Hildegard Winkelmann Fuelberg
Hildegard Winkelmann Fuelberg, 92, died Dec. 1, 2002 at Bluebonnet Hills Care Center in Brenham. Mrs. Fuelberg was born in the Salem community July 28, 1910 to L.F. and Lillie Jahnke Winkelmann. She was baptized Oct. 2, 1910 by the Rev. Johannes Mgebroff in the Salem Lutheran Church and was confirmed in the same church Aug. 5, 1925 by the Rev. William Utesch. On Jan. 9, 1937, she was married to Charlie O. Fuelberg from the Kuykendall community. The couple had two children, Roger Charles Fuelberg, who died in infancy; and Geraldine Fuelberg Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son and three brothers. Her daughter, Geraldine; and two grandsons, Todd Shane Johnson and wife Pennie of Clear Lake and Judd Wade Johnson of Houston, survive her. Surviving brothers and sisters-in-law are Fred and Lydia Winkelmann of Brenham and Raymond Winkelmann of Houston. Surviving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law are Arnold Fuelberg, Ben and Evelyn Fuelberg of Austin, Viola and Earl Bright, Lillie Sommer and Walter Fuelberg of Channelview. Very special nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbors survive her. Pallbearers are Louis Winkelmann Jr., Darrell Wiinkelmann, Henley Winkelmann, Fred Lamar Winkelmann, Kenneth Winkelmann and Veril Dietzmann. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 with Pastors Lawrence Bade and Kim Little-Brooks officiating. Jo Nell Prastik Hunt
Jo Nell Prastik Hunt, 73, of Brenham and the widow of Russell Dale Hunt, died Nov. 27, 2002 in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan after a lengthy illness. Jo Nell was born Oct. 7, 1929 in Sugar Land, Texas to Ernest and Darby Moore Prastik. She graduated from Rosenberg Lamar Consolidated High School and from Wharton County Junior College. On May 18, 1959, she was married to Russell Dale Hunt in Tulsa, Okla. Jo, Russell and their children lived in Houston for 29 years until Russell's death in 1991, after which Jo and Kathleen moved to Brenham. She is survived by her adored children: sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Hunt of Simonton, Texas, Christopher and Karen Hunt of Kanehoe, Hawaii and Milton Hunt of Houston; daughter, Kathleen Hunt of Brenham; grandchildren, Dustin, Shannon, Matthew and Cody Hunt; brother, James Prastik of Naples, Fla.; sister, Patricia Kennedy of Houston; nieces, Amy Kennedy of Austin and Leslie Brock of San Angelo; nephew, Kyle Prastik of Smithville; aunt, Middie Hart Cox of Smithville; uncle, Will Moore of La Grange and special cousins, Darby and Pat Kerr. Jo Nell was preceded in death by her parents; and stepsons, James and Gregory Hunt. Funeral services for Jo Nell Hunt will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wesley Wellborn and the Rev. Fred Trevino officiating. Louis Meschwitz
Louis Meschwitz, 80, of Brenham, died Saturday morning in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Meschwitz was born Aug. 14, 1922 in Washington County, Texas, the son of Adolph and Katie Skweres Meschwitz. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Mary's Catholic Church. He attended Brenham public schools and Blinn College. On Jan. 14, 1944 he married Norma Martha Loesch. He is survived by his sons: Roger Meschwitz of Houston and Jerry Meschwitz of Sparta, N.J.; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Glenn Dallmeyer of Brenham; daughter-in-law, Virginia Meschwitz of Brenham; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Wilbert McDaniel of Houston; sisters-in-law, Margaret Meschwitz of Sugar Land, Elsie Tegeler of Brenham, Alma Kenjura of Brenham and Edna Schroeder of Washington; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Selma and Robert Wellmann of Brenham, Rose Lee and Clarence Lohmeyer of Washington, Hilda and Roy Lorenz of Brenham and Ella Nora and Truman Flynt of Iola; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Martha Loesch Meschwitz; parents, Adolph and Katie Meschwitz; son, Carl L. Bobo Meschwitz; grandson, Rickie Meschwitz; one brother; and two sisters. Frank George Pomykal, 75, of Brenham, died Dec. 1, 2002 in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Pomykal was born Sept. 26,1927 in Wesley, Texas to Joe and Valasta Mikeska Pomykal. He was educated in Wesley schools, Brenham High School and Blinn College. On Nov. 1, 1952, he married Annie Bednar in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Pomykal was an independent oil producer. Survivors include his wife, Annie Pomykal of Brenham; son, Brice Pomykal of Brenham and his fiancée, Kalisa; daughter, Aneya Elbert of Brenham; grandchildren, Joiye Brice Pomykal, Katie Shae Pomykal, Shara Elbert and Allison Elbert; brothers and sisters-in-law, Verde and Janet Pomykal of Brenham and Roger and Eleanor Pomykal of Fredericksburg; and sister, Janet Kelley of Golden, Colo. Dorothy Lee Reliford
Services for Dorothy Lee Reliford, 74, of Lyons are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Lyons. The Rev. Basil Lister will officiate. Burial will be in the Lyons Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Taft Harris Funeral Home in Brenham. Mrs. Reliford died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center. Survivors include her husband, John Reliford; two daughters; two sons; a sister; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edward Wegner
