Ontario D'mond was stillborn at 1:07 p.m. April 8 in Memorial Medical Center - Livingston. Survivors include his mother, Debore Jones of Livingston; father, John Michael Cooper of Seven Oaks; sister, Johnneccia Cooper of Seven Oaks; grandparents, Helen Cowling of Livingston, Robert and Janice Dosie of Doucette and John and Annie Cooper of Seven Oaks; great-grandparents, Helen Henderson of Livingston and Annie P. Juanita Kathryn Harrison
LIVINGSTON - Juanita Kathryn Harrison, 67, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at her residence in Livingston. Funeral services were held Monday, April 14, from Eylau Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dwight Lowery officiating. Burial followed in Eylau Cemetery in Eylau. She was born Sept. 1, 1935 in Texarkana, Texas, the daughter of Lois C. Howell and Kathryn Estelle Stroup Howell. She married George Clark Harrison on Nov. 17, 1955 in Stewart Heights Baptist Church in Baytown. Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Katelyn Shaffer; brothers, Billy Howell, Jackie Howell and Dennis Howell and sister, Betty Howell. Milton H. Barfield
LIVINGSTON - Funeral services for Milton H. Barfield, 82, of Livingston were held Sunday, April 13, 2003, from the First Baptist Church of Providence, with the Rev. Shane Norcross officiating. Burial followed in Peebles Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the VFW Post 8568 Honor Guard. Mr. Barfield died Friday, April 11, in Memorial Medical Center - Livingston. He was born June 25, 1920 in Leggett, the son of Hiram C. Barfield and Lizzie Mae Owsley Barfield. Mr. Barfield was a graduate of the University of Houston and acquired his CPA certificate. He married Catherine Barfield on June 21, 1958 in Houston. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Providence. He was known as someone who loved gardening and loved his Lord more than anything in life. He served in the Marines during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dee Barfield, Wallace Barfield, Hulon Barfield and Joe Ed Barfield and sister, Nellie Barfield. Ernest Delano Griswold Sr.
CLEVELAND - Ernest Delano Griswold Sr., a longtime resident of Livingston, died quietly in his residence in Cut & Shoot on Friday, April 11, 2003, succumbing to a two-year battle with cancer. He is survived by five children, Karen Griswold of Conroe, Kathy Whatley of Conroe, Ernest Griswold Jr. of Pearland, James Griswold of Conroe and Dale Griswold of Livingston; one brother, David Griswold of Houston; sister and brother-in-law, Janie and Hurchel Britton of Cut & Shoot; stepson, Joseph Eckels of Cut & Shoot; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Griswold; parents, Sherman and Pauline Griswold; brother, Cruse Griswold and mother and father-in-law, Leo and Werner Chandler. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 15, from the Pace-Stancil/Probst Chapel, with interment following in Evergreen Cemetery in Lovelady.

LIVINGSTON - A mass of Christian burial for Walter Raymond Miday, 77, was held Tuesday, April 15, 2003, from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Livingston, with Father Clifton Labbe officiating. Burial followed in Houston National Cemetery in Houston. A rosary was held Monday, April 14, at Cochran Funeral Home. Mr. Miday died Thursday, April 10, in the VA Hospital in Houston. He was born March 15, 1926 in Lewisville, Ohio, the son of Raymond and Serena Nofsinger Miday, both of whom preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Georgia Sue Coiro
LIVINGSTON - Georgia Sue Coiro, 70, of Leggett died Saturday, April 12, 2003, in a Lufkin hospital. Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 15, at the Coiro Family Cemetery. Mrs. Coiro was born Jan. 28, 1933 in Rockingham, N.C. to parents Oliver Gregory and Gedie Harkness Burns. She married Francis Coiro on March 19, 1953 in Birmingham, Ala. She had been a Polk County resident since 1966, moving from League City. She was a traditional Catholic and was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Dickinson. Survivors include her husband, Francis of Leggett; son, Oliver Coiro; four daughters, Rachel Nichols, Dorothy Mersinger, Christina Daniel and Nancy Irvine; brother, Garland Burns; 12 grandchildren, Holly Allred, Jennifer Nichols, Garrison Nichols, Robert Mersinger, Rebecca Mersinger, Christopher Coiro, Michael Coiro, Emily Coiro, Heather Daniel, Steven Daniel, Ariel Irvine and Miranda Daniel. LIVINGSTON - Funeral services for Eunice Tincy Early, 84, were held Thursday, April 17, 2003, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bruce Whitmire officiating. Mrs. Early died Sunday, April 13, at her residence in Shepherd. She was born Nov. 30, 1918 in Chillicothe, the daughter of Asa LeRoy Whitfield and Jessie May Bice Whitfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Sam Presley and E.B. Early; son, Rickey Early; brothers, Walter Whitfield and John D. Whitfield and sisters, Emma Presley and Laura Owens. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Whitmire of Shepherd; son, Donald Presley of Dallas; sister, Mary Bouldin of California; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Prentice Frank Thorne
