Mrs. Rogers died Sunday, July 29, 2001, in Cleburne, Texas. She was a homemaker. She was born July 15, 1921, in Selma, Alabama to Thomas L. Arnold and Mary Nichols Arnold. She married John E. Rogers on March 26, 1946, in Selma, Alabama. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Grandview. She had been a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Selma, Alabama for many years. Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by a daughter, Bettie Jean Bishop, on December 20, 1994. She is survived by her husband, John E. Rogers of Cleburne; brother, Charles Arnold of Nashville, Tennessee; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Grant died Saturday, July 28, 2001. She was a retired Nurse-LVN. She was born January 1, 1919, in Starville, Texas in Mill County. A Crowley resident for 26 years, Mrs. Grant was a nursing professional for over 50 years and had great compassion for her patients. Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Susie King; father of her children, Guy D. Grant; two daughters, Betty Grant Booth and Shirley Werrick; two grandsons, Mike and Randy VonWahlde. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Robert (Bob) Grant; son, Tommy Grant and wife, Becky; daughters, Dewie VonWahlde and husband, J.D., Dorothy Raiford, Frances Creekmore and husband, James, and Minnie Webster; sisters, Pearl King and Ruby Hays and husband, Red; sister-in-law, Viola King; and many grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Beverly Gale Wier, 51, of San Marcos, Texas were held Monday, July 30 at the First Baptist Church of San Marcos. Reverends Doug Tipps, Bob Maas and Dan Wooldridge officiated. Graveside services followed at the Charlotte City Cemetery in Charlotte, Texas. Mrs. Wier died Friday, July 27, 2001, in San Marcos. She was born in Carlton, Texas on August 25, 1949, to Wendell and Vaughn (Sensibaugh) Phillips. A resident of Burleson from 1956 to 1965, Mrs. Wier attended Burleson schools from the second through tenth grades. She graduated Valedictorian from Carlton High School in 1967. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Tarelton State University in 1971, and her Masters Degree from Texas A&M University in 1974. She married Glenn Wier on April 10, 1976. Charlotte, Texas was Mrs. Wier's home from 1976 to 1985. She lived in Kingsville, Texas from July 1985 to 1995, and finally settled in San Marcos, Texas in 1995. Mrs. Wier loved to country-western dance, was always involved in her children's activities and was a member of the First Baptist Church of San Marcos. As a fan of the San Marcos Rattlers she never missed a football game and was involved with the Rattler Band Booster Club. As both her children are attending Texas A&M, both she and her husband, Glenn, were very active with the Texas A&M Corp of Cadets and the Texas Aggie Football games. Mrs. Wier is preceded in death by her father, Wendell Phillips in October of 1989. She is survived by her husband, Glenn Wier of San Marcos, Texas; two sons, Russell Wier and Grady Wier, both of College Station, Texas; mother, Vaughn Phillips of Stephenville, Texas; two sisters, Patti Owens and husband, Danny, of Burleson, and Jinny Howard and husband, Roland, of Stephenville; four nieces, Pepper Jo Bauerle and husband, Brian, Carrie Howard, Erin Howard, and Shelli Rice and husband, Jason; three nephews, Cash Wier, Tim Owens and Todd Owens. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Townzen had been a resident of Burleson for 24 years. He was well-loved by his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, camping, dominoes and pinochle, and was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Belle Grove during World War II. Mrs. Koenig died Sunday, July 15, 2001, in Fort Worth. She was retired from the Crowley Independent School District and was a member of First Baptist Church in Crowley. She was a retired registered nurse. She was born July 15, 1914, in Roll, Indiana, the daughter of Arthur Adolph and Mary Magdelena Byall Robey. She married Joseph Henry Bischoff on October 15, 1935, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He preceded her in death January 14, 1996. Mrs. Bischoff is survived by one son, Robert W. Bischoff of Keene; daughters, Barbara J. Koobs of Palm Desert, California, and Juanita K. Ballew of Keene; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. Sammie A. Mooney, 67, of Burleson went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 10, 2001. Mrs. Mooney was employed at the Waffle House in Burleson. She attended Crestmont Baptist Church and women's Sunday School class. She had many good friends. Mrs. Mooney is survived by her brother, Bob Robertson; two sisters, Marie Minor and Glenda Phares; three daughters, Gay Lee, Susan Mooney and Tawnya Mooney; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

