Friday July 29 John C. Anderson Buried Yesterday John C. Anderson, aged 78, pioneer resident of Dallas and father of W. B. Anderson of Arlington, died at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. W. Coombes, in Fort Worth after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Anderson is well known here through his visits with his son. He had been in the leather and harness business in Dallas for 50 years. Funeral services were conducted at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Coombes with Rev. M. M. Chunn, assisted by Rev. George E. Nies, officiating. Another service was held at 4 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Dallas. Burial was in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. Survivors are his widow, two sons, four daughters and six grandchildren. Friday July 29 John Noel Former Resident Fatally Hurt John Noel, former Arlington resident, died last Saturday night in a Fort Worth hospital after he was injured in an automobile accident Saturday morning. Rev. James Morgan officiated at the funeral here Monday afternoon in the Baptist Church. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. He is survived by two daughters, residents of Fort Worth. Mr. Noel lived in Handley for a number of years but had been staying with a daughter in Fort Worth recently. Moore Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Friday July 29 Buford Owens Dies Suddenly Buford Owens, age 37, lifelong resident of Arlington, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning in a Fort Worth hospital. Mr. Owens, whose death is a shock to his many friends in Arlington, started in the grocery business years ago with the C. W. McKnight Company. He then went to Fort Worth as head of the meat department for the Worth Food Markets and Frank William's stores. He had been manager of Luttrell's meat department since the first of this year. Funeral services were conducted Wed. afternoon at the Baptist Church with Rev. Kermit Melugin, Rev. S. M. Bennett and Rev. T. G. Mayo officiating. Burial was in Arlington Cemetery. Survivors are his wife and son, James Howard Owens; a sister, Mrs. Allen Potts; mother, Mrs. George Mahurin; stepfather, Geo. Mahurin; three half sisters, Mrs. Paul Opitz, Mrs. Cranford Bussey, Mrs. Ira Young; and a half brother, M. C. Mahurin. Pallbearers were Fred Luttrell, Hermon Noah, Allen Potts, Ira Young, Paul Optiz and Cranford Bussey. Luttrell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Friday July 29 Mrs. Minnie Felton Succumbs Mrs. Minnie V. Felton, 62, of Handley, died Sunday morning in a Fort Worth Hospital after a short illness. She is well known in Arlington. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. N. L. Linebaugh Monday morning at the Handley Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters and one son. Burial was in Indian Creek Cemetery in Leanord, Texas, with Moore Funeral Home in charge. Friday July 29 MRS. ENGLAND'S FATHER DIES Mrs. J. England's father, Mr. Griffen of Dallas, passed away recently. He was 90 years of age. He has many friends in Arlington. Friday July 29 W. A. Fonville Dies At Masonic Home W. A. Fonville, 71, a resident of the Arlington Masonic Home for the past six years, was buried at 10 a.m., Tuesday from the Masonic Chapel. Rev. Kermit Melugin officiated at the funeral services. Burial was in Key Stone Cemetery with Moore Funeral Home in charge. Friday July 29 EULESS NEWS Mrs. Jessie Cannon Mr. and Mrs. Wib. Wiser and family went to Houston last week to attend the funeral of their oldest son, Mr. Walter Wiser. Walter is well known here and everybody joins the family in their grief. Friday August 5 GRACE CHAPEL Elizabeth Thomas One of the twin daughters born to Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Curry Saturday night, July 23, in a Dallas hospital died last Monday. Burial was in the Grand Prairie Cemetery. Friday August 5 SATIRE Short time after a Tarrant county girl had reached college and joined a sorority, she changed her name from Jessie to Jessica and signed her letters back home that way. Her brother didn't like it. He replied, "Dear Jessica: Dadica and Momica have gone to visit Aunt Lizzica. Uncle Samica is buying a new machine, but doesn't know whether to get a Chevica or a Fordica. The cowica had a calfica, and I was going to call it Nellica but changed it to Jimica because it was a bullica. Your loving brother, Tomica." Friday August 12 SUBLETT Annie Leath The people of this community were sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Jack Duvall of the Webb community. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. J. M. Price at the Webb Baptist Church with the burial in the Rehoboth Cemetery. Friday August 12 J. D. Jones Dies After Years Illness J. D. Jones, 43, died at his home here early Sunday morning after a year's illness. Survivors are his wife and one daughter, one brother and one sister, all out of town residents. Funeral services were conducted at 9 a.m. Monday morning at Moore Funeral Home with J. Earl Mead of the Cliff Temple Baptist church of Dallas officiating. Burial was in Glen Cole, near Coleman. Friday August 12 PANTEGO Mrs. C. P. Sebastian We extend our sympathy to Mrs. J. D. Jones in her recent bereavement. Mr. Jones had been ill for quite awhile. He passed away at his home Sunday morning at 1 o'clock. His body was taken to Coleman for burial Monday. Friday August 12 S. F. Hester Of Handley Dies Samuel Franklin Hester, 75, of Handley died last Friday morning after a long illness in Fort Worth. He is survived by four sons and one daughter. