WARREN E. HOOPER
BURLESON -- Warren E. Hooper, 81, a retired driller for Sedco Drilling Co. and a transporter for Tarrant County Mortician Service, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, in Waco. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13 at First Baptist Church in Burleson. Dr. Bill Longsworth and Dr. Mike Milburn officiated. Pallbearers were Keith Copenhaver, Randy Johnson, Sam Johnson, Dick Fortenberry, Douglas Fortenberry and Robert Van Maerssen. Honorary pallbearers were Rick Hawkins and the Dan Shepard's Sunday school class. Burial was at Caddo Cemetery. Mr. Hooper was born April 15, 1923, in Cass to Purse and Lois Mires Hooper. He married Wynell Fortenberry on Nov. 25, 1948, in Burleson. She preceded him in death on June 6, 1999. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burleson. Mr. Hooper was a driller for Sedco Drilling Co., a petroleum consultant, a truck driver for Western Commercial Transport and after retiring from the oil field he worked for Laurel Land Funeral Home and was a transporter for the Tarrant County Mortician Service in Fort Worth. He is survived by son, Michael Y. Hooper and wife, Polly, of Fort Worth; daughter, Cynthia K. Hooper of Burleson; granddaughter, Sara Kerr of Fort Worth; and a number of nieces and nephews. DALE M. DAVIS
HALTOM CITY -- Dale M. Davis, 47, a medical sales representative, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2004, at home. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 7 at North Richland Hills Baptist Church where he and his wife were married 26 years ago. Burial was at Laurel Land Memorial Park. Dale was born February 15, 1957, in Fort Worth. He graduated from Burleson High School, where he played in the band. He attended Texas Wesleyan, then was granted a tennis scholarship at Baylor University. He secured his degree from Carolina Christian University in Christian psychology and counseling. Dale was a licensed minister and a member of the Northeast Chamber of Commerce. He served on the zoning board for the city of Haltom City and was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church of Dallas. Dale is survived by his wife of 26 years, Esse Giles Davis; daughter, Hannah Elizabeth Davis; parents, George M. and Janie Lee George Davis of Burleson; brother, David L. Davis and wife, Marlina, of Haltom City; sister, Kay Lynn Garrison and husband, John, of Burleson; in-laws, Jan and Ramon Giles of Richland Hills; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews; other extended family and a host of friends. JOSHUA -- Robert W. "Bob" Gutzman, 59, a sales representative in the foundery fabrication industry, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004 in Houston. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 12 at the Charity Lutheran Church in Burleson. Burial was at Greenacres Memorial Park in Cleburne. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Monday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Robert William Gutzman was born February 6, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio to Robert Herman and Helen Floria Gutzman. He married Anna Sue Rogers on December 10, 1983 in Fort Worth. He was a treasured member of Charity Lutheran Church in Burleson where he also served as an Elder. Bob was dearly loved and will be missed by his family and many friends. Rena Kuhn, 89, a dedicated Christian, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed into eternal life on Thursday, October 7, 2004, in Burleson. She was a former resident of Abilene, having moved to Burleson in 1997. Funeral services were held Monday, October 11 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith in Abilene. Bob Connel officiated. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Rena was born to Vera Virginia (Chandler) and Thomas Felix Blackard on September 17, 1915, in Dunn, Texas. She married Paul Lawrence Kuhn on November 20, 1943, in Crystal City, Texas, and first moved to Abilene in 1983. She was a retired homemaker and a member of Baker Heights Church of Christ in Abilene. Mrs. Kuhn was predeceased by her husband in 1987, and three brothers, including O'Neal Blackard, Weldon Blackard, and an infant brother. Alma Hilda May, a retired school teacher, was born April 14, 1903 in Leonore, Illlinois, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Jaegle) Lehnhausen. She passed away on October 2, 2004, at her residence in Cleburne. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. MARGIE BROWN RUSSELL
