Ralph H. “Nick” Barner, 80, of 1409 Cemetery St., Jersey Shore, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at ManorCare in Jersey Shore.
He was born in Sunbury, Aug. 25, 1921, a son of Gardner O. and Eva Shuman Barner.
He was a corporal with the U.S. Army during World War II.
On March 7, 1946, he married the former Rosie Halstead, who survives.
Private family funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, “A Life Celebration Home,” 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, with Pastor Richard D. Waters of the First United Methodist Church of Williamsport, officiating. Interment will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. His family suggests contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 71 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, Pa. 18701.

James R. Bookwalter
James R. Bookwalter, 71, of Lock Haven, died at the James VanZandt Veterans Hospital in Altoona, on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001.
He was born in Mt. Union on March 20, 1930, a son of the late Chester E. and Betty M. Estep Bookwalter.
On Nov. 28, 1958, he married Sally Tobin Bookwalter, who survives.
Funeral services will be in the Lock Haven Assembly of God Church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, with Pastor Wayne Hixon officiating. The family will receive friends in the church from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will take place at a later date at the family’s convenience. Donations are requested to the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association and the Gideon Society in his memory.
Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, is in charge of arrangements.

Donald E. ‘Donnie’ Bierly Sr.
Donald E. “Donnie” Bierly Sr., 78, of Box 48, Rebersburg, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in Centre Community Hospital, State College.
Born March 1, 1923 in Rebersburg, he was the son of the late Robert and Madeline Cable Bierly.
He was married to the former Maudella Rockey on Sept. 20, 1952. She survives.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 in the Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Rebersburg. The Rev. Karen Erskine Valentine will officiate. The family suggests memorials be sent to St. Peters Lutheran Church, Box 164, Rebersburg, Pa. 16872.

Linda L. Sipe
Linda L. Sipe, 53, of 505 Pine St., Williamsport, died early Saturday morning, Dec. 8, 2001 in Williamsport Hospital.
Born Jan. 5, 1948 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of John F. Packer and the former Eunice Wolford.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Harriet M. MacConel
Harriet M. MacConel, 74, a guest at ManorCare South in Williamsport for two and a half years, died there on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001. She was formerly of Jersey Shore and Albany, N.Y.
She was born May 25, 1927 in Avis, a daughter of Glenn and Ruth Kline Beatty.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, in the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, “A Life Celebration Home,” 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, with Rev. Michael Guiswite officiating. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Her family will provide the flowers. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 71 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, Pa. 18701.

Edward A. Engel Jr.
Edward A. Engel Jr., 80, died at ManorCare in Jersey Shore, Saturday morning, Dec. 8, 2001. He was formerly of 120 Wylie St., Jersey Shore.
He was born in Williamsport June 7, 1921, a son of Edward A. and Margaret Hoebner Engel Sr.
He married the former Dorothy English on Aug. 22, 1949. She survives.
Arrangements are being handled by Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, “A Life Celebration Home,” of Jersey Shore. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lycoming Unit, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, Pa. 17701.

Don B. Urquhart
Don B. Urquhart, 100, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in the ManorCare Heath Center in Jersey Shore.
Born March 21, 1901 in Douglas, New Brunswick, Canada, he was the son of James Urquhart and the former Hannah Atherton.
He retired from the former New York Central Railroad as a pipe fitter, after 46 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Martha Rayhorn.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. Keith Rockwell, his pastor, officiating. Burial was held in the Salladasburg Cemetery.

Nicholas R. Pinelli
Nicholas R. Pinelli, 5, of 221 E. Park St., Lock Haven, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, in the Lock Haven Hospital Emergency Room, as a result of an automobile accident.
Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Moriarty-Dutcavich Funeral Home, Lock Haven.

Jane H. DeRocher
Jane H. DeRocher, of Aurora, Ohio, died Nov. 27, at University Hospital.
Born in Pittsburgh, raised in Olean, N.Y. and Lock Haven, Jane graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in education.
In 1942, she married Henry DeRocher, he survives.

Vincent F. Peluso
Vincent F. Peluso, 85, of Arbutus Drive, Lock Haven, died Friday, Dec. 7 at his home.
Born July 25, 1916 in Blackwell, he was the son of Dominic Peluso and the former Minnie Dagnese. He was united in marriage on March 25, 1941 to the former Mamie L. Brooks. She preceded him in death March 11, 1998.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11 in the Church of St. Luke, 120 Kendall Ave., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday evening in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Father Andrew Hvozdovic will officiate.

