Eugene Lively
Eugene Lively, 86, of Dry Hill, Beckley, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at the Beckley VA Medical Center.
Born July 27, 1917, at Cranberry, he was the son of the late George and Lena Wilson Lively.
Mr. Lively was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor. He began working at the New River Coal Co. at Cranberry at an early age. He later worked at the Dr Pepper Co. and at Beckley Glass Co. for 20 years.
He retired from Pavex Inc., where he was an equipment operator.
He loved gardening, doing carpenter work, bluegrass music and spending time with his family whom he dearly loved.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmont and George Jr.; a sister, Wanda Schmidt; and his stepmother, Stella Smith Lively.
He is survived by his loving wife, Stella Evans Lively. They would have celebrated 67 years of marriage on Dec. 24.
He will also be greatly missed by two daughters, Betty Arthur of Prosperity and Alicia Cox and husband, Paul, of Medina, Ohio; four grandchildren, Keith Cox and wife, Susan, of Medina, Steve Arthur and wife, Lisa, of Prosperity, Greg Arthur and wife, Sherrie, of Charlotte, N.C., and Lori Aveni and husband, Scott, of Damascus, Md.; three brothers, Beaulis of Lenoir City, Tenn., Jimmy of Lexington, N.C., and Daniel of Cranberry; and a sister, Shirley Hawley of Maxwell Hill.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Fred Lovell officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Family and friends may call noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Herman E. Miller
BALLARD - Herman E. Miller, 86 of Ballard, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, in Springfield Center, Lindside.
Mr. Miller was a carpenter.
Born March 9, 1917, at Wikel, he was a son of the late David and Mattie Copeland Miller. Herman was raised by his aunt and uncle, Arthur and Ethel Underwood, following the death of his mother when he was 5 years old.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Miller.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Beulah E. Taylor Miller; a brother-in-law, J.J. Taylor of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Jessie Miller; two half sisters, Lillian Belcher and Neva Broyles; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with the Rev. Bob Bradley and Evangelist Roger Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Orchard Cemetery, Ballard.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Oley Morgan
BRENTON - Oley Morgan, 65, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, of a massive heart attack.
Born Aug. 16, 1938, at Indian Creek, Wyoming County, he was the son of the late Alex and Gertrude Lambert Morgan.
Oley was a retired coal miner, having worked at Island Creek Coal Co. at Wyoming and Robinson-Phillips Coal Co. at Marianna. He had a total of 32 years in and around the coal mines. He attended Brenton Baptist Church. He enjoyed working in his yard and his flower gardens and watching the hummingbirds in the summer. Oley loved his family and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Willie, Robert, Henry, Junior, Lacy and Herbert Morgan; and a sister, Gladys Fox.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Rita Webb Morgan; two daughters, Terri Hatfield and her husband, Brad, of Brenton and Cathy Browning and her husband, Paul, of Matheny; five grandchildren, Jonathan and Kayla Barber, both of Brenton, Steven Browning of Matheny, Christy Massie and her husband, Jason, of Brenton and Pfc. Michael Browning, MP, of Fort Leavenworth, Kan.; two great-granddaughters, Hailey and Hannah Massie, both of Brenton; a brother, Raymond Morgan of Colonial Beach, Va.; three sisters, Minnie Moody and Anna Lee Echard, both of Fanrock, and Pearl Rose of Salisbury, N.C.; and two special buddies, Don Adkins of Brenton and Bill Meadows of Beckley.
Oley will be sadly missed by his family, relatives and a host of friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Tommy Knotts officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Paul Browning, Don Adkins, Bill Meadows, Jason Massie, Jona-than Barber, Steven Browning and Russ Oney.

Harold Ralph Shuck
MOUNT HOPE - Harold Ralph Shuck, 49, of Mount Hope, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in Kentucky after a sudden illness.
Born March 17, 1954, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Roy Boone of Crab Orchard, and his adoptive parents, the late Ralph and Ester Lewis Shuck.
Mr. Shuck was a truck driver currently working for Priority Trucking Co., attended Harper Freedom Church at Eccles and was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by a son, Adam Lee Shuck.
Survivors include his stepmother, Nancy Boone of Crab Orchard; fianc�e, Kelly Masters of Mount Hope; three sons, Harold R. Shuck III and Luke Shuck, both of Shady Spring, and Joseph Shuck of Beckley; three daughters, Lisa Acevedo and Debbie Acevedo, both of Chicago, Ill., and Amanda Nicholas of Statesville, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Nancy Christine Spanner of Oak Hill; three brothers, Roy Boone Jr. of Winchester, Va., and Jerry Mullins and Keith Mullins, both of Concord, N.C.; three sisters, Patricia Boone of Ronceverte, Vickie Nash of Lewisburg and Sabrina Boone of Rock Hill, S.C.; and eight grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Harper Freedom Church, Route 3, Eccles, with the Rev. Billy Waddell Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church and one hour before service Saturday at the church.

ALDERSON - Ivy Lynn Dunbar, stillborn daughter of Benjamin and Heather Baker Dunbar of Alderson, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea.
She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandfather, Melvin Dunbar; and maternal great-grandfathers, Edward Baker Sr. and James Miller.
Surviving in addition to her parents are a brother, Garrett Dunbar of Alderson; paternal grandparents, Helen Trent of Union and Charles Rookstool of Union; maternal grandparents, Edward and Kathy Baker Jr. of Alderson; paternal great-grandparents, Donald and Louise Spangler of Union; maternal great-grandmothers, Reabel Miller of Alkol and Ann Baker of Wadsworth, Ohio; and aunts and uncles, Bridgette and Dwayne McClung, Katie Baker, Lisa and Jeffery Forren, Missy and Kyle Francis, Alan and Kayla Baker, Eddie and Susan Baker, Mike and Jode Payne, and Mark and Tonya Payne.
Graveside rites will be 2 p.m. Sunday at New Lebanon Cemetery, Pickaway, with the Rev. Chris Dunbar and the Rev. Don Trent officiating.

