Herbert Hollar, 68, of Dayton, formerly of Greenfield, died
Wednesday night.
He was a retired employe of the National Cash Register Co.
Survivors include his wife, the former Foresta Caraway, four sons,
Bobby, Donnie and Ronnie (twins), and Larry, all of Dayton, a brother, John
Hollar, Lyndon Rt. 1, and two sisters, Mrs. Georgia Stout, Greenfield, and
Mrs. Bessie Carman, Centerfield.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Tobias
Funeral Home, Dayton.
Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Morris Chapel in Blue
Creek followed by burial in Blue Creek Cemetery.
NOLA BRINDLE MCFADDEN.
Nola Brindle McFadden of Lees Creek died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997,
at 114 Park St., Sabina.
She was born in Adams County, October 13, 1905, the daughter of
Pearl and Nettie Potts. She was raised from the age of 12 by Frank and
Addie Brindle and Will and Alma Brindle of Wilmington.
Mrs. McFadden graduated from Wilmington High School in 1925, and
from Wilmington College in 1930. She taught school in Yatesville,
Reesville, and Sabina.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Leescreek, and
Ladies Aid.
Mrs. McFadden is survived by two children, Roger (Helen) McFadden
of Sabina and Mary Ann (Sam) Moore of Leesburg; six grandchildren, Chari
(Mark Young of Dublin, Cathy (Tom) Stuck of Lancaster, Mike (Susan) McFadden
of Sabina, Matt (Steph) Moore and Julie (Randy) Mitchell of New Vienna, and
Steve (Teresa) Moore of Leesburg; 11 great-grandchildren, Adam and Sarah
Young, Tommy and Joey Stuck, Michael, Matt, and Steve McFadden, and
Christopher, Caitlynn, Jacob, and Jenna Moore; brother-in-law, Les and
Harriett Coberly of Columbus, Helen McFadden of Bloomingburg, and Lois
McFadden of London, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton McFadden.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997, at the
Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina. Burial will follow in the Centerville
Cemetery, Less Creek.

H. PAULINE ANDERS COKONOUGHER.
H. Pauline Anders Cokonougher, 68, of Westerville, formerly of
Holiday, Fla., died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997, at 8:30 a.m.
She was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Clinton County to George E. Anders
and Lydia Belle Jett. She was married to John H. Cokonougher, who preceded
her in death on Aug. 29, 1994. She attended the McKendree United Methodist
Church.
Mrs. Cokonougher is survived by three children, Glen M. Cokonougher
and Patricia Hollyday of Andover, N.J., and Steven (Judy) Cokonougher of
Westerville; six grandchildren, Mia Wagner of Greenfield, Steven Cokonougher
Jr. of Frankfort, Brian Cokonougher of Texas, Amie Fleck of Lewis Center,
and Jason Cokonougher of Westerville; six great-grandchildren; two brothers,
David J. Anders of Russells Point and Neville Anders of Holiday, Fla.; and a
special friend, Harold Eklow of Holiday, Fla.
She was preceeded in death by two sisters, five brothers, and an
infant son.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at Murray
Funeral Home, Greenfield, with the Rev. Sue Ellen Miller officiating.
Burial will follow in the South Salem Cemetery.

Elmer A. Hester, 68, 11325 Pearl st, Los Angeles, Calif., died
Monday at 4:30 a.m. in Santa Monica Hospital, Santa Monica, Calif.
Born Feb. 16, 1903 in Ross County, he was a son of David and
Mary Jane Grieves Hester. On May 28, 1930, he married the former Stella
Hobill, who survives.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hester is survived by a sister,
Bessie Seville, of Columbus.
He was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters.
Last rites will be read Friday at 2 p.m. in the Murray Funeral
Home with Rev. Noble Miller officiating. Interment
will be made in South
Salem Cemetery.

Debra Lynn Surber, 17, South Salem, died 8:45 p.m. Wednesday at
her residence of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Born June 15, 1959, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of
Ray V. and Mary Ellen Wagner Surber, of South Salem.
A junior at McClain High School, she was a member of the Friends
Church in Centerfield.
Surviving are her parents; her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ruth
Surber, Frankfort Rt. 2; her maternal grandfather, Ransom Wagner, Bainbridge
Rt. 1; a brother, Michael R. Surber, South Salem, and three sisters, Mrs.
Ted (Karen) Wheaton, Greenfield; Mrs. Don (Jean) Richards, Leesburg, and
Mrs. Rick (Brenda) Wagoner, Bainbridge.
Funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Murray's
Funeral Home, Greenfield. Rev. Frank Dunn will officiate and burial will be
in South Salem Cemetery.

Anna M. Schmidt, 85, South Salem, died noon Saturday in Greenfield
Manor.
Born Sept. 17, 1892, in Ross County, she was the daughter of
Zachariah and Mary E. Wisecup Cokonougher.
A member of the South Salem Methodist Church, Mrs. Schmidt was a
member of the United Methodist Women. She owned and operated a grocery
store in South Salem.
Her husband, John A. Schmidt, died July 22, 1962.
Surviving are two foster children, Mrs. Patty Leach, Middleport,
Ohio and Alvin Conaway, South Salem and six grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Six brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Murray's
Funeral Home, Greenfield. Rev. Tom Rogers will officiate and burial will be
in Greenfield Cemetery.

Age 76, died Sept 17, 1972 at a local hospital. He was born Sept. 15, 1896
in Paulding County, Ohio. A former employee of the Novo Engine Co. for 28
years and was the custodian at the North Street Church of the Nazarene for
15 years. Surviving are the wife Katherine N.; two daughters, Mrs. Paul
(Virginia) Ayers and Mrs. Charles (Ena) Mulford, both of Lansing; five
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. from the Gorsline-Runciman Lansing Chapel with Rev.
C. Kenneth Sparks from the North Street Church of the Nazarene officiating.
Interment
in Gunnisonville Cemetery.