FRED BON PARKS

Funeral services for Fred Bon Parks, 70, of Crowley were held Friday, July 20 at Baumgardner Chapel in Crowley. Dr. Carl Jennings officiated. Mr. Parks was buried with military and Masonic honors in Crowley Cemetery. Mr. Parks died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at a Fort Worth hospital. He was a retired U.S. master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was born April 16, 1931, in Holliday to Samuel and Beulah Johnson Parks. He married Mary Jean Pearson, and they were married 44 years, three months and one day. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Mr. Parks was a member of First Baptist Church of Crowley, a charter member of the Crowley Masonic Lodge #1437 and a member of the Crowley Moose Lodge #2200. Mr. Parks was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Toy Cox. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Parks of Crowley; children, Merl Samuel Parks and Toy Jean Braudaway and husband, Glen, all of Crowley; brother, Joe Ray Parks of Holliday; grandson, Ashton Braudaway of Crowley; brother-in-law, Kenneth Cox; and three nieces. Mrs. Sims died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in a Throckmorton Health Care Center. She was a homemaker. She was born March 9, 1903, in Comanche County, Texas to William Lee and Nancy Elizabeth (Powers) Everett. She was a lifelong resident of Throckmorton, a member of First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She wrote the Nursing News for the Throckmorton Tribune for many years. Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by a son, Ray Sims, in 1980; and a great-grandson, Jonathan Hamilton, in 1989. She is survived by two sons, Frank H. Sims of Vernon and William Lee (Dub) Sims of Burleson; one daughter-in-law, Wanda Sims of Baird; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation was from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Mrs. Mitchell died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at a local hospital.
She was born April 18, 1910, to George Andrew Francis "Frank" Cheairs and Nancy "Nannie" Vanderpool Cheairs. Her mother's and father's roots went back to the founding of the Republic of Texas. They married in Joshua, Texas in 1890 and had moved to west Texas where Grace was born in Sterling City. After settling a ranch north of Big Springs in the Knott-Ackerly community, Grace met and married Frank Leeman "Tig" Mitchell in Pecos, Texas. Their children were James Frank, twins Clarence Lee and Clara Elizabeth, Billy Joe and Frank Gary. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by sons, Billy Joe Mitchell and wife, Laura, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Gary Mitchell and wife, "Ginny", of Burleson; daughter-in-laws, June Mitchell of Anson and Shirley Mitchell of Cleburne; son-in-law, Don Kilman of Joshua; 13 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wilhite died Friday, July 13, 2001, at a Burleson hospice house. She was a homemaker. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Wilhite was a multi-talented and unique lady. She was a life member of the Fort Worth African Violet Society and had won numerous awards. She began oil painting when she was in her seventies. She also enjoyed crochet, knitting, needlepoint and using the exercise equipment at the care center where she resided. She was a member of Burleson Church of Christ and a former member of Richland Hills Church of Christ. Mrs. Wilhite was preceded in death by her grandson, Russell Ted Johnson in 1968; and her husband, E.H. "Ted" Wilhite in 1972. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, LaVerne and Denver Boren of Pryor, Oklahoma, Carolyn and Arlie Johnson of Crowley, Kay and Charles Mason of Burleson; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was born December 12, 1922, in Enid, Oklahoma. She had been a resident of Parker County for 30 years and was a longtime member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Blair, beloved sister, mother, wife and daughter passed away suddenly Saturday, June 23, 2001, in Rochester, Minnesota. She was born August 6, 1959, in Snyder, Texas. She was a graduate from Crowley High School in 1977. Mrs. Blair was an excellent musician and loved playing her guitar and drums. One of her greatest joys was playing the drums in her band as she traveled across the country, always joking and smiling. She decorated wedding cakes and brought happiness to everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was born October 6, 1920, in Fort Worth to Tony and Bessie Cobb Anders. She was a member of The Church at Burleson, and was a loving and loved mother and grandmother. Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her husband, L.F. "Shorty" Campbell in 1986, and by two sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by sons, Jerry Campbell and wife, Debbie, and Richard Campbell and wife, Linda, all of Crowley; daughter, Charla Loiselle and husband, Dennis,of Crowley; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Baumgardner Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of the arrangements.