Edward Wegner, 81, of Burton, died Dec. 2, 2002 in Brenham Rest Home. Mr. Wegner was born Jan. 18, 1921 in Burton, Texas to Edward Sr. and Sophie Goeking Wegner. He attended Burton schools and served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On Feb. 22, 1948, he married Verlie Hinze in Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine. Mr. Wegner was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton and the American Legion Martin Lewis Post 242. Survivors include his wife, Verlie Wegner of Burton; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert John and Linda Wegner of Houston and Richard and Olga Wegner of Burton; daughter-in-law, Elsie Wegner of Brenham; three grandsons, Michael Wegner and wife Jolene, Joseph Wegner and Gene; granddaughter, Sophie Wegner; great-granddaughter, Julie Wegner; sister, Lillian Boehl of Burton; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Leola Althaus, Wella Mae Behnke and Delphine and Rosa Lee Hinze; and special friend, Madelene Goldberg. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Joe Wegner. Edwin Farrack
Funeral services for Edwin Farrack, 73, of Giddings, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Edwin died Tuesday in Giddings after an extended illness. He was born Feb. 10, 1929 in Lee County to Oswald and Alma (Berger) Farrack. He married Betty Jean Mueller Nov. 15, 1959. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Farrack of Giddings; two daughters, Charlene Farrack of Giddings and Claris and Kevin Randig of Taylor; son, Calvin and Wanda Farrack of Giddings; brother, Carl and Vera Farrack of Giddings; sister, Florence Proske of Giddings; brother-in-law, Charles and Charlene Mueller Sr. of Carmine; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Beatrice Laura Eben Hegemeyer
Beatrice Laura Eben Hegemeyer, 67, of Welcome, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 in Trinity Medical Center. She was born Oct. 2, 1935 in Austin County to Walter and Edith Wienke Eben. She was baptized Nov. 17, 1935 and confirmed April 10, 1949 in Welcome Lutheran Church. She graduated from Bellville High School. On Jan. 23, 1955 she was married to Hubert T. Hegemeyer in Welcome Lutheran Church by the Rev. Walter Wolf. They made their home in Hempstead for 47 years and were retiring to her home place in Welcome. Beatrice was self-employed in crafts and sewing along with being a housewife. Most of all she loved being with her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Edith Eben; and brothers, Henry and Roosevelt Eben. Survivors include: husband, Hubert Theodore Hegemeyer of Welcome; sons, Randy Walter Hegemeyer and wife Vicki of Hempstead and Mark Hubert Hegemeyer and wife Melissa of Tomball; daughter, Laurie Beth Bettis and husband Barry of Hempstead; six grandchildren, Matthew Kyle Bettis, Charles Michael Hegemeyer, Jeremy Ryan (Gizmo) Bettis, Thomas Allen Hegemeyer, Mandy Lea Hegemeyer and Malorie Renee Hegemeyer; along with Stinky, her pet cat of 12 years. Frank Chester Konieczny, 69, of the Wesley community, died Dec. 4, 2002, at his residence. Mr. Konieczny was born April 2, 1933 in Washington County, Texas to Stanley and Helen Bilski Konieczny. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brenham. He attended Wesley Public School. Mr. Konieczny was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brenham. He was retired from Maddox Furniture and Chappell Hill Construction. Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Darlene Konieczny of Brenham; sisters and brothers-in-law, Annie and Albert Rybarski, Genevieve Rybarski and Louise and Albin Bolcerek, all of Brenham; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Konieczny of Houston. Adele Louise Sohns Mabry
Adele Louise Sohns Mabry, 88, of Brenham, died Dec. 4, 2002 in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. She was born Sept. 6, 1914 in Thrall, Texas to Fredrick and Charlotte Louise Wolf Sohns. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On July 20, 1940, she married Halbert Waffer Mabry in Houston. Mrs. Mabry was a retired bookkeeper for an insurance company. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Gwendolyn and Glenn Gates of Houston; sister, Irene Tiemann of Houston; granddaughters, Suzanne Rice and Sheryl Henson and husband Scott; great-grandchildren, Angela Kelly, Ryan Henson and Kellie Henson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Halbert Waffer Mabry; and great-grandson, Marshall Webb. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Bennie L. Weidemann
