Bettie Lee Barnes, age 67 of Port O’Connor, TX, passed away on December 26, 2002. Betty McCrary, age 74 of Waller, passed away on December 15, 2002 after a long struggle with Wegnerer Disease. Mrs. McCrary taught in Galena Park School District from 1955 to 1959 and then taught at CyFair High School from 1959 to 1984 where She was a Business Teacher and became a Licensed Professional Senior Counselor. She was a member of AARP, founding member of Waller Lioness Club, Waller County Historical Society, Daughter of The Republic of Texas New Kentucky Chapter, and Waller United Methodist Church. Mrs. McCrary is survived by her husband John H. McCrary; daughter Barbara Koonce and husband Kenneth; brother James Leroy Clifford and wife Alice; sister Florence Christiansen; granddaughter Sarah Koonce, grandson Alan Koonce; numerous nieces and nephews. Frances Darlene McFarland, age 68 of Hempstead, passed away on December 12, 2002. GARRETT
William Frank Garrett left this earth to go to his Heavenly home on Saturday, December 7, 2002. Born prematurely on June 26, 1938, on his family’s farm in Hempstead, he was 64 at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Clara Marie Garrett. He left his wife of 40 years, Janet; two daughters, Nannette R. Williams of Zavalla, Texas, and husband Robert, and Jennifer K. Hancock of Amarillo and husband Keith; three grandchildren, Tiffany Williams, Kristian Williams and Garrett Hancock; two sisters, two brothers; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and friends to mourn. An avid outdoorsman, Bill loved to hunt and fish. He was a proud American and served in the U.S. Army. To pass his love of country to his family, they visited all the 48 contiguous states during annual summer vacations. He attended the University of Texas and worked as a civil structural engineer until retiring in 1986. Services were held on Tuesday December 10, 2002 at Canon Funeral Home in Waller. Pastors Jonathan McCullough and Mike Garrett officiated. Interment followed at Shiloh Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Bill Garrett Memorial Fund at Allied Bank P.O. Box 2968 Houston, Texas 77252-2968.

Mary Carlisle, age 78 of Hempstead, passed away on December 2, 2002. Mrs. Carlisle is survived by her sons, Ronald Carlisle and wife Linda, Tim Carlisle and wife Linda, and Lee Havard; daughter, Marylin England; 4 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. Donnie Mae Englishbee, age 66 of La Grange, passed away on November 13, 2002. Ms. Englishbee is survived by her brothers, Charles Englishbee, James Englishbee and wife Polly, Thomas Englishbee and wife Nina, and Virgil Englishbee and wife Beverly; and best friend, Barbara Hughes. McCAIG
David Eugene "Gene" McCaig was born February 5, 1931 in Madison County, Texas, the fifth of six children to A. B. and Donie Williams McCaig. He died November 13, 2002 in Cypress, Texas with family members in attendance. The McCaig family moved to Hockley in 1940, and Gene lived his life in the Hockley/Waller area, graduating from Waller High School. He farmed with his father in the Hockley area for several years, later operating a business in Waller. Gene retired from Tennwood Country Club. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Marlin, William and Donald, and his wife, Lois. He is survived by A. M. and Nina Lou McCaig; Opal and Roy Kruft, all of Waller; Theresa Helfrich McCaig of Ganado, and a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday morning, November 16, at Canon Funeral Home in Waller, with a private burial and Rite of Committal by the Reverend James M. Burkart of St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church, Hempstead, Texas. Visitation 10:00am Friday prior to service.

