Mrs. Eva Lois Webb
Mrs. Eva Lois Webb departed this life March 14, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas at the age of 61. She was born to the late Tommie Pipkin and Marie Riley on July 12, 1941 in Tenaha, Texas. She graduated salutatorian from Booker T. Washington High School in Tenaha, Texas. Eva went on to cosmetology school in Marshall, Texas, where she obtained a license and became a salon owner and operator. In 1975, she graduated from the LVN program at Blinn College and pursued her career in nursing until her demise. She leaves to cherish her memories, her grandmother, Effie James of Longview, Texas; four daughters, LaTreace Lewis of Bryan, Zelda and Willie Moore of Independence, Denise Lane of Bryan and Etta and John Callier of Bryan; two sons, Everett and Dorthy Webb of Brenham and Ernest Webb of Bryan; two sisters, Tommie Joyce and Lonnie Chapel of Houston and Bettie and Mahendra Chaudhary of Austin; three brothers, Richard and Beverly Riley, Lloyd Riley and Melvin and Mary Riley of Houston; 15 grandchildren, Eric, Lashanda, Terrence, Falon, Brandon, D'Anthony (chesseball), Kerbi, Knendi, Everett Jr., Enesia, Neisha, Jasmine, Jerraldon, Ronnie and John; and six great-grandchildren, Tamara, T'mauria, Joshua, Erica, Tyree and Tamaya. Services will be held at Galilee Baptist Church, 804 North Logan in Bryan Wednesday, March 19 at 11 a.m.

Viola G. Woods
Funeral services for Viola G. Woods, 90, of Lyons are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003 from Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville with the Rev. Virgil Pecht officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today until 9 p.m., from 8:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2003, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Woods died Monday, March 17, 2003 at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.

Manervia Baker Madison
Funeral services for Manervia Baker Madison will be held Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Mt. Zion AME Church in Washington, Texas, with the Rev. Prudie V. Milam officiating. Visitation and viewing will be Friday, March 21 from 6-9 p.m. at the church. Manervia Baker Madison was born Sept. 2, 1899 to Jack and Jane (Doll) Felder Baker in Grimes County and grew up in rural Washington County in an era when segregation and undeveloped cities before electricity and many model inventions. Through the 1800s, 1900s and into the 2000s, Manervia had a heart of gold, a ministry of helps and intercessor for her family. She was educated in the Brown College School in Washington, Texas and attended the Adult Night School in Washington, Texas. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age in the Paul Felder African Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington, Texas and later joined the Mt. Zion AME Church in Washington, Texas. She passed away March 15, 2003 in Washington, Texas. She was married to Allen Madison; no children were born to this union. Her husband preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories, two sons (children of her sister), Eddie Lee Williams and Roosevelt Williams Sr. of Houston; a devoted niece, Mrs. Ruby Mae Brooks of Washington; and a devoted great-niece, the Rev. Prudie V. Milam of Washington; the Rev. Earl Valentine Jr. (Cheryl) of Hempstead, Texas; Andrew Baker (Annie Lee) of Washington; Mack Baker (Erma G.) of Baytown; Bessie Mae Finley of Houston; and Marjorie Nell Faircloth Baker of Washington. She leaves to cherish her Centenarian memories a host of other great nieces and nephews and four generations of great-great-great-great-nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her mother, father and all of her eight siblings preceded her in death. Interment will be in the Paul Felder AME Church Cemetery. Final arrangements are in the care of Roberson Mortuary of Giddings, Texas.

