Robbins, General Dewey
JASPER – Funeral for General Dewey Robbins, 76, of Jasper will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at J.O. Stringer Funeral Home with burial in Griggs Cemetery. He died at 5:50 p.m. Monday, February 11, 1980 at Jasper Memorial Hospital. A native of Sabine County, he had lived in Jasper 50 years and was a retired mechanic. Survivors include his wife, Maxie Robbins of Jasper; a son, G.D. Robins Jr. of Conroe; a daughter, Betty Jean Duckworth of Jasper; a sister, Ora Wright of Many, La.; and three grandchildren.

Robbins, Harold Duane
A 16-year-old Kirbyville youth was accidentally electrocuted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 1970 at the home of a friend. Harold Duane Robbins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Robbins of Kirbyville, was swimming at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L.J. “Mutt” Satterwhite about 2 miles east of Kirbyville on FM 363. Barefooted and wet, the youth leaned over an electric water pump to get a drink of water when an apparent short in the wiring caused the accident. He was knocked against the pump house and death was evidently instantaneous, according to Justice of the Peace Allen Hooks of Precinct Five and Dr. T.S. Whitecloud, who held the inquest. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Wesley Felps, pastor of the Deer Creek Baptist Church, and the Rev. Paul Gallion of the north Bon Ami Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Kirbyville Bean Cemetery under the direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Michael Wayne and Glenn E. Robbins of Kirbyville and his grandparents, Jodie A. Robbins and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Biscamp, all of Kirbyville.

Roberts, Carl Douglas
Funeral for Carl Douglas Roberts, 76, of Kirbyville will be at 11 a.m. today at Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with burial in Kirbyville Cemetery. He died Monday, February 1, 1988 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. A native of Spurger, he lived in Kirbyville 56 years and was a retired building contractor. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Stringer Roberts of Kirbyville; three daughters, Mary Beth Goss of Olympia, Washington, Carol Jean Dockery of Irvine, Calif., and Peggy Roberts of Lufkin.

Roberts, Elzie Sr.
Funeral services for Elzie Roberts, 75, will be at 2 p.m. today in Call United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Beech Grove Cemetery near Anacoco, La. Roberts died at 9 p.m. Friday, December 1, 1973 in his home. He was a native of Lincoln, N.C., and a retired carpenter. Roberts was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jewel Addison Roberts; one son, Elzie Roberts Jr., Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Mrs. Juanita Moon, Groves; three brothers, John Roberts, Grant, La., Worth Roberts, Kirbyville, and C.J. Roberts, Sun City, Arizona; four sisters, Mrs. Mamie Tachar, Orange, Mrs. Ruth Marcantel, Kinder, La., Mrs. Kathleen Daniels, Jasper, and Mrs. Pauline Martin, Beaumont.

Roberts, H.M. “Blackie”
H.M. “Blackie” Roberts, 68, died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, February 24, 1974 in a Jasper hospital after a long illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Kirbyville Central Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Kirbyville Cemetery under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. A native of Waco, he had lived here since 1947 and was a retired pipeline construction foreman. Survivors include his wife, Elnora Hill Roberts; one son, James Roberts of Houston; two daughters, Dot McKinley of Buna and Doris Dial of Houston; two brothers, Sidney and Dillard Roberts both of Denver, Colorado, and three sisters, Faye Childress of Proctor, Eva Newsome and Edna Vonatt, both of Dallas.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Anna Arthur Roebuck, 78, will be at 1 p.m. today in Call Junction Baptist Church with burial in Hemphill Cemetery under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. She died at 2:25 a.m. Monday in Bellaire General Hospital in Houston after an illness. A native of Jasper County, he was a former resident of Beaumont and had lived in Kirbyville 21 years. Survivors include her husband, Ed Roebuck; one foster daughter, Velma Williams of Houston; one step-daughter, Henderson Braneff of Vidor; three sons, Jett C. Arthur of New Orleans, Roland F. Arthur of Sacramento, Calif., and William S. Arthur of Houston, and two sisters, Erna Bolton of Orange and Fannie Preisler of Milwaukee, Wis.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Annie Gilley Roff, 60, will be at 2 p.m. today in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with burial in Bean Cemetery. She died about 10 p.m. Thursday in the John Sealey Hospital in Galveston A native of Hardin County, she lived here 45 years. Survivors include her husband, Hershel Roff; two brothers, Bergman Gilley of Silsbee and John Gilley, with the U.S. Army in Oregon; and one sister, Nancy Gilley of Liberty.

Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Trout Creek Cemetery. A native of Houston, he lived in Kirbyville 14 years and was a student at Kirbyville Independent School District. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Vickie and Gary Jacks of Kirbyville; father, Stephan Allan Rogers of Houston; grandparents, Maxine and Charles Erderly of Call, Katie Jacks of Call, and Ida Rogers of Houston; brother, Ben Rogers of Houston; stepbrother, Scott Jacks of Kirbyville; sisters, Tonisha Rogers of Kirbyville and Stephanie Wilson of Kirbyville.

Romero, Eula Marie
Eula Marie Romero, 83, of Kirbyville died Dec. 1, 2000, at her residence. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Home in Vidor with burial at Magnolia Springs Cemetery in Kirbyville. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. A native of Port Arthur, she lived in Kirbyville before moving to Vidor and was a former manager of housekeeping for Schlesinger Geriatric Center. Survivors include daughters, Connie Peters of Kirbyville and Doris Fontenot of Lake Charles, La.; brothers, Donald Ray Rogers of Hemphill and James O’Neil Rogers of Kirbyville; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mary Gladys Rose, 81, of Kirbyville died Sunday, December 14, 1986 at Avalon Place Nursing Home after an illness. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Kirbyville Church of Christ with burial in Davis Cemetery under the direction of Kirbyville Memorial Funeral Home. A lifelong resident of Kirbyville, she was a retired bookkeeper from Wood’s Drug Store. Survivors include her husband, Arthur Rose; a son, Jim Ed Rose; and a daughter, Peggy Ruth Stark, all of Kirbyville, three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Roser, Bevis
Funeral services for Bevis Roser, 60, of Call will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Call Junction Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Trout Creek Cemetery under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. He died at 10 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 1973 in a Beaumont hospital. Roser was a lifelong resident of the area and a retired oil field worker. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lucille McKenzie Roser; one brother, R.C. Roser of League City, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Daisy McKinley of Kirbyville, Mrs. Lucille Grammier of Houston and Mrs. Louise Roy of Silsbee.

Ross, Rev. Delbert L.
The Reverend Delbert L. Ross, 78, of Buna died Monday, March 20, 1995 at Silsbee Doctors Hospital. Funeral was held Wednesday, March 22 at Parkwood Missionary Baptist Church in Buna with burial at Mitchell Cemetery near Burkeville under the direction of E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Buna. A native of Newton County, he lived in Buna Many years and was a minister. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include sons, Herbert Ross and Leslie Ross, both of Buna; daughter, Debera Ross of Buna; brothers, Dewey Ross of Del Rio and A.P. Ross of Tyler; sisters, Odell Sutton and Lozell Herrington, both of Burkeville; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for James E. Ross, 73, of 502 E. Curtis in Orange will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Claybar Funeral Home with Rev. W.A. Rashall of Silsbee officiating. Burial will be at Bean Cemetery in Kirbyville. He died at 10 p.m. Monday, September 3, 1979 at Orange Memorial Hospital after an illness. A native of Jasper County, he was a former resident of Kirbyville and had resided in Orange for the last 22 years. He was a retired carpenter for the Riverside Housing Corp. in Orange. Survivors include one stepson, Lewis Clayton Long Sr. of Orange; three grandchildren, Lewis C. Long Jr., Kelli Lynn McCauley and Page Lee McCauley, all of Orange; one sister, Annie Elizabeth Lott of Vidor; two stepsisters, May Smith of Beaumont and Elvie Smith of Newton; one foster sister. Ora May Richards of Silsbee. Pallbearers are Jimmy McKenney, Collis Rashall, Jerry Shackelford, Johnny Bean Reeves, Allen Green and Paul West. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Nathan Lott.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for William Otis Roy, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today in Kirbyville Church of Christ with burial in the Kirbyville Cemetery under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Roy died at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Jasper Memorial Hospital. A native of Nacogdoches County, he had lived in the area 42 years and in Kirbyville for 18 years. He was a retired still man for Gulf Oil Corp. Survivors include his wife, Irene Denman Roy; two sons W.C. Roy of Silsbee and P.M. “Bill” Roy of Galveston; two daughters, Virginia Burnett of Brownfield and Gertrude Oglesby of Kirbyville, and one sister, Ella Roy of Nacogdoches.

