Dorothy Verbeck Chandler, 79, of Houston, died Tuesday, June 14, 2004, at Houston Hospice in Houston. Graveside services will be held at 3 Pm, Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at the Anahuac Cemetery with Father Angelo Scolozzi officiating and burial following thereafter. Memorial services will be held at 10 Am, Thursday, June 17, 2004 at the Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Houston. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Mrs. Chandler was born in San Francisco, CA to parents; Albert and Mary Dunivan Verbeck, and has resided in the Houston are for the past 26 years. She was loving wife of 36 years to Ernest W. Chandler, a retired personnel director for Wells Fargo Bank and previous ownership after 31 years of service, member of the catholic church, graduate of the Notre Dame High School, had attended the san Francisco Community College, and enjoyed reading, gardening, and dancing.

Gradney
Lawrence Gradney, 75, of Dayton, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown after an extended illness. A native of Devers and previously of Houston, he had lived the past 15 years in Dayton. He was a retired welder who loved to hunt fish and work in his garden. Most of all he loved his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mabel, his brother, John Gradney and his sister, Mary Evelyn Guillory. Service for Mr. Gradney will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 12, 2004 at St. Joseph s Catholic Church in Dayton with Father Joseph Malayampuram officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anne s Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. He is survived by his sons: Lee L. Gradney of Kyle and Len Ral Gradney of Houston; his daughters: Mabel Irna Gradney of Dayton, Melba Ann Gradney of Dayton, Melwina Annier Gradney of Dayton, Marlon Iris Gradney of Dayton, and Meldera Ione Gradney of Dayton; his brothers: Velma Gradney of Houston, Roosevelt Gradney and wife Lucille of Raywood, Adam Joe Gradney and wife Mary Lou of Raywood and Ernest Gradney of Houston; his sisters: Ernestine Wheatley and husband Roland of Houston and Roselee Mayfield of Houston; also Five Grandchildren. Rosary is set for 6:00 p.m., Friday evening at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton and visitation will continue that evening until 9:30 p.m.

Fisher
Charles W. Fisher, 78, of Liberty, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at his home in Liberty, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 12, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church of Liberty, with Dr. Charles Greene officiating. Interment will follow at the Liberty City Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, June 11, 2004 from 6 PM until 8 PM at Allison Funeral Service. He was born on March 18, 1926, in San Antonio, Texas to parents, Charles William Fisher Sr. and Florence Calhoon Fisher of Liberty, Texas. He was a lifelong resident of Liberty. He attended Liberty Public Schools and was a 1943 Liberty High School graduate. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp and served 23 months, 16 of which were spent in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II. He served in France as a Cryptographer until V-E day and then served as an Administrator with the Army of Occupation in Germany until discharged in July 1946 as a Sergeant. He was a recipient of the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal Germany. Mr. Fisher graduated from the University of Texas in 1950 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, and then received his Juris Doctor degree from the Baylor Law School in Waco in 1954. He was the General Manager of the Chas. W. Fisher Sr., Estate since 1950. He served as a Trustee of the Liberty Independent School District for 16 years, two of those as President. He served 17 years as Liberty County s representative on the Board of Directors of the Trinity River Authority of Texas by appointment of three Texas Governors Price Daniels, John Connally, and Preston Smith serving two years as vice president. In 1966, the Chamber of Commerce named him Liberty s Outstanding Citizen. He was a member of the Liberty Rotary Club since 1950 and president in 1959-60. He also served as President of the Atascocita Historical Society of Southeast Texas since it was organized in 1973. He was a member of the Liberty County Historical Commission since 1967. He was a former member and chairman of the Texas Conference Commission on Archives and History of the United Methodist Church. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Liberty since 1933 and served 22 years as chairman of its Board of Trustees (1965-1986). He was a member of the Men s Bible Class. He maintained a law practice in Liberty since 1954 and has been the Trust Officer of the First Liberty National Bank since 1979. He was a member of the State Bar of Texas since 1954. In 1968, he was licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court. He was a member and former vice president and secretary of the Liberty County Bar Association.