Gertrude Springer Bilski
Gertrude Springer Bilski, 74, of Chappell Hill, Texas, died March 24, 2003 in Colonial Belle Nursing Home in Sealy, Texas. Mrs. Bilski was born Jan. 2, 1929 in Chappell Hill, Texas to Henry and Sophie Lewandowski Springer. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill. On April 5, 1995 she married Victor Bilski in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill. Mrs. Bilski was a homemaker, and in her younger years, she worked for National Biscuit Co. in Houston. Mrs. Bilski was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, where she was a member of the choir and the Altar Society. Survivors include her husband, Victor Bilski of Chappell Hill; sisters and brothers-in-law, Monica and Chester Lucherk of Burton, Dorothy and Roy Matthews of Houston and Stephanie and Kenneth Middleton of Houston; mother-in-law, Mary Bilski of Chappell Hill; brothers-in-law, Brosie Kimich of Waller and Rufus Cone of Chappell Hill; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Florian and Ann Bilski of Brenham; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bibiann and Robert Konieczny of Sealy, Albina and Andrew Macejewski of Houston and Mary and Woodrow Wilson Pool of Beaumont; and a large number of nieces and nephews, all of whom were special to her. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Mary Cone, Theresa Kimich, Clara Cone, Martina Springer; and brother-in-law, Frank Cone. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 28 in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill with Father Eugene Shepard, celebrant. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Rosary, led by the Altar Society, will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Memorial Oaks Chapel. The parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Ann Elizabeth Nite Hohman
Ann Elizabeth Nite Hohman was born Sept. 6, 1920 near Winchester, Fayette County, Texas. She was the youngest of nine children born to Edward Henry and Annie Richardson Nite. She joined the Methodist church at Muldoon, Texas, as a young teenager, and graduated from Flatonia High School in 1938. She attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos and received a bachelor of science in 1945 and master's degree in 1956. Ann moved to Dripping Springs in 1943 as an elementary school teacher where she taught for 35 years. Prior to Dripping Springs she had taught two years. She retired in 1981 and then tutored children for several years and served as a school board member 1981-1982. On Dec. 27, 1944 she and Benjamin Alfard Hohman were united in marriage. They had two children, Alfard Nite (Al) and Charlotte Ann. Ann was an active member of the Dripping Springs First United Methodist Church, having served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent, member of Council on Ministries, financial committee, lay leader, financial secretary, choir member, mission coordinator, president of United Methodist Women and Ad. Council. In her early teaching years she was president of the PTA and remained an active member during her teaching career. After retirement she became involved with Hill County Care Nursing Home, serving on the board of directors for many years. She has served as president of the Hill Country Care Bluebonnet Auxiliary for several years and also served on the Helping Hands board. Ann is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Alfard; daughter and son-in–law, Charlotte and Paul LaRoche III of Brenham; grandchildren, Ben Wagner and wife Misti of Weimer, Cole Wagner of College Station, Rocky LaRoche of Brenham and Lauren LaRoche of Ithaca, NY; sister, Sue Raguzin; brothers-in–law, Adam Krieger and R.L. Jack Hohman and wife Merle; sister-in-law, Emma Lindsey; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Al; her parents, Edward and Annie Nite; brother, Thomas Edward Nite; sisters, Amanda Adams, Mattie Jank, Eunice Krieger, Violet Brown, Gladys Nite and Della Pape; her mother–in-law, Dosia Hohman; and brother-in-law, Jerome Hohman. Pallbearers will be Ben Wagner, Cole Wagner, Louis Boatright, Galen Dodson, R.L. Jack Hohman, Calvin Knauth, Ed Cooper and Bobby Shelton. Honorary pallbearers are Misti Wagner, Rocky LaRoche, Lauren LaRoche and Alva Haydon. Visitation will be held today from 6-8 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Chapel in Dripping Springs. Twanakaye Leonard
Twanakaye Leonard, 63, passed away Monday, March 24, 2003 in Brenham. She was born May 23, 1939 in Boise, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Donald and Letha Russell; and brother, Terry Russell. Survivors include mother, Nadine Honey; daughters, Dody Gonzales and husband Jesse of Milwaukee, Wis., Camby Caracoza of Garden Grove, Calif. and Kimberly Jankowski of Columbus, Neb.; sons, Mike Leonard and wife Kami of Brenham and Shane Leonard and wife Natalie of Seabrook; and daughter, Charri Witucki and husband Joe of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Ian, Sean, Diedre, Sara, Bobbi, Robin, Dakota, Brandon, Lauree, Ryan, Ashley, Shelby, Karen, Amber, Matthew, Tara, Michael, Larry, Joshua, Lacey, Leah and Layne; great-granddaughter, Miyah; and also her beloved pet, Poco. Aster Jewel Neal Devault, 56, passed away March 25, 2003. Services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Ross officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Baptist Cemetery. Funeral services for Audrey Jean Jones will take place at the Mt. Roy Green Jr., pastor of the Mars Hill Deliverance Tabernacle of Rek Hill, Texas. Ms. Jones passed away March 21, 2003. She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Sam Evans of Brownwood, Texas and her sister, Andrea Lorraine (Evans) Moore of Brenham. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Raymond Louis Jones of Industry, Texas; her mother, Jim Ella Wade of Columbus, Texas; three daughters and one son, Candilyn J. Fred Ruemke
