Gladys Bea Hess
Gladys Bea Hess, 79, of Oakwood, died Feb. 23 in a Bristol, TN, hospital.
Born Feb. 12, 1927 in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Harve and Stella Cook Ratliff.
A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of the Rowe Free Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was formerly the co-owner and operator of S & R Cleaners.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Fay Crow and Ola Gay Lester, and one brother, H.C. Ratliff.
Survivors: son, Harless Wayne Hess and wife, Norma Jean, of Marvin; sisters, Shirley Sykes and Geneva Constantine, both of Florida, Janette Addison of Marvin, Katie Anderson of Dry Fork; brothers, Earl Ratliff and Claude Ratliff, both of Mt. Heron; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Troy Street and Rev. Ancil Childress officiating.
Interment followed in the Ratliff Cemetery on Young’s Branch.

Edna Ann Clifton Horn
Edna Ann Clifton Horn, 85, of Maxwell, went home to be with the Lord Feb. 21 at a Richlands hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Ellis and Vicie Vandyke Clifton.
She had made her home in Buchanan County where she operated a small country store while raising her family before moving to Tazewell County in 1976. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was a member of the Cedar Bluff Community Church at Claypool Hill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sandra Kay Horn; one grandson, Jonathan Eric Horn; one brother, Walter Clifton; and five sisters, Cassie Irene Horn, Stella Addison, Callie Keen, Donna McClure and Lucinda Horn.
Survivors: husband of 64 years, Henry Edward Horn; sons, Paul Horn and wife, Shirley, of Pounding Mill, James Horn and wife, Ruth, of Grundy, Bill Horn and wife, Sandra, of Cedar Bluff; daughters, Dewanda Horn of Maxwell, Lorraine Duty and husband, Charles, of Grundy, Darlene Bowling and husband, Ray, of Richlands; brothers, Bruce Clifton and wife, Betty, of Bear, DE, Ellis Clifton and wife, Edna, of North Tazewell; sisters, Mae Price and husband, Bill, of Wilmington, NC, Hettie Krazeswski and husband, Hank, of Bear, Mona Biddle of New Castle, DE, Myrtle McGhee of Pounding Mill; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Additional survivors: her loving caregiver, Wilma Settle of Pounding Mill; special sister-in-law, Virgie Matney of Doran; special friends, Curt and Margie Smith of Richlands, Roger Childress of North Tazewell, Kerry and Mary Collins of Maxwell; and a host of family and friends.
The funeral was conducted Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Pastors Richard Smith and Walter Rowe officiating.
Interment followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill.

Nancy Carol Meadows Jaques
Nancy Carol Meadows Jaques, 71, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 21.
She was born in Richlands and lived in Springfield, OH for 55 years. She attended the Methodist Church in Richlands and was a 1951 graduate of Richlands High School. She was drum majorette in the RHS band.
She served as a secretary at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. She was a minister of the Home of Prayer Church and attended the Christ Chapel of Springfield. She also was a mentor in Alcoholics Anonymous. Her passion for life was her relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, a deep love for her family and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with those within her community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Virginia Meadows.
Survivors: husband of 38 years, Leroy S. Jaques; daughters, Kimberly Lee Shaffer and Suzanne Lough of Springfield, OH; stepchildren, Joe and David Jaques and Faye Marsh of Springfield; grandchildren, Joshua and Shawn Dewell and Zachery and Kaitlyn Lough; two great grandchildren; sisters, Billie Jean Tichenor and Diane Webster and their families of California.
The funeral was conducted Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Jackson Lytle Williams Funeral Home in Springfield, with the Rev. Gregory Browning officiating.
Burial followed in Terre Haute Cemetery.

Helen Hess Jones
Helen Hess Jones, 80, of King, went to be with her Lord and Savior Feb. 25 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born Aug. 4, 1925 in Russell County, to the late Luther Frazier and the late Bertha Ray Hess.
She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church where she accepted the Lord as her Savior many years ago. She was formerly employed at Warren’s Drug Store in Rural Hall. She loved quilting, canning and doll collecting. Her quilts had won several ribbons at community events. Though her earthly rewards were few "Our Mom" raised nine children and was the glue that held the home together. She will be missed everyday.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Jones, Sr.; one son, Paul J. "Jack" Jones, Jr.; one grandson, Robert Jones; and several sisters and brothers.
Survivors: children, Wanda Jones of the home, Bobby (Eunice) Jones, Jerry Jones, Larry (Joyce) Jones, Janice (Howard) Jones Hamm, all of King, Ronnie Lee (Connie) Jones of Rural Hall, Ricky Jones of Walkertown and Carol Hayes of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Keith Jones, Tyna Dodson, David Hayes, Lisa and Paula, Amy Mabe, Ben, Tommy, Jessica, John, Suzy and Ronnie Jr., Jones, Dusty and Carla Hamm, Ashley Jones and Staci Jones; 18 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and sisters, Olaf Taylor and Peggy Bailey of Akron, OH, Lou Horton of Raven, and Juanita Meade of Richlands.
Rev. R. Zeno Groce and Rev. Tim Gammons conducted funeral services Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. at Woodland Baptist Church.
Burial followed at Rural Hall Memorial Park in Rural Hall.