Britton
Dan Earl Sonny Britton Jr., 33, of Winnie, formerly of Anahuac, passed away at his residence on Wednesday. Visitation will be held from 5-9pm on Friday at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Anahuac. Rev. Gary Hillyard will officiate. Interment will follow at Anahuac Cemetery in Anahuac. Sonny was born on December 22, 1970 in Houston to parents Dan Earl Britton Sr. and Madeline Butler. He lived most of his life in east Chambers County. He graduated from Anahuac High School and worked as an electrical supervisor at Huntsman Chemicals in Dayton. Sonny loved hunting, fishing and boating. He also enjoyed hanging out with family and friends. He was a member of Crosby First Baptist Church. Sonny was preceded in death by his mother Madeline Downs. He is survived by his daughter Chelsi Britton of Crosby, sisters Dannette Sirmons and husband Elbert of Winnie, Tammy Duhon and husband Raymond of Anahuac, his step-parents William and Barbara Downs of Oak Island, niece Ashley Duhon of Anahuac, nephews Blake and Mason Duhon of Anahuac and his special friends Richard, Sarah and Theresa Maxwell of Pasadena and Allen and Billie Smith of Anahauc. He is also survived by several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends.

Peter Jannise
Peter Jannise, age 80, died Saturday June 5, 2004, in Liberty, TX. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 8, 2004 at the Allison Funeral Service 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, TX., with burial following in the Guedry Cemetery, Batson, TX. A visitation will be held on Monday June 7, 2004 from 5 P.M. until 8 P. M. at the Allison Funeral Service. Mr. Jannise was born to Theobert and Evelina Blanchard Jannise on July 14, 1923 in Nome, TX., He graduated from the Liberty High School in 1941 and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of WWII, He married Mattie Belle Tulley and he worked for the Marathon Oil Company in Texas City for 35 years. He had a 25 year perfect attendance at work. Peter was for a time a Union steward while working at the refinery. He was a Catholic and he enjoyed his job, he had a natural talent with art and his continued interest in investments. Peter is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Blanch McMillen, Jeane Chandlier, and Hazel Mary Talbon, borthers, Toby, Ted, Joe, Julian, and Nap Jannise. He is survived by his wife of 27 years Mattie Belle Jannise of Liberty, a brother, Dennis Jannise of Port Arthur, TX., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cooper
Roscoe Lee Cooper, 80 of Bandera, Texas formerly of Liberty, died Sunday, June 6, 2004 in San Antonio, TX. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 8, 2004 from 4pm until 8pm at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty. A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Pipe Creek Presbyterian Church in Pipe Creek, TX. Mr. Cooper was born December 6, 1923 in Orange Field, Texas to O.T. & Pearl Knight Cooper. He married Mattie Edmonson Wyatt on January 10, 1987. He was a member of Liberty Masonic Lodge #48 and the Houston Scottish Rite. He was retired from the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII, and from the City of Houston. He is survived by his wife Mattie Cooper of Bandera, TX; sons Harvey Cooper and wife Claudia of Double Oak, TX, Jim Wyatt & wife Patrice of Gardiner, Maine; daughter Janet Wyatt of Switzerland; grandsons Harvey Cooper, Jr. & Sean Wyatt; granddaughters Shawn Wyatt-Parker & Shiloah Wyatt and 6 great grandchildren. Stokes
Marvin Allen Stokes, 59, of Pasadena, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at the M.D. Anderson Medical Center in Houston. Funeral services will be held at 11 Am, Thursday, June 10, 2004, at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel in Anahuac with burial following at Anahuac Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Wednesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Marvin was born January 6, 1945, in Port Arthur, to parents; William E. and Maudry Breaux Stokes, a former resident of Houston and has resided in the Pasadena area for the past 35 years. He was an inspector for the Harris County and City of Houston Road, Street, and Bridge for the past 25 years, graduate of the Anahuac High School class of 1963, former member of the Elks Lodge, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, building models, traveling, spending time with family and friends. Marvin was also proud of his Cajun roots, and will be remembered as a loving husband and father, who enjoyed and lived life one day at a time. Mr. Stokes was preceded in death by his father: William E. Stokes and nephew: Chad Thompson. McGinty
Joseph Drue McGinty, Jr. passed away Saturday, June 5 at Tomball Hospital. He was born May 23, 1928 to J.D. and Bertha McGinty in Dayton, TX. where he attended school and graduated in the class of 1945. Three years later he graduated from Baylor University. He was a member of the Tri-Beta Honorary Fraternity. He then enrolled in Pharmacy School at University of Houston. Five months before graduating, he was drafted into the Marine Corp. where he trained in San Diego and Cherry Point, N.C. before being sent to Korea and later transferred to Japan. Upon release from the Marine Corp., he finished at University of Houston with a B.S. Degree in Pharmacy. He returned to Dayton and entered into business with his father at McGinty s Drug Store. Some 10 years later, he was joined by his brother-in-law, E.R. (Sonny) Richter, Jr. and for the next 25 years they worked side by side in the family business. During that time, Drue was a member of the Dayton Rotary Club, City Council, American Legion, and Chamber of Commerce. He was a life time member of First Baptist Church of Dayton where his paternal grandfather, R.J. McGinty had served as pastor in the early 1900 s. Drue is survived by his sons Jim and his wife, Kerri; daughters, Cathy McGinty and Tanya Fraden. He is also survived by grandsons, John Drue and Max McGinty of Tomball, the lights of his life and by Noah Teutch and Erika Fraden. Also survived by sister, Tish Richter and husband, Ernest (Sonny), niece Robyn Richter Kline and husband Allyn, nephew E. R. (Bubba) Richter, III and wife Nancy. Also survived by great nephews Hunter Richter, Chis Conner, and Matt Kline. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Ann McGinty.