ROMNEY - Carmen Timothy Fitzpatrick, 57, formerly of Oak Hill, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 at his home.
Born Oct. 20, 1945, at Dothan, he was the son of the late Edgar and Beulah Buttrick Fitzpatrick.
Mr. Fitzpatrick was a retired assembly line worker with Ford Motor Co.
He is survived by a son, Clayton Fitzpatrick of Bakersfield, Calif.; a daughter, Connie Fitzpatrick of Bakersfield; three brothers, Gene Fitzpatrick of Michigan and Clarence Fitzpatrick and Walter Fitzpatrick, both of Oak Hill; four sisters, Ruth King of Kentucky, Kay Jaime of Kentucky, Delores Treadway of Red Oak, Ga., and Chris Bryant of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and a granddaughter, Chelsea May Fitzpatrick of Bakersfield.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Lum Toney officiating. Burial will follow in Fitzpatrick Cemetery, Dothan.

Jack L. James Sr.
Jack L. James Sr., 67, of North Sand Branch, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Me-morial Division.
Born Dec. 18, 1935, at North Sand Branch, he was the son of the late Emory and Anna Evans James.
Mr. James was a former employee of Sophia Electric and Gunter Electric. He attended Little Valley Baptist Church and Weirwood Community Church.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Duncan James; two sons, Jack L. James Jr. and wife, Karen, and Roger L. James and wife, Nancy, all of North Sand Branch; two grandsons, Jackie E. James and wife, Lisa, and Jason James, all of North Sand Branch; a granddaughter, Bobbie Sue Lyons of North Sand Branch; two great-granddaughters, Kelsie Jo James and Cierra Faith James, both of North Sand Branch.
He was a role model for his family and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Goldie Bowman Lambert
RURAL HALL, N.C. - Goldie Bowman Lambert, 83, formerly of Pineville, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Wytheville, Va., to the late Emmitt and Rosie Hawks Bowman.
Mrs. Lambert attended Pentecostal Church of God, retired from the Wyoming County Board of Education and enjoyed quilting and crafts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Frederick Lambert; two sons, Billy and Charles Lambert; a sister and two brothers.
Survivors include four sons, Russell Lambert of Alachua, Fla., Ronald Lambert and wife, Joyce, of Elmore, Ala., Thomas Lambert and wife, Shirley, of Glenville, Ga., and Kenneth Lambert of Indian Trail, N.C.; two daughters, Hazel Jackson and husband, Leroy, of Rural Hall and Kathy Cook and husband, John, of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sisters, Sylvia Steele of Brenton, Blanche Beverly of Newberry, Fla., and Thelma Leasure of White Plains, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville, with the Revs. Raymond Bishop and Tommy Knotts officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
The family will receive friends one hour before service Sunday at the funeral home.

Born Feb. 20, 1919, in Car-lisle, he was the son of the late Thomas Pate and Martha Rogers Pate.
Mr. Pate was a retired miner and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Moore Pate; children, Charles Thomas Pate Jr. and wife, Dana H., of Harlem Heights, Terry "Tally" Pate of Harlem Heights and Robert Pate of Coatesville, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Delonda Moore of Columbus, Ohio, and Juvetta Wallace of Wilmington, Del.; a stepson, Troy Lee Moore and wife, Gwendolyn, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Josephine Pate Chester and husband, Curtis, of Scott Depot and Christine Hobson and husband, Virgil, of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, Rosetta Swain and Loretta Pryor, both of Beckley; two brothers-in-law, Charles Moore of Beckley and James Moore and wife, Sally, of Mooresville, N.C.; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Abner Wright officiating.
Friends may call 2:30 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral parlor.

Cleo Margaret Yeager
OAK HILL - Cleo Margaret Yeager, 85, formerly of Page, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Mary's Garden at Hidden Valley in Oak Hill.
Born June 11, 1918, at Page, she was the daughter of the late George L. and Bettie Fleshman Yeager.
Ms. Yeager was a retired English teacher for Collins Junior High School in Oak Hill.
She was a member of Kincaid United Methodist Church where she was church pianist for over 65 years. She was also a member of the Retired School Employees, WVEA and United Methodist Women.
Ms. Yeager was a graduate of Montgomery High School and West Virginia Tech. She did graduate work at Duke University.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George Robert Yeager; and a sister, Julia McGinnes.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Cook of Beckley; a sister-in-law, Dora Yeager of Oak Hill; three nephews, George R. Yeager II of Florida, William J. Yeager of Florida and Andrew Kevin Cook of Gastonia, N.C.; a niece, Pamela Cook of Beckley; two great-nephews, Drew and Chris Cook of Gastonia; a great-niece, Tiffany Yeager of Beckley; and her friends and caregivers at the Summit where she had resided for the past three years and her caregivers at Mary's Garden.
Service will be 1 p.m. today at Kincaid United Methodist Church with the Rev. Arolette Stover officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call noon to 1 p.m. today at the church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Kincaid Methodist Church.