Douglas A. Storts, 47, of SR 28, Leesburg died Tuesday, Sept. 2,
1997 at 6:45 a.m. at a residence in East Monroe.
Mr. Storts was born Oct. 1, 1949 in Greenfield, the son of Frank
and June (Perry) Storts. Survivors include his wife, Theresa (Terry) Miller
Storts, whom he married July 16, 1992.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, 1997
at the Murray Funeral Home, 380 Jefferson St., Greenfield. Burial will be
in the South Salem Cemetery in South Salem.

Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. by Father Ron Cooper.

Caleb Stapleton, 87, of Greenfield, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997,
at 6 a.m.
He was born Aug. 10, 1910, to William T. and Katherine Shelton
Stapleton, in Clay County, Ky.
Mr. Stapleton was formerly married to Marie Vickers Luck.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997, at the
Murray Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the Gilboa Cemetery,
new Petersburg.

COKONOUGHER.
Harry F. Cokonougher, 77, of 18 1/2 Mulligan rd, Athens, died
May 22 [1975] at O'Bleness Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Paulding
County, a son of the late William and Catherine Rayburn Cokonougher, and
formerly lived in Greenfield.
He and his wife owned and operated the Paramount Photo Studio in
Athens for 15 years prior to retirement due to ill health.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Crusie Cokonougher; two
daughters, Mrs. Edward (Betty) Mizicko of Athens and Mrs. Fred (Esther) Reif
of Apollo Beach, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Allen (Ethel) Brookover, Lyndon; one
half sister, Mrs. Don (Phyllis) Hess, Clarksburg; one half brother, Forest
Cokonougher, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren and four great
grandchildren.
Service was held Saturday, May 24, at Jagers and Sons Funeral
Home with the Rev. Danny Dahl officiating. Burial followed in Athens Memory
Gardens.

Roy C. Miller, 79, Lyndon Rt. 1, died Thursday at 7:05 p.m. in
Greenfield Municipal Hospital.
Born Oct. 3, 1889 in Ross county, he was a son of Thomas D. and
Alice Poole Miller.
He was a World War I veteran, and was a retired carpenter.
Service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Murray funeral
home. Interment
will be made in McDonald Cemetery, Lattaville.
The American Legion will accord military honors.
Mr. Miller is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ethel C. Toomey, Amelia
Rt. 2, and three nephews.
POMMERT.
Lilian C. Pommert, 83, of 1119 Jefferson st, Greenfield, died 9
a.m. Sept. 12 [1979] at Court House Manor in Washington C.H. of a lingering
illness.
She was born Aug. 15, 1896, in Highland County, the daughter of
James Adam and Amanda D. Taylor Armentrout.
Mrs. Pommert was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Her first husband, John Ellsworth Iseman, died in January 1924,
and her second husband, George Harrison Pommert, died in February 1943.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Marguerite Penn and Mrs.
William (Thelma) Coffey, both of Greenfield; three sons, George H. Pommert
of Washington C.H., John David Pommert of Joplin, Mo. and Charles Jacob
Pommert of Ft. Lee, Va.; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
One brother and three sisters preceded her in death.
Service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Murray's Funeral Home,
Greenfield, with Rev. Clarence Dinnen officiating and burial in Greenfield
Cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Yahn, 62, of 414 Spring st, Greenfield, died
4:05 p.m. Thursday at Fayette Memorial Hospital.
Born July 7, 1917, in Vincent county [?], she was the daughter of
Joseph and Zella Staten Price.
Mrs. Yahn was a retired employee of Candle-Lite in Leesburg, a
member of the Fruitdale United Methodist Church and the Greenfield Fishin'
Club. She was also an active CB'er (Known by the handle 'Lucky Lady') and
held membership in the Rocky Fork CB Club.
Survivors include her husband, Harold F. Yahn, whom she married
in November 1958; two stepchildren, Robert M. Barker of Washington C.H. and
Mrs. Barbara Derosa of Boston, Mass.; four grandchildren; and two sisters,
Mrs. Ollie Clark and Mrs. Neva Peoples, both of Wellston.
Two brothers preceded her in death.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Anderson-Strueve Funeral
Home, Greenfield, with Rev. Don Meadows officiating and burial in White Oak
Cemetery.

Miss Cathy Lou Mershon, 21, Hillsboro Rt. 1, died Wednesday at
6:10 a.m. in University Hospital, Columbus.
Born Jan. 24, 1951 in Greenfield, she was a daughter of Joseph
D. and Jean Ann Strobel Mershon, who survive.
She graduated from McClain High School in 1970, and was a member
of the United Brethern Church.
Surviving in addition to her parents is a sister, Connie Jo,
Hillsboro Rt. 1, and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Gladys Cowman, of
Greenfield.
Last rites will be read Friday at 2 p.m. in the Murray Funeral
Home. Rev. Robert Blaine will officiate, and burial will be made in Gilboa

He was a retired B&O Railroad employe.

and Rose Ellen Clark.

Minnie Alice Hester, 95, of Case Convalescent Center and
formerly of South Salem, died at 12:43 p.m. Sunday, June 1 in Fayette
Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness.
Born May 31, 1891 in Ross County, she was the daughter of James
Lawson and Addie May Hester Wilson.
A member of the South Salem Methodist Church and the South Salem
Garden Club and former postmistress at South Salem, Mrs. Hester was preceded
in death by her husband Harley E. Hester on June 18, 1956.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews and was preceded in
death by two brothers and a sister.
Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Murray's Funeral
Home with the Rev. Norman Beckwith officiating. Burial will be in South
Salem Cemetery.
