MOBILE COUNTY
Jerry L. Campbell Jerry L. Campbell, a Birmingham native and a retired human resources supervisor at CIA Specialty Chemicals in McIntosh, died Thursday at the age of 56.
Campbell graduated from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa and later served four years in the U.S. Navy, including a tour in Vietnam. He was then employed at Stillman College as director of admissions and placement.
Campbell was a member of the American Management Association, American Personnel Guidance Association, Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association, and Prichard Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. He was also a member of Stone Street Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Helen E. Campbell; one daughter, Jerrelen Gray Campbell; three sisters, Dr. Myrtle V. Campbell, Dr. DeSilver Cohen and Dr. Gloria Campbell-Whatley.
Services are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stone Street Baptist Church, with viewing and Friends Reception one hour before. Burial will follow in Lawn Haven Cemetery in Theodore, with Johnson-Allen Funeral Home in charge.

Robert C. Chandler
Robert C. Chandler, an Amory, Miss., native and a Mobile resident since 1942, died Friday at his home. He was 87.
Chandler was a member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church and a former employee of Mobile Steel Co.
He is survived by his wife, Sadie Renick Chandler of Mobile; one son, Robert G. Chandler of Mobile; one daughter, Mae Beth Hankins of Mobile; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with visitation one hour before. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Joseph F. Meek Sr.
Joseph F. "Joe Frank" Meek Sr., 79, a native of Burke's Gar den, Va., and a resident of Mobile, died Friday in a local hospital.
Meek graduated from Burke's Garden High School, attended Bluefield College in Virginia and studied electronic engineering in Chicago.
During World War II, Meek was a sergeant in the U.S. Army's American Division in the South Pacific. Meek was an electronics engineer in the Naval Ordinance Laboratory and retired from the Navy in 1978. He moved to Burke's Garden, where he was president of the community association and Central Lutheran Church Congregation.
Meek retired to Mobile in 1986. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mobile.
He is survived by two daughters, Margaret M. Mixon of Millersville, Md., and E. Jeanne Bass of Bowie, Md.; one son, Joseph F. Meek Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; three stepchildren, P. Jefferson Martin of Mobile, Stephen L. Martin of Montgomery and Carolyn L. Martin of Keene, N.H.; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Peery and St. Clair Funeral Home at 111 Ben Bolt Ave. Tazewell, Va. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Central Lutheran Church in Burke's Garden. Burial will follow in the family lot at the church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Central Lutheran Church or Central Lutheran Church Cemetery Association, Burke's Garden, Va. 24608.

CONECUH COUNTY

Clifton L. Brooks
REPTON - Clifton L. Brooks, a Monroe County native and a Repton resident, died Friday at a local hospital. He was 82.
Brooks was a member of Excel Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Andress Brooks of Repton; one son, Carlos Brooks of Pensacola; three daughters, Emily Morris of Mexia, Ala., Judy Pennington of Tallahassee, Fla., and Martha Easterling of Mobile; three sisters, Maggie Peal Tolbert of Evergreen, Ophelia Manning of Excel, Ala., and Willie Chandler of Mexia; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will at 2 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville. Burial will be in Repton Baptist Cemetery.

OTHER

Linda S. Manning
BRANDON, Miss. - Linda Starkey Manning, a Semmes native and former Mobile resident, died of cancer June 16 in an area hospice. She was 55.
Mrs. Manning was former owner of Lady Bug Flower Shoppe. She had lived in Jackson, Miss., for 36 years.
She was a member of Leavell Woods Exchange Club, Central Allied Florist Association and Mississippi Florist Association.
She had been a member of Pine Lake Baptist Church since 1997 and a member of Woodville Heights Baptist Church for 30 years.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Manning; a son, Alan Manning of Brandon; a daughter, Christy Tidwell of Mobile; a brother, Collier Lamar Starkey of Mobile; a sister, Carolyn Raines of Semmes; and three grandchildren.
Services took place June 17 at Baldwin Lee Funeral Home with burial in Rosemont Gardens Memorial Park.

Barbara J. Clarke
Barbara Jean Kearley Clarke, who resided in Mobile for 43 years, died Monday at home.
Mrs. Clarke, a native of Beatrice in Monroe County, was a member of First Baptist Church of Beatrice.
She is survived by her husband, Cecil D. Clarke of Mobile; three children, Deborah Lynn Miller of Plant City, Fla., Cathi Ann Clarke and Shannon Cecylia Clarke, both of Mobile; three sisters, Lois Kearley Thornton of Coden, Flora McCarn of Saraland and Ersell Lassiter of Cantonment, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Services are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Luolive Graham
Luolive Graham, a member of Church of God Pentecostal, died Friday at a local health care facility. She was 90.
A resident of Mobile, Mrs. Graham was a native of Marianna, Fla.
She is survived by five sons, Willis Graham Jr. of Milton, Fla., Bennie Edward Graham, Robert Earl Graham, Jerry D. Graham, all of Mobile, and Dennis Lee Graham of Augusta, Ga.; and five daughters, Mary Alexander of Milton, Rosa Battles, Mary Graham, Martha Graham and Dorothy Matthews, all of Mobile.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral begins at New Testament Holiness Church, 2729 Reaves Street. Burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery.
Christian Benevolent Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

James Harris
James Harris, a barber and a lifelong resident of the Fowl River area, died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 75.
Harris was retired from Ellis Flower Nursery. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by two sisters, Flora Richardson and Leanna Turk of Mobile, and his brother, Clarence Harris of Fowl River.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m. at Reese Funeral Home, with burial at Fowl River Cemetery.

