RUTH DAVIDSON BICKFORD
Mrs. Ruth Davidson Bickford, age 88, a native of St. Louis, Mo. and a resident of Spanish Fort, Ala. for the past eight years, died in Spanish Fort, Ala. on Monday, December 6, 1999.
Mrs. Bickford was a former resident of Mobile, Ala. and a resident of Pensacola for 10 years. She was employed with the Brookley Air Force Base, Mobile, Ala. and retired from the CNET staff at Pensacola Naval Air Station. After retirement Mrs. Bickford moved back to Mobile, Ala. and work at the Bellingrath Gardens Home.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Bickford (John) Lee of Mobile, Ala. and Nancy B. (Tommy) Grantham of Pensacola; one brother, George Davidson of Grover City, Calif.; four grandchildren, John R. Lee, Jeff S. Lee, both of Mobile, Ala., Todd R. Grantham and Christopher S. Grantham, both of Pensacola; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum at Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile, Ala. on Wednesday, December 8, 1999 at 3 p.m.
Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum at Pine Crest Cemetery.

INEZ FINKLEA
Inez Finklea, 79, of Cantonment, died Friday, December 3, 1999, at a local hospital following a brief illness.
Inez Finklea was a native of Evergreen, Ala. and resided in Cantonment for the past 55 years.
Survivors include three sons, Willie Berry of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Ronald Finklea and James Finklea, both of Cantonment; one daughter, Igean Jeffries of Cantonment; one brother, James Berry of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Connie James of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Ruby Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio; best friend, Teresa Fountain; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services at 12 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 1999 at Greater First Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Dailey, pastor of Greater First Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery.

VAN HAWKINS
Van Hawkins, 53, of Pensacola, died Sunday, December 5, 1999.
A native of Waco, Texas, Van has been a Pensacola resident since 1971.
Van is survived by three sons, Richard V. Hawkins and Daniel L. Hawkins, both of Pensacola and Abraham M. Hawkins of Springfield, Mo.; a daughters, Angela G. Hawkins, also of Pensacola; two brothers, Hillary Hawkins and Robert Hawkins; three sisters, Brenda Hawkins, Carolyn Hawkins and Sally Bingham, all of Texas; and three grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 1999 at Barrancas National Cemetery.

WILLIAM HARRY HAYS
William Harry Hays, 86, a Gainesville resident and Pensacola native, died Saturday, December 4, 1999, at a hospital in Green Cove Springs, Fla.
He was born August 2, 1913 in Bay Point, Fla. and was raised in Pensacola. He was a charter member of Gadsden St. Methodist Church along with the rest of his family.
He served as a Chief with the Navy Seabees in North Africa in WWII.
In 1945 he established W.H. HAYS PLUMBING AND HEATING which he operated until his retirement in 1973.
After retirement he moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., to be near his only daughter, where he lived for a number of years before relocating to Port Richey, Fla. and later to Gainesville, Fla., where he was residing at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Cook Hays, a daughter, Linda Hays Johnson, a granddaughter, Dana Johnson Leach, and two great-granddaughters, Savannah Nicole and Shelbi Richel Leach, all of Gainesville; and a brother, James B. Hays and sister, Elizabeth Hays Hoefflin, both of Pensacola.
Graveside services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 1999, at Milton Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Rhodes, pastor of Gadsden Street United Methodist Church, officiating.

OPAL A. ``GRANDMA'' HENDLEY
Mrs. Opal A. ``Grandma'' Hendley, age 88, of Pensacola, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, December 7, 1999, in a local nursing facility.
Grandma Hendley was born October 22, 1911 in Akron, Ohio. She was a charter member of the West Akron Church of Christ.
Mrs. Hendley is survived by two children, son, Jack E. Wallace and daughter, Elizabeth Ann Hoover; three grandchildren, Deborah K. Howard, Matthew Scott Wallace, and Michelle E. Hoover; and two great-grandchildren, Caleb J. Howard and Jordan Howard.
FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 100 Beverly Pkwy, is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call at the Faith Chapel Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Mrs. Hendley will be taken to the Fairlawn Funeral Home in Akron, Ohio for services and burial in the Greenlawn Memorial Park.