Fort Worth - Margie Brown Russell, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and co-owner of Two Bucks Beverages, passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at the grand age of 91, at a local hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home Chapel, Burleson. Burial was at Georges Creek Cemetery, Somervell County. Mrs. Russell and her husband operated the family-owned business of Two Bucks from 1947 to the present. She enjoyed working and was there every day until her 90s, greeting all her patrons and friends. Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buck Russell; sister, Mary Vogt; and brother, Milton Brown. They moved to Burleson in July of 1968 and he worked for the Burleson Post office as a mail carrier until 1976. He then went to mortuary school to become a funeral director. Peggy "Mini" Williams, age 66, of Austin went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 24, 2004. Mini was born December 4, 1937 in Muncie, Indiana. She met and married Roy Williams in Houston. They celebrated 48 years of marriage in July of this year. She had lived in Austin since 1991. Mini devoted and dedicated her life to her family. R. Dee Cate, 88, of Burleson passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at his home. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Saturday, September 18 at Bakker Funeral Home in Eastland, Texas. Rev. Mr. Cate was born July 27, 1916, in Fredonia, Mason County, Texas. He married Wilma Clorene Skinner in Eastland County on October 20, 1936. He worked most of his life in the oil fields of west Texas. Some people might remember him as the "Pumpkin Man" who used to sell pumpkins in Burleson in what is now CiCi's Pizza parking lot. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but we know he is now in Heaven with his beloved wife, Wilma. Mr. Cate was preceded in death by parents, Noah and Betty Cate; wife, Wilma; two sons, Billy Wayne Cate and Jerry Cate. Sibyl Freeman Ray, age 98, of Frisco, Texas passed away September 15, 2004 in Plano, Tx. She was born August 18, 1906 to John Edwin Coffman and Effie Mae Braime in Avery, Tx. She married Charles William Freeman, who preceded her in death in 1959, and married Mina E. Ray in 1962, who also preceded her in death. She worked in the dry cleaning industry, was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Frisco, and was adored and loved by her family. Mrs. Ray is survived by her daughter, Charlsey and husband, Doyle Greenlee of Frisco; seven grandchildren, Jimmy Freeman, Dixie Batten, Nancy Echols, Echo Beyer, Jenee Ghoison, Mike York, and Sherri Greenlee; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. JAMES RUEL ENGLAND
FORT WORTH -- James Ruel England, 66, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, in Fort Worth. Funeral services were at noon Tuesday, Sept. 14 at Sagamore Hill Baptist Church. Burial was at Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visitation was 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. He graduated in 1956 from Polytechnic High School, where he was a football letterman. He graduated in 1960 from Texas Christian University with a bachelor of science in commerce. Two additional years of post-graduate work in accounting were completed at TCU. James began his U.S. Army service with basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Rolla, Mo. He was then selected to serve on the general staff at Fifth Army Headquarters, Chicago, Ill. James married Charlotte Jane Wright on Feb. 10, 1961, at Sagamore Baptist Church and was an active member of Zig Ziegler's Auditorium Bible Study Class at First Baptist Church, Dallas, until Mr. Ziegler's retirement. James was a member of Sagamore Hill Baptist Church from his youth through adulthood, when longtime family friend, Dr. W. Fred Swank, was pastor. He was also an active member of South Burleson Baptist Church. James R. England was the water office manager and data processing manager for the city of Arlington from 1962-67. From 1967-70, he was the director of data processing for Fort Worth ISD and data processing project leader for the city of Fort Worth from 1970-1973. From 1973-1976, he was the land buyer for Harris Corporation and received his real estate brokerage license in 1974. He was city manager of Burleson and was selected as the first director of finance at The Colony Municipal Utility District in 1979. During 1986, the Colony Municipal Utility District merged with The Colony. At that time, James was appointed director of finance for The Colony. During his tenure at The Colony, he received several national finance awards from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. These special financial awards were for excellence in financial reporting and budget presentation. James England was awarded the Certified Governmental Finance Officer Designation Number 49 by the Texas Government Finance Officers Association. He retired in 1994 with 15 years of service at The Colony. Since 1994, he had managed his personal investments. Mr. England researched his family history at the Virginia Historical Society and the State Library of Virginia in Richmond. He was a direct descendant of John England, a Revolutionary War soldier, who was with George Washington at the Battle of Yorktown. He was a guard who transported Lord Cornwallis to the prison in Warrenton, Va., after his surrender on Yorktown battlefield. A bronze marker from the United States War Department marks John England's grave in England Valley near Clinchport, Va. James England was an active member of the Civil War Roundtable of Texas, a group that