Tumlinson
Dee Roy Tumlinson, 50, of Cleveland died Friday, June 4, 2004 at home after an extended illness. A native of Houston he had lived in Kenefick for 18 years and the past 3 years in Cleveland. Devoted Husband and Father, he graduated from Crosby High School in 1971 and received an Applied Science and Engineering degree from San Jacinto College. Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m., Monday, June 7, 2004 at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie with the Eulogy by Linda Pyle and Closing Prayer by Rev. Bill Cauthorn. Survivors are Wife: Marsha Tumlinson of Cleveland; Mother: Kathy Ann Brady of Dayton; Sons: Dee Roy Tumlinson, III (Trey) of Cleveland; Daughter: Heather Gassen and Kevin of Franklin; Brothers: Steve Tumlinson and Dora of Deer Park, Terry Tumlinson of Dayton and Roger Tumlinson of LaPorte, Granddaughter: Kailey Gaffen and Nieces: Cady and Crystal Tumlinson Grandmother: Effie Swink of Pasadena. Simmons
Arthur Britton Simmons, 68, of Dayton, passed away on Saturday night in a Houston hospital. Visitation will be held from 4pm-8pm on Monday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Tuesday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton. Arthur was born on August 9, 1935 in Newton, TX to parents Preston E. Simmons and Ada King. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Air Force. He has lived in the Dayton area for the last 28 years where he worked as a carpenter and homebuilder. A Baptist, Arthur had a strong faith in God. He was a good man who never met a stranger and was always ready to help. In his spare time he enjoyed working in the yard, flowers, fishing, hunting and tinkering around with several projects. Above all, Arthur loved to be around his family. He truly enjoyed family get-togethers and spending time with his grandchildren. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Madie Willis, Maxine Evans and Lula Dorsey and brother Herman Simmons. He is survived by his Loving Wife Nila Simmons of Dayton, daughters Sheryl Gilbert and husband Roy of Navasota, Thelma Catalano and husband Domenic of Burton, Donna Waddell and husband Sonny of Magnolia, Sherry Diab and husband Mike of Dallas and Connie Jones of Houston, brother Ottis Simmons and wife Ruth of Buna, sisters Osalene Sands and husband Oliver of Orange, Irene Deal of Orange and Mille Catherine Lazarine and husband Henry of Houston and his special nephew Victor Willis and wife Veronica. As well as numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, he is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Arthur was eagerly awaiting the arrival of 2 more great-grandchildren.

Arthur L. Brummett, age 66, died in a Houston Hospital Thursday, June 3, 2004. Burial will follow in the Cooke Memorial Cemetery, Liberty, Tx. A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 6, 2004 at the Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, Tx., from 7:00 P. M. until 9:00 P. M. Art was born on December 3, 1937 in Aransas Pass, Texas to parents, O.C. and Lela Mae Bradshaw Brummett. Art graduated from the Marianna High School, Marianna, Arkansas and served in the U.S. Army. He married Jo Ann Jorden on May 1, 1964 in Dayton, TX and moved from La Porte, Tx to Liberty, Tx. in 1964. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Men s Bible Class and was very active with the Youth Department of the church. Art was a member of the Liberty Lion s Club for many years and was the current Tail Twister of the club. Art is preceded in death by his parents, O.C. and Lela Mae Brummett. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jo Ann Brummett of Liberty, a son and daughter-in-law, Ernie and Peggy Arrington of Liberty, TX., a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jack Rives of Liberty, TX., five brothers, Donnie, Carlton, Curtis, Darrell, and Ricky Brummett, a sister, Sandra Keefer, and two grandchildren, Kara A. Lolita Ann Ornelas, 30 of Liberty, died Sunday, May 30, 2004 in a Houston, Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 4pm, Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Cooke Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1pm until service time at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty. Mrs. Ornelas was born September 7, 1973 in Liberty to Pat & Lidia Mary Garcia Patterson. She was a homemaker and of the Catholic Faith. She is preceded in death by her