lived in Kirbyville 25 years and was a retired self-employed hair stylist. Survivors include her son, Leon David Neely of Kirbyville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Elmer E. (Dick) Adams, 61, died Monday, October 2, 1972 at 4 p.m. in a Beaumont hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Roganville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery near Roganville. Adams was a native of Roganville and a lifetime resident of Jasper County. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mildred Wilson Adams, Roganville, three sons, James E. Adams, Lufkin, Charles M. Adams, Livingston, and Hugh D. Adams, Buna; three daughters, Mrs. Bill Fondren, Lumberton, Mrs. John Gilbert and Mrs. John Turpin, both of Mineral Wells; his mother, Mrs. Arthur Adams, Center; three brothers, J.W. Adams, Vidor, Hubert Adams, San Diego, and Alton Adams, Kirbyville; five sisters, Mrs. Claude Sanford and Mrs. Norris Andrews, both of Center, Mrs. Russell Woods, Jasper, Mrs. Lee Yawn, Jacksonville, and Mrs. Audie Green, Joaquin.

Adams, Elmer Lee
Elmer Lee Adams, 88, of Kirbyville died Dec. 8, 2000, at his residence. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Kirbyville Cemetery. A native of Bryan, he lived in Kirbyville most of his life and was a farmer. Survivors include his nephews and nieces, Harvey Adams of Huntington, J.B. Collier and Everette Collier, both of Port Neches, Webb Collier of Sulfur, La.; Bertha Parker of Kirbyville and Verna Mae Williamson of Vidor, as well as five other nieces and nephews.

Judge Adams dies at age 67; rites Thursday
JASPER – Former Jasper County Judge T. Gilbert Adams, whose political career spanned four decades, died early Tuesday in Jasper Memorial Hospital. Hospital officials said Adams was dead on arrival at Memorial about 5:30 a.m. Though cause of death is not yet known, Adams had been suffering from a coronary condition for a number of years. Adams, 67, resigned as Jasper County’s chief official in December citing health reasons. At the time, Adams said he planned to devote more time to his law partnership with son, Sen. Don Adams. He first served Jasper County as county attorney from 1942 to 1952. Adams went on to be elected district attorney until 1954. Adams was elected county judge in 1966 – a post he served until December. Adams was past president of the Jasper Hospital District board of trustees, the Jasper Chamber of Commerce and the Jasper Kiwanis Club. He also served on the East Texas Baptist College board of directors. From 1952 to 1965, Adams was president of the First State Bank of Jasper. In 1965, he and his son formed their law partnership in the town. Adams was born in 1906 in San Augustine County. His father, F.P. Adams, served as state district court judge. Adams attended Baylor University Law School and graduated from Cumberland University in Tennessee. Funeral for Adams will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery under he direction of Stringer-Ward Funeral Home. A number of state dignitaries, including Rep. Buddy Temple, D-Diboll, and fellow legislators of Sen. Adams will attend. A prayer for the former Jasper County official was recited during the Tuesday legislative session in Austin. Survivors include Adams’ wife, Dess Hart Adams; two sons, Don Adams of Jasper, and F.P. Adams III of Tyler; a daughter, Frances Sue Thomas of Westerville, Ohio; two brothers, F.P. Adams Jr. and Abel Adams, both of Jasper; three sisters, Ruth Walters of Tyler, Margie Strong of Maplewood, La., and Chrystene Williams of San Manteo, Calif, and five grandchildren.

Adams, Eli Douglas
Funeral services for Eli Douglas Adams, 83, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Causey's E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. The Rev. Oscar Bradford will officiate. Burial will be in the Zion Hill Cemetery on U.S. 96 North. He died at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 4,1971 in the Buna Medical Center where he had been for two weeks. A native of Texas, he lived here for 20 years and was retired from Gulf Oil. He was a member of Mount Union Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Olive Tarter Adams of Kirbyville.

Lola Mae Adams, 88, of Kirbyville died Friday, January 6, 1995 at Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper. Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Jasper with burial at Kirbyville Cemetery in Kirbyville. A native of Madisonville, she lived in Kirbyville most of her life and was a retired sales clerk with Mixon Brothers in Kirbyville. Survivors include her husband, Elmer Adams of Kirbyville; nieces and nephews.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Miriam Sheffield Adams, 82, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Friendship Church near Roganville with burial in the church cemetery under the direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. She died at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Green Acres Nursing Home in Center. She was a native of Friendship community. Survivors include five daughters, Thelma Sanford, Audie Green, and Margaret Andrews, all of Center; Geraldine Woods of Jasper and Christene Yawn of Jacksonville; three sons, Alton Adams of Kirbyville, J.W. Adams of Vidor and Hubert Adams of San Diego; two sisters, Ester Behannon and Lena Burnett, both of Roganville; three brothers, Marvin Sheffield of Kirbyville, Bruce and Bob Sheffield, both of Roganville.

Alford, V.E. “Punch”
Funeral services for V.E. “Punch” Alford, 62, of Kirbyville will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Kirbyville Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Bean Cemetery under the direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Alford died at 11 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 1973 in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. He had lived in Kirbyville since 1929 and was a timber inspector. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hilma Ruth West Alford; a daughter, Miss Deborah Kay Alford, Kirbyville; a brother, Wiley Alford, Kountze; and two sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Cartee, Kirbyville and Mrs. Lula Cole, Liberty.

Alford, Wiley C.
Wiley C. Alford, 65, died at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 1974 after being stricken suddenly while at work in Pineland. He was superintendent of contract logging for Temple Industries. He was a native of Yellowpine and had lived in Kountze 10 years. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Farmer Funeral Home of Silsbee. Surviving are his wife, Maxine Alford, and two sisters, Mrs. Vance Cartee of Kirbyville and Lula Cole of Liberty.

Allen, Aaron A.
Funeral services for Aaron A. Allen, 45, of the Bleakwood community will be announced by the E.E. Stringer Funeral Home of Kirbyville. Allen died about 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 2, 1965 of a heart attack while he and a son were cutting brush in a field at their home. Allen had lived in the Bleakwood area for many years. He was an insurance salesman. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Marie Joan Allen; two sons, Ronald and Donald Allen, all of Bleakwood; his father, W.A. Allen of the Fawil community; one sister, Mrs. James A. Herrin of Groves, and one brother, a seaman.

Adell Allen, 88, of Newton died Jan. 3, 2001, at Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Friendship Cemetery in Malvern, Ark., under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Newton. A native of Smith County, he lived in Newton 17 years and was a retired farmer. Survivors include stepsons, Richard Jacobs of Newton and Bob Jacobs and Edd Jacobs, both of Pine Bluff, Ark.; daughter, Rosie Kuhn of Liberty; six stepdaughters; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Viola Ruth Allen, 68, of Port Neches died Nov. 18, 2001, at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur. Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches with burial at Oak Bluff Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A native of Port Neches, she lived in Bleakwood 30 years before moving back to Port Neches and was a retired Newton Independent School District teacher. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Anne Allen of Port Neches; son, Mark Wayne Allen of Buna; brothers, Ray Henry Stefflen of Lacassine, La., and Barry Stefflen, Larry Stefflen and James J.