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. O. L. Cox, in Burnett, Texas. Burial was in Burnett Cemetery. Moore Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Friday August 12 Mrs. Laura Emerson Succumbs Mrs. Laura Emerson, 81, a resident of Tarrant County since 1919, died at 7 p.m. Monday at the home of her niece, Mrs. Tom Ditto. A head injury received April 12 when she fell down a short flight of stairs at the First Baptist Church in Fort Worth, where she had sold Bibles for many years, contributed to her death. She was brought to Mrs. Ditto's home after spending 16 days at a hospital after the accident which made her an invalid. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Gilbert Wilson at the First Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Mrs. Emerson is survived by two other nieces, Mrs. W. P. Wheeler and Miss Kathleen Morgan, both of Fort Worth. Pallbearers were Ray Rankin, A. J. Powell, Floy West, A. A. Jackson, Earl Boswell and Alvin Ware. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Luttrell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Friday August 19 Mrs. J. A. Elder's Uncle Dies In Tulsa, Oklahoma H. L. Hensel, uncle of Mrs. J. A. Elder, died suddenly Wednesday morning from a heart attack at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. Hensel was here in July for the wedding of Mrs. Elder's daughter, Margaret. Mrs. C. C. West of Alvarado who is Mrs. Elder's mother and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pross, Mrs. Paul Matthews and Harvey Hensel, all of Austin, stopped at Mrs. Elders Wednesday night while enroute to Oklahoma to attend the funeral. Friday August 19 Services Held For Mrs. Lizan Bridges Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Moore Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Lizan Bridges, 65, who died Thursday night after a three year illness at the home of her son, Sam Bridges. Rev. J. W. Ward of Grand Prairie officiated and burial was in Ishom Cemetery. She is survived by 4 sons, 8 daughters, 46 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The sons who live here are Sam, William Henry and O. T. Bridges. Daughters living here are Mrs. M. C. Feflin, Mrs. W. T. Geer, Mrs. B. F. Powers, Mrs. G. E. Chaddick and Miss Lora Bridges. Friday August 19 Mrs. Mollie Harlon's Mother Dies Mrs. Lula Dabson, mother of Mrs. Mollie Harlon who lives north of town, died at the home of another daughter in Fort Worth Thursday night. Mrs. Dabson was 75 and had been ill only a short while. She is survived by one son and four daughters. Funeral services were held Friday at 4 p.m. at the Moore Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Patterson officiating. Burial was in the Parkdale Cemetery. Friday August 19 MRS. DUCKETT'S BROTHER DIES Mrs. J. O. Duckett's only brother, Paul M. Robertson of Princeton, Alabama, died Wednesday of last week. Mr. Robertson had been seriously ill for two weeks. Mrs. Duckett was unable to make the trip. Mr. Robertson had visited here many times and made friends here. Friday August 19 Mrs. Sallie Peterson Dies At Masonic Home Mrs. Sallie Peterson, resident of the Masonic Home, died suddenly Thursday night. Mrs. Peterson was 77 and came to the home seven years ago from McGregor. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at McGregor. Moore Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Friday August 19 Former Arlington Resident Dies William Albert Keathley, former Arlington resident, died Wednesday morning in a Fort Worth hospital. Mr. Keathley was 62 and had been ill a short while. Survivors are one brother and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Moore Funeral Chapel with Rev. John H. Patterson officiating. Burial was in the Arlington Cemetery. Friday August 26 Services Held For George Wingert George Wingert, 65, died at the Masonic Home Tuesday night. He came to the home 8 years ago from the Waco Lodge. Funeral services were held at the Masonic Chapel Thursday morning at 9:30 o'clock with Rev. John H. Patterson officiating. Burial was in the Keystone Cemetery with Moore Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Friday August 26 Mrs. Metcalf Dies At Handley Mrs. A. E. Metcalf, 89, died at her home in Handley Monday night after a two weeks illness. She had lived in Tarrant County for 30 years. She is survived by 4 sons, 6 daughters, 30 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Moore Funeral Chapel in Handley. Burial was in the West Oakwood Cemetery in Fort Worth. Friday August 26 JOHNSON STATION Mrs. Tyler Short Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Waller attended the funeral of Mrs. J. B. Cotton of Itasca Monday. Mrs. Cotton is the grandmother of Bobby Nell and Theis Thompson. Friday September 2 Services Held For W. H. Bates Funeral services for W. H. Bates, 56, of Handley were held at the Moore Funeral Chapel in Handley Thursday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Alca Miller, pastor of the Handley Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in the Arlington Cemetery. Mr. Bates was a retired cabinet maker. He died suddenly Wednesday morning with a heart attack. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and four sisters. Friday September 2 Mrs. Sallie Hayter Harrison Is Buried On last Saturday afternoon Mrs. Sallie Hayter Harrison of Dallas passed out "beyond the horizon", after an illness that resulted in more than ten years of complete invalidism. Funeral services were held at Dallas and interment was in the Arlington cemetery, where her husband, J. B. Harrison and small son, Donald, are buried. Mrs. Harrison was the youngest child of the late Rev. A. B. and Maria Hayter, and was born on the Hayter farm, now owned by the Waggoner interests. She received her education in the Mansfield College, under the late John Collier, and chose as her work one of the very few lines open to women at that time-music. She taught both piano and the stringed instruments in Arlington for many years. After marrying Jones B. Harrison who was at that time in the hardware business here, they moved to Afton, Oklahoma, where they lived for a number of years, and then moved to Waxahachie, and finally to Dallas. After her husband's death she continued to make her home with her son, Charlie, until less than a year ago when for her comfort she was put in a nursing home. Mrs. Harrison, wherever she lived was always active in the cultural life of the community, her sweet, gentle radiance gained for her the love and admiration of her associates. The comment of some of the business men of our town whose lives were touched by hers in their early years were "I have never known such a sweet, lovely person as Miss Sallie Hayter." Her three boys were a joy to her throughout the years and their training and education was of paramount importance to her. She is survived by her three sons, all of whom were here for the funeral. Charlie of Dallas; Kenneth of Big Springs and Shannon of Lafayette, La. Friday September 2 PANTEGO Mrs. C. P. Sebastian Mr. and Mrs. Jim Webb, Mrs. Bill Poland, Paul Jeringaer and Mrs. Arthur Fuller attended the funeral of Mrs. Kelley, mother of Mrs. Ray Fuller who died at her home in Slidell last Thursday. Misses Oneida Sweaney and Mildred Webb sang several favorite songs of the deceased. We extend our sympathy to Mrs. Fuller and family. Friday September 2 Services Held For Former Resident Miss Tommie Shofner, 43, died at the home of her brother, Paul Shofner in Paris, Texas, Monday night. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Handley Methodist Church with Rev. L. N. Linebaugh officiating. Miss Shofner is a former resident of Arlington and Handley. She is survived by her mother, five sisters and two brothers. Moore Funeral Home in charge. Friday September 2 Mrs. Sallie Vann Visits Here Mrs. Sallie Vann of San Antonio is on her annual visit here being the guest of Mrs. Mat Barnes. Mrs. Vann is a member of that old tribe of Texans who are rapidly passing, she came here during the Ox Wagon days. Her father was the first Station Agent for the T & P Railway at this place. Her old friends remember her as Sallie Goldring. Friday September 2 Mrs. Tuttle Dies At Masonic Home Mrs. W. H. Tuttle, resident of the Masonic Home for 8 years, died Saturday night. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Rev. W. H. Cole officiated at the services and burial was in Keystone Cemetery. Moore Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Friday September 2 Mrs. J. H. Purvis' Brother Dies Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Purvis returned this week from Lufkin where they attended the funeral of Mrs. Purvis' brother, W. M. Gibbs. Friday September 2 Mrs. Emma Wheeler's Mother Dies Funeral services were held Monday at 3 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Katherine Dankelf, mother of Mrs. Emma Wheeler, with Rev. J. H. Patterson and Dr. S. M. Bennett officiating. (Mrs. Dankelf) was 80 years old and died Sunday at her daughters home. About nine months ago (Mrs. Dankelf) fell and had not been able to be up since. She was born in Switzerland. She lived in Fort Worth for many years and came to Arlington some 10 years ago to make her home with her daughter Mrs. Emma Wheeler. (Mrs. Dankelf) lived quietly within the domain of her own home. She appreciated company and was always full of gratitude for the nice things done for her by friends. Both of the preachers conducting the funeral services, paid high tribute to Mrs. Wheeler for the consistent attention and care she had given her mother throughout her illness. Other survivors are a brother, John Habluetzel Sr., Galveston; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Wolf, Galveston, and Mrs. M. Schwatner and Miss Anna Zulk, both of California, three grandchildren, Marvin Wheeler, Fort Worth, Olen Wheeler, Arlington, and Mrs. Sophronia Wymer, Pawtucket, R. I., and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jess Wheeler, Don Yankee and Johnnie Lubke. Burial was in the Ishom Cemetery. Luttrell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Friday September 2 John Habluetzel Sr., Mrs. E. E. Zuespann and two daughters and Alfred Habluetzel Jr., have been guests of Mrs. Henry Wheeler this past week. Mr. John Habluetzel is the brother of Mrs. Kate Danklefs, and they came for her funeral. |