LIVINGSTON - Graveside services for Prentice Frank Thorne, 67, were held Friday, April 18, 2003, from Concord Cemetery in Leon County, with the Rev. George Dodson officiating. Mr. Thorne died Wednesday, April 16, in Falls Community Hospital in Marlin. He was born Feb. 9, 1936 in Bangs, the son of N.E. and Annie May Munselle Thorne. He married Mary Catherin Thorne on Jan. 24, 1958 in Ft. Worth. Mr. Thorne served in the Marines during the Korean conflict, having attained the rank of corporal. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Everett Thorne and Nigel Thorne and sister, Pat Thorne. Fred Lee Aylor
LIVINGSTON - A service to celebrate the life of Fred Lee Aylor was held on Saturday, April 19, 2003, in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, with Dr. Don Willis officiating. Burial followed in Peebles Cemetery. Mr. Aylor, 93, died on Monday, April 14, in Presbyterian Village North in Dallas. He was the third child born to his parents, Fred Lee Aylor Sr. and Theresa Papst Aylor, in Orchard on Dec. 30, 1909. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lettie Peebles Aylor; sister, Bertha Aylor Newman; three brothers, Howard, Walter and Leslie Aylor and one great-grandchild, Anthony David Abrahamson. Mr. Aylor worked most of his life in the Geophysical Department of Continental Oil Company. He joined its second field crew in November 1932 and retired in September 1973. Lettie, Fred and Marilyn, their only child, traveled over many states, but, because Lettie was a native of Livingston, it was "home" to them. They bought land and built two houses on Calhoun Street in Livingston, living here from 1948 until 1956 and from 1973 until 1996 when he moved to Dallas to be near his immediately family. Mr. Aylor was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Livingston, serving as a greeter and usher, was a member of DMA and teacher of the Men's Bible Class for many years. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Aylor Hodge and George Lowrance Hodge of Dallas; one sister and brother, Marjorie Aylor Hayes of Alvin and Albert Aylor of Pasadena; grandchildren, Kathryn Hodge Abrahamson and husband William G. Abrahamson of Dallas, Julia Hodge Macduff and husband Gordon Scott Macduff of Dallas, Gerald Lee Hodge and wife Christy Logan Hodge of Olathe, Kan. and Rosemary Hodge Wakely and husband Adam Cullen Wakely of Carrollton; and six great-grandchildren, James, Brandon and Emma Abrahamson, Jared and Carolyn Mcduff and Logan Hodge. Pallbearers were William Abrahamson, Steven Eppes, Gerald Lee Hodge, Scott Mcduff, James Peebles and Adam Wakely.

Jesse Brown
LIVINGSTON - Graveside memorial services and ash burial for Jesse Brown, 78, of Weimar, formerly of Rye, will be held at 2 p.m. May 3, 2003, in Peebles Cemetery. Mr. Brown died April 15 at his residence in Weimar. He was born Oct. 20, 1924 in Blackfoot, the son of Joseph D. and Jettie M. Brown. He married Ruth Helen Nash on Oct. 3, 1942 in San Antonio. Mr. Brown was a paint contractor and a master Mason at South Houston Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years on Nov. 18, 1998. He was also preceded in death by one sister, two brothers and one grandson, Jesse Randal Schmitz. Survivors include his son, James M. Brown and wife Grace of Weimar; daughters, Patricia C. Brown and husband Mike of Weimar, Donna Taylor and husband Robert of Seguin and Juanell Schwarzkopf and husband Gary of Seguin; brothers, Bill Gage of California and Billy Brown of Strasburg, Va.; sister, Sue Huston of California; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and special friend, Midge Curtis. Andrew Fleming
CORRIGAN - Funeral services for Andrew Fleming, 78, of Houston were held Thursday, April 24, 2003, from the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. C.E. "Buddy" Hicks officiating. Interment followed in Friendship Cemetery in Corrigan. Mr. Fleming was born Aug. 25, 1924 in Rosebud and died Saturday, April 19, in a Houston hospital. He retired from Quamm-Teck Chemical Co. as a drafting engineer. He also was a member of Freeway Manor Baptist Church in Houston. His son, Thomas Fleming, and his parents, Thomas and Pauline Fleming, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Arlene Hooper Fleming of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Dewayne and Heather Fleming of Fort Polk, La.; daughter, Debbie Humphreys of Houston; grandchildren, Barbara Daniels and husband Shawn and Jessica, Samantha and Ashley Fleming; and sisters, Beverly Robinson of Humble, Kaye Baskett of Spring and Lorene Ratcliff of Spring. Arthur Bruce Battise