Rutledge, Thomas E.
Mr. Thomas E. Rutledge, 66, of Magnolia Springs, Texas was born near Jasper, Texas on November 27, 1922. He died on December 15, 1988 after a long illness. A Christian man of great conscience and courage, Tom lived every day to its fullest. His days were devoted to his wife LaValle, Son Michael, daughter Sharon Ann, his community, and his farm. He walked closest to God when he worked and tilled the land. His first and foremost charge as a witness for Christ was to put his neighbor first and to see to the needs of others. His membership and ministry through the Magnolia Springs Methodist Church gave him the leadership ability to serve the Lord faithfully. That faithfulness gave his soul a zest and joy for life and a cheerful smile for all. He never met a stranger. A four year Marine Veteran of World War II, Thomas E. Rutledge believed in leaving this world a much better place than the world he found. That attitude of betterment and concern left an indelible mark on all those impressed with his vigorant energy. Tom’s farm served as a ministry of bulwark support to all those who needed food and sustenance. His love for the land and the life it represented enabled him to do as the Apostle Paul stated, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” Thomas E. Rutledge, your family, friends and neighbors will miss you terribly. However, the immortality of your spirit will abide with us all of our days. He is survived by his wife, LaValle Rutledge, and son, Michael Rutledge, both of Magnolia Springs; his daughter, Sharon Ann Henderson of Groves; brothers, William Rutledge of Natchitoches, Louisiana and Arthur Rutledge of Magnolia Springs; his grandchildren, Jacqueline Ann and Timothy Nicholas Henderson of Groves, and Elizabeth Ann and Amber Lorene Rutledge of Magnolia Springs. Funeral services for Mr. Rutledge will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 1988 at the Magnolia Springs Methodist Church with burial in Magnolia Springs Cemetery, under the direction of E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville. Officiating will be Rev. Gideon Watson, pastor of Magnolia Springs Methodist Church. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Rutledge, Thomas A. Rutledge, Curtis Washington, John Beath, David Bowers and Ray Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be George Robicheaux and Henry S. Monk.

Visitation will begin at noon Monday at the funeral home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Kirbyville. Survivors include her husband, Hardy Ryles of Kirbyville; two nephews; and one niece.

KIRBYVILLE – Graveside services for Rosie Estelle Ryles, will be today at 2 p.m. in Antioch Cemetery under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. She died Friday at 3 p.m. in the Buna Medical Center after a long illness. A native of Kirbyville, she had been a lifelong resident of this area. Survivors include three daughters, Lillie Ross of San Augustine, Tex., Mamie Erwin and Mary Ellen Leavings both of Kirbyville; three sons, Robert Ryles of Conroe, Tex., Hardy Ryles and Jessie Ray Ryles both of Kirbyville; three sisters, Hallie Drake and Minnie Drake both of Buna and Dorothy Haire of Silsbee; and three brothers, Archie Wallace of Buna, Eddie Wallace of Hemphill and Jessie Wallace of Port Neches.
