MOBILE COUNTY

James Fuller
James Fuller, a retired construction worker, died Thursday at a local hospital. He was 78.
Fuller, a native and resident of Mobile, was a member of Stone Street Baptist Church. He served in the Baptist training union.
He is survived by a cousin, Dora E. Davis of Prichard.
Arrangements will be announced by Johnson-Allen Mortuary.

Willie Hayes
Willie Hayes, who had worked for many years as a truck driver with Camel 66, died Saturday at the age of 73.
Hayes was a native of Jackson, Miss., and a resident of Mobile.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys O'Neal Hayes of Mobile.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mary Grove Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Miss., followed by services at noon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home in Prichard.

Cordelia H. Pritchard
Cordelia H. Pritchard, a retiree of Interstate 2 Printing Co., died Thursday at a local hospital. She was 88.
Mrs. Pritchard, an Oklahoma native, was a longtime Mobile resident. She had worked as a binder with the printing company.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, and was a volunteer in the church's Braille services department.
Survivors include three children, Charles W. Pritchard, Frank Pritchard and Bertha Jeanette Pritchard, all of Mobile; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday in Pine Crest Cemetery, with Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street directing.
Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Braille Fund, 1356 Government St., Mobile, AL 36604.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY

Mary C. Mitchell
ATMORE — Mary C. Mitchell, who had worked as a store clerk, died Wednesday at a hospital in Atmore. She was 43.
Ms. Mitchell, known affectionately as "Cat Baby" to family and friends, was a native of Monroe County and a resident of Atmore. She attended school in Escambia County.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra R. Jackson of Atmore; her father, James Carl Mitchell Sr., and stepmother, Idela Pearl, both of Atmore; five sisters, Barbara Mitchell, Mary Alice Jewel Mitchell, Linda Crook, Annie Ruth Dailey and Deborah Bishop, all of Atmore; six brothers, John Hollinger, James Carl Mitchell Jr., Ben Mitchell and David Mitchell, all of Atmore, Robert Mitchell of Brewton, Ala., and Lloyd Mitchell of Monroeville; and three grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Turner Funeral Chapel in Atmore. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Mount Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore, with viewing one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Mizelle Phillips
ATMORE — Mizelle Phillips, who had been employed as a construction worker, died Saturday at a nursing facility in Pensacola. He was 27.
Phillips was a resident of Atmore and had attended school in Escambia County.
Survivors include three daughters, Shantel Rivers of Atmore, and Katerizha Jones and Sharika Phillips, both of Pensacola; a son, DeAndre Howard of Pensacola; five sisters, Nellie Johnson and Juanita Blount, both of Atmore, Debra Frye and Sherry James, both of Uriah, and Aline Phillips of Pensacola; five brothers, Ben Lee Phillips of Mobile, Ray Charles Phillips of Atmore, Sam Blount and Terry Blount, both of Pensacola and Tyrone Phillips of Uriah, Ala.
Viewing will be from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Turner Funeral Chapel in Atmore, with visitation beginning at 7:30 p.m. Services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Second Mount Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore, with viewing one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Stallworth Cemetery.

Mary R. Drees
DALLAS — Mary Roach Drees, a former longtime Mobile resident, died Wednesday in Dallas at the age of 83.
Mrs. Drees had lived in Dallas since 1985.
Survivors include two sons, Brian Drees of Littleton, Colo., and Barry Drees of Dallas; a daughter, Marilyn Drees of New Haven, Conn.; two brothers, Kiernan Roach of Roundup, Mont., and the Rev. Daniel Roach of Naga City, Philippines; and two grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Dallas. Burial will be in Sparkman Hillcrest Cemetery in Dallas, with Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home in charge.
Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association; the American Heart Association; or a favorite charity.

Berry A. Robinson
BOONEVILLE, Ark. — Berry Atlas Robinson, a resident of Booneville, and former resident of the Pleasant Hill community near Butler, Ala., died Tuesday at his home. He was 80.
Robinson, a retired engineer with the U.S. Army, was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a son, Gregory Berry Robinson; a daughter, Barbara Joan Robinson; and two sisters, Fronnie R. Lolley of Gilbertown, Ala., and Eula Mae Lolley of Jackson, Ala.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. today at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler. Graveside services with full military honors are set for 11 a.m. today in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Elvie Lou Smith
LOXLEY — Elvie Lou Smith, a native of Bon Secour and a resident of Loxley, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at Mercy Medical. She was 49 years old.
Mrs. Smith was a lifelong Baldwin County resident.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Jack Smith of Loxley; her mother, Vera Luverne Freeman of Robertsdale; a son, Richard Capers of Repton; a daughter, Casandra Capers of Loxley; two stepsons, Billy J. Smith Jr. of Georgiana and Raymond Smith of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Rose Smith of Summerdale and Kelly Smith of Greenville; two sisters, Leola Howard of Robertsdale and Vera Marie Hall of Summerdale; and two brothers, Willie Gene Hall of Loxley and James Edward Hall of Foley.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Baldwin Funeral Home in Gulf Shores. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Baldwin Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Elberta Community Cemetery in Elberta.