studies the War Between the States. He attended many local, regional and national conferences on the Civil War along with visiting many battlefield sites across the Southern states. He was an avid hiker and walker. For over 30 years, he completed 10K hikes throughout the Metroplex with local walking clubs. James loved the Fort Worth Rodeo and attended the annual event for 60 consecutive years. Mr. England was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth McClain England, and his father, Ruel William "Rue" England. Burleson--Helen Lucille Sheasley Robson Hinds, 88, a Burleson resident for fifty years, died on August 30, 2004. Helen was born to Sarah and Howard Sheasley on April 19, 1916 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She married Paul Gerald Robson on September 2, 1940. They had two sons, Clifford Pierce in 1942 and Donald Ray in 1947. They lived on a farm in Stoneboro, Pennsylvania until they moved to Burleson in 1954 when Paul's company was relocated to Fort Worth. They were active in school and church activities until Paul died on September 4, 1975. She later married Leonard Hinds on August 26, 1977. Leonard and Helen spent many happy years traveling in the Burleson and Harlengen areas, performing volunteer work and enjoying their children and grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Robson and her granddaughter Denise Robson. Valley View - Services for Reuben Reiter, 83, of Valley View are set for 10 a.m. Friday, August 13 at the Era Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Kilgore and Elder Robert Ryder officiating. Burial will follow in Era Cemetery under the direction of the Clement Keel Funeral Home of Gainesville. Mr. Reiter passed away on Monday, August 9, 2004, at Gainesville Memorial Hospital. He was born in Hutto, Texas (near Taylor) on October 6, 1920, the fifth of 15 children to Carl and Olga (Belz) Reiter. His family moved when he was 9 years old to the Era community. He grew up working hard on the farm with his family. He began his education at the Bermuda School House located on the family farm, and later finished at the Era Public School. He served in the army 3 years during World War II. He was a member of 120th Station Hospital. On April 13, 1946, he married Maxine Henley, making their home in the Era community. Reuben loved to farm, garden, ranch, and visit with his neighbors. His love for farming showed when he received an award for Outstanding Conservationist Farmer in 1966. With cotton being one of the main commodities in his farming operation, Reuben enjoyed the title Cotton King of Cooke County by bringing in the first bail of cotton in 1968 for the fifth time in six years. An active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Gainesville, Reuben was involved in various offices in the church. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and neighbor. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. Newton Warren Bransom, 93, of Burleson, a retired owner of Warrens Department Store in Coldwater, Kansas, died July 27, 2004, in Fort Worth. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday July 30 at Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Burleson. Visitation was Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Burial was at Prairie Springs Cemetery in Burleson. Warren was born March 14, 1911, in Burleson the fourth son of James Allen and Mary "Mollie" Jenkins Bransom. He married Thelma Mozelle Carter on November 1, 1931. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, an active member of the Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, American Red Cross, and other benevolent associations. He enjoyed sailboating, hunting, photography, and was a member of a gun club where he enjoyed target shooting. Warren attended school at "Reece Prairie" and Burleson High School, where he was Valedictorian of the class of 1928. After graduation he took a business course at Joshua High School and was also Valedictorian there. He worked at Pierce Dry Goods in Burleson and Waxahachie, then worked for J.C. Penney Co. in Tucumcari, New Mexico and as a manager in Coldwater, Kansas. He opened Warrens Department Store in 1955 after J.C. Penney closed their store. He kept and operated his store until 1975 when he retired. In Coldwater, he was a councilman for 14 years, then Mayor for 17. He was Project Director of the building of Coldwater Lake. He was also a volunteer fireman, a probate judge, and a deputy sheriff. He participated in the Great American Trail Ride in Dodge City, Kansas when he was 85. Warren was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Thelma Mozelle Carter Bransom in 1995; five brothers, James GG Branson, Fayette Bransom, Benjamin H. Bransom, Laton Bransom, Leroy Bransom; and one sister, Oma May Bransom Henderson. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Patricia Nanninga and husband, John, of Burnsville, Minnesota, Sandra Kathleen Johnson of Burleson, Dorothy Jean Winward and husband, Michael, of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. GLADYS HARDIN GATES