Donnie Lee Lowe
Donnie Lee Lowe, 55, of the Baptist Valley section of Cedar Bluff, died Feb. 21 at a Tazewell hospital following a sudden illness.
Born in Richlands, he was the son of the late Raymond and Geneva Ball Lowe, both Tazewell County natives.
He had made his home in the Baptist Valley area all of his life and was a retired miner for Island Creek Coal Corporation V.P. #6 and Consolidated Coal Corporation V.P. #8. He was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of 1969 and former President and Field Rep of District #28 of UMWA. He had just retired from six years of service as the Western District representative for the Board of Supervisors of Tazewell County.
He was a member of UMWA Local #2232 Oakwood, Casey Shortt VFW Post #9640 Richlands, Vietnam Veterans of America Blue-Gray Chapter #628 of Princeton, WV, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran having been decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Bronze Star.
Survivors: wife, Alma Alsbrook Lowe; daughter, Donita Presnell and husband, Jeff, of Johnson City, TN; sons, Travis Lowe and wife, Jessi, of Roper, NC, Chad Lowe of the home; sister, Phyllis Dotson of Bristol, VA; brothers, Jerry Lowe and wife, Sharon, and Gary Lowe and wife, Jennifer, all of Cedar Bluff; and grandchildren, Bree Presnell and Graci Lowe.
Graveside services were conducted Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill with the Rev. Preston Mathena officiating.
Interment followed. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 conducted military graveside rites.

Walter Carlos Musick
Walter Carlos Musick, 75, of the New Garden Road section of Honaker, died Feb. 27 at his home.
Born Dec. 4, 1930 in Russell County, he was a son of the late Marvin and Hazel Hart Musick.
A lifelong resident of the area, he was a United States Army veteran, having served in the 8th Engineer Division during the Korean War. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with Island Creek #1 and a member of UMWA Local 1509.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, and one sister, Fern Buckland.
Survivors: wife, Doris Cook Musick; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Stephen Raines of Girard, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Walter Douglas "Clyde" and Drema Musick of Honaker; and grandchildren, David Raines of St.Louis, MO, and Ronald Musick and Kim Musick, both of Honaker.
The funeral will be conducted Mar. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Stephen Musick, Bro. Mason Raines, and Rev. Jeff Kinder officiating.
Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.

Jerry Richardson
Jerry Richardson, 54, of Wytheville, formerly of Swords Creek, died Feb. 26 at his home following a lengthy illness.
Born May 29, 1951 in Richlands, he was the son of Delora Sisk Richardson of Swords Creek and the late Dailey Edward Richardson.
He was owner and operator of Wildcat Coal, R & R Coal, J & A Mining, Freda Coal and P & R Coal.
Additional survivors: wife, Patty Deel Richardson; son, Jerry Allen Richardson of Cedar Bluff; daughters, Freda Austin and husband, Scott, of Sitka, KY, and Renee' Fields and husband, Jack, of Cedar Bluff; brothers, Ed Richardson of Swords Creek, Fred Richardson and wife, Wanda, of Rosedale, Rev. Jim Richardson and wife, Shirley, of Swords Creek, Tom Richardson and wife, Pam, of Honaker; sisters, Mrs. James (Lillian) Miller, Mrs. Leonard (Zeola) Hubbard, and Mrs. Danny (Ellen) Dye, all of Swords Creek, Linda Richardson of Richlands, Mrs. Cecil (Margaret) Dye of Rosedale; grandchildren, Destini Stiltner, Jacquelyn Fields, Brittany Fields, Shania Fields, Samantha Richardson, Brandon Richardson, Katelyn Richardson; and step grandchildren, Josh and Kimberly Austin.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Mar. 1 at Pine Creek Holiness Church in Swords Creek with Rev. Carl Robinson and Rev. Don Stanley officiating.
Burial will follow in the Richardson Family Cemetery at Horton Ridge.