Russell H. Holdren Jr.
Russell H. Holdren Jr., 78, of Tylersville, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001 in the extended care unit of Lock Haven Hospital.
Born Jan. 1, 1923 in Nippenose Valley, he was the son of Russell H. Holdren Sr. and the former Margaret I. Shaffer. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen M. Andrews, who he married on March 15, 1941 in Lock Haven.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001 in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, Main and Water streets, Loganton. Friends may call from 11 a.m. Monday until the time of services in the funeral home. The Rev. Nancy Kuhns will officiate. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Tylersville at the convenience of the family. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Sun Home Health Services, Box 232 Northumberland, PA, 17857.

Madelyn V. Oakes
Madelyn V. Oakes, 80, of 507 Church St., Mill Hall, died Dec. 6, 2001, at her home.
Born Feb. 8, 1921 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Naomi Duerr Jackman.
She was married to Clarence E. Oakes on Sept. 28, 1940 in Salona. He survives.
Funeral services will be Dec. 8, 2001, at 11 a.m., in the Mill Hall Church of Christ. Her pastor, Rev. James H. Redmon, will officiate. Entombment will be in Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Mill Hall. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St., Mill Hall, and one hour prior to services at the church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the VNA Health Systems Hospice, the American Diabetes Association or the Mill Hall Church of Christ, through the funeral home.

Harry A. Rice, 81, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001 at ManorCare South in Williamsport. He was formerly of Nichols Run.
He was born in Watson Township, Aug. 17, 1920, a son of Albert and Emma Riggle Rice.
He married Alma Wensel, who died June 3, 1984.
Funeral services will 10 a.m., Saturday, at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, “A Life Celebration Home,” 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery.

Uriah C. Kitchen Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Uriah C. Kitchen Jr., 73, of Camden, Del., on Nov. 29, at Holy Cross Church, Dover, Del. Burial will full military honors was held at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Kitchen was born in 1928 in Beech Creek, the son of Uriah and Della Kitchen.
His wife, Loreto, survives.

Madelyn V. Oakes, 80, of 507 Church St., Mill Hall, died Dec. 6, 2001, at her home.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, Mill Hall.

Calvin A. Lloyd, 77, of 516 Park Ave., Woolrich, died Dec. 3, 2001, in his home.
Born April 9, 1924 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Charles and Annie Phillips Lloyd.
He was married to Alice M. Gotschall Lloyd on April 24, 1954. She survives.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at 2 p.m., in the Covenant United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James VanZandt officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Central Pennsylvania Chapter, National Railway Historical Society, or the Covenant United Methodist Church.

Wilbur R. Snyder
Wilbur R. Snyder, 88, of Mountain View Estates, Avis, who died Saturday, Dec., 1, 2001, at home, is survived by his wife, the former Ellen E. Klinefelter.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Jersey Shore Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaufman Funeral Home, Williamsport, and one hour prior to services Thursday.

Paul Thomas Brown, 21, of 440 Farwell Ave., Renovo, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 at the Hershey Medical Center in Hershey.
He was born March 30, 1980 in Lock Haven, the son of Paul E. and Lennea Fantaski Brown, who survive at home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held today, Dec. 3, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Renovo, with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Hyner. Rev. Father Donald Boslett was celebrant.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lodge, 125 Lucy Ave., Hummelstown, Pa. 17036, or through the funeral home.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St., Mill Hall.

Wilbur R. Snyder
Wilbur R. Snyder, 88, of Mountain View Estates, Avis, died Saturday, Dec., 1, 2001, at home.
Born May 7, 1913 in Mill Hall, he was a son of Aley and Lenora Myers Snyder.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ellen E. Klinefelder. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Sept. 6, she survives.
Friends may call at the Kaufman Funeral Home, 2102 Northway Road, Williamsport, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Sharon L. Smith
Sharon L. (Entz) Smith, 52, of Illinois, formerly of Beech Creek, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001.
Born July 29, 1949 in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of the late William C. and Helen M. (Wilt) Entz.
She married Bill M. Smith on July 29, 1987. He survives.
Memorial contributions may be made to all Saints Lutheran Church, 5800 State Park Road, Foxlake, Ill. 60020.

