Bailey, Lois Muckelroy
Funeral services for Mrs. Lois Muckelroy Bailey, 51, of Kirbyville, will be held at 10 a.m. today in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. in the Neuville Cemetery in Shelby County. Mrs. Bailey was killed instantly about 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 12, 1973 when her car was struck broadside by a northbound Sante Fe freight train. The accident occurred about 1 ˝ miles north of Kirbyville on the Bonami Road. She was alone in the car. An inquest was held at the scene by Justice of the Peace Marvin Dowden, Dr. John T. Moore and Patrolmen Odis Lane and Ronnie McBride. Also present was Carlton Cook with the office of the District Attorney. A native of Patroon in Shelby County she had lived here 24 years. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. D.R. Brasher, Jasper; three sons, Roy, Jim, and Carroll Bailey, all of Kirbyville; and a sister, Mrs. H.R. Maynard, Fort Worth.

Bailey, Lottie Siegler
Funeral for Lottie Siegler Bailey, 86, of Kirbyville was held November 7 at Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Buna with burial in Bean Cemetery in Kirbyville. She died Tuesday, November 4, 1986 at Buna Medical Hospital after an illness. A native of Grant, Louisiana, she lived in the Kirbyville-Buna area 58 years and was a retired Sales clerk. Survivors include a daughter, Etah Hacker of Houston; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.

Kirbyville wreck victim in satisfactory condition
KIRBYVILLE- One man remained hospitalized Saturday after being injured in a car collision Friday night in Kirbyville that killed another. Roger Ames, 27, of Chester remained in satisfactory condition Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Corky Ballard, a 19-year-old crane operator from Kirbyville, died Saturday at Jasper Memorial Hospital shortly after midnight, authorities said. Ames was a passenger in Ballard’s car.
The accident occurred about 11 p.m. Friday in downtown Kirbyville, a few blocks west of U.S. 96, police officer A.T. Cole said. Ballard apparently was driving west on West Main Street when he tried to pass another car that was turning left at the Barrow Street intersection, Cole said. Ballard’s car glanced off the other car, veered left from the street and struck a tree, Cole said. Rescuers used a Jaws of Life to remove Ballard. Ames and another male passenger from the car, who was not injured. None of the four people in the other car suffered serious injuries, Cole said.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Bertie Donna Barrow Bankston, 65, will be at 3 p.m. today in the Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with burial in Bean Cemetery. She died at 8:15 p.m. Saturday in St. Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur. A native of Jasper County, she lived in Port Arthur 30 years, moving here 11 years ago. Survivors include her husband, Luther K. Bankston; one son, Dorman Hawthorne of Kirbyville; one sister Christie Kelly of Beaumont; three brothers, Andrew and Lloyd Barrow, both of Kirbyville and Clayton Barrow of Colmesneil.

Barbee, Nellie Gallagher
Mrs. Nellie Gallagher Barbee, 76, died at 3 p.m. Monday in Jasper Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Kirbyville Cemetery. She was a native of Merryville, La., and lived in Kirbyville for 44 years. Survivors include her husband, Sim Barbee of Kirbyville; one son, T.J. Barbee of Jasper, and one brother, Tom Gallagher of Lumberton.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Sim Barbee, 93, of Kirbyville will be at 10 a.m. today at Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with burial in Kirbyville Cemetery. He died at 10 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 1979 at Mary Dickerson Hospital in Jasper after an illness. He was a native of Shelby County, and had lived in Kirbyville most of his life. He was a retired sawmill laborer. Survivors include a son, T.J. Barbee of Jasper.

Pearl Barefield, 92, of Kirbyville died Sept. 2, 2001, at Avalon Place Nursing Home in Kirbyville. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Kirbyville Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A native of Philadelphia, Miss., she lived in Kirbyville 26 years and was a former resident of Beaumont. Survivors include her sons, Gerald Barefield of Hamshire, James Barefield of Kirbyville, Wayne Barefield of Beaumont and Gayle Barefield of Terrance, Calif.; daughter, Cecile Mason of Silsbee and Linda Hughes of Jasper; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Barhitte, Leonard ‘Rusty’
Leonard "Rusty’’ Barhitte, 66, of Jasper died Oct. 15, 2001, at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper with burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A native of Brookeland, he lived in Jasper most of his life and was a Poly-Modern (now Bonita Cleaners) route salesman and Korean War U.S. Air Force veteran. Survivors include his wife, Marcy Barhitte of Jasper; daughter, Clare Landry of Groves; sister, Bobbie Jeanette Kirkland of Jasper; and grandchildren, Ashli Landry and Nicholas Landry.