Funeral services for Bennie L. Weidemann, 84, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday Dec. 7, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Klein, Texas. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Bennie died Wednesday Dec. 4 in Brenham. He was born Jan. 14, 1918 in Round Top, Texas to Otto and Mary (Schwierzki) Weidemann. He married Gladys Kettler Oct. 17, 1943. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys (Kettler) Weidemann; daughter, Mary Ann Elkin; son-in-law, Dennis Elkin; and grandson, John L. Weidemann. Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Billie Weidemann of Brenham and Douglas and Shirley Weidemann of Spring, Texas; nine grandchildren, Shelley Scherer and husband Mark, Tammy Roberts and husband James, Kellie Keener and husband Sterling, Shannon Pavelka and husband Keith, Troy Weidemann and wife Julie, Kristie Wageman and husband Chris, Tricia Boggan and husband Craig, Shawn Weidemann and Korie Elkin; 10 great-grandchildren, Krissy, Kaleb, Reece, Dalton, Rhett, Jessie, Tyler, Dillion, Karlie and Rowdy; step-great-granddaughter, Savannah; sisters, Ceola Malkey and Martha Kramer; and sister-in-law, Lillie Weidemann. Thelma Mae Ackley
Thelma Mae Ackley died peacefully in her sleep at her home in New Ulm, Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002 at the age of 93 years. Thelma Mae Ackley was born June 30, 1909 in Rodgers, Texas to parents Ollie W. Walker and Lillie (Miller) Walker. She was baptized in 1915 at the First Baptist Church of Rodgers. On May 19, 1933 she married Clifford S. Ackley in Houston, Texas, and they had two children, Dorris Ann and Gaylen. In 1947 they moved to Sealy, where they owned The Confectionary. In 1955 they began the Industry Telephone Company. She was the telephone operator and took care of all aspects of the business while her husband worked for Southwestern Bell in Sealy. In 1958 they made their home in New Ulm. Thelma and her son, Gaylen ran the telephone company until her husband retired in 1972. She was one of the founding members of the West End Baptist Church in Industry. She was a former member of the Chapter of OES #324 in Columbus, and was a current member of the Chapter of OES #611 in Bellville. During her years as a member, she served several offices, including Worthy Matron. She was also a member of the Texas Pioneer Telephone Association. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Gaylen Ackley; son-in-law Thomas P. Barton; and grandson, Mark Ackley. She is survived by her loving family which includes her daughter, Dorris Ann Barton of Bay City; daughter-in-law, Mary Ackley; grandchildren, Debbie and Mike Stavinoha of Richmond, Robert and Diane Miller of Bastrop, Susie and Fermin Estraca of Bay City, Michelle Ackley of Bellville, Harold and Robin Marek of New Ulm, Curt and Sheila Raeke of Industry and Larry Ackley of Austin. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, John and April Jaster of Rosenberg; Brooke Davis of Richmond; Jason and Amber Miller, Nathan and Jackie Koi and Jennifer Miller of Bastrop; Brandi Hoggatt, Wendi and Tommy Holland, Mendi Hoggatt and Paul Hoggatt Jr. of Bay City; Reese, Anthony and Braden Raeke of Industry; Mason and Cameron Marek of New Ulm; and Nicholas, Allison and Christopher Ackley of Bellville. She is also survived by her great-great-grandchildren, Miranda Hoggatt of Bay City, Chase and Ty Miller and Avery and Trevor Koi of Bastrop. She is also survived by her extended family which includes, Trina Schverak, Olean Williams, Blanca Carries, Judy Harris, Betty Smith, Esther McNeese and Patricia Groseclose. Funeral services for Essie Armstead, who died in a Houston hospital, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. at Rocky Chapel Baptist Church. The Rev. Elijah Rogers will officiate with burial in the Houston National Veterans Cemetery. Survivors include four sons, Charles Ray Armstead, Delane Armstead, Maltie Hartfield and Charlie Roe; one daughter, Ann Phillips; one brother, Reginald Edward Armstead; one sister, Johnnie Mae Armstead; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, others relatives and friends. Virgil Bryant Spence Jr.
Virgil Bryant Spence Jr., 49, of Franklin, Texas, died Dec. 3, 2002 at St. Joseph's Regional Health Center in Bryan. He was born Jan. 10, 1953 in Hearne, Texas. He was the city attorney for the cities of Hearne and Bremond, Texas and co-owner of Love Abstract Company in Franklin, Texas. He was a member of the State Bar of Texas, had his own law practice in Hearne, Texas and was a member of Golden Rule Masonic Lodge #361 Hearne, where he served as a past worshipful master. Mr. Spence was a member of First Baptist Church in Hearne. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Spence of Franklin, Texas; son, Virgil Bryant Spence III (Trey) of Franklin; daughters, Candace Elizabeth Spence and Rebecca Noel Spence, both of Franklin; father, Virgil Bryant Spence Sr. of Orange, Texas; mother and step-father, Ruth and Herman Schoenemann of Carmine, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Mike Mathis of Belton, Texas; niece, Angela Mathis; nephew, Michael Mathis; brother-in-law, Gene Wilganowski Jr.; uncle, James E. Kennedy; and father and mother-in-law, Gene and Monique Wilganowski of Franklin, Texas. Funeral service was held Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Hearne, Texas with the Rev. Larry Blackmon officiating. Burial followed in Norwood Cemetery in Hearne, Texas. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Heartfield Funeral Home, Hearne, (979) 279-3444.