KULHANEK
Maxie George Kulhanek, 76, passed away on November 10, 2002. He was born on March 22, 1926, in Waller, Texas to Jerry and Mary Kulhanek. A life-long resident of Waller, Maxie was a farmer and rancher for many years. In 1993, he retired as sergeant from the Houston Police Department with 31 years of service. He held the position of Alderman in the City of Waller Council for 32 years. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Columbia. Maxie is survived by his wife, Louise, having recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. He is also survived by three sons: Maxie Jr., Charles and daughter-in-law, Ann, and Joe Kulhanek; four grandchildren: Meghan, Christian, Kyle, and Chandler Kulhanek; sister and brother-in-law: Margie and W.E. Able, Jr.; brother and sister-in-law: Carl and Judy Kulhanek; and a number of relatives and friends. The family will be present for visitation on Tuesday, November 12th from 5 – 8pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel. Shirley Elizabeth Hedrick age 46 of Waller passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Breast Cancer on Monday Nov. 4, 2002. Shirley is survived by her parents, W.D. Mary Jane Sias Gready, 90 of Hockley, Texas, died Friday, October 11, 2002. Mary Jane was born on April 30, 1912 in Galveston, Texas, and was the daughter of Adine and Robert Sias. She was a world traveler and particularly enjoyed Europe and the Orient. She volunteered for the Children’s Clinic at UTMB, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Methodist Women and the Rosebud Garden Club of Houston. Her hobbies included fishing, sewing, gardening and golf. She was a member of the Macedonia United Methodist Church in Hockley, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother Robert Sias, Jr. She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Dr. Thomas G. KENDALL
Lois Wright Kendall died Monday, September 16, 2002. She was 94. She was born August 7, 1908 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The daughter of a Baptist minister, she graduated from Baylor University in 1930. She came to Houston in 1931 when she married William Rives Kendall. They were married October 6, 1931 in Paris, Texas. They made their home in Houston, where they reared two sons. William died August 10, 2001. William and Lois Kendall were for many years active members of South Main Baptist Church. Lois is survived by sons Neal M. Kendall and his wife, Shirley of San Diego, California and Richard L. Kendall and his wife, Jean of Pearland, TX; grandchildren, Dr. Lori Kendall and her husband, Dr. Jerry McDonough of Ossining, New York, Toni Kendall Hatch and her husband, Keith and daughter Katherine of Ridgefield, Washington, Aaron Kendall of San Diego, California, and his fiancée Andrea Spilholtz of Los Angeles, California, Dr. Peggy Kendall and her husband Jonathan Sheehan and daughter Valerie of Nashville, Tennessee, and Susan Kendall Morrow and daughters Madeline and Camille of Austin; Margaret Kendall, mother of Peggy Kendall and Susan Morrow; step-grandchildren, Susan Rowan, Fran Walter and husband Eric and Blake Mosher and wife Melanie; step great grandchildren, Leigh and Chase Rowan, Ed, Ethan and Allison Walter and Elaina and Courtney Mosher; nephew Robert M. Milstead and his wife Peggy and family; niece June Harris and family; and extended family Gilda Brice and her daughter, Claudia Brice and family. A kind, loving and generous wife, mother, and grandmother, she is also survived by a host of friends. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30am, Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Westmoreland Chapel of South Main Baptist Church, 4100 Main. Roy Lee Laxton, age 68 of Waller, passed away on September 8, 2002. Mr. Laxton is survived by his mother, Leola Raley; wife, Sandra Laxton; sons, Greg Laxton and wife Stephanie, Steve Laxton and wife Kristi, and Harold Gum and wife Tammy; daughters, Cynthia Haynie and husband Anthony, Cynthia Smith and husband Alton, Monie Vavaroutsos and husband Lewis, Shawn Baker and husband Rob; brothers, Marlin Laxton, Calvin Laxton, and Alvin Laxton; sisters, Helene Jancik, and Betty Laxton; sixteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Canon Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at 10:00am. Velda Fae Watson, age 75 of Hempstead, passed away on September 5, 2002 from complications of Diabetes. Born Velda Fae Lloyd in White Rock, Texas, near Bremond, she was retired from Weingarten’s in Houston and worked at Triple A Restaurant. WHITE
William B. White, age 15, of Waller passed away Saturday Aug. 31, 2002 in Eagle Lake, Texas. William is survived by his parents, Leo and Jackie White; brother, Christopher Michael White; sisters, Cassie Marie White and Brittney Virginia Sue White; and grandparents, Sue "Granny Sue" Baggett and Donnie Baggett. STEPHENSON
Robert Gardner Stephenson, Sr., 87, passed peacefully into God’s hands at 2:10 A.M. on Friday, August 30, 2002. "Bob" Stephenson was born in Chicago, IL on June 18, 1915. His family moved to La Feria, Texas when he was nine years old, and Bob considered himself a Texan. Bob Sr. was a World War II veteran and active in the Boy Scouts of America from 1930 until the late 1950’s when Oakwood Methodist Church erected the "Bob Stephenson Scout Hut" in his honor. Working in radio broadcasting from the early 1940’s at KXYZ, Bob Sr. expanded his career into television at KTRK. Promoter Paul Boesch asked Bob Sr. to serve as the ring announcer for Houston Wrestling, which he did for many years. Judge Roy Hofheinz selected Bob to be the ring announcer for the Joe Frazier vs. Cassius Clay world championship boxing match, which was broadcast worldwide on one of the earliest satellite systems. In 1968 Bob Sr. started the "Bob Stephenson Outdoor Show" on KXYZ radio, ending each program with his signature sign-off "Have Fun Outdoors!" Changing radio stations as the times dictated, and partnering with his son Bob Jr., the "Bob Stephenson Outdoor Show" became the longest running sports show in the United States. Over the years, Bob Sr. received honors and awards from many organizations for his contribution to the quality of life and safety of citizens on the Texas Gulf Coast. Among the organizations are: The United States Coast Guard; The National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation; The American Anglers Association; The Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce; Saltwater Anglers League of Texas; Harris County Youth Village; Baytown Fish-N-Fest; and the Rockport Chamber of Commerce. The Texas Outdoor Writer’s Association voted Bob Sr. their greatest honor, the L.A. Wilke Award of Excellence, for his lifetime contribution to outdoor writing. Preceded in death by his son, Bob Jr., he is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 66 years, daughter Carole, son Roy and wife Sheryl, and daughter-in-law Melba. Grandchildren: Rick Galbreath, Pam Marvin and husband Paul, Shelley Osborn, Kelly Buckland and husband Craig, Christian Imhoff and husband Tommy, Dana Mask and husband Justin, and Amy and Sarah Stephenson. Great-grandchildren: Samantha and Sean Osborn, Leigh, Mary and Thomas Marvin, Savannah Buckland and Olivia Imhoff. The Bob Stephenson Sr. memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Hempstead, Texas at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 3, 2002.

Imogene Hamilton, age 74 of Houston, passed away on August 29, 2002. Ms. Hamilton is survived by her son, Billy Hamilton and wife Donna; daughters, Lucinda Hamilton, Judy Warfield and husband John, and Leslie Rankin and husband James; and six grandchildren. Barbara Ann Snow Stanford passed from this life on August 25, 2002 in Mt. Enterprise, TX. Barbara was born March 11, 1938 in Houston, TX, the daughter of Annie Snow and the late Robert Clayton Snow. She married her high school sweetheart, Quinn Ray Stanford, and had 46 years of happiness. From that union, 3 children were born, Rick Anson (wife, Mary Lou), Clayton Ray (wife, Sharon Fay), and Kathy Renee (husband, Richard Lai). Barbara was blessed with an abundance of loyal and dedicated friends.