Phyllis Hale Smith
Phyllis Hale Smith, 72, of Anderson, SC, wife of Roy L. Smith, Ed. D, died Feb. 25 at her residence.
Born in Grundy, Mar. 4, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Larkin Hale and the late Martha Kaiser Hale.
She was a retired educator and a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Anderson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lacie J. and Billy M. Hale.
Survivors: husband, Roy L. Smith, Ed. D; daughters, Kristina S. Thomas of Seneca, SC, Jennifer S. Latto of Spartanburg, SC; brother, Carnese Hale of Honea Path, SC; sisters, Virginia Taylor of Anderson, Lucille Wohlford of Blacksburg; and grandchildren, Megan Hale Thomas and Elias Avery Latto.
The funeral was held in the Chapel of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Anderson Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. officiated by Dr. William R. Childs.
Entombment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The McDougald Funeral Home, in Anderson, was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Hunsaker Street
Ruth Hunsaker Street, 89, of Grundy, died Feb. 24 at the Clinch Valley Medical Center, Richlands, following an extended illness.
Born Aug. 30, 1916, in Norton, she was a daughter of the late William and Lillian Hunsaker.
She graduated from Lynch, KY, High School. After high school, she served as an Army W.A.C. during World War II. After the war, she married Clarence who resided in Grundy. Together, they owned and operated Grundy Credit Jewelers for many years. She was a long time member of Grundy Baptist Church, Grundy Woman’s Club and the Buchanan County Friends of the Library. She was an avid fan of college football and was partial to the southern teams and any team playing against the University of Notre Dame.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Street; one brother, Nelson Hunsaker; and one sister, Clarice Staley.
Survivors: daughter, Carmen Gayle Street White and husband, Joe, of Grundy; grandson, Austin White and wife, Linda, of Richmond; great-granddaughter, Katie White of Richmond; sister, Faye Pobst of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. at the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands, with Rev. Howell Scott officiating.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to the Buchanan County Public Library.
Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy was in charge of all arrangements.

Dorothy Cox Turner
Dorothy Cox Turner, 75, of North Tazewell, died Feb. 21 at a Bristol hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Ida Kelley Robinson.
She had made her home at North Tazewell for about 33 years. She was a homemaker, loving mother and loving grandmother. She was of the Assembly of God faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Graham Cox; her second husband, Kelly W. Turner; one daughter, Lois Ann Cox; two sons, Kenneth Junior Cox and Roger Lee Cox; two brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors: daughter, Barbara Patrick and husband, Whitney, of North Tazewell; sisters, Nina Naillon of North Tazewell, Reba Stinson of Belfast; grandchildren, Kevin Cox, Julie Cox and Eric Cox, all of the home, and Dawn Patrick, Tara Patrick Lowe of North Tazewell; and great grandchildren, Hannah Cox, Andrew Cox, Tyler Cox and Lane Austin Lowe.
The funeral was conducted Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel of Tazewell with Rev. Max Linkous officiating.
Interment followed at Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, VA.

Joyce Ann Whited
Joyce Ann Miller Whited, 51, of Swords Creek, died Feb. 23 in a Roanoke hospital.
Born July 12, 1954 in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of the late Harley "Penny" Miller and Ruby Perkins Miller.
She was a lifelong resident of the area.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Stacey Dawn Shortt, and one brother, Ricky Miller.
Survivors: husband, Dallas Whited; son, Terry Lynn Perkins of Pine Creek; twin daughter, Tracey Denise Dye and her husband, Tim, of the home; daughter-in-law, Michele Bryant; step-son, Christopher Whited and wife, Brandy, of Council; step-daughters, Donna Keen and husband, Paul Keen, Jr., of Horton Ridge, Cassandra Whited of Big A Mountain; brothers, Jerry Miller and wife, Dorothy, and Doug Miller, all of Swords Creek, Dean Miller and wife, Sandy, of Honaker, Raymond Miller and wife, Connie, of Maple Gap; grandchildren, Derek Levi Perkins, Kristian Shortt, and Deven Eli Martin; step-grandchildren, Amanda Keen, Branna Keen, Diamond Whited, Morgan Keen, and Damian Whited; mother-in-law, Evey Prophet; and several nieces and nephews.