Burleson--Gladys Hardin Gates, 84, a Co-Owner of an auto parts and supply store, passed away Monday, July 26, 2004 at her residence. Funeral service was held Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Laurel Land of Burleson Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Bethesda Cemetery. Gladys Gates was a lifetime member of Bethesda Baptist Church. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Don Gates; daughter, Betty Tucker; grandchildren, Rita, Penny and Chris; great-grandchildren, Cody and Shelbi; brothers, Floyd and Weldon Hardin. KENNETH WAYNE ARCHER
Kenneth Wayne Archer, 51, of Burleson, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at his home. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27 at Mountain Valley Funeral Chapel. Burial was at Greenacres Memorial Park in Cleburne. Visitation was 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Kenneth was born December 15, 1952, to Kenneth H. and Willie B. Granton Archer in Fort Worth. He married Paula Annette Gage on June 17, 1977, in Burleson. He enjoyed fishing, making up songs for his girls and wearing his overalls and bandana. He loved his granddaughter and was a member of the Church of Christ. Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth H. Archer in 1998. He is survived by his wife, Paula Archer of Burleson; daughters, April Christyne Archer of Arlington and Tanya Denise Archer of Burleson; mother, Bea Archer of Burleson; brother, Jerry Don Archer and wife, Evelyn, of Godley; sister, Frankie Lewis and husband, Randy, of Burleson; granddaughter, Jordan Christyne Renee Walker of Burleson; mother-in-law, Shirley Kennedy and husband, Marvin, of Burleson; father-in-law, Bobby Gage of Arlington; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members. OPAL ALLEN SEALE
Opal Allen Seale, 95, of Burleson died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at a hospice house in Burleson, Texas. Services will be held Thursday, July 29. Viewing is from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home of Burleson. Opal was born December 22, 1908 in Deport, Texas. She married John Calvin Seale August, 14, 1926. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burleson. Mrs. Seale was preceded in death by her husband, John, who died in 1983. She is survived by her son, Jack Allen Steale and daughter, Dora June Evans, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home of Burleson is in charge of the arrangements.

E.B. (BRUCE) WOODY
E.B. (Bruce) Woody, 95, of Burleson passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Harris Southwest Hospital. Graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at Emerald Hills, 500 Sublet Rd. & Bus. 287. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davis Funeral Chapel in Fort Worth. Mr. Woody was born May 24, 1909, in Patosi, Texas. He was a member of Rendon Church of Christ for over 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Beth Woody; sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Sheri, Rod and Nancy, and Darrell and Sondra; brother, Chuck Woody; sister, Jessie Casey; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Bruce. Granddaddy...as all the children knew you. You told us how much you love us, not with words, but with the way you treated us in all you did. Your bride of 70 years remembers all the joy and love shared with a true soul mate. Your loving hand is always on our shoulder as a gentle guiding force; you were a friend to all who knew you. A wonderful man of few words, he was and still is our "Quite Giant."

MICHAEL A. NUTT
Memorial Services for Michael A. Nutt, 30, of Kaufman, Texas, will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004 in the Firewheel Bible Fellowship. Reverend Jeff Kinkade and Dr. Max Burkhead will officiate.Visitation is Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Husband, son, teacher and friend, Michael Nutt received his just place with his Lord Jesus Christ, on the afternoon of Monday, July 19, 2004, in the company of those who loved him. His life, though seemingly short to many, reached deep into those with whom he came in contact and will have an everlasting impact. His courage in his three year battle with leukemia was an inspiration to all who knew him. Michael was born on March 20, 1974, in Ranger, Texas to Milburn Arthur and Mary Katherine Dreier Nutt, Jr. He married Cristen Wohlgemuth on June 14, 1997 in Burleson. Mr. Nutt was a teacher for the First Baptist Academy in Dallas and a member of the Firewheel Bible Fellowship. Michael A. Nutt is survived by wife, Cristen A. Nutt of Kaufman, Tx.; parents, Arthur and Kathy Nutt of Mexia, Tx.; sister, Jennifer Sullivan and husband, Frank, of Watauga, Tx.; paternal grandmother, Virginia Nutt of Breckenridge, Tx.; maternal grandparents, Madge and Walter Dreier of Kerrville, Tx.; mother and father-in-law, Dr. Mikeal and Rep. Arlene Wohlgemuth of Burleson, Tx.; sister-in-law, Sarah Wohlgemuth of Palm Desert, California. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Milburn A. Nutt in 2001.