mother and her grandparents Robert & Pearl Patterson. She is survived by her husband Salomon Ornelas; daughters Selina, Rosa, & Beatriz Alexis Ornales; father Pat Patterson; grandparents Roy & Cathlina Garcia; aunts Bertha Lopez & husband Aguedo all of Liberty, Linda Potts & husband Oley, Adellita Garcia both of Conroe; uncles Jimmy Garcia & wife Christy of Austin & Ronnie Patterson of Mont Belvieu. Francis Willette Allen, 75, of Cleveland died May 16, 2004 in Beaumont after an extended illness. She was born May 14, 1929 in Yell, Arkansas to parents, Olen Elbert and Ollie McBride Lakey. She had lived the past 9 years in Cleveland. She is survived by her husband Pat Allen of Arkansas; sons: Steve Ray Allen of Copenhagen, Denmark; daughters: Trish Nethercot of China, Lorretta Higgeothen of Little Rock, Arkansas, Ginger Wages of Conway, Arkansas, Linda Jackson of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Cindy Simpson of Dallas; brother: Joe Lakey of Conway; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The family memorialized Mrs. Allen on Wednesday, May 19th at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Clayborn Theodore Leonard, 67 of Liberty, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in Houston. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 30, 2004 in the First United Methodist Church in Liberty, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 29, 2004 from 5:00 p. m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Allison Funeral Service. Mr. Leonard was born on August 21, 1936 in Houston, Texas to parents, Henry and Dorothy Leonard. Former service station owner and worked for Liberty Dayton Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, Jeep, Inc. He was a member of the South Liberty Methodist of Liberty, Texas. He enjoyed doing carpenter work. He is preceded in death by his parents, and wife Norma Jean Odom Leonard. He is survived by his daughters; Tammy Pollock and husband James E. of Liberty, Tracy Abshier and husband Scotty of Raywood; son, Clayborn Denton Leonard and wife Kalena of Hardin. Two brothers, Jerry Leonard and David Leonard wife Brenda of Liberty also survive along with sister, Pat Campbell of Liberty and two grandchildren, Clay Allen Leonard and Madison Paige Abshier. Special friend and companion, Beth Rooks and son Frederick Rooks also survive him.

Musgrove
Edith Lucille Musgrove, 92, of Cameron, West Virginia, formerly of Moundsville, WV died Tuesday May 25, 2004 in Cameron. Visitation will be held from 5pm-9pm on Saturday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday at Bethel Assembly of God in Liberty. The Rev. Darrell Brown will officiate. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Liberty under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Edith was born on October 23, 1911 in Nacogdoches, TX to Felix Fussell and Minnie Ballow. She was a former grocery store owner in Liberty, TX. She was also a member of Bethel Assembly of God and a former member of the Rebecca Lodge in Liberty. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband S.C. Shorty Musgrove, sons Willis, Leon and Earl Mancil, daughter Irene Cummings and two grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Alene Anderson and husband Alvin of Moundsville, WV, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers be made to Bethel Assembly of God in Liberty.

Ina Hafer, 84, of Conroe, formerly of Hull-Daisetta, died on Wednesday in Conroe. Visitation will be held from 5-9pm on Friday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Saturday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton. Ina was born on June 14, 1919 in Hufsmith, Texas to parents General Marion Lilleux and Julia Caroline Baker. She lived in the Hull-Daisetta for many years where she worked for a time in the school cafeteria. She also worked with her husband as a car dealer and spent a great deal of time preparing cars for sale. She was of the Baptist faith. In her spare time Ina enjoyed dancing and flowers. Ina is preceded in death by her parents, her son Henry Lyrock and her sister Ona Roth. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jerry Lyrock and wife Michelle of Jacksonville, FL, Larry Lyrock and wife Tonya of Cypress, TX and Jimmy Lyrock, great grandchildren Daniel, Sarah, Jeremy and Bethany Lyrock, and nieces Helen Hudson and husband Neal of Conroe and Tennie Dixon of Livingston.

