Reakus Kohl
Reakus Kohl, 84, of Brenham, died April 14, 2003 at his residence. Mr. Kohl was born Feb. 9, 1919 in Kentland, Ind. to Reakus Henry and Lilly Marion Leminger Kohl. On Dec. 13, 1944 he married Juanelle Brister in Riverside, Calif. Mr. Kohl was a carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Juanelle Kohl of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, Reakus Jr. and Donna Kohl of Livingston and Hubert and Diane Kohl of Seattle, Wash.; daughters and sons-in-law, LaSharon and Don Thompson of Brenham and Marion and Mike Lee of Riverside, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law, Mariana and Lieman Robinson of Camden, Ark.; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia; stepson, Gary Ring; and great-grandson, Christopher Murdock. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 19 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 18 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Margaret Ann Richter
Margaret Ann Richter, 60, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at her residence near Industry, Texas. She was born Aug, 24, 1942 in Industry to Marvin (M.H.) and Esther Wensel Dierking. On Oct. 25, 1942 she was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome by the Rev. I.M. Mansur and confirmed March 25,1956 by the Rev. Walter Wolf. She continued to be a very faithful and active member of her church, the Women of the ELCA and Naomi Circle. She was a member of the Industry Firemen's Auxiliary. Margaret attended Welcome Elementary School and graduated from Bellville High School and Blinn College. She was employed by Valmont - ALS. On Oct. 9, 1965 Margaret and Thomas Richter were united in marriage at the Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome by the Rev. Walter Wolf. Survivors include husband, Thomas Richter of Industry; father, M.H. Dierking of Bleiblerville; daughter, Ronda and Kevin Hutcherson; grandchildren, Trevor and Morgan of Magnolia, Texas; brother, Daniel Dierking and wife Marilyn of Bleiblerville; sisters, Erline Ferguson and husband Tom of Angleton and Dorothy Dierking of Brenham; brother-in-law, Rodney Roeske of Brenham; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Janis Richter of Austin and Robert and Sharon Richter of Friendswood. She is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her mother, Esther; sister, Faye Roeske; mother and father-in-law, Alfred and Ruth Richter; and brother-in-law, William Richter. The family will receive friends and family during visitation Thursday, April 17, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2003 at Welcome Lutheran Church with the Rev. Milton Maly officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Walter Hahn
Walter Hahn, 96, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2003 in Trinity Care Center. Walter was born Jan. 5, 1907 in Burton, Texas to Richard and Louise Stegmann Hahn. He was a graduate of the Independence school. He began 62 years of marriage to Elsie Franke on Oct. 14, 1940 in Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin by Pastor William Utesch. Mr. Hahn worked as a farmer and rancher and was a member of Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Hahn; and sister, Louise Loesch of Wiedeville community. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. His family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today in Brenham Memorial Chapel. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2003 in Brenham Memorial Chapel with Pastor Teresa Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Donald Curtis Holmes Jr.
Funeral services for Donald Curtis Holmes Jr., age 18, who died at his residence at 302 Rippetoe, on April 14, will be held Saturday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church in Brenham. The Rev. J.D. Harris will officiate with burial in the Willow Grove Cemetery. Survivors include his father, Donald Curtis Holmes Sr. of Brenham; mother, Jocelyn Lister of Grand Prairie; two sisters, Tamyra Holmes of Arlington and Tametria Holmes of Grand Prairie; one brother, Tristian Curtis Holmes of Houston; his grandmother, Dorothy Holmes; grandfather, Kenneth Lattimore; several devoted aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Danny Earl Johnson
Danny Earl Johnson, 41, passed away April 10, 2003. Services will be held Saturday, April 19, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Macedonia A.M.E. Church in Clay, Texas. Burial will be in the Clay Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon-5 p.m. at the funeral home and the wake will be at the church from 6-9 p.m. Taft Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dennis Henry Luetge