Bobby Joe Whitt
Bobby Joe Whitt, 64, of Cedar Bluff, died Feb. 25 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, following a long illness.
Born in Tazewell County, he was the son of the late Arlie Clinton and Beulah Joyce Whitt.
He was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was a retired coal miner. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and had formerly taught mining classes at Southwest Virginia Community College. He was a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Food Pantry.
Survivors: wife, Christine Overbay Whitt; son, Stephen Whitt and Tonya, of Knoxville, TN; daughters, Leslie Mountain and husband, Nathan, of Rutledge, TN, Joetta Whalen of Pounding Mill, Charlene Altizer of Myrtle Beach, SC, Beth Whitt of Lebanon; sisters, Elsie Whitt of Cedar Bluff, Octave Ball of Graham, NC; and granddaughter, Heather Whalen.
The funeral was conducted Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. at the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Richlands with Rev. Jim Denton, Rev. Jay Overbay and Rev. Stafford Compton officiating.
Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Ezra Barton
Ezra Barton, 73, of Hansonville, died Mar. 5 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born Feb. 11, 1933 in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Walker and Maggie Hess Barton.
He had spent most of his life in the area and was of the Holiness faith. He was a retired coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, Gary Glenn Barton; two brothers, Fred Barton and Simmie Barton; and two sisters, Myrtle Presley and Marie Kiser.
Survivors: wife of 53 years, Sarah Barton; daughters, Linda Bailey and husband, Jackie Fields, of Hansonville, Bonnie Tuggle and husband, Billy, of Lebanon; son, James Barton, Sr. and wife, Vickie, of Wardensville, WV; sisters, Julie Harr of Heath, OH, Helen Eppley and husband, Ted, of Thornville, OH; brother, Estil Barton of Manassas; granddaughters, Sherri Bailey, Amy Clark and husband, Carlos, Dannette Miller and husband, Darryl, Maranda Barton and boyfriend, Christopher, and Patricia Keen and boyfriend and caregiver, Buck; grandsons, James Barton, Jr. and girlfriend, Cynthia, and Joshua Barton and girlfriend, Natasha; great-granddaughters, Kassaundra Keen, Serenity Barton, Shannon Barton, Madison Barton, and Emiley Clark; and several nieces and nephews.

Garland Billips
Garland Billips, 65, of the Mudfork area of Bluefield, VA, died Feb. 26 at the home of his sister, Beulah Bryant in Bluefield, WV.
Born Mar. 20, 1940 in Tazewell County, he was a son of the late Augustus Billips and Mary Belle Bostic Billips.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Isabelle Sluss Billips; one sister, Sarah Jane McBride; and two brothers, Marvin "Red" Billips and Douglas M. "Mac" Billips.
Survivors: daughter, Brenda Earp of Springville; sons, James Billips and David Billips, both of Asheboro, NC; sister, Beulah B. Bryant of Bluefield, WV; brothers, Samuel A. Billips of Springville, Walter J. Billips of North Tazewell; and grandchildren, Ian Billips, Mary Billips, Courtney Billips, and Jannie Billips.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Mar. 1 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with Johnny Elmore officiating.
Burial followed at the Billips Family Cemetery at Mudfork.

Aileen Altizer Brown
Aileen Altizer Brown, 76, of Pilgrims Knob, died Mar. 2 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.
Born May 3, 1929 at Amonate, she was the daughter of the late Samuel (Slick) and Essie Altizer.
She was born as Aileen Altizer but was known to family and friends as Al.
She attended Garden High School and was later inducted into the Garden High School Hall of Fame for her outstanding contribution to girls basketball.
She spent her life as a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Brown, and two brothers, Willis Altizer and Wade Altizer.
She left behind a son, Jeff, and daughter-in-law, Glenna, from Richlands and her most precious gifts ever, granddaughter Ally and grandson Corey, which were the light of her life.
She will be sorely missed by her brothers and sisters, Sam Altizer of Abingdon; Tootsie Matney and husband, Raymond, of Oakwood, JoAnn Johnson and Peggy Webb and husband, Johnny, all of Keen Mountain, Janie Coleman and husband, Roger, of Deel; brother-in-law, Hurtle Brown of Ocala, FL; and sister-in-law, Rethal Brown of Pilgrims Knob. She was blessed with loving nieces and nephews not to mention selfless neighbors who she considered part of her family.
A celebration of her life was held Mar. 4 at 1 p.m. at Buchanan Funeral Home in Keen Mountain with Minister Chris Webb officiating.
Burial followed in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands.

Leonard W. Brown, Jr.
Leonard W. Brown, Jr., 55, of Richlands, died Mar. 2 at his home following a brief illness.
Born in Grundy, he was the son of the late Leonard W. Brown, Sr. and Celia Mae Coleman Brown, both Buchanan County natives.
He was a graduate of Grundy Senior High Class of 1968. He attended SVCC and received an Associates Degree in Mining Technology. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. He worked for CNX Gas Corporation of Claypool Hill as a drilling and construction foreman. He was a member of the Planning Commission for the Town of Richlands and in his spare time he was a realtor for Fortune Realty.
Survivors: son, Leonard W. Brown, III and wife, Virna, of Planesville, MA; sister, Sondra K. Brown of Bristol, TN; brother, Gary W. Brown and wife, Nadine, of Bristol, TN; and grandchildren, Courtney and Kayla Brown
The funeral was conducted