Thursday, 9/11/2003 - 14 Elul 5763
Lena Schechter Oppenheimer, 95, died Tuesday. She was a member of The
Temple, National Council of Jewish Women � Louisville Section and Hadassah.
She is survived by her nephew, Dr. Larry Schecter of Cincinnati, OH; nieces,
Barbara Breyer of Chicago, IL, Shuly Stein of Quebec, Canada, and Lynn Hayden;
and great niece, Meghan Breyer of Chicago.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday at The Temple Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
Friends are to meet at 1:30 pm at Herman Meyer & Son, 1338 Ellison Avenue, at
which time they will proceed to the cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be given to the Animal Care Society or
Home of the Innocents.

Irving Eskind died on Wednesday in Winslow, Indiana.
A graveside service will be held at Anshei Sfard Cemetery, 721 Locust
Lane, today (Sunday) at 2:00pm.

Harry G. Edelstein, 77, died on Monday. He was the vice president of Edward
J. Miller Insurance, a member of The Temple, The Downtown Optimist Club, a
board member of the Boys and Girls Club and a Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Lucy Edelstein; a son, Alex
Edelstein; a sister, Elaine Schiff Rietze; a sister-in- law and brother-in-law, Reva
and Jess Newman; and a granddaughter, Ali Edelstein.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11:00am with visitation after
9:30am. Burial will follow the service in the Cave Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to either the Boys and
Girls Club or WHAS Crusade for Children.

Michael Richard Kean, 46, formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio, died Friday at Jewish
Hospital. He was a former associate of EMI Medical Publications in Cincinnati,
Ohio and an avid sports fan. He was a member of the Ohio University Alumni
Association.
He is survived by his aunt, Marjorie Kean Baker and her husband Allan; cousins,
Scott Goodman and his wife Kerry and Carol Grayson and her husband Bill.
A memorial service will be held Sunday in the Waller Chapel of The Temple, 5101
US Highway 42 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will begin after 1:00 pm.
Memorial donations may be given to The Temple, the Laurie Altman Kupferman
Fund at Jewish Hospital or to the Kentucky Humane Society

Ida Netter Kelber, 98, died Wednesday in Lady Lake, Florida. Mrs. Kelber was
born in Russia and came to the United States as an infant. She was the owner
of Ida Netter Kosher Catering before moving to Florida five years ago.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Shirley Cohen, grandson, Steven
Cohen and granddaughter, Debra Zukof, four sisters and her brother.
Survivors include her son, Ivan Netter; her daughter Esther Cavanaugh and her
husband Chris of The Villages, Florida; son-in-law Frank Cohen; grandchildren,
Larry Cohen, Bradley Cohen, Shelley Kahn and Amy Haskell, Dann Netter, Rabbi
Perry Netter and Marty Cohen of Los Angeles, California, Julie Latzko of Atlanta,
Georgia and Lee Cavanaugh of San Antonio, Texas; and 23 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held today (Friday) at 10:00am at The Temple Cemetery,
2416 Preston Highway.
Memorial gifts may be given to The Center for Women and Families, PO Box 2048,
Louisville, Kentucky 40201.

Julie B. Olson (Eliana Berit bat Abraham v Sarah)
After some pain, but ending in comfort and joy to be with her G--, Eliana
Berit (nee' Julie Brigid Olson), age 30, entered the sweet hereafter. Ongoing
was her quest to help others learn the most they could about this life and
themselves. She saw this life as a gift and a blessing. She believed good can,
and often does come from unfortunate situations. Her work as an EMT for
Yellow Ambulance and in Jewish Hospital Emergency Department, expressed her
gift of giving to others. She left no children, but will be missed by her 18-year old
cat, Ophelia. She is survived by her father, Walter Lewis Olson, Jr., and her mother
Judith (Towse) Olson. She is also survived by Rose Olson, her father's step-mother,
an uncle and aunt, Frederick and Trudy Towse and their family, also her father's sisters,
brothers and families. C. Lynne (Stanley) Cloud of Washington, DC, Alan (Patti) Olson
of Oregon, Mary Elizabeth (Hyatt) Wilson of New Hampshire, Charles (Mary Lynn)
Olson of Arizona, Rosemarie (Scott) Schwager of Florida, John Olson of Arizona, Paul
(Stacie) Olson of Virginia, and Mark (Bonnie) Olson of Arizona, and many cousins and
other relatives.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 11:00a.m. with visitation
beginning after 10:00a.m. Interment will follow in the Adath Jeshurun
Cemetery, 2926 Preston Highway.
Memorial donations may be given to The Julie Olson Memorial Fund at Congregation
Adath Jeshurun, American Red Magen David for Israel, or to the donor's favorite
charity.