Fred Ruemke, 78, of Brenham, died March 27, 2003 in a Houston hospital. Mr. Ruemke was born Sept. 16, 1924 in the Zionsville community of Washington County, Texas to Reinhardt and Emma Heins Ruemke. He was baptized March 8, 1925 in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville and was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended Greenvine Grammar School. Mr. Ruemke served in the Army from 1949 to 1950 during World War II. On Nov. 19, 1950, he was married to Lois Faye Bentke in St. John's Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill. Mr. Ruemke was employed as a salesman for more than 30 years at Western Auto and later worked at Mickan Hardware. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brenham and the American Legion. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Larry Schneider of Houston; granddaughter, Amber Leigh Schneider of Houston; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Dorothy Bentke of Brenham, Herman and Donna Bentke of Brenham, Raymond and Verna Mae Bentke of Houston, Christine Bentke of Brenham, Rosa Ida Bentke of Houston, Mary Jo and Ervin Schulz of Brenham and Alma Place of Marquez. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herman and Emma Bentke; wife, Lois Ruemke; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Melvin Bentke, Bill and Georgia Mae Bentke, Alfred Bentke, Ida and Johnnie Kaechler and B.F. Ruby Madlyn Wallis
Ruby Madlyn Wallis, 87, passed away March 31, 2003 in The Woodlands, Texas. She was born July 28, 1915 in Iota, La. She and her deceased husband, William R. Wallis, lived in Houston for many years. She retired from Shell Oil after more than 40 years of service. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to Brenham, Texas. She was a member of the Brenham Presbyterian Church, the Eastern Star and the Washington County Heritage Society. She was also a volunteer at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Survivors include nephew, Robert Lee Nolan; and nieces, Gloria Harris, Linda Dobbins, Susan Ducchieri and Eloise Gorman. Mrs. Wallis was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ida Reeves Nolan; two brothers; and three sisters. Mrs. Wallis' family will receive friends at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham from 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 2. The funeral will be at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham Thursday, April 3 at 10 a.m. with interment at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville, Texas. Sara Reichstein Toubin
Sara Reichstein Toubin passed away Saturday, March 8, 2003 in Methodist Diagnostic Hospital in Houston. Burial was in the B'nai Abraham Cemetery in Brenham Sunday, March 9, 2003. Rabbi David Moss of Houston officiated. Sara Reichstein Toubin was born in Europe June 9, 1920 and at the age of 2 1/2 years came to America with her family and lived in Galveston, Texas. She attended Galveston public schools and after graduation worked in the clerical department at Fort Crockett in Galveston. Sara Reichstein married Milton Toubin Jan. 15, 1950 and they made their home in Brenham. Her husband of 43 years was associated with the New York Stores. Mrs. Toubin had resided in Houston for the past eight years. She was a member of B'nai Abraham Synagogue in Brenham and Congregation Beth Yeshurun in Houston. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milton Toubin; their son, Barry Toubin; three sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews, who were very close to her. Memorials may be given to B'nai Abraham Synagogue and Cemetery, P.O. Myrtle Finke
Myrtle Finke, 87, of the Round Top area, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003. Survivors include three sons, Jimmie Finke, Jackie Finke and wife Margaret and John Finke and wife Ida Bell; and one daughter, Nancy Althaus and husband, E.G. Mr. Lee Edward Eldridge
Services for Mr. Lee Edward Eldridge (Cho), 50, were scheduled for Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m. at Zion Church of Christ in Lyons were Bro. Mack Bailey officiated. Mr. Eldridge leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Florence Eldridge Gentry; one daughter; one grandson; one special friend; 10 brothers; five sisters-in-law; three sisters; two brothers-in-law; one great nephew; and a host of other relatives and friends. Burial will be in Sweet Home Cemetery in Somerville. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taft Harris Funeral Home.