Barlow, Guy Franklin
Guy Franklin Barlow, 73, of Kirbyville died Nov. 21, 2000, at Jasper Memorial Hospital. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Central Baptist Church in Kirbyville with burial at Davis Cemetery in Beulah Springs under the direction of E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home. A native of Shelby County, he lived in Kirbyville 40 years and was a retired boilermaker with Local No. 587. He was also a minister of River Ministers Consultants Missions and a World War II and Korean Conflict U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Barlow of Kirbyville; sons, Guy F. Barlow Jr. of Garrison, Gary Barlow of Call and Jeff Barlow of Ulysses, Kan.; brothers, Ray Barlow and Joe Barlow, both of Center; sisters, Sarah Cruise of Center, Gloria Watlington of Ft. Sumter, S.C., and Oneita Brockman of Houston; and three grandchildren.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for William Frankie Barnett, 68, of Kirbyville will be at 4 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church in Kirbyville with burial in Magnolia Springs Cemetery, under the direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Barnett died at 10 p.m. Tuesday in Mary Dickerson Hospital in Jasper after an illness. He was a native of Magnolia Springs and had lived in the Kirbyville area all of his life. Barnett was a retired butcher from Sanders General Mercantile. Survivors include his wife, Pearl Smith Barnett; a son, Keith Barnett of Kirbyville; a brother, John Thomas Barnett of Magnolia Springs; two sisters, Hattie Withers and Jessie Lackey, both of Jasper; and one grandchild.

Barrow, Clayton Charlie
NEWTON – Graveside services for Clayton Charlie Barrow, 65, of Newton will be at 10 a.m. today in Bean Cemetery in Kirbyville under the direction of Griner Funeral Home of Newton. He died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 1980 at his home. A native of Kirbyville, he had lived in Newton five months and was a former resident of Vidor. He was a retired painting contractor. Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Barrow and Willie Barrow, both of Newton and Luther Barrow of Bridge City; four daughters, Joyce Dubose of Vidor, Alice Faye Neel of Mauriceville, Jo Ruth Barrow and Erma Shepphard, both of Deweyville; a brother, Dick Barrow of Kirbyville; a sister, Christine Kelley of Beaumont; and 14 grandchildren.

Elna E. Barrow, 75, of Kirbyville died Sunday, November 28, 1993 at her residence. Funeral was held Wednesday, December 1, at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Magnolia Springs Cemetery. She was a lifelong resident of Kirbyville. Survivors include her son, Danny Barrow of Kirbyville; daughters, Margaret Ann Martin of Woodville, Donna Rae McDonald of Florida, Elna Katherine Tankersley of Beaumont and Linda Jean Midkiff of Houston; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Kelly Barrow, 83, of Kirbyville, will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Veneable, pastor of Caldwood Forest Baptist Church, Beaumont, officiating assisted by Rev. Noble Lawrence, pastor of Call Junction Baptist Church. Interment will be in Bean Cemetery, Kirbyville. Pallbearers will be Clarence Lamb, Raymond Lamb, Clarence Townsend, Solly Simpson, Dorsey Kelly, and Benson Hutchison. Named honorary pallbearers are Dr. John T. Moore, B.C. Woods, J.B. Helpinstill. Mrs. Barrow died Saturday at 7 p.m., December 32, 1972 in the Buna Hospital after a long illness. A native of Newton County, she had lived in Kirbyville for 67 years and was a Baptist. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Bertie Bankston, Kirbyville, and Mrs. Christine Kelley, Beaumont; three sons, Andrew “Dick” Barrow, Jasper, Clayton Barrow, Colmesneil, and Lloyd Barrow, Kirbyville, a sister, Mrs. Ola Simpson, Jasper, 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren.

Barrow, Lazarus
Funeral services for Lazarus Barrow, 100, of Kirbyville, will be held at 2 p.m. today in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Kirbyville Bean Cemetery. He died at 3 a.m. Friday, October 13, 1972 in the Buna Medical Hospital. A native of Madison County, he had lived in this area for 75 years and was a farmer and cattleman. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ethel Kelly Barrow; three sons, Lloyd Barrow, Kirbyville, Vic Barrow, Jasper and Clayton Barrow, Colmesneil; two daughters, Mrs. L.K. Bankston, Kirbyville and Mrs. Christene Kelley, Beaumont.

He died at 4 a.m. Tuesday in Buna Medical Center after an illness. A Kirbyville native, he was a retired farmer. Survivors include his wife, Ada Davis Barrow; one son, Doyle Barrow of Port Arthur; one daughter, Lavelle Bean of Buna; two brothers, Dick Barrow of Jasper and Clayton Barrow of Woodville, and one sister, Christine Kelley of Beaumont.