Dennis Henry Luetge, 89, of Brenham, died April 16, 2003 in Bluebonnet Hills Care Center in Brenham. Mr. Luetge was born Oct. 1, 1913 in Industry, Texas to Henry and Mary Kruse Luetge. He attended Schoenau Public School in Austin County. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wiedeville on April 6, 1952. On Jan. 30, 1936 he married Lula Meyer in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. Mrs. Luetge died Nov. 22, 1997. On Feb. 14, 2000 Mr. Luetge married Erma Green Prigge in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wiedeville. Mr. Luetge was the foreman of the Doe Run Ranch for 30 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wiedeville, where he served on the council and ushering committee. For many years he served as president of the Washington County Roping Club. He also served on the rodeo committee of the Washington County Fair Association and served on the board of the Old Washington School District. Mr. Luetge was a member of the Cutting Horse Association and the Sons of Hermann. He received the Ranch Manager of the Year award from the Washington County Soil Conservation. Mr. Luetge loved his family, enjoyed working with horses, loved being with his friends and playing cards. Survivors include his wife, Erma Luetge of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Glynne Nell Luetge of Hempstead; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Elroy Wellmann of Brenham, Dolly and Gerald Krause of Brenham and Karen and Mack Machacek of Austin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mamie and Jimmy Swonke of Cat Spring and Mercedes and Leon Vierus of Brenham; 12 grandchildren, Troy Wellmann, Dean Luetge, Scott Luetge, Kyle Krause, Kris Krause, Koy Krause, Dennis Luetge, Vickie Nelson, Tammy Hill, Kelly Kwiatkowski, Sheryl Townsend and Donna Land; and 21 great-grandchildren. Besides his first wife of 63 years, Lula Luetge, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Luetge, on Feb. 17, 1990; his parents; and a brother and sister, who died in infancy. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19 in Immanuel Lutheran Church in WiedevilIe with Pastor Virgil Pecht officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Funeral service for Earlie Mae Thomas, who died at her residence on Quarry Road, will be held April 19 at 11 a.m. in the Brenham Junior High School auditorium. Joseph Henry, elder of the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, will officiate with burial in the Hope Well Cemetery. Survivors include five sons, Hank Thomas Jr., Aaron, Augusta, Arthur and Jessie Thomas; nine daughters, Earlene Heard, LaVerne Heard, Shirley Harris, Leda Ray, Caroline Thompson, Mary Hubert, Malinda Thomas, Betty Daniels, and Sunny Lynn Cunningham.; three brothers, five sisters; 59 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends. Fred Washington
Funeral services for Fred Washington, age 67, who died in a Houston hospital on April 24, will be held Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Chappell Hill. The Rev. Gerald Patrick “Pat” Derrick
Gerald Patrick “Pat” Derrick, 62, of Brenham, died Thursday in Trinity Medical Center Hospital in Brenham. Mr. Derrick was born May 28, 1940, in Burton, Texas, to Earl and Janet Derrick. He was a graduate of Brenham High School, Blinn College and Sam Houston State University. Mr. Derrick taught and coached in Port Lavaca and Spring Branch School districts and later worked in construction business. Mr. Derrick was a member of the Brenham Elks Lodge. Survivors include his aunts Louise Derrick of Burton and Allyne Derrick of Burton, brother-in-law Gary Mokry and wife Sue of Spring, nephew Justin Mokry of Spring, niece Susanne Mokry of Spring, numerous cousins and friend Lila Carbaugh. Mr. Derrick was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Janet Derrick and his sister Susan Derrick Mokry. Lisabeth Millard Hammons
Lisabeth Millard Hammons, 57, of Brenham passed away Thursday, April 17, 2003. She was born Feb. 2,1946 in Tulsa, Okla. to Frank S. Millard and Kathryn Foreman Millard. She attended North Texas State University. On June 30, 1972 she was married to Eugene C. Hammons in the First Presbyterian Church in Galveston by the Rev. Bill Pryor. Lisabeth was a member of the Brenham Presbyterian Church, Daughters of American Revolution (DAR), the Independence Heritage Society, Tennis Club, Fortnightly Club and was an antique dealer. She was a devoted mother and wife. Family gatherings were highlights in her life. She was very bright and quick-witted, fun-loving, sentimental, loyal and faithful friend, entertained beautifully, very giving and generous, talented, played the piano and active in the community. She is preceded in death by her mother. Her survivors include: husband, Eugene C. Hammons of Brenham, father and stepmother Frank and Vicki Millard of Houston; daughter Amy and husband Chris Rupp of Seal Beach, Calif.; step-sons Eugene Hammons, Jr., David Hammons. Rev. Timothy and Elissa Hammons, John and Marla Hammons and Stokely Hammons; six grandchildren; sister Joan Hendricks and husband Roger; brother Stephen Millard and wife Nellie; two nieces and one nephew. Johnny W. Gibson Sr.