Enrique Chavez, age 60, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, in Liberty, TX. Services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at the Allison Funeral Service, at 2:00 P. M., with burial in the Liberty Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be on Wednesday, May 25, 2004 from 10:00 A.M. until 8:00 P. M. Mr. Chavez was a native of San Bartolo, San Luis, Mexico and was a 31 year residence of Liberty and worked for the Enterprise Gas Company of Houston. for 25 years.He was a Catholic. Mr. Chavez is preceded in death by his parents, Jacinto Chavez and Fendencia Mata Chavez, a son, Jose Luis Chavez. Ronnie Dean, 52, of Dayton died Sunday, May 23, 2004 in Houston after an extended illness. A native of Pasadena, Ronnie had lived in Dayton for the past 20 years. He attended High School in Angleton and served his country in the United States Army. He was retired from Trinity Valley Oil Company where he worked for many years as a driver. He was preceded in death by his father: James O. Dean. Service for Mr. Dean will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Rev. Jay Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at Ryan Cemetery. Alma Louise Sister Cotten Foster, 81 of Batson, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 in a Beaumont Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at First Baptist Church in Batson. Interment will follow at Guedry Cemetery in Batson under the direction of Allison Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 5pm until 9pm on Monday at the church. Mrs. Foster was born October 4, 1922 to William Edward Ed & Kate Morris Cotten in Batson, where she lived all her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Batson. She enjoyed talking on the CB and driving fast. She is preceded in death by her husband James Edward Foster, Sr., parents William Ed & Kate Cotten and a sister Jewell Ruth Cotten Snider. She is survived by her daughter Jo Ed Foster; grandsons James Jimmy Allen Flowers & Derek Lee Flowers.

Willie Joe Smith, 70, passed from this life Friday afternoon at his home. He was born November 14, 1933 in Finger, Tennessee. Joe, formerly of Dayton has been a resident of Galveston for 6 years. He was previously employed by Mims Meat Market and Dairy Queen. Joe will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 20 years, Audrey; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Jackie Smith of Spring; son and daughter-in-law Ricky and Deborah Bradley of Humble; and daughter and son-in-law Michelle and James McElhaney of Dayton. He is survived by 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Joe is also survived by two other sons Willie Jr. and Jerry . He leaves behind his four-legged family members- Cats: Campi and Lucky and Dog: Elvis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Troy and Sindy Aberdeen, his brother James Troy Smith and his sister Hazel Conners, all of Finger, Tennessee. Paul Alton Livingston, 40, of Michigan, formerly of Dayton, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2004. Memorial services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton with committal services following at Hardin Chapel Cemetery in Hardin. Paul was born on September 5, 1963 in San Augustine, TX, to parents James Paskel and Jutice Ann King Livingston. He lived in Dayton most of his life where he worked as a truck driver until he moved to Michigan. Paul was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter Diana Livingston of Baytown, son Anthony Livingston of Graham, TX, brothers James Livingston of Hillman Michigan and Mark Livingston of Marshall, TX, sister Pamela Maes of Center, TX and his twin sister Paula A. Barbara Jean Turner, born July 13th 1925 in Westwood, California passed away at her daughters home in Garland, Texas on May 15, 2004. She was a resident of Dayton, Texas for over 20 years and had worked many years in the printing industry for the Premier Printing Company in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her two daughters, a son, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Now her heart and soul can return back to her true home, Honolulu, Hawaii, where she spent many happy healthy years of her youth. Rest in peace, Mom. A.E. Archer Jr., 82 of Dayton, passed away on Sunday morning at a Baytown hospital. Memorial Services were held at 6 Pm on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Services concluded at the Chapel. A.E. was born on August 22, 1921 in Baytown, to parents Arthur E. Archer Sr. and Lucille Cowan. He has been a resident of Dayton for the last 11 years. He lived most of his life in the Baytown area where he worked as a machinist for Exxon for over 50 years before his retirement. He was a veteran of WWII where he served in the Navy. A.E. was an ordained minister and a member of Eastgate Church. He was a member and past president of the Machinists Union in Baytown. A.E. Loved to play in his spare time. Throughout his life he had many boats and cars as well as owned and piloted his own airplane. A.E. was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Martha Olbrich, brother Francis C. Archer and Niece Valerie Archer. He is survived by loving extended family Vita, Doug, Heather and Pete O Reilly of Dayton, son Everett Archer and wife Cassie of Houston, brother Robert H. Archer and wife Shirley of Crosby, Nephew Robert Louis Archer and wife Susan of Santa Fe, TX, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Harvey Joe Hanson, age 42, died Monday at his home, in Houston, Tx Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at the Allison Funeral Service 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, TX. Mr. Hanson was born July 19, 1961 in South Houston, TX., to Harvey Joe Hanson Sr., and Leoda Oliver Hanson. He graduated from the Liberty High School in 1980 and was a Automobile Body and Paint Specialist. Mr. Hanson loved to deer hunt and fish. He was a Protestant. Mr. Harvey is preceded in death by his parents. Hall