Burial was at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Mrs. Owens died Friday, July 6, 2001. She was a retired bookkeeper and a homemaker. She retired from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1989. She had also been employed at the old First National Bank in downtown Fort Worth for many years. She was born November 25, 1927, in Thurber. She attended and graduated from the old Trimble Tech High School where she was an honor student and a drum majorette. Mrs. Owens was a very loving mother and grandmother with a caring, generous heart and a sweet spirit. She enjoyed watching her girls sing and her grandchildren in sports. She enjoyed numerous types of crafts, reading, vacations with her husband, and was a expert seamstress. She was a joy to be around and always had a beautiful smile. "GiGi, we love you and adore you; you will be greatly missed on this earth, but we know that you have moved on to a better place in Heaven where you will be whole again. In this we take comfort in knowing that you will be our guardian angel and will always watch over us." Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her son, Dwain Walker Owens, and by her mother, Irene Laird.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William T. Owens, a retiree of the Fort Worth Police Department; daughters, Karen K. Bradshaw and husband, Sterling, Jada Sue Iglesias and husband, Frank; grandchildren, Dwain Michael McFarland and wife, Amanda, Lauren K. Funeral services for Dorothy M. Thompson Peaster, 92, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, were held Friday, July 6 in Albuquerque. Graveside services were held Monday, July 9 at Keene Memorial Park in Keene. Mrs. Peaster died Monday, July 2, 2001. She had lived in Albuquerque for 38 years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul M.Thompson; second husband, Harry Peaster; three brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth P. Thompson and wife, Juanita, and Dr. Richard H. Thompson; grandchildren, Renee Masker and Tim Thompson; and two great-grandsons, all of Albuquerque. LOU LAVELY
Memorial services for Lou Lavely, 64, of Burleson were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Cleburne. Mr. Lavely died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, in Fort Worth. He was a retired oil company employee.
Mr. Lavely is survived by his wife, Margaret L. Lavely; son, Louis E. Lavely Jr. and his wife, Anne, of South Carolina; two daughters, Janice M. Patterson and husband, Fred, of Arlington, and Nancy M. Schlotzhauer and husband, Rodney, of Burleson; grandchildren, Andrew M. Lavely, Emily A. Schlotzhauer and Jason M. Patterson; mother, Mary L. Lavely of Maryland; brother, Thomas E. Lavely of North Carolina; and sister, Rose M. Carpenter of Maryland. HARVEY M. HIGHTOWER
1947-2001
Graveside services for Harvey M. Hightower, 54, of Burleson were held Tuesday, July 3 at Austin Memorial Park in Austin, Texas.
Chief Hightower died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at a Fort Worth hospital. He was the Chief of Police for the City of Burleson.
He was born June 18, 1947, in Brownwood, Texas, the son of Hendrix Morgan and Opal Mae Griffith Hightower. He was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Burleson on November 15, 1993. Under his leadership, the department has grown to a staff of 41 commissioned officers, 15 civilian employees and five volunteers. The department's excellence has been recognized by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, which reaccredited the Burleson Police Department twice during his term as Police Chief. Chief Hightower had been with the Austin Police Department for 18 years, and served for two years as Police Chief in Wylie. He was a Vietnam combat veteran, having served as a sergeant and drill instructor in the U.S. Marine Corps. He earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Southwest Texas State University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology from St. Edward's University. He recently earned a state certification in public management. He was actively involved in various professional associations, including the North Texas Police Chiefs Association, the Texas Police Chiefs Association, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Chief Hightower is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Jill Hightower of Mesquite; daughter, Krispin Hightower of Dallas; fiancee, Margaret Mitchell of Wylie; and the Heflin Family. RONALD LESLIE MORRIS
Funeral services for Ronald Leslie Morris, 59, of Burleson will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 5 at the First Baptist Church of Burleson. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation is from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Mr. Morris died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at a Fort Worth hospice house. He was a chief deputy for the Johnson County Tax Office.
Mr. Morris, a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, had been a Burleson resident for 24 years. He managed the Rogers Shoe Store in downtown Fort Worth for many years. For the past 13 years he had been the chief deputy in the Johnson County Tax Office. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Burleson. He enjoyed being a handyman with numerous projects. Mr. Morris is survived by his wife of 41 years, Donna Morris of Burleson; son, Ronald Dwain Morris and wife, Kim, of Alvarado; daughter, Beverly Roper and husband, Harrison, of Belfast, Maine; brothers, Bob J. Morris of Aledo, Archie "Bud" Morris of Granbury; grandchildren, Misty Michelle Morris and Steven Albert Morris, both of Alvarado, Hanna Bethany Roper and Rebekah Leslie Roper, both of Belfast, Maine. BOB ADAMS