Funeral services for Johnny W. Gibson Sr., 57, of Lyons, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 29 from Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville with the Rev. Roy Norsworthy officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Cemetery near the George Community. Visitation will begin today from 1-9 p.m. with the family present from 6-9 p.m. and from 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 28 until the time of the service at the funeral home. Mr. Gibson passed away Saturday, April 26 at his home in Lyons. He was born in Bryan on June 1, 1945. He worked as a machinist for HiLine Industries in Brenham. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Gibson; one son, Shawn Gibson; one grandson, Tristan Rodriguez; and one brother, James H. Gibson. Survivors include his mother, Alta M. Gibson of Lyons; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Samuel Montoya of Liberty; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael Gibson of Bryan, Troy Lee and Lisa Gibson of Dayton and Johnny W. Gibson Jr. of Brenham; two sister, Verda Beasley of College Station and Jesse Schultz of Lyons; six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives. James Nitsche
Retired Master Sergeant James Nitsche, 86, of Killeen, Texas, died April 27 in Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 30 at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church in Killeen. Burial will be on the side of wife, Catherine. Survivors include daughter, Barbara Weiss; grandchildren, James and Terri Linn Weiss; brother, Nolan Nitsche; sisters, Nettie Linke, Flossie Jacob, Rosie Scholtz and Mildred Blount and several nieces and nephews.

Henry Raymond Stahl
Funeral services for Henry Raymond Stahl, 72, of Caldwell, were held at 11 a.m. today at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell with the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Interment was held in Caldwell Masonic Cemetery, Mr. Stahl died Saturday, April 26 at his home in Caldwell. He was born Feb. 25, 1931 in Brenham to Joe and Alma Jurries Stahl. He was retired from Southern Pacific Railroad after 40 years of service and had served as a maintenance foreman for many years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Engineers, Sons of Hermann and American Legion Post #455 and Calvary Baptist Church in Brenham. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jancik Stahl; his parents and five siblings. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Rick Archibeque of College Station; two brothers-in-law, Will Jancik and wife, Claudine and George Jancik and wife, Barbara, all of Caldwell; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Stahl of Angleton, Vi Stahl of Abilene and Barbara Stahl of Buffalo; and two grandchildren, Courtney and Caitlin Archibeque. Pallbearers were Tommy Kramer Jr., Randy Schmidt, Robert Stahl Jr., Joe Stahl, Allen Jancik, Danny Archibeque, Peter Pietro and John Pietro. Larry Wayne Von Minden
Larry Wayne Von Minden, 54, of Pasadena, died April 27, 2003 in Brenham. He was born June 26, 1948 in Freeport, Texas to Harry and Curlie Ullrich Von Minden. He was educated in Round Top-Carmine and Freeport. On Oct. 8, 1986, he married Donna M. Del Flore in Harris County, Texas. He was a commercial fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Donna Von Minden of Pasadena; mother, Curlie Von Minden of Brenham; brothers, Burney Von Minden and Jimmie Von Minden, both of Brenham and John Von Minden of Freeport; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and D.C. Lindsey of Brenham; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and brother, O.D. Von Minden. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 1 in Burkhardt Cemetery, near Latium. Service arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.

Elvis Ray Hinze
Elvis Ray Hinze, 48, of Carmine died April 22, 2003 at his residence. Elvis was born May 18, 1954 in La Grange, Texas to Eldor and Ira Mae Noak Hinze. He was baptized Aug. 28, 1954 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top and was confirmed in the same church April 7, 1968. He was educated in Round Top-Carmine schools and Blinn College. On Oct. 12, 1974 he married Cindy Jacob in Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine. Elvis was a loving husband and devoted father. He assumed the role of egg production manager after the passing of his father-in-law and was a faithful employee of Jacob's Store and Jake's Eggs for 33 years. Elvis was a die-hard Oiler fan and a friend to many. Elvis was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine, where he was a past council member and current usher team member. He was a member of Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein, loyal promoter of Carmine Show Fund and board member of Fayette County Junior Livestock Show. Elvis was also a member of Carmine Fire Department, Carmine Lions Club, Round Top-Carmine Booster Club (charter member), Carmine Chamber of Commerce and Round Top Sons of Hermann Lodge #151. He received the FFA Honorary Degree and the 4-H Silver Clover Award. Survivors include his wife, Cindy Hinze of Carmine; sons, Ryan Hinze and wife Leslie of Houston and Kevin Hinze and special friend Kimberly Fischer of Carmine; daughter, Lauren Hinze of Carmine; mother, Ira Mae Hinze of Round Top; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Maggie Hinze of Round Top; sister and brother-in-law, Verna and Larry Meinkowsky of Hallettsville; mother-in-law, Jocie Jacob Braun and her husband Floyd Braun of Carmine; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark and Debbie Jacob of Carmine; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Tina and Eldon Mikeska of Brenham and Jane and Darrell Marek of New Ulm; and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty Lou Johnson