RANDALL NORTON HEYEN
Randall Norton Heyen, 40, of Pace, died Sunday, December 5, 1999, at a local hospital.
Randy was a graduate of Pensacola High School, where he played in the band and also attended Pensacola Junior College. He had worked as an LPN.
He is survived by his mother, Melba Norton Heyen and father, James K. Heyen; two brothers, James K. Heyen, Jr. and Barnard P. Heyen; one sister, Marcel H. Chavers; and numerous other relatives.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 1999 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Jack W. Murray, III officiating.

MELVIE Z. SEALS HOUSE
Mrs. Melvie Z. Seals House, 66, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 1999, in Walnut Hill.
Mrs. House had been a resident of Walnut Hill for the past 50 years and was a former resident of Pine Orchard. She was an employee of Vanity Fair for the past 35 years and a member of the Antioch Freewill Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, William J. ``Bill'' Seals and Douglas House.
Survivors include her son, Johnny Michael and Becky Seals of Walnut Hill; five daughters, Sheila and Carl Lee of Century, Janice Marie and Ronald Hall of Brewton, Ala., Donna Jean and Donald Jordan of Atmore, Ala., Lisa Laurie and Matt Hadley of Walnut Hill and Evelyn Sheree and Gary Presley of Atmore, Ala.; a sister, Evelyn Parker of Cantonment; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 9, 1999 at 10 a.m. at the Atmore Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Porter officiating.
Burial will follow at the Pine Orchard Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Shane Seals, Joey McGugin, Bryan Jordan, Bert Porter, Bobby Porter and Gilbert Hall.

JAMES MICHAEL ``MIKE'' LYTTLE
James Michael ``Mike'' Lyttle, born March 30, 1953 in Key West, Fla., died Saturday, December 4, 1999.
He was a long time resident of Pensacola where he attended high school.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his parents, William and Betty Lyttle; brothers, Don and Rusty Lyttle; sisters, Elizabeth Stabler, Yvonne Cohen, and Tina Lyttle; and other loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, December 10, 1999 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Funeral Home, Pensacola.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Mike's name.

VERA HART OLSEN
Vera Hart Olsen, 84, of Pensacola, died Monday, December 6, 1999.
Our loving mother and mere was a native of Gainestown, Ala. and moved from Mobile, Ala to Pensacola 21 years ago. She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church.
Her husband of 57 years, Robert N. Olsen, preceded Mrs. Olsen in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Dolores Daniels (and husband Von); one grandson, Gary Daniels (and wife Wendy); two great- grandchildren, Brandi and Stephen Daniels.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 1999, in Eastern Gate Funeral Home with Father Michael J. Flynn officiating.
Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery.

Katie M. Shearer, 86, of Pensacola, died Sunday, December 5, 1999, at a local retirement center.
Born in Covington County, Ala., she moved to Howey-in-the- Hills, Fla. in 1966 from Alexandria, Va. She was a Baptist by faith. She was a founding member of the Mt. Dora Art League and was an accomplished artist, having won many awards in Virginia and Lake County Shows.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Annie Bell McLean of Ft. Walton Beach; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services 10 a.m. Friday, December 10, 1999 at Taylor Memorial Cemetery in Howey- in-the-Hills, Fla.

Gary A. Stewart, 48, of Milton, passed away Sunday morning, December 5, 1999.

FRANCES BRYANT WATERS
Frances Bryant Waters, 43, of Stockbridge, Ga., died Saturday, December 4, 1999, in Stockbridge.
Mrs. Waters was a native and long time resident of Pensacola. Mrs. Waters was a graduate of Woodham High School and was employed in the legal profession in Pensacola.
Mrs. Waters was preceded in death by her father, Leroy Bryant.
Survivors include her husband, Neil R. Waters, Jr.; son, Neil R. Waters, III; daughter, Hannah Victoria; daughters by marriage, Kelly L. Waters, Sharin M. Waters and Tracie M. Waters; mother, Marguerite Schiller Bryant; brother Leroy Cardenas.
Memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 1999 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Pastor Chuck Randle officiating.