Debra Snow Budnik
Debra Snow Budnik, 43, entered into eternal rest April 6, 2003. Cancer could not conquer her indomitable spirit. She possessed incredible strength, a strong will and great love for her family and friends. She was born June 14, 1959 in Houston. She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Kirschke; and is survived by her loving family, husband, Larry; children, Brittany and Shelby; brothers, Mark and Craig Kirschke; mother and step-father, Joyce and Carl Bridges; numerous other relatives and a host of very close friends. She was a wonderful daughter, loving wife, super mom, extraordinary friend and giving person. She was touched by the lives of many friends from a young age, many of whom ministered to her to the end. She was educated through Houston schools and graduated from Scarborough High School in 1980. The family moved from Houston to Brenham in 1997 and she soon developed many relationships with new and close friends through community activities and employment with Blue Bell Creameries. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 9 at 10 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 1104 Carlee Drive, Brenham, 77833. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 8, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1106 W. Main, Brenham, (979) 836-4564. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frank Rybarski, Edward Rybarski, Billy Lehde, Bobby Lehde, James Vaughn, Stanley Klekar, Rick Bosse, Ricky Boeker, Kirk Hanath and Darryl Heine. Ruth Marie Everly
Ruth Marie Everly, 79, of Brenham, passed away this morning in Brenham Rest Home. She was born Feb. 4, 1924 in Morrow County, Ohio to Lewis Lehner and Nellie Alice (Dodrill) Lehner. On Dec. 7, 1944 she married James Burton Everly in Marion, Ohio. She was a pharmacist assistant and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clifford and Harold Lehner; and sister, Grace Gore. Survivors include husband, James Burton Everly of Brenham; son, Daniel Every and wife Nid of Brenham; daughter, Connie Thorpe and husband Robert of Magnolia; grandchildren, Scotty, Chad and Ben Thorpe, Tracey Tevere, Christy Shaw and Marci, Nicholas and Shawn Everly; brother, Donald Lehner of Carthage, Texas; sister, Velma Lehner Johnson of Havasu City, Ariz.; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Bone of Lexington, Ohio. Alton P. Smith
Funeral services for Alton P. Smith, 67, of Navasota, were scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home with Dr. Max E. Brand III of Calvary Baptist Church of Pearland officiating. Interment followed in Oakland Cemetery in Navasota Mr. Smith died Saturday, April 5, 2003 at his home. He was born Oct. 14, 1935 in Hanna, Wyo., the son of A.B. and Betty Smith. A graduate of Navasota High School, Smith married Jo Ann Costa March 3, 1957. A dairy farmer with his dad until 1961, when they sold the farm and dairy, he was for a short period of time a realtor in Houston. Later they moved to Paris, Texas and began his career with John Deer. In 1971, he sold the dealership in Paris and moved to Navasota and went to work with his Uncle Phil at Smith Bros. Implement Co. and in 1977 he, along with partner Ned Holmes, purchased the dealership from his uncle. In 1996, he became the sole owner until his retirement Oct. 31, 2001. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jo Ann C. Smith; two sons, Robert "Rob" Smith and Rex Alan Smith, all of Navasota; three grandchildren, Suzanne Smith of Denton and Robert and Ben Smith of Cameron; brother, Allen Smith of Vidor; sister, Phyllis Vaughn and husband Don of Blossom; aunt and uncle, Phil and Emma Smith of Corsicana; along with numerous other relatives and friends. Edwin William Wensel