Betty Lou Johnson, 78, of Brenham, passed away Monday, April 21, 2003. Betty was born Feb. 2, 1925 in Hayworth, Ill. to Homer Baker Miller and Lydia Lee Bell Miller. She was married to William Wesley Johnson, who preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1987. Betty was a loving, gentle mother and grandmother. She enjoyed needle work, painting and travel. Her survivors include daughter, Jan Langan and husband John of Austin and Jill Morris and husband Ken of Brenham; grandchildren, Kelly Morris Mallow and husband Jason, Scott William Morris, Christopher Bauer Langan and Jennifer Lee Langan; and sister-in-law, Jo Ann Chandler; and niece, Nicolette Burse, both of Madison, Wis. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Elton Lonnie Tiemann
Elton Lonnie Tiemann, 60, of Brenham, died April 22, 2003 at his residence. Mr. Tiemann was born April 26, 1942 in Brenham to Erwin Robert and Lillie Hopmann Tiemann. He was baptized in St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem and was confirmed in the same church by the Rev. Perry. He was a 1960 graduate of Brenham High School, a 1962 graduate of Blinn College and a 1964 graduate of Sam Houston State University. Mr. Tiemann served active duty in the National Guard. On Aug. 29, 1964 he was married to Linda Lou Morgan in First Baptist Church in Hearne by the Rev. Lyles. Mr. Tiemann was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem, where he taught Sunday school and served on the council as chairman and secretary/treasurer. A member of BPOE 979, Mr. Tiemann served as past exalted ruler and district deputy governor. He coached little league, was chairman of the March of Dimes, was a lifetime member of Go Texan committee of the Houston Livestock committee and was a member of the Exchange Club and Brenham Jaycees. He was a former member of the Brenham Evening Lions Club. Mr. Tiemann was the owner of Star Party Rentals. Survivors include his wife, Linda Tiemann of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, Elton Lonnie "Lon" Jr. and Ronna Tiemann of Houston and Treyce and Sarah Tiemann of Grapevine; daughter, Brooke Tiemann of Brenham; a forthcoming grandchild in July; sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and Julian Martin of Brenham; sister-in-law, Peggy Tiemann of Brenham; mother-in-law, Dorothy Morgan of Brenham; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Charles and Mary Morgan of Brenham and Dot and Davis Shular of Colleyville; aunts and uncles, Elton and Elsie Pieper (his Godmother), Howard and Bernice Emshoff and Ruby Naumann; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Charles Henry Engelbrecht
Charles Henry Engelbrecht was born Nov. 12, 1909 in Burton, the son of Henry and Louise Fischer Engelbrecht. He entered into eternal rest Wednesday, April 30, 2003 in Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings, Texas. He was 93 years old. He was educated in the Burton School District. He was united in marriage to Dora Hohlt in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville Nov. 11, 1938 by the Rev. J. Fred Mgebroff. Dora and Charlie lived on their farm/ranch in the Burton community essentially all their lives. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton. Mr. Engelbrecht resided in Oakland Manor in Giddings since October 2002. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Dean Niday of Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Clyde and Lois Engelbrecht of Houston; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Vincent L. Grizzaffi Sr.
Vincent L. Grizzaffi Sr., 77, passed away peacefully at his home, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer, with his family by his side on May 3, 2003. He retired from the City of Houston after 31 years of service with the Houston Police Department, Park Patrol Division. Vincent's greatest enjoyment in life was being with his family as well as his love for gambling whether in Las Vegas or Louisiana. Vincent also enjoyed family vacations and camping with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rose Grizzaffi; brothers, Luke, Tony, Johnnie, and Sam. Gliffard Merle Schroeder
Gliffard Merle Schroeder, 78, of Brenham, died May 2, 2003 in Bryan. Mr. Schroeder was born Nov. 17, 1924 in the William Penn community to Willie and Millie Pohlmeyer Schroeder. He was baptized and confirmed in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in William Penn. Mr. Schroeder was educated at Blinn College, the University of Houston and Auburn University. From April 23, 1943 to March 17, 1946, during World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Engineers at Ft. Belvoir, Va., in the paratroopers at Ft. Benning, Ga. and overseas at Okinawa. On Oct. 15, 1987 he married Irene Bohne Frye in Faith Lutheran Church in Huntsville. Survivors include his wife, Irene Schroeder of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, David W. Sam Howard Bass Jr.