ROBERT L. BAKER
Robert L. Baker, 61, of Milton, died Monday, December 6, 1999, at a local hospital.
Mr. Baker was born in Stockton, Kansas on November 8, 1938. He was a member of Bagdad United Methodist Church & choir and the United Methodist Men. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer on November 16, 1976. He served on the USS NOA, and the USS Hawkins. He retired from civil service, NADAP, NAS Pensacola in April of 1994. He received numerous awards and medals during his career in the Navy as well as civil service. He was a graduate of UWF with a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara E. Baker; six daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and John Connell, Roberta and Kearney Hacker, Mary and Tony Champitto, Joyce Paglia, Catherine and Gary Morgan, and Christina Thorsen; two sons and daughter-in-law, Greg Thorsen and Tim and Lisa Thorsen; sister, Phyllis Hood; and 20 grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 10, 1999 at Bagdad United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Henry Pooley officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Richard Crowl, Barry Cox, Cecil Pendleton, Clayton Fullerton, Lamar Whitaker and Richard Thorsen.

ELVIS (GRICE) BLANCHARD
Elvis (Grice) Blanchard, 81, of Pensacola, died Sunday, December 5, 1999 at a local hospital.
Elvis Erma (Grice) Blanchard, born November 29, 1918, to the Union of the late George G. Price, Sr. and Rebecca Rials Grice. She was married to Paul L. Blanchard in 1947. She was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Washington High School, Pensacola, and Central State College, Wilberforce, Ohio. She possessed an outstanding vocal talent, for which she won many musical honors. She retired as a teacher from the Cleveland, Ohio Board of Education.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Gigi Grice; two sisters, Harriet Combs and Kessel Jamison. Survivors include her husband, Paul L. Blanchard of Pensacola; sister, Valerie Claiborne of Pensacola; brother, Thomas (Sylvia) Grice of Trenton, N.J.; brothers-in-law, Cecil Blanchard of Cleveland, Ohio, Clifton Blanchard of San Francisco, Calif. and the Rev. Francis Claiborne of Pensacola; cousins, Lois Christian and Jean Knight, both of Pensacola; and many loving nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral services 12:30 p.m. Friday, December 10, 1999, at Joe Morris and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. R. Otey, of First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

BRANDON MONROE CARLISLE
Brandon Monroe Carlisle, 19 of Pace died suddenly Tuesday evening.
Brandon was born in Pensacola and had lived in Pace all his life.
Survivors include his parents, Janice and Bruce Carlisle; his brother, Ashley Carlisle; his two sisters, Lauren Carlisle and Melissa Johnson; maternal grandmother, Edwina Walsingham, paternal grandmother, Chizuko Carlisle; maternal great-grandmother, Idell McKeithen; nephew, Colton Brown and several other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday from the chapel of the Donnie Sowell Funeral Home in Milton. Rev. Kevin Goza will officiate with interment in the Memory Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

EVERETTE ``BUDDY'' COOPER
Everette ``Buddy'' Cooper, 76, of Pensacola, died Tuesday, December 7, 1999, at his residence.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Buddy had been a resident of Pensacola since 1954. He served in the Army during WWII and later worked as an electrician for Monsanto. Buddy was a member of Pensacola First Alliance Church and has served for many years as an elder and a trustee.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Frances; daughter, Sondra Lea Cooper Solice and her husband Stephen of Pensacola; two grandchildren, Kyle ``Buddy'' Shirley, Jr., and Jenna Lea Solice; and a sister, Shirley Bloom of Farmington, Mo. Mr. Cooper is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a host of loved ones.
Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. graveside, Thursday, December 9, 1999 at Barrancas National Cemetery with the Rev. Herbert Woerner, of Pensacola Christian Missionary Alliance Church, officiating.

DOROTHY L. MORRIS
Dorothy L. Morris, 76, of Pensacola, died Saturday, December 4, 1999 in a local hospital in Temple Hills, Maryland.
She was a retired school teacher from Wayne County. She is preceded in death by her son, Richard Morris; and granddaughter, Princess Russell.
Survivors include one son, Prince A. Morris of Temple Hills, MD; two grandsons, Marcus (Tonya) Morris and Detrick (Angelique) Morris, both of Pensacola, FL; one granddaughter, Pia (Nero) Foster; four great grandsons; a daughter-in-law, Delores Morris; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday at Joe Morris and Son Funeral Home with Rev. C.E. Salter, pastor of First Corinthian Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery.

