Burleson - Marjorie "Margie" Kinsey Parkinson, 79, a homemaker, passed away Monday, December 1, 2003, at a Dallas hospital. Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Friday, December 5 at Laurel Land of Burleson Memorial Chapel. Burial was at 3 p.m. Friday at Kimball Bend Cemetery in Kimball Bend. Visitation was 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Parkinson was born September 9, 1924, in Mound, Texas. She married William E. "Bill" Parkinson, Sr. on May 15, 1954 and was a longtime resident of Odessa and San Angelo before moving to Burleson in 2001. Margie was a valedictorian of her 1943 Oglesby High School graduating class and had recently attended her 60th high school reunion in October. She was a homemaker who loved and raised seven children. Margie loved to cook rolls, cakes and pies and loved more to share them with family and friends. Mrs. Parkinson was preceded in death by her husband on March 3, 2002, and by a son, Wade E. Parkinson, Sr. on May 13, 1999. She married Ralph Bailey on October 7, 1943, in New Mexico. She was a retired teacher and a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Keene. BURLESON -- Alfred Elmo Conklin, 89, a retired Soil Conservation Technician, passed away Monday, December 1, 2003, at a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Thursday, December 4 at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel of Fort Worth with graveside services to follow at Bangs Cemetery in Bangs, Texas at 3 pm. Visitation is Wednesday, December 3 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Elmo was born January 29, 1914, in Brown County, Texas. He was extremely active at the First Baptist Church of Burleson, where he was a member of the choir, a deacon, and Sunday school teacher. Elmo led several musical programs at many of the local nursing homes over the years. Mr. Conklin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gertrude Mildred Conklin; and one brother. Burial was at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Eugenie Louise Frazier was born on March 21, 1912, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Samuel David and Helen Louise Mumma Hendershott. She had been a resident of Burleson for eight years, and formerly lived in Granbury. She was a member of The Church at Burleson and was a Bible scholar. A loving and much-loved lady, her wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. She enjoyed oil painting. Crowley - William Owen "Bill" Doyle, Jr., 62, a retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, died Saturday, November 15, 2003, at a Fort Worth hospital. He had been a resident of Crowley for 27 years. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 19 at Mountain Valley Chapel with Reverend Henry L. Spells officiating. Bill Doyle, a loving husband, father and granddad, who was devoted to his grandchildren, was born December 27, 1940, in Canton Village, New York, the son of William Owen Doyle, Sr., and Ethel Geraldine Forbes Doyle. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years and retired in 1978 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was Fire and Safety Engineer for Miller Brewery for 12 years, and was responsible for bringing the annual Miller Hose-Off to Fort Worth. He loved fishing and camping, crafts and woodworking. He will be missed by all who knew him. Joshua - R.C. Loflin, 78, a retired educator, died Thursday, November 13, 2003, at a Fort Worth hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He moved to Joshua at a very young age. He attended Joshua schools and graduated in 1943. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II. On December 5, 1945, he married Pauline Hildebrand at First Baptist Church in Joshua. He was employed at General Dynamics. He later attended Texas Christian University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1962, and a Masters of Education in 1972. Mr. Loflin was principal of R.C. Loflin Middle School for 36 years. Upon retirement, he served as a truant officer for the Joshua Independent School District. He served as city secretary for the City of Joshua for several years. He also served on numerous boards and organizations during his career. He was a 50 year member of the Joshua Masonic Lodge and a 50 year member of First Baptist Church of Joshua. The greatest joy in his life was his family. He had a passion for education and touched numerous lives during his career. Mr. Loflin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edwin Eugene Loflin. Burleson -- A.L. Sanders, 83, a retired used car dealer, went to his heavenly home Friday, November 7, 2003. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 10 at Hallmark Baptist Church. Burial was at Laurel Land Memorial Park. A.L. was a member of Hallmark Baptist Church in Fort Worth. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Sanders was born in Oklahoma and moved to Fort Worth with his wife after World War II. He worked as a mechanic before he, along with his brother, Joe Sanders and his nephew, Roy Sanders, formed Sanders Brothers Motor Company. In 1986 he and his children opened Sanders Auto Sales in Burleson. Mr. Sanders enjoyed Southern Gospel music, whether listening to or playing it on his guitar. He loved farming and looking after his cows. Most of all, Mr. Sanders loved life, laughter and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Sanders was loved by all who knew him. Burleson - James P. Heberle, M.D., 82, a retired physician, died Monday, November 3, 2003 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 6 at First United Methodist Church of Burleson. Burial will be at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Dr. Heberle was born July 16, 1921, in Joshua, Texas, where his father was a dentist. After graduating from high school, he attended Texas Wesleyan College as a pre-medical student where he met his wife, Analois (Ann) Beauchamp. He was a member of Alphi Chi, listed in Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges, graduating in 1941. Three weeks after graduation, Pearl Harbor was attacked. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and completed Meteorology Cadet training at the University of Chicago Institute of Meteorology. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant and spent the next two and one-half years of active duty in the Alaska-Aleutian war theater as a weather officer. He was base weather officer at Amchitka when the nearby island of Kiska was invaded. For this invasion, he prepared the weather forecast. He was relieved of active duty on March 13, 1946, as a captain and was later promoted to the rank of major. After completing his tour of duty with the military, Dr. Heberle resumed his work toward a profession he always intended to become a part of - the medical profession. He graduated from the University of Texas Medical School in 1950 and was a member of the Phi Chi medical fraternity. After graduation, he served a one-year internship at John Peter Smith Hospital, House Physician at Cooks Memorial Hospital, and a three-year residency in surgery and pathology at Harris Hospital. He began practicing in Burleson in 1956. Burleson was home to Dr. Heberle's practice until his retirement in 1990. His membership in professional organizations include a life member of the Texas Medical Association through the Tarrant County Medical Society, The American Academy of Family Physicians, and as a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. The local organizations include Tarrant County Medical Society, active member of the Harris Medical staff from 1950 until his retirement in 1990, and a charter member of the Huguley Memorial Hospital staff. Since retirement, he was an honorary member of the Huguley Medical staff. Dr. Heberle was a Master Mason in Burleson Lodge #649, a member of Burleson Lions, Burleson Beautification Council and First United Methodist Church. A quiet, humble Christian man, devoted to his family and his patients, he will be missed by many. Dr. Heberle is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Heberle; son, Paul Heberle, daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Michael Brian; daughter, Kay Heberle; grandchildren, Rob and Rachel Heberle, Amber, Aaron, Laura and Steve Brian, and Annalisa Jamalainen. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring after 25 years of service. Among numerous medals he was awarded two purple hearts with oak leaf cluster, good conduct medal, and a sharpshooter badge. Surrounded by her loving family, Patricia Smith of Alvarado passed away at 3:05 PM on Friday, September 26, 2003. Pat worked in banking for many years and retired from Burleson State Bank in 1995. Her life was full and rich with family, friends, and purpose. During the last 10 months of her life, Pat quietly fought the cancer that took her from us. During this time she shared her courage and compassion as she gently guided us along this journey with her. Pat enjoyed many hobbies and activities during her life; she participated in and supported every activity in which her daughters were active. She loved to go camping and fishing with family and friends. It's not possible to count the hours she spent supporting the sport, music, 4H, or school activities of her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She had abundant love to give - most of us were unaware that she also shared it with the athletes at Special Olympics competitions as "Official Hugger", waiting at the finish line to offer unconditional hugs and support. Pat also cared for three foster sons, Chris, Reggie and Ernest. Pat was preceded in death by her parents John D. and Ruth Ernestine Lewis and brother, Charles William Lewis, formerly of Madison Heights, Michigan. Herby sold his company in 1975 and began his next endeavor as the chairman and CEO of the Bank of Crowley. Mr. Ballew retired from his bank in the early '90s and concentrated his full efforts on his chemical company, Fame Care. He owned Fame Care until his retirement in 1999. During his retirement he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered by his employees, who all were his extended family. Herby was known for his compassion and generosity. He touched the hearts of everyone he met. Herby was preceded in death by his parents and six of his seven sisters. Burleson - Gary Richard Matzner, 63, a middle school teacher, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2003, in Burleson. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 16 at First Christian Church of Burleson. Burial was at Laurel Land Memorial Park. Gary was born June 27, 1940, in Fort Worth to William Joseph and Lena Faye Matzner. He graduated from Carter-Riverside High School in 1957, and then served in the Air Force from 1962 to 1966. He received a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of Texas at Arlington. Gary was employed for 25 years at General Dynamics-Lockheed Martin, retiring in 1993. Following retirement, Gary found his true calling as an educator. He taught at the Corrections Corporation of America in Venus, Crossroads Learning Center in Burleson and Loflin Middle School in Joshua. Gary's love of teaching led to his participation on several committees and projects, which helped enhance the educational experience of his students. Gary was a member of First Christian Church of Burleson. He was a charter member of the Burleson Ministerial Alliance Auxiliary, which was responsible for founding Harvest House of Burleson. The support of his daughters' activities led to his participation in various other organizations. Aris L. Carr, 86, died Sunday, September 8, 2003 in Burleson, Texas. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 11 in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Colonel on October 31,1970 after 28 years of service. Mr. Carr was also an active Shriner, having served as President of the Montgomery County Shrine Club in 1978. He was an avid sportsman and was very dedicated to his wife of 64 years, Jo, and his family. Burleson - Emanuel "Riley" Riley, 67, a retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant, died Monday, September 1, 2003 in Fort Worth. Riley was born May 9, 1936, in Hazard, Kentucky to Luther and Laura McIntosh Riley. He married Patricia Brittian on January 31, 1957, in Fort Worth. Mr. Riley proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force with many overseas tours including Vietnam. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal among numerous other medals and ribbons, retiring after 21 years of service. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and a talented craftsman who enjoyed working on home projects and helping his friends. He will be missed by his many friends and family. Senior Master Sergeant Crosthwait served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1986. He held various positions as an air policeman, medical laboratory supervisor, and NCO open mess manager. He was stationed at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota; Stewart AFB, New York; Lajes Field, Azores, Portugal, L.G. Hanscom Field, Maine; Brooks AFB, Texas; Barksdale AFB, Louisiana; Offutt AFB, Nebraska; Whiteman AFB, Missouri; and Carswell AFB, Texas. His military awards include the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal with 2 Bronze Loops, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with five Oak Leaf Clusters, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. After his retirement from the Air Force, he was general manager of Onion Creek Country Club in Austin. Jerry served on the Economical Development Board of the City of Benbrook and numerous other civic activities. Viola Moore Rich passed away in a California nursing home on August 20, 2003. She was 85 years of age. Viola was born February 5, 1918, in Agnes, Texas. Later the family moved to Fort Worth, where she graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1935. She had come to know Christ as her Lord and Savior in her teens and served Him faithfully throughout her life. Viola married Cecil F. Rich in 1937 and moved to California, where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a loving and caring wife and mother. In the last eight years Viola suffered ill health and died as a result of a massive stroke. Viola is survived by her husband, Cecil F. Rich of Yucca Valley, California; one brother, Dorman E. Moore of Fort Worth; two sisters, Oleta Evans and Betty Lawson, also of Fort Worth; two sons, Douglas Rich and Steven Rich of Yucca Valley, California; a daughter, Nancy Lynn Soucy of Las Vegas, Nevada; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Keene--Daisy Dixson, a longtime resident of Keene went to her rest on August 17, 2003, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Daisy was the fourth of eleven children born in 1912 to Benjamin Cooper and Julia Ann Anderson, longtime residents of Waxahachie, Texas. Daisy married Cecil Clarence Owens in 1932 in Ellis County and was widowed when her husband died from an accident in 1934. Cecil and Daisy had one son, Cecil Jim Owens, born in 1933. In 1936, Daisy married Jack Dixson. They moved to Keene in 1955 and resided there until Jack's death in 1999. They were blessed with one daughter, Betty Joanne Dixson Ansley, born in 1938. Daisy leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Betty Joanne Ansley; her son, Cecil Jim Owens and wife, Ida; three grandchildren, Diane Owens Nystrom and husband, Dan, Greg Owens and Richard Owens. Mr. Clarke was instrumental in the restoration of the ornamental metalwork on the Hill County Courthouse in the early 1990s. She is survived by husband, Harold Collins; daughter, Leah Collins-Corliss and husband, Donavon, all of Burleson; mother, Leona Vittone of Dearborn, Michigan; brothers, Larry Vittone of Lapeer, Michigan and Anthony Vittone of Grand Blanc, Michigan; grandchildren, Collin and Caleb Corliss of Burleson; and numerous nieces and nephews. PASTOR LARRY EDWARD SPIVA, SR
KEENE -- Services for Larry Edward Spiva, 58, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church. Visitation will be 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2003 at Rosser Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Steve Gifford, Pastor Leighton Holley, Pastor Errol Eder, Bruce Oliver, Pastor Wes Spiva, and Dr. Tony Torres will officiate. Burial will be in Keene Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Glen Ball, Junior Borg, Charles Bowyer, Bill Dailey, Karl Doerner, and Dennis Zook. Mr. Spiva passed away Mon. Aug. 4, 2003 in Dallas. He was born Feb. 18, 1945 in Ben Wheeler, Texas to Leonard Leon Spiva and Myrtle Perrish Spiva. He married Linda Marie Booth on June 11, 1967 in Arlington, Texas. Mr. Spiva was a Pastor and Conference Church Auditor with the Texas Conference of Seventh-day Adventist. He was a member of the Cleburne Seventh-day Adventist Church. He is survived by his wife, Linda Spiva of Keene; sons, Larry Spiva, Jr. and wife Tara, of Keene and James Spiva and wife Chrystal, of Grapevine; daughter, Joanna Spiva of Keene; grandsons, Brendan Spiva of Keene and Alek Spiva of Grapevine; granddaughters, Cheyenne and Kirsten Spiva both of Keene, Tifiny and Alyson Spiva both of Grapevine, and Ashley Houston of Keene; father, Leon Spiva and wife Lalie of Mountainberg, Arkansas; brothers, Leonard Spiva and wife Betty of Plano, David Spiva of Mountain-berg, Arkansas, Dan Spiva and wife Jennifer, of Camino, California, and John Kruska and wife Renee, of Purcell, Oklahoma and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Spiva was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Kruska, step-father, Albert Kruska and brothers, James Spiva and Ronald Spiva. Memorials may be made to the Texas Conference Church Planting. Rosser Funeral Home of Cleburne handled the arrangements.