Alexander W. Erlen, 96, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2003. He, along with his
wife, the late Selma Erlen, moved to Louisville in 1938 to serve as the executive
director of the Jewish Social Service Agency (known today as the Jewish Welfare
Federation). He brought to the job an experienced social service background, having
worked for the Jewish Social Services Bureau in Cleveland, Ohio, the preceding seven
years. He studied and earned bachelor of science and master of arts degrees from
Ohio State University, as well as an advanced degree from the Columbia School of
Social Work. In addition to counseling those in our community, his services included
the resettlement of New Americans who fled Nazi Germany, Holocaust survivors and
many post-war immigrants from Europe. He retired from this position in 1978. During
World War II, he served as executive director of the YMHA (today known as the
Jewish Community Center). He also formerly served as the executive secretary of the
Jewish Federation. Over the years, he held leadership positions and served on a
multitude of committees that benefited this community and the state. He always
took an active part in bettering the lives of all our citizens regardless of religion, race
or personal beliefs.
He leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Debby and Harry Lee Meyer of Louisville;
a son and daughter-in-law, Jonathon and Judy Erlen of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; three
beloved grandchildren, Andrew Meyer and his wife, Page Sampson of Glenridge, New
Jersey, and Thomas Meyer of Los Angeles, California; and a whole community of friends.
Services will be held at The Temple at 2 p.m. today (Sunday).
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Louisville, The Jewish Federation or
the charity of the donor's choice.

Johanna Fleischaker, 82, died Wednesday evening at Baptist Hospital East.
She was the former owner of Royal Jewelers.
She is survived by her sons, Stephen Frockt and his wife, Madolyn, and Richard
Frockt and his wife, Janet, of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter, Sandee Schulwolf
and her husband, Lynn; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
The funeral will be today (Friday) at 12:00 noon with interment in The Temple
Cemetery, 2416 Preston Highway. Visitation will begin after 11:00 a.m.
Memorial gifts may go to the Parkinson's Support Center of Kentuckiana or to
the donor's favorite charity.

Rose O. Baron, 81, died Monday morning at Baptist Hospital East. She was a member of
Temple Shalom and volunteered at both Temple Shalom and Shalom Towers.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Diamond and her husband Harvey; son
Lawrence Baron of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Faye Applebaum; grandchildren, Nicole
and Evan Diamond, Brad and Kyle Baron; and several nieces and nephews who loved
her.
Funeral services will be held today (Tuesday) at 5:00pm with visitation
beginning after 4:00pm. Interment will be in Anshei Sfard Cemetery, 721
Locust Lane.
Memorial donations may be given to Temple Shalom.

Sunday, 7/27/2003 - 27 Tammuz 5763
Robert Reynolds (Howard Hirsh), 82, died Friday at Four Courts Senior Center.
He was a native of Carnegie, Pennsylvania and a World War II Navy veteran. He
was a longtime professor of computer sciences. He taught at Allegheny Community
College from 1954-1984. He also taught at the Community College of Philadelphia
and Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Mr. Reynolds was also the author of
several books, one of which is included in the school system of Myrtle Beach, South
Carolina.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Madelyn Tyson and Sandra Bloomfield.
He is survived by 2 sisters, Florence H. Stein of Louisville, Kentucky and Helen
Gordon of Wheeling, West Virginia. Also nieces and nephews, Bonnie and Harold
Cohen of Louisville, who cared for him, David Tyson of Pittsburgh, Barbara Sciortino
of Springfield, Virginia, Bruce Gordon of Wheeling, West Virginia, Linda Roden of
Dayton, Ohio, Mark Lawrence of New Orleans, Louisiana and Kathleen Stein of
Pittsburgh; also seven grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral services will be held today (Sunday) at Ralph Schugar in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania.