Edwin William Wensel, 82, of Brenham, died April 5, 2003 in Brenham Rest Home. Mr. Wensel was born Sept. 18, 1920 in Washington County, Texas to August and Mathilda Guthmann Wensel. He was baptized in St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton and was confirmed April 14, 1935 in the same church. He attended Mill Creek and Brenham schools. Mr. Wensel served in the Air Force from Jan. 18, 1943 through Aug.13, 1943. On Nov. 7, 1953 he married Margaret Miiller in St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton. Mr. Wensel was a dairyman, painter and furniture repairman. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton. Michiel Andrew Wright, age 54 of Elkhart, Texas, passed away April 5, 2003. Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, Debra Wright; sons, Kevin Wright and wife Rowena, Ronny Carmichael and wife Kathy and Michiel Wright and wife Rachael; brothers, Keith Wright and Kent Wright and wife Rena; sisters, Ruth Ann Wright and Linda Kay McNabb; and grandchildren, Faith Wright, Christian Carmichael, Cross Carmichael, Brandon Wright and Michiel Wright. Raymond Lee Gibbs Sr.
Raymond Lee Gibbs Sr., 83, of Brenham, died April 7, 2003, in the V.A. Hospital in Waco. Mr. Gibbs was born Feb. 22, 1920 in Unitcia, Tenn., to David Alonza and Alice Ward Gibbs. He was baptized in New Providence Baptist Church in Dutch Valley, Tenn. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific Combat Campaigns receiving two presidential citations and the Purple Heart. He served seven years, attaining the rank of master gunnery sergeant. Mr. Gibbs was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Brenham, the VFW James F. Dillon Post, the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. He was self-employed as a refrigeration technician. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Gibbs of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, Delton and Marcia Chamberlain of Metamora, Mich., Raymond Gibbs Jr. of Brenham and David and Dawn Gibbs of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Bill Brooks of Franklin, N.C.; sister, Nell Leinart of Kingston, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 11 in Memorial Oaks Chapel with Merlin Swan officiating. Raymond Hurtig
Raymond Hurtig, 61, of Brenham died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 in Trinity Medical Center. He was born March 17, 1942 in Brenham to Theodore W. Hurtig and Esther Boecker Hurtig. He was baptized May 24, 1942 by A.J. Mohr and confirmed April 14, 1957 by the Rev. O.K. Oelke at Salem Lutheran Church where he remained a member. He attended schools in Welcome and Kenney. He worked at Boeker Feed Store and Brenham Opportunity Center. He is preceded in death by his father on Feb. 7, 1975; mother on Dec. 12, 1975; and brother Theodore on Sept. 3, 1999. His survivors include uncle, Bennie Boecker and wife Pearly; aunts, Lydia Schroeder, Mabel Winkelmann, Hildegard Brinkmeyer, Dolores Meier and husband Lilburn; and also many cousins. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003 in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2003 in Brenham Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Eugene Debbs Holstien
Eugene Debbs Holstien, 81, of Houston, passed away April 8, 2003 in Spring Branch Medical Center in Houston. Mr. Holstien was born Jan. 10, 1922 in Palmetto, La. He married Mary Irene Loomis on Jan. 13, 1940. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints. Mr. Holstien retired after over 40 years in the oil industry. He was plant foreman for an oil pipe coating plant, Plastic Applicators, in Houston. He transferred in 1955, to open a plant in New Orleans, then returned to Houston base in 1961. He traveled to several states, as well as, Mexico and Germany, in both coating and inspection of oil field pipes. Mr. Holstien will be remembered as a quiet, loving man, who enjoyed cooking, traveling and spending time with his family. Mr. Holstien joined the United States Navy at age 19. He served in World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Tal Holstien of Navasota and Morris and Cyndi Holstien of Bandera; daughters and sons-in-law, Alta and Harvey Jones of Leaky, Donna and Ralph Branch of Houston, Rita Senteno and Art Senteno of Brenham and Deana Galvan of North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 22, 1985; his parents; one sister; and nine brothers. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. yesterday at Veterans Funeral Services in Houston. Funeral Services were at 12:30 p.m. today at Houston National Cemetery in Houston. Pallbearers will be Beau Bryant, Randy Bryant, Brian Cubbage, Cody Cubbage, Jeff Cubbage Jr., Robert Estrada, Art Senteno and Gene Senteno.