Sam Howard Bass Jr., 76, of Houston (formerly of Freeport, Texas), passed away Saturday, May 3, 2003 at St. Luke's in Houston. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 am. Thursday, May 8, 2003 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1307 West 5th Street, Freeport, Texas with Bishop William E. Sterling officiating. Sam was a life long area resident and was the first justice of the newly created First Court of Appeals in Houston, appointed by and created by the then governor of Texas, Bill Clements. He was a two-term state representative, instrumental in the establishment of the local art community, a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and a member of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Frances Beacroft Bass; son, Robert E.L. Bass; sister, Mrs. John (Betty) Hamlin; and several nieces and nephews. Lucy Ellen Ferguson Van De Mark
Lucy Ellen Ferguson Van De Mark passed away peacefully at her home in Houston May 3, 2003 at the age of 74 years. She was born in Brenham on Oct. 12, 1928 to Harry Elmer Ferguson and wife, Mattie Reeves Wood. Lucy Ellen grew up in Brenham and graduated from Baylor University in 1950. She taught the 4th grade in the Houston public school system before her marriage. She was the loved and respected wife of John Stevens Van De Mark, her husband of 48 years, who survives her. Lucy Ellen and John Stevens were married on Aug. 14, 1954 in the first marriage ceremony conducted at the new First Baptist Church of Brenham building completed on June 27, 1954. Lucy Ellen Ferguson Van De Mark was a direct descendent of Francis Watkins, one of the founders of Hampden-Sydney College, a Presbyterian educational institution, located in Prince Edward County, Virginia, which began operations on Jan. 1, 1776. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Houston Racquet Club and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. In addition to her husband, Lucy Ellen is survived by her daughter, Jane Ferguson Van De Mark of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her son, Brian Stevens Van De Mark and his wife, Dian Owen; and her grandson, Grey Van De Mark, all of Annapolis, Md.; her son, Craig MacGregor Van De Mark and his wife, Christine Chase Mitchell of Houston; and her sister, Alma Wood Ferguson of Brenham. Nelda Korthauer
Nelda Korthauer, 93, of Brenham, passed away May 8, 2003 in Trinity Care Center. Nelda was one of 12 children born to Wm. and Louise Landua Korthauer. She was born March 7, 1910 in Washington County. She was baptized in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rehburg May 15, 1910 by the Rev. H. Weber and confirmed Sept. 23, 1923 in the same church by the same pastor. Nelda attended Rehburg and Burton School. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rehburg. Nelda worked as a nurse in Burton and Bohne Hospital and then in Giddings for a number of years. She had many friends and was a care-giver until her health failed. She is survived by one brother, Herbert Korthauer of Rehburg; sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Edwin Harmel of Brenham; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, five sisters, two sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and three nephews. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 10 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rehburg with Pastor Larry Henrichs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Vlasta Ludvina Pomykal Miller left her mortal life Tuesday, May 6, 2003 in Houston at the age of 83 years and 11 months. She was born in the historic community of Wesley, Texas to parents, Josef and Frances Pomykal. Vlasta was a member of Wesley Brethren Church, Wesley Christian Sisters and attended Wesley School. She was preceded in death by sister, Hermina and brothers, Frank and Joe Herman Pomykal. She is survived by sisters, Albina Krizan and Matilda Cannaday; niece, Elaine Dawoodi-Bani and husband, Hooshang; and nephews, David and James Cannaday and Lawrence Krizan Jr. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, May 9, 2003 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 10, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Wesley Brethren Church. Herbert Andrew Pieper
Herbert Andrew Pieper, 93, of Brenham, died May 6, 2003 in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Pieper was born Jan. 9, 1910 in the New Wehdem community to John and Laura Poeppelmeyer Pieper. He was baptized and confirmed in St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem. He was educated at New Wehdem School. On Nov. 25, 1939, he married Hattie Schomburg in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg. Mr. Pieper was a farmer and was employed by Grimm's Radiator Shop for 35 years. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem and was a charter member of the Wonder Hill Shooting Club. Mr. Pieper loved hunting, fishing and watching Astros' games. Survivors include his wife, Hattie Pieper of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Virginia Pieper and Jerry and Christine Pieper, all of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Kern Borlin of Artesia, N.M.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Bennie and Erna Pieper of Brenham and Alfred and Norma Pieper of New Wehdem. Mr. Pieper was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