Anna S. Black
LILLIAN — Anna S. Black, a native of Baltimore and a resident of Lillian for more than 60 years, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999. She was 92.
She is survived by a son, Charles C. Bingle of Lillian; two daughters, Shirley S. Covert of Indiana and Josephine H. Allen of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held later. Cremation arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home and Crematory in Robertsdale.

Thomas L. Barnett
Thomas Lee Barnett, a retiree of Barnett Mill Works, died Thursday at a local hospital. He was 81.
Barnett was a lifelong resident of Mobile and a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche K. Barnett of Mobile; six children, Thomas H. Barnett of Florida, Frank M. Barnett, Jeffery L. Barnett and Elizabeth A. Abercrombie, all of Mobile, Ruth L. Warden of Grand Bay and Connie A. Mirabito of Birmingham; a brother, Charles E. Barnett of Mobile; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at Radney Funeral Home, with graveside services set for 2 p.m. in Pine Crest Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Olan E. Phillips Sr.
Olan Edwin Phillips Sr., a retiree of the International Longshoreman's Union, died Friday after battling cancer for several months. He was 84.
Phillips, a native of Coffee County, had lived in the Mobile area since 1940.
He had also retired from sales with local bakeries and more recently had worked at the Alabama State Docks.
He was an active member of Whistler United Methodist Church for the past 46 years, serving as a trustee for 40 years. He also served as chairman of the administrative council, a Sunday school teacher, choir member and president of the Men's Club.
He was honored with a lifetime membership certificate to Bowen Masonic Lodge No. 240 in Whistler.
Phillips enjoyed gardening until his illness prevented it.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Emily Lanelle Phillips; and five children, O. Edwin Phillips Jr. and Jeanie Phillips Hill, both of Mobile, J. Leo Phillips of Vicksburg, Miss., and Brenda Rains and Sharon Brunner, both of north Alabama.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. A service of praise and thanksgiving will be celebrated at Whistler United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Mobile Inner City Mission.

CLARKE COUNTY

Grady Dement Jr.
THOMASVILLE — Grady Dement Jr., who had worked as a pipe welder, died Thursday at his home. He was 54.
Dement was a Clarke County native and a resident of Thomasville.
Survivors include a son, Greg Dement of Thomasville; two daughters, Cassie Akridge and Nikki Dement, both of Thomasville; and a stepdaughter, Renae Williams of Thomasville; two brothers, Walter Dement of Thomasville and Leo Dement of Mobile; four sisters, Betty Jo Mercer of Mobile, Ruth Gaddy of Saraland, and Barbara Ann Lynn and Martha Ann Shoemaker, both of Thomasville; and four grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, with burial in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomasville.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY

Harold L. Turberville
ATMORE — Harold L. Turberville, who retired as business manager of Holman Prison after 22 years, died Friday at an Atmore hospital. He was 71.
Turberville, an Atmore resident, was a member of the World Wide Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Turberville of Atmore; and four sisters, Ida Belle Mashburn of Bay Minette, Marjorie Rankin of Mobile, Nan Gray Everette of Franklin, Ala., and Helen Rowell of Aliquipa, Pa.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville, Ala., where services are set for 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Eureka Baptist Cemetery in Finchburg, Ala.

James D. Hansen
ACWORTH, Ga. - James Daniel Hansen, a Mobile native and Acworth resident, died Friday. He was 52.
Hansen, a 13-year resident of Cobb County, was employed as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the state of Georgia and was an active member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the MG Sports Car Club.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Kay Hansen of Acworth; one daughter, Ashlee Danielle Sikorski of Dallas, Ga.; three sisters, Carolyn Newburn of Citronelle, and Suzanne Burnette and Robin Gray, both of Mobile; and one grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, Ga. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the New Beginnings United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2401, Kennesaw, GA, 30144.