Graveside services for Bob Adams, 54, of Hillsboro were held Tuesday, July 3 at Hillcrest Garden of Memory, west of Hillsboro, Texas. Reverend Cathy L. Bourgoin of Line Street United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiated. Mr. Adams died Sunday, July 1, 2001, in Burleson. He was a plumber.
He was born June 21, 1947, in Houston, Texas, the son of Morris Robert Adams and Mary Margaret (Portele) Aldridge. He grew up in Houston and graduated from high school there. He joined the U.S. Army after high school, and afterwards lived around the Southwest. Mr. Adams married Pam McGill on November 27, 1987. He had been a resident of Hillsboro for the last 16 years and was a member of the Methodist Church.
Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his father, Morris Adams, and stepfather, F.M. "Buddy" Aldridge.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Adams of Burleson; mother, Mary Margaret Aldridge of Hillsboro; three children, Robert Adams and his wife, Candace, of Abilene, Shana Lucero and her husband, Jim, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Leigh Margaret Watkins and her husband, Mike, of Iron River, Michigan; one brother, Byron D. Adams of Hillsboro; two sisters, Barbara Hubbert and her husband, Dave, of Simonton, Texas, and Pat Jones and her husband, Don, of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family would appreciate memorials to Line Street United Methodist Church, 304 Line Street, Houston, Texas.

Frank E. Parker, 55, of Burleson died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Jean Parker of Burleson; stepsons, Douglas Ray Jeffress and wife, Maylene, Rodney Gene Jeffress and wife, Lisa, Wesley Bryant Jeffress, Aaron Dean Morgan and wife, Nita, all of Burleson; granddaughters, Tiffany Lynn Jeffress and Stefanie Denise Jeffress, both of Burleson; grandsons, Garrett Lee Wells and Brandon Lee Barrington, both of Burleson. JAMES (J.T.) THOMAS CRAWFORD II

A memorial service for James (J.T.) Thomas Crawford II, 52, of Kingman, Arizona will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday July 8 at the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Youth Chapel. Edmund Fry will officiate. Mr. Crawford died Monday, June 25, 2001, in Kingman. He was a former resident of Keene. He was born August 2, 1948 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He lived in Keene for many years. He worked in a motorcycle shop and played on the Keene baseball team. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. James, better known to friends and family as J.T., will be remembered as a true lover of American Indian and Civil War history. At one time he headed an association called "Friends of Flint." He led many expeditions through Arizona and New Mexico. He leaves behind a history of American Indian and Civil War relics. All who crossed his path loved him, and he was admired by many historians. Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his father, Major James T. Crawford; and mother, Marie Cherry Crawford. His is survived by his sister, Cherry (Totsie) Crawford of Washington, D.C., and numerous cousins. He will be missed as a brother and a true friend to all.