Jessie Doyle Hall, age 81, passed away on Tuesday May 4, 2004 with his family by his side the last two weeks of his life. He was born on August 31st, 1922 in Saratoga, TX., to Allen and Clara Mae Farris Hall, and graduated from the Hull-Daisetta High School in 1941. During High School, he wrote for the school paper. After High School, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy during WW II. He served on the U.S.S. Charles Ausburne from 1942 to 1946 and received a Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism in action. He was an electrician for 35 years and during his career he worked for the City of Liberty and Gulf States in Beaumont, TX. He retired in 1983. He was a 46 year resident of Liberty Texas and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He loved to sing, write poetry, collecting model antique cars, working in the yard and telling family stories to his grandchildren. In his 81years he touched countless lives. He lived his life to the fullest, enjoying every minute and enjoying the people around him. He was proud to have served his country and also was proud of his family and his life long friendships. He will be missed and remembered by all that knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Daniel Hall, father, Allen Hall, mother, Clara Hall, and brother Earl Hall. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sybil Mae Hall, his sons, Harlan J. Hall, Kenneth W. Hall, and Ray N Hall, daughter, Denise Hall, daughters-in-laws, Rebecca Hall, Lori Hall, and Pam Hall, brothers, Dearl Hall and Allen Hall, Jr., sister-in-law, Audrey Hall, and ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Vallie Datel Faulkner, 75, of Wharton, died Thursday, April 29, 2004 at Green Acres in Baytown after an extended illness. She was born December 03, 1928 in Lampasas, Texas to parents James Samuel and Ester Wall Chambliss. She was a longtime resident of Dayton before moving to Wharton 30 years ago. While living in Dayton, Vallie worked for Dayton ISD, was a member of the PTA, and the First United Methodist Church. She and her late husband Frank Datel supported their sons and the Dayton Broncos in all of their athletic endeavors by attending all games, no matter where or when. After moving to Wharton she was a member of the Senior Citizens of Wharton. She was very active in a bowling league in Wharton and loved traveling, having fun and tending her flower garden. Vallie loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside service for Mrs. Faulkner will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 2, 2004 at Eastgate Cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. She was an active member of the community and retired after 45 years of service from the City of Anahuac as city secretary. Eva was a member of First Baptist Church of Anahuac where she was active in Sunday school and helped with the Awanas youth program. She enjoyed working in the yard, spending time with family and cheering on her grandchildren in sports. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Buddy Johnston; brothers, Franklin Watson and Eugene Watson; sisters, Hazel Lowe and Elveen Hines. Remkes
Johnny Remkes, 81, of Tarkington Prairie, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2004 at the St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston. He was a native of Dayton, lifetime resident of Liberty County, a Businessman and Rancher. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dayton, American Quarter Horse Association where he owned the horse "Fraction" which was champion 2 years running, trained and showed quarter horses. He also was a past American Quarter Horse Judge and supported and trained youth to participate in youth quarter horse shows. Mr. Remkes was a past football coach and basketball referee, Director of the Saddlerock Corporation and rodeo chairman of the first weekly televised rodeo from Dayton, Texas, rodeo chairman, director and president of the Trinity Valley Exposition where he was instrumental in building a new covered arena at the Trinity Valley Exposition. He participated in rodeo and quarter horse events dating back to the 1940's. Mr. Remkes also served on the Liberty County Central Appraisal District review board and as director of the Liberty County Central Appraisal District. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Rev. Jay Barnes officiating. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Bert Remkes of Tarkington Prairie; sister, Ida Marie Winzer of Winnie; brother-in-law, Ken Poland of Tarkington Prairie; niece, Cherie Chappell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and numerous more nieces and nephews. Jimmie Ray Findley, age 69, died Friday, April 23, 2004 in Liberty, TX. Mr. Findley was born in Crockett, TX., to J. M. and Rubye Lenora Smith Findley on May 13, 1934. He graduated from the St. John s High School in Shreveport, LA, in 1952, and was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, as Drill Instructor at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX. Mr. Findley attended Baylor University and Lamar University, and retired from the Baker Oil Tools as a Quality Control Specialist. He was a member of the Baptist church, the Elks Lodge, and the Liberty Youth Baseball Association. He Enjoyed sports, baseball, and fishing. Mr. Findley, was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Koby Garrett Smith. Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Renee Findley of El Cajon, CA., a daughter and son-in-law, Robin F. and Mark A. Smith of Spring, TX., a grandson, Daniel W. Findley of New Orleans, LA., a Cousin, Janie Lunceford, of Liberty, Aunt, Maggie Findley of Liberty. Scattering of his ashes will be in the Pacific Ocean. Lewis