LIVINGSTON - Funeral services for Arthur Bruce Battise, 69, were held Saturday, April 26, 2003, from Indian Presbyterian Church in Polk County, with the Rev. Bill Heck and the Rev. Daniel Zarate officiating. Burial followed in the Indian Reservation Cemetery. Mr. Battise died Monday, April 21, in Park Plaza Hospital in Houston. He was born March 24, 1934 in Polk County, the son of Ed and Jonie Sylestine Battise. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Battise and sister, Juanita Battise. Survivors include his nieces, Rosie Battise of Wells, Susan Battise Rosilez of Houston and Opal Battise Espinoza of Houston; nephews, Revis Taylor Battise Jr. of Shawnee, Okla. and Michael Dean Battise of Houston and numerous other nieces and nephews. Shirley Ann Sylestine
LIVINGSTON - Shirley Ann Sylestine, 62, died on Sunday, April 20, 2003, in Polk County. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 23, from the First Texas Indian Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roy Jernigan officiating. Burial followed in the First Indian Texas Baptist Cemetery. She was born Dec. 7, 1940 in Livingston, the daughter of Eddie and Phoebie Jesse Celestine. She was a member of the First Texas Indian Baptist Church, the Coushatta Tribe of Elton, La. and Pineneedle Basket Weaving. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Kent Kane Sylestine Jr. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Sherald and Norma Sylestine of Flint; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Rodger Battise of the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation; brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Rose Celestine of Flagstaff, Ariz.; sister, Isabelle Robinson of Livingston; sister and brother-in-law, Elissia and Tom John of Livingston and seven grandchildren. Elvin Arthur Breazeale
LIVINGSTON - Graveside services for Elvin Arthur Breazeale, 81, were held Thursday, April 24, 2003, from Magnolia Cemetery in Onalaska. Military honors were provided by VFW Post 8568. Mr. Breazeale died Monday, April 21, at his residence in Livingston. He was born Oct. 14, 1921 in Slagel, La., the son of Arthur and Mary Della Thompson Breazeale, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Berniece Riley Breazeale on Jan. 10, 1985 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was employed by the Texas Highway Department for many years. Mr. Breazeale served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He enlisted on Nov. 2, 1942 and was discharged on May 15, 1943. Survivors include his wife, Berniece Breazeale of Livingston; daughters, Elva Ann Biggs of Texas City, Joyce Rasberry of Ft. Worth and Lillian Marie Seagroves of Littleton, Colo.; son, Michael Riley of Houston; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Cochran Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret "Maggie" Jacobs
LIVINGSTON - Funeral services for Margaret "Maggie" J. Peebles Jacobs, 94, of Livingston were held Wednesday, April 23, 2003, from the First United Methodist Church in Livingston, with the Rev. James Frazier, the Rev. Mary Shivers and Dr. Tom Kennedy officiating. Interment followed in Peebles Cemetery. Mrs. Jacobs died on Monday, April 21, at her residence in Livingston. She was born Nov. 24, 1908 in the Mt. Rose community, the second of eight children to parents John Alvin Peebles and Julia Carl James Peebles. She and Claudy E. Jacobs were married on Jan. 7, 1928. She attended Mt. Rose and Livingston schools, graduating in 1926. After attending Stephen F. Austin College, she taught school in the Mt. Rose, Providence and Bold Springs communities. As a school teacher, she touched many lives. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Christian Workers Class, the Polk County Garden Club and the DAR. She was president of the Polk County Garden Club from 1976 to 1978, when the club voted to restore and beautify the Old City Cemetery. She later served as chairperson of the project for several years. The project continues to this day. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claudy; her father, John Alvin Peebles; her mother, Julia Carl James Peebles; brother, Tony Peebles; sisters, Lettie Aylor and Lillian Haynes and nephews, David Peebles, Robert Monroe and Newman Haynes Jr. Survivors include her sisters, Love Monroe of Livingston, Carlene Sneed of Conroe and Patsy Eppes of Silsbee; brother and sister-in-law, James "Pete" and Dusty Peebles of Livingston; nieces, Alene Holder of Livingston, Donna Wiegraffe of Bridge City, Frances McAlister of Liberty, Marilyn Hodge of Dallas, Mary Climer of Liberty, Julia Ann Prachaska of Houston and Patricia Eppes of Silsbee; nephews, Billy Haynes of Livingston, Jimmy Monroe of Livingston, Richard Peebles of Baytown, Pat Peebles of Lake Jackson, Don Sneed Jr. of Conroe, Steve Eppes of Kountze and James M. Helga Stanley