Funeral services for Patricia Ann Cox, 57, of Dublin were held Friday, June 29 at First Baptist Church of Dublin. Reverend W. Dean Bradley officiated. Burial was at Hanson Cemetery. Mrs. Cox died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in Comanche County, Texas. She was a Registered Nurse.
She was born May 18, 1944, in Fort Worth to Thomas Reyes Vargas and Juanita Audrey Reeves Vargas. She married Charles Dennis Cox on April 6, 1962, in Fort Worth. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dublin. Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Thomas Reyes Vargas, Jr.; uncle, Raymond Humphrey; brother-in-law, Timothy Wilson; and father-in-law, Hollis Cox.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Dennis Cox of Dublin; son, Charles Robert (Bobby) Cox of Granbury; son and daughter-in-law, John David and Kathy Joy Cox of Dublin; grandsons, Kyle Chandler Cox of Granbury and David Harrison Cox of Dublin; granddaughter, Ashlynd Leigh Cox of Granbury; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Helen and Jay Jarvis of Bloomington, Indiana, and Violet Audrey and Delton Ray Berna of Burleson; sister, Gloria Wilson of Fort Worth; mother-in-law, Lavada Cox of Dublin; sister-in-law, Barbara Vargas of Euless; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services for Robert Wayne Lummus, 41, of Kennedale were held Monday, June 25 at Emerald Hills Memorial Chapel in Kennedale. Burial was at Emerald Hills Memorial Park.
Mr. Lummus died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at an Arlington hospital. He was a machinist.
He was born February 17, 1960, in Lubbock. He was a longtime resident of Fort Worth. Mr. Lummus enjoyed music, stock car racing and building model cars. He will be greatly missed and always loved by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Mr. Lummus was preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie Lummus; father, Lonnie Lummus; and brother, James Lummus.
He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Paula Lummus of Kennedale; son, Dustin Lummus of Kennedale; daughter Laycee Lummus of Kennedale; brother, Ronnie Lummus of Everman; nephews, John and Jeremy Lummus and Brennon Cogburn; numerous other relatives; and many friends. WILLIS ARNOLD ESTELL

Funeral services for Willis Arnold Estell, 90, of Burleson were held Thursday, June 28 at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Burleson. A graveside service was held Friday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Hot Spring, Arkansas.
Mr. Estell died Monday, June 25, 2001,at his home in Burleson. He was a retired aircraft electrician.
He was born October 8, 1910, in Harvel, Illinois, and had been a resident of Burleson since 1969 when he moved from Fort Worth. He was a member of the Fort Worth First Seventh-day Adventist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He retired from General Dynamics in 1972 where he worked in test instrumentation. Mr. Estell was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Velma Pittman Estell.
He is survived by daughters, Arlene Tucker and husband, Duane, of Keene, Maxine Smith of Joshua, and Donna Hines and husband, Bobby, of Ovilla; four grandchildren, Mike Tucker of Mansfield, Vicki Tucker of Roanoke, Donald Hines of Alvarado, and Tim Hines of Plano; five great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Pete Homishak of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews. ZILPHA "NANA" LANGLEY

Funeral services for Zilpha Langley, 94, of Burleson were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 28 at the Laurel Land Memorial Chapel of Burleson. Interment was at Parkdale Cemetery in Arlington.
Mrs. Langley died Monday, June 25, 2001, in Burleson. She was a retired child care provider.
She is survived by daughter, Carolyn Sue Hurst of Burleson; grandchildren, Tim Mankins and wife, Joy, of Joshua, Tina Mankins of Burleson, Roy Hurst, Jr. of Burleson; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Shelby Mankins of Joshua; several nieces and nephews and many friends. We all love you and miss you, Nana. She will be especially missed by her "adopted" family Vernon and Barbara Wells and Meredith, who loved her Nana with all her heart.