Gertrude Goeke Mutscher
Gertrude Goeke Mutscher, 94, of Brenham, died April 9, 2003 in Brenham. Mrs. Mutscher was well known in the Brenham area and her son, Gus F. Mutshcer, was the former county judge in Washington County. Funeral arrangements are pending as they are being coordinated with immediate family members in Michigan, California and Washington, D.C. Elvin Rapalo
Elvin Rapalo, 21, of Brenham, died April 7, 2003 in Temple, Texas. Mr. Rapalo was born Sept. 23, 1981 in Honduras to Lillian Garcia and Emilio Aguilar. He was employed at Cleaners Hangers. Survivors include his mother, Lillian Garcia of Brenham; brothers, Alex Rapalo and Christian Garcia, both of Brenham; sisters, Celeste Garcia of Brenham, Daniela Lopez of Brenham and Emma Rapalo of Honduras; and aunt, Mirelia Otero of Brenham. Robbie D. Sweet
Funeral services for Robbie D. Sweet, 73, of Somerville will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 11 from Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville with the Rev. Virgil Pecht officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville. Mr. Sweet passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2003 in Central Texas Veterans Health Care Systems Hospital in Temple. He was born in Cleveland on July 27, 1929 and was a graduate of Cleveland High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Army. He worked as an electrician for Gulf States Utilities until his retirement and was a member of Marion Mays American Legion Post #455 of Somerville. He was also a member of First Lutheran Church in Somerville where he served on the church council for many years. His parents and one brother precede him in death. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Helen A. (Wolff) Sweet of Somerville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Dana Lee and Billy Young of Hewitt and Dona Lyn Hardwick of Wimberly; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robbie D. Sweet Jr. and Kathy Sweet of Colby, Kan. and Jimme Darren (known as Don) and Cheryl Sweet of Wimberly; one step-daughter, Ora Lee and husband Charles Frisch of Austin; two sisters, Gwendolyn P. McNeely and Grace LaNel Mitchell, both of League City; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. Evelyn Doretta Northrup
Evelyn Doretta Northrup, 82, of Brenham, died April 11, 2003 in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mrs. Northrup was born July 18, 1920 in Houston to Joseph and Evelyn Doretta Lohse Kreger. She was employed at Stelzig Western Wear in Houston and Marsh Dept. Store. Mrs. Northrup was a member of the Herbal Society in Round Top, the William Penn Extension Homemakers and the Brenham Presbyterian Church and Ladies Guild. She was also a mentor for the HOSTS program at Brenham Elementary School. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Preston G. III and Debbie J. Northrup of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Joel Christie of Dickinson; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Ruth Kreger of Houston; grandchildren, Buddy Northrup, Cindy Longoria and Wendy Cary; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston G. Northrup II and brother, Kenneth Kreger. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 14 in Brenham Presbyterian Church. Bernice Selma Rogge