Kenny Lewis, 42, of Dayton, died Sunday, April 25, 2004 in Dayton. He was a native of Houston, lived in Dayton for the last 25 years, was an operator at TEPPCO in Mt. Belvieu for the last 4 years and a member of The St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton with Father Joseph Malayampuram officiating. Burial will follow at the Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Zieschang
Ernie Zieschang, age 70, died Saturday April 24 in Liberty, TX. He was born on August 7, 1933 to Ewald and Pearl Forbes Zieschang in Taylor, TX. He graduated from the Freeport High School in 1950 and the University of Houston in 1954. He married Darlene Rose Dunn on December 4, 1953 in Freeport, TX., and served in the U.S. Army for two years. Ernie was employed by the Brazosport Facts in 1956 as a business manager until moving to Liberty as Publisher and Editor of The Vindicator in July of 1967. He retired in June of 2000. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Liberty and was the President of the Men s Bible Class. He was a member of the Liberty Lions Club, he was a Past President of the Liberty Chamber of Commerce and The Citizen of the Year. He served as a Highway Road Hand , and worked with the Child Protective Services. Ernie is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Wallace Ray Zieschang. Survivors are his wife, Darlene Zieschang of Liberty, TX., sons and daughters-in-law, Kirk and Kay Zieschang of Liberty, Ted and Cheryl Zieschang of Lufkin, TX., daughters and son-in-law, Beth and Randy Johnson of Huffman, TX., Kathy Rhodes, of Liberty, Sister-in-law, Barbara Zieschang. Eleven grandchildren; Zane Johnson, Aaron Zieschang, Whitney Morris, Mitchell Morris, Mark Zieschang, Kaitlen Zieschang, Kacie Johnson, Kelsey Rhodes, Brady Zieschang, Jamie Zieschang, and Ryan Rhodes. Curl
James Brice Curl, 59 of Baytown, was surrounded by his family when he departed this life early on the morning of Friday, April 23, 2004 at a Liberty hospital. Jim was born in San Antonio on the second day of December, 1944 to Thomas and Audrey Allsup Curl. After his father's death, Jim's mother would marry restaurant owner Smitty Hill, Sr. He would develop his love of cooking while working at his Hill's Restaurant on the Seawall as a teenager. After graduating from Ball High School, he attended Stephen F. Austin University where he met Glenda Flournoy. They married on January 26, 1965 and lived for a short time in Lufkin and San Antonio before moving to Liberty and started their family. Jim worked at the Ag. Co-op, and later for his late father-in-law, Keith Flournoy. He joined the Liberty Police Department and later the Liberty County Sheriff Department. In 1974, they moved to Mont Belvieu, where he joined the Chambers County Sheriff Department. He later went to work for Mobay Chemical Company (now Bayer) as an operator and would become security supervisor, and eventually contract safety supervisor. While working at Mobay, Jim served as Chambers County Constable for 4 1/2 terms. With Bayer, he was involved in the Fire Brigade, Safety Department, West Chambers County War on Drugs and countless youth related fund raising and educational programs. Jim was District Chairman of the Houston Metro "Go Texan" Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and recently became active in the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo. Anyone that knew Jim knows that other than his family his greatest passion was cooking, especially his famous gumbo. He will be remembered and missed by the hundreds of cooking teams he headed up. In the early 80's he started Curls Catering and owned several restaurants with Glenda. Jim did all of this all while never missing the chance to escort and attend every Barbers Hill Eagles football game. Jim will be loved and missed by many, and will always be remembered for his tremendous love for his family and his incredible work ethic. Preceded in death by his father Thomas W. Curl, he is survived by his children, Brice Curl of Malvern, AR; Jennifer P. McKelroy and her husband, Brooks of Liberty; his mother and step-father, Audrey and Smitty Hill, Sr. of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Emily, Ellie, Annie and Brooks McKelroy, IV, and Trevor Curl; brothers, Tommy Curl and wife, Nancy of La Marque, Smitty Hill, Jr. and wife, Margo of Nacogdoches, and Billy Hausman and wife, Barbara of Pearland; and his loving friend companion Mary Hudspeth of Baytown. Celebration of Jim's life will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2004, at L.A. Crespo Funeral Directors, Rev. Danny R. Biddy officiating. Interment will follow at Palm Cemetery. Schultz
Robert Edward Bob Schultz, 84, of Anahuac, passed away at Bayside Community Hospital in Anahuac. Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Anahuac. The Rev. John Black and Rev. Everett McCollum will officiate. Interment will follow at Anahuac Cemetery in Anahuac under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Bob was born on April 1, 1920 in Dayton to parents John Frederick Fritz Schultz and Katherine Watts. He was a civilian pilot and flight instructor during WWII and shortly after, he entered the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Anahuac for 55 years. He was very active in the church where he was a board member, lay witness and Sunday school teacher. He was very involved in his community. Bob was also active with the Boy Scouts of America. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Bettye Schultz, granddaughter Jennifer Schultz and brothers Louis Schultz and Fred Schultz. He is survived by his sons Jan Robert Schultz and wife Betty of San Antonio and Joe Mark Schultz and wife Tyna of Anahuac, daughter Cynthia Ann Osborne and husband Jeff of Austin, grandchildren Karl Schultz, Kate Schultz, Mike Schultz, Jasper Schultz, Alex Schultz, Trenda Osborne and Maggie Osborne, great-grandchildren Timmy Allen and Kaly Schultz and nephew Albert Schultz and wife Marge. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Anahuac.