Virgil V. Beahm
Virgil Victor Beahm, 64, of Rineyville, Ky., died Wednesday, in Kentucky.
He was a native of Aaronsburg, and is survived by his wife, Oma Dell. Services were held Saturday in Kentucky.

George Paul Lachat, 89, of Park Avenue, Woolrich, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 at his home.
Born May 18, 1912 in Avis, he was the son of George L. Lachat and the former Amanda DeLafontain.
He was united in marriage in 1947 to the former Edith Morse. She preceded him in death in 1970.
Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at 10 a.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 9 a.m. Monday until the time of services in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. The Rev. Norman Evans, his pastor, will officiate.

Robert A. Weise
Robert A. Weise, 84, of Vongunden Road, Lock Haven, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 in the Lock Haven Hospital’s Extended Care Unit.
He was born Sept. 6, 1917 in Farrandsville, the son of the late Christen and Sarah McCloskey Weise.
He married the former Laura I. Shawley on Nov. 10, 1940. They just recently observed their 61st wedding anniversary. She survives.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 3, at 10:30 a.m. in the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Boulevard, Mill Hall, with the Rev. Marie Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Swissdale United Methodist Church, 21 Hickory Drive, Lock Haven, Pa. 17745.

Jay B. Raser
Jay B. Raser, 71, of Miller Lane, Lock Haven, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001 at his home.
Born March 19, 1930 in Phoenixville, he was the son of the late Harry and Vela Swearer Raser.
He married the former Pauline R. Ayres on Nov. 13, 1965. They just recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary. She survives at home.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, is in charge of arrangements.

Jean S. Horn
Jean S. Horn, 57, of 2220 Route 287 Highway, Jersey Shore, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 at her residence of a lengthy illness.
Born March 4, 1944 in Jersey Shore, she was the daughter of Ira and Jessamine Thomas Heyd.
She married John D. Horn on April 10, 1965. He survives.
Graveside services will be held in Summit Cemetery, White Pine, on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 10:30 a.m. There also will be a memorial service Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Salladasburg United Methodist Church with her pastor Rev. Thomas J. Fetterolf officiating.
In keeping with her wishes, any contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of The Salladasburg United Methodist Church, Box 404, Salladasburg, Pa. 17740. The Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home “A Life Celebration Home” of Jersey Shore is handling arrangements.

Wendell E. Englert
Wendell E. Englert, 63, of Lock Haven, formerly of Farrandsville, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001 in Lock Haven Hospital ICU.
Born Sept. 2, 1938 in Lock Haven, he was a son of the late Roy and Grace Braucht Englert.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. in the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with Pastor Stan Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.

Mabel V. Jeirles Watkins
Mabel V. Jeirles Watkins, 85, of 100 N. Hampton St., Lock Haven, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 in Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care.
Born March 8, 1916 in Beech Creek, she was a daughter of Elmer and Emma Scantlin Peters.
She was married to Walter Jeirles, who died in 1962, and Roy Watkins, who died in 1975.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Flemington, with Rev. Jeffrey Bayliff officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in Salladasburg Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.

George R. Page, 44, of 419 Fourth St., Renovo, died Nov. 28, 2001, in the Susque-View Home.
Born Aug. 21, 1957 in Renovo, he was the son of Catherine Cook Page, who survives in Renovo, and the late Luther R. Page.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at the Christian Community Church, South Renovo. Arrangements are entrusted to the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St., Mill Hall.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to his church through the funeral home.

Margaret J. Lindsay
Margaret J. Lindsay, 80, of 14 Middle St., Mill Hall, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Lock Haven Hospital.
Born Dec. 3, 1920 in Buffalo, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late William A. and Mary L. Behen Moehlau.
Her husband, Donald A. Lindsay, preceded her in death in 1976.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at 1 p.m., in the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Flemington. Father Neil Dadey will officiate. Burial will be in Blanchard Baptist Cemetery. Friends will be received from noon until the time of services Saturday.

Reed T. Miller Jr., 81, of 9 Locust Lane, Lock Haven, died Nov. 27, 2001, in Lock Haven Hospital.
Born Oct. 24, 1920 in Tyrone, he was the son of the late Reed T. Miller Sr. and Dorothy M. Reed.
He was married to Janet A. Rossman Miller on May 17, 1941. She survives.
Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 30, at 10 a.m., in the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Flemington. Interment will be in Grand View Cemetery, Tyrone. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