Jefferson D. Kirksey
Jefferson Davis Kirksey, a retired foreman with ILA Local 1410, died Friday at a local hospital.
A native of Gilbertown, Kirksey resided in Mobile for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Fannie Kirksey; a daughter, Ella Betton; a sister, Delphine Green; and two grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hodges Funeral Chapel.

Johnnie Mae Robbins
Johnnie Mae Robbins, a lifelong resident of Mobile, died Thursday at a local hospital.
Mrs. Robbins, 85, was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Senior Citizens Group and a substitute pianist.
She is survived by two sons, James Allen Sr. and James Mason Jr.; a daughter, Geraldine D. McCloud; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services begin at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 1267 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., with burial at Magnolia Cemetery.
Christian Benevolent Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

BALDWIN COUNTY

Pearl Lomax
LOXLEY - Pearl Lomax, a native of Huxford and a resident of Loxley, died Monday, June 28, 1999. She was 99 years old.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Comstock of Orlando, Fla.; two sons, Billy Lomax of Silverhill and Aubrey Lomax of Hayward, Calif.; one brother, Russell Nolan of Loxley; 10 grandchildren and several great -grandchildren.
Graveside and funeral services with burial will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Greenwood Cemetery in Loxley, with the Rev. Joe Langham officiating.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Loxley First Baptist Church Building Fund. Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale is handling arrangements.

Haley Leann Murphy
MAGNOLIA SPRINGS - Infant Haley Leann Murphy, a resident of Magnolia Springs, died Friday, June 25, 1999.
She is survived by her mother, Melissa Ann Cottle of Magnolia Springs; her father, Eddie Lee Murphy of Foley; her grandparents, Darlene and Pat Respalie of Magnolia Springs, Russell and Betty Cottle of Robertsdale and Diane and Donald Murphy of Foley; and her great-grandparents, Robert and Velma Johnston of Loxley, Lillie Calloway of Illinois and Patricia Lewis of Lillian.
Graveside funeral services and burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at the Rock Cemetery in Robertsdale, with Johnny Emerson officiating. Funeral arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale.

CLARKE COUNTY

Ellis N. Armistead
THOMASVILLE - Ellis Norman Armistead, a former carpenter, died Sunday at his Thomas- �ville residence. He was 101.
Armistead, a native of Putnam, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I. He was a member of Elam Baptist Church and Oliver Lodge No. 334 F&AM.
He is survived by three sons, Charles Armistead of Melvin, Louie Armistead of Thomasville, and William Armistead of Saraland; two daughters, Margaret Godwin of Silverhill and Mary Skelton of Chunchula; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elam Baptist Church, with burial at the church cemetery.
O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY

Luvita T. Wise
ATMORE - Luvita T. Wise, an Atmore homemaker, died Sunday. She was 66.
Mrs. Wise, a native of Escambia County, was a member of McCullough Christian Center.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry C. Wise of Atmore; two sons, Jerry A. Wise and Jesse Wise of Jay, Fla.; three sisters, Retha Heston and Margaret Roundtree, both of Milton, Fla., and Linda Croder of Dothan; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at McCullough Christian Center, with burial at McCullough Cemetery.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

MONROE COUNTY

Billy Barnes
MONROEVILLE - Billy Barnes, who owned Billy Barnes Enterprises of Monroeville, died Saturday.
A native of Washington County, Fla., Barnes resided for most of his life in Monroeville.
He is survived by his wife, Fay P. Barnes of Monroeville; six children, Donnie Barnes, Terry Kilpatrick, JoAnn Rudowski and Pat Bowen, all of Monroeville, Cynthia Louise Elmore of Gulf Shores and Barbara Ogden of Mobile; two stepchildren, Jana S. Horton of Monroeville and Adam Snyder of Montgomery; two brothers, Robert Barnes of Panama City, Fla., and Johnny Barnes of Alford, Fla.; two sisters, Evelyn Champion of Graceville, Fla., and Susie Bauldee of Alford, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Visitation and services will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Monroeville First Baptist Church, with burial at Pineville Cemetery in Monroeville.
Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Whaling S. Gregg
ROBERTSDALE — Whaling S. Gregg, a native and resident of Robertsdale, died Monday, June 28, 1999. He was 24.
He is survived by his parents, Walter and Sheila Gregg, and his daughter, Cassie B. Gregg, all of Robertsdale.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Mack Funeral Home, with burial in the Silverhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale.

Fremont Virgil Brown
FAIRHOPE — Fremont "Slim" Virgil Brown, a native of Akron, N.Y., and a resident of Ashville, N.C., died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at his residence.
He is survived by two sons, Fremont V. Brown II and Thomas Michael Brown of Ashville; two brothers, Edward A. Brown of Largo, Fla., and Thomas Hucknal Brown of Fairhope; and three granddaughters.
Graveside services and burial were held Tuesday in Ashville.
Arrangements were handled by Groce Funeral Home in Ashville.