McDonald
Danny Joe McDonald, Sr. of Houston, passed away on Friday at a Houston hospital. Visitation will be held from 3pm-9pm on Sunday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Monday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. The Rev. Nelson Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Liberty. Danny was born on July 30, 1953 in Houston, to parent s Herchel McDonald and Patsy Laverne Clevenger. Danny was a veteran of the Viet Nam War where he served in the Marines. He had been a lifetime resident of the area where he worked in Heating and Air Conditioning for 29 years. He loved to sit on the back porch and have a drink with friends. He also raised horses and dogs. Danny was preceded in death by his parents and brother David McDonald. He is survived by his loving wife Sandra Lee Cookie McDonald, daughters Denise Groff and husband Donnie of Highlands and Wendy Walsh and husband (Darrel) of Crosby, sons Danny McDonald Jr., Trevor McDonald of MS and Tracy McDonald of MS, sister, Linda Sue Smith and husband Nelson of Sheldon and brothers Larry Schion and wife Terry Sue of Jacinto City, TX and Bobby Richardson of Jacinto City, TX. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jesse Frank Lee, Sr., 55, of Dayton died Thursday, April 22, 2004 in Grand Isle, Louisiana. He was a native of Liberty, Texas and had lived the past 22 years in Dayton. Thompson
Greg Thompson, age 21, died Thursday April 22, 2004. Funeral services will be held on Monday April 26, 2004 at 10:00 a. m., at the Allison Funeral Service 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, TX. With burial in the Moss Hill Community Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2004 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Allison Funeral Service. Greg was born on July 14, 1982 in Corpus Christi, TX., to Gary Dean and Judy Kay Wood Thompson. He was a graduate of the Hardin High School in 2000, and attended Lamar University. Greg was a welder for the BBB Tank Services Company, a Petroleum Chemical Company in Beaumont, TX. He was a member of the Baptist church, and enjoyed sports, and was a Little League Coach for Base Ball and Basket Ball Teams. Greg is preceded in death by both grandfathers, C. J. Wood, and Tommy Thompson, and grandmother, Dorothy Mae Fox. He is survived by his parents, grandmother, Gwen Wood, sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Dewayne Benavidez, a brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey and Misty Thompson, nieces, Brittny, Skyler, Maria, and Julia, nephews, Zane, Reed, Patrick, Taylor, and Savan.

Schmidt
Diane Frances Schmidt, 57, of Crosby, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 in Crosby after a tragic accident. She was born January 17, 1947 in New Jersey to parents George and Beatrice Davidson. Mrs. Schmidt had lived in Crosby for the past 28 years and was previously of Pasadena. Service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2004 at The Crosby Church in Crosby with Rev. Keenan Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Cemetery in Humble. L.G. Leonard Glen Moss, 75 of Liberty, died Monday, April 19, 2004 at his residence. Funeral services will be at 4pm, Thursday, April 22, 2004 at the Bethel Assembly of God Church. Interment will follow at Norris Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be from 5 pm until 8pm on Wednesday at Allison Funeral Service. Mr. Moss was born March 21, 1929 in Raywood to Leonard Isaac & Hazel Barrow Moss. He married Barbara Ann Davis on September 4, 1953 in Liberty. L.G. was a retired equipment foreman for Shell Oil. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church and enjoyed gardening and working with his cows. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Iris (Hopy) Emerson; grandchildren Brett Thomas & Sean Alan Campbell. He is survived by his wife Barbara Ann Moss; sons Ronald Glen (Luke) Moss, Alan Dale (Brownie) Moss & wife Becky, Nelson Lynn Moss; daughters Dana Lynette Campbell & husband Robert, Marilyn Denise Darbonne & husband Donny; grandchildren Chad Darbonne, Bart, Eric, Andrew, Jaclyn & Jared Moss; great grandchildren Krissy & Kirsten Moss; sisters Mavis Starling, Shirley White, Ann (Ginny) Street; brother Robert Lee Moss.