LIVINGSTON - Helga Stanley, 67, of Onalaska died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in Lufkin. Services were held Friday, April 25, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Livingston, with Pastor Vic Winkelman officiating. Interment followed in Restland Memorial Park. Mrs. Stanley was born on Jan. 14, 1936 in Schwenfurt, Germany to parents Erich and Ilse Kleinhenz Probst. She had been an Onalaska resident for over 30 years, moving from Pasadena, and was a cook at Stubby's in Onalaska. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Livingston. She is survived by her husband, Sam, of Onalaska; son, Pete Stanley and wife Ann of Onalaska; mother, Ilse Probst of Euerbach, Germany; brother, Guinter Probst and wife Traudl; sisters, Margot Hepnew and husband Buddy and Brigitte Doehling and husband Wayne; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three step-great-grandchildren; two nieces and five nephews. LIVINGSTON - Funeral services for Pauline Forehand Bell, 87, were held Thursday, April 24, 2003, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Joel Salazar and Bro. Randal Whitt officiating. Burial followed in Restland Memorial Park. Mrs. Bell died Tuesday, April 22, in Livingston. She was born Jan. 7, 1916 in Goldthwaite, the daughter of Blake and Myrtle Karnes Forehand. She married Frank Lee Bell on Jan. 8, 1941 in Galveston. Mrs. Bell was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Nettie Cochran Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents; son, Richard Lee Bell; grandson, Vann Cherry and brothers, Jessie Forehand, Forrest Forehand and Karnes Forehand. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Leatha Nan and Barney Hollingshead of Livingston; sister, Aggie Kenny of The Woodlands; grandchildren, Paula and Gary Smith, Guy and Charlotte Cherry, Diana Cherry, Jack and LaVonna Thomas, Leatha and Clint Greenwood, Richard Lee Bell Jr., Shawn and Bobbie Jo Bell, Karen and Keith Needham and Kathy and Clayton Blank; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gene Hubbert
SAN SABA - Gene Hubbert, 90, of New Braunfels, formerly of Goodrich, died on Monday, April 21, 2003, in New Braunfels. He was born Sept. 29, 1912 in San Saba, the son of Edgar Hubbert and Elizabeth Flood Hubbert. On Aug. 20, 1942 he married Laura Kincaid in California. She preceded him in death in August 1974. On Feb. 4, 1975, he married Lora G. Hartgraves, who preceded him in death on July 26, 2001. Mr. Hubbert was a draftsman in the oil industry and a member of the congregation of the Methodist Church. He is survived by three daughters, Jo Ellen Bresenhan and husband Pat of Canyon Lake, Melba Burton and husband Ernie of Spring and Eunice Satterfield and husband Glyn of La Feria; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Murray J. Hubbert and wife Lois of San Saba and son-in-law, John Pagel and wife Elva of Spring. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; one daughter, Margaret Pagel and three brothers. Graveside services were held Thursday, April 24, from San Saba City Cemetery, with the Rev. Judy Fitzgerald officiating. Interment followed in San Saba City Cemetery. Howell-Doran Funeral Home in San Saba was in charge of arrangements.

LIVINGSTON - Funeral services for Kenneth Edward Rawlins, 33, were held Thursday, April 24, 2003, from the First United Methodist Church in Livingston, with the Rev. Mary Shivers, Dr. Don Willis and the Rev. James Frazier officiating. Burial followed in Forest Hill Cemetery. Mr. Rawlins died Monday, April 21, in Memorial Health System of East Texas. He was born Nov. 9, 1969 in Houston, the son of Michael and Patricia Gardner Rawlins. He graduated from McArthur High School in Irving and attended North Lake Junior College and the State Police Academy. He married Monica Michelle Rawlins on Feb. 20, 1993 in Irving. Mr. Rawlins was fire chief for the Indian Springs VFD and worked for Gold Star EMS. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Edward Rawlins. Survivors include his wife, Monica Rawlins of Livingston; mother, Patricia Faye Gardner Short of Coppell; son, Riley E. Rawlins of Livingston; daughter, Gillian L. Rawlins of Livingston; stepfather, Grant Short of Coppell; grandmother, Faye Gardner of Livingston; grandfather, S.C. Gardner of Livingston; sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Wes Brown of Irving; stepsisters, Rachel Short and Jessica Short, both of Coppell; uncles, Bob Gardner of Pasadena and Perry Gardner of Atascocita; nephew, Forest Brown of Irving; niece, Madison Brown of Irving and a host of other family and friends. Pallbearers were Andy Evans, Rusty Evans, Ricky Taylor, Hayden Ray, Gabe Guerra, Jeff Grubbs, Steve Smith, Charlotte Warner, Wes Brown, David Hill, Marty Lusczki, Jerry Lusczki, Steve Culli, Kalvin Lowery, Stan Hendrick and Carl Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Gold Star EMS, area firefighters, the Indian Springs VFD, and area EMS, law enforcement and first responders. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Indian Springs VFD or the charity of choice. Cochran Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