Elton Barthol, 61, of Buna died Jan. 7, 2001, at his residence. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Buna with cremation at Beaumont Haven of Rest Crematory. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. A native of Brookeland, he lived in Buna 23 years and was an industrial locksmith. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Barthol of Buna; sons, Robert Barthol of Port Neches, and David Barthol and Kenneth Barthol, both of Groves; brothers, Troy Keen of San Augustine and Kenneth Keen of Vidor; sisters, Francis Whitehead of Buna, Catherine Jetton of Port Neches, Marie Miles of Kirbyville and Jolene Koenig of Hemphill; two grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.

Bateman, Mrs. E.A.

Mrs. E.A. Bateman, 83, died at 8 a.m. Thursday in Max Mixson Memorial Clinic in Kirbyville after an illness. She was born Dec. 5, 1891 in Magnolia Springs and was the daughter of the late Jim and Florrie Mixson, founders of Mixson Brothers, at the turn of the century. She was the widow of the late Rev. Bateman, a Baptist minister who served churches in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. David Jenkins of Shreveport, La., a former pastor of the church; the Rev. Don Wardon, pastor; the Rev. Percy Baily of the Central Baptist Church; and the Rev. Byron Boyett of the United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Kirbyville Cemetery under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Pete Cowart, Carl Scott, Carl Roberts, J.B. Sanders, Troy Mitchell, Todd Mixson, Bill Williams and Crawford Woods. Dr. John T. Moore will be honorary pallbearer. In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society or to the organization of one’s choice. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Bob Coffin of Houston, Mrs. Bob Harrell of Victorville, Calif., Mrs. Randy Rudy Fagan of Nashville, Mrs. Ben Griggs and Mrs. George Hargrove, both of Kirbyville; two sons, James Bateman of Kirbyville and the Rev. Bob Bateman of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Dr. Bill Mixson of Kansas City, Kan., and Sib Mixson of Kirbyville; two sisters, Mabyn McCargo and Mildred Mixson, both of Kirbyville; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Estelle Kathryn Bailey, 70, will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with burial in Magnolia Springs Cemetery under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. She died at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday at Shady Acres Nursing Home in Newton. She lived in Port Neches for many years before moving to Kirbyville in 1945. She ran Bailey’s Department Store with her husband. Survivors include her husband, James Floyd Bailey of Kirbyville; three daughters, Geraldine Hill of Nederland, Shirley Bogs of Conroe and Floy Gallier of Rowlett; one son, Charles Bailey of Houston; four sisters, Irma McLeroy and Exie Hudson, both of Houston, Myrtle Freeman of Bastrop, La., and Cloteal Dodson of Amarillo; two brothers, Eugene Turner of San Antonio and Joel Turner of Ruston, La. and 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

KIRBYVILLE-James Floyd Bailey, 79, of Kirbyville died Thursday at Mid-Jefferson County Hospital after an illness. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with Masonic graveside rites in Magnolia Springs Cemetery under the direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. A native of Oakdale, La., he was a former longtime resident of Port Neches and had lived in Kirbyville 37 years. He had owned mercantile stores in both Port Neches and Kirbyville, and was also a real estate broker after moving to Kirbyville. Survivors include three daughters, Geraldine Hill of Nederland, Shirley Hill of Houston and Julia Gallier of Garland; one sister, Dettie Gill of Port Neches; two brothers, Frank Bailey and Arthur Bailey, both of Port Neches; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Lillian Sylvester Thibodeaux Bailey, 73, of Beaumont died Jan. 14, 2001, at Spring Branch Medical Center in Houston. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church with burial at Live Oak Cemetery under the direction of Calvary Mortuary. A quiet hour will be from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday with a rosary to be recited at 8:30 a.m. at the church. A native of Roganville, she lived in Beaumont 50 years. Survivors include sons, Lawrence Thibodeaux of LaPorte, Alexander Thibodeaux of Pearland, James Thibodeaux and Kevin Bailey, both of Beaumont, and Paul Bailey and Leon Thibodeaux, both of Houston; daughters, Shirley Bush, Bobbie Thibodeaux, Gwendolyn Meager and Patsy Thibodeaux, all of Houston, and Carolyn Bailey Mitchell of Beaumont; sister, Mae Jessie Sellers of Houston; brothers, Floyd Sylvester of Beaumont and Earnest Sylvester of El Paso; 23 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