Bernice Selma Rogge, 70, of Brenham died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at Trinity Medical Center. On Oct. 4, 1932 she was born to Otto Sommerfeld and Emma (Wegner) Sommerfeld in the Salem Community of Washington County. She was baptized Jan. 29, 1933 by the Rev. Wm. Utesch and confirmed May 16, 1948 by the Rev. W. C. Poehlmann at Salem Lutheran Church where she remained a member. She was educated in the Wesley Schools. On Nov. 13, 1960 she was married to Theo Rogge Jr. in Salem Lutheran Church by the Rev. O. K. Oelke and became a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister. Her survivors include husband, Theo Rogge Jr. of Brenham; son, Dwayne Rogge of Brenham; daughter, Connie Smith and husband Tom of League City; grandchildren, Jordan, Andrew and Erin Smith; brother, Ervin Sommerfeld of Brenham; sisters, Bertha Kruse of Prairie Hill, Weda Preuss of Brenham and Viola Priesmeyer of Bellville. Ella Mae Faithauer Burnside
Ella Mae Faithauer Burnside, 67, passed away April 14, 2003 at her residence. She was born in the Gay Hill community May 26, 1935 to William and Emma Hahn Faithauer. She attended Gay Hill schools and worked as a housekeeper. Ella Mae loved her family. She cared for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed her flowers. She is survived by her children, John Jr. and Brenda Supak of Chappell Hill, Allen Supak of Granite Shoals, Texas, Ronald and Yvonne Supak, Michael Supak, Diane Myers and Joan Meschwitz, all of Brenham; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Herbert Faithauer Sr. and his wife, Linda Mae of Brenham; and sisters, Adele Brown of Tomball, Selma Carr and Edna Plantt, both of Brenham. Adele Spivey Goeth of Adkins, Texas, entered into rest Monday, April 14, 2003 at the age of 73 years. She enjoyed the ladies circle at Christ Lutheran Church in Brenham and was a worthy matron of the Order of The Eastern Star, LaVernia Chapter. Adele was preceded in death by her son, Randall Troy Goeth; her father, Thomas Troy Spivey; and her aunt, Harriett Edith New. She is survived by her husband, Arthur C. Goeth Jr.; children, Arthur Conrad Goeth III and wife Terrie, Cynthia Goeth Robinson and husband Ray, Melanie Goeth Tiemann, Suann Goeth Stone and Susan Goeth Scott and husband Douglas; mother, Hannah Elizabeth Spivey; daughter-in-law, Mildred Young Goeth; grandchildren, Ryan and wife Sonia, Aaron, Sarah, Kathryn, Matthew, Reagan, Michael, Nicholas, Troy, Stephanie and husband Robert, Vanessa, Charles, Jennifer, Jason, Joshua, Holly and Heather; great-grandchildren, Isaac, Illiana, James, Roman and Samuel; godchild, Denise Adele Hild; and cousin, Juanelle Linenberger. Ella Rodenbeck Rau
Ella Rodenbeck Rau, our beloved Mother and Granny, died Monday, April 14, 2003 in Bluebonnet Hills Care Center. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and the last surviving child of 10 born to C.C. (Charley) and Malinda (Sprain) Rodenbeck Aug. 12, 1907 in the Pleasant Hill community. Her baptism was Oct. 20, 1907 in St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem by the Rev. Gustav Szillat and confirmation was Aug. 8, 1920 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Gay Hill by the Rev. G.E. Grueber. Ella attended Washington County schools in Cedar Hill. On Dec. 7, 1927 Ella and Otto Rau were united in marriage at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Gay Hill by the Rev. A.W. Weber and she became a homemaker. Ella was a member of Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin and the Women of ELCA. Granny enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren but also took joy in her flowers, cooking, sewing, crocheting, quilting and canning. Ella was a very caring person who loved her family. Ella's family are her children, Cleburne Rau and wife Nadine of Brenham, Ella M.