MARIE HARDY RHODEN
Marie Hardy Rhoden, 73, of Pensacola, died Saturday, December 4, 1999.
Mrs. Rhoden was born to the late Mr. & Mrs. Grover Hardy on September 20, 1926. She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church. She united in holy matrimony to the late Rev. John Rhoden, and through this union they were blessed with fourteen children.
Mrs. Rhoden was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John Rhoden and son, Chester Green.
She leaves to cherish her memories thirteen children, John W. (Betty) Rhoden, Margaret (Calvin) McCreary, David (Christine) Green, Jr., Lester (Amburs) Green, Linda (Robert) Wylie, Bell Rhoden, Joesephus (Betty) Rhoden, Amos (Jeannie) Rhoden, Emma Austin, Luetta (Mitchell) Harris, Matthew (Dorothy) Rhoden, Barbara Colston, & Samuel (Veronica) Rhoden; five sisters, Lucille NewKirk, Lela (Bob) Lett, Louise Ferguson, Mamie Baldwin, & Emma (David) Williams; two brothers, Grover (Jessie) Hardy & Ernest (Ima Lee) Hardy; 35 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; & a host of relatives & friends.

EVA WILLENA JOHNSON- SAFFOLD
Eva Willena Johnson-Saffold, 86, of Pensacola, died Saturday, December 4, 1999, at a local hospital, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Saffold was born in old Warrington, Fla. on July 4, 1913. She was the daughter of the late William and Orelia Johnson. She attended the public schools in Pensacola and was a past employee of Barge and Reeds Funeral Home. She was the mother of one son, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include a brother, Charles (Barbara) Johnson of Pensacola; three sisters, Delores Johnson, Artavena Thompson, and Evelyn T. (Herman) Walker; a granddaughter, Linda (David) Mobley; seven grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren; eight great- great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services at 1 p.m. Friday, December 10, 1999 at Reeds Chapel with Pastor James H. Miller, Sr., pastor of First Baptist Church of Warrington, officiating.
Burial will be in Resthaven Garden Cemetery.

DAVID LEE SHELBY
David Lee Shelby, 61, of Pensacola, died Monday, December 6, 1999.
Mr. Shelby was a native and lifelong resident of Pensacola. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 50 years. He was a member of Escambia Masonic Lodge #15 and the Scottish Rite. He retired as a Lieutenant from the City of Pensacola Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Shelby.
Survivors include his wife, Sue A. Shelby; mother, Helen Shelby; daughter, Leigh Shelby; step- daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Don Marlin; sister and brother-in-law, Mavis and Louis Rosetti; a grandson, Micah Shelby Noyes; a niece, Jennifer Kirchharr; and a nephew, Robert Libbey.
Services at 1 p.m. Friday, December 10, 1999 at Harper-Morris Chapel with Dr. Henry E. Roberts officiating.
Burial will be in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

CLARA BELL SIMMONS
Clara Bell Simmons, 69 of Pensacola, died Friday, December 3, 1999 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Simmons was a long time resident of Pensacola, FL. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Walker; son, Charlie Simmons, Jr. both of Pensacola; and a host of grandchildren; and great- grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday at Resthaven Gardens Cementerywith Irene Pitts officiating.
JOE MORRIS AND SON FUNERAL HOME, is in charge of arrangements.

RICHARD FERGUSON UEBELACKER
Richard Ferguson Uebelacker, 57, of Memphis, Tenn., died Sunday, December 5, 1999, at a Tennessee hospital, after suffering a stroke.
Mr. Uebelacker was president of Hart Furniture, Collier Ville, Tenn.
Mr. Uebelacker is the husband of Denise Flowers Uebelacker. He is survived by a daughter, Haley Uebelacker; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Bradford Uebelacker and Sally Uebelacker; grandchildren, Annie and Lilly, all of Memphis, Tenn.; mother, Margarite Ferguson Uebelacker of Pensacola; three sisters, Susan Soule of Pensacola, Kim Smith of Virginia Beach, Va., and Ruth Carpinella of West Palm Beach, Fla; as well as cousins, Mary Lou Moore, Glenna Ferguson, Jack Ferguson, and Michael Ferguson.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, December 7, 1999 at 2 p.m. at St. George Episcopal Church, Memphis, Tenn.
CANALE FUNERAL DIRECTORS is in charge of arrangements.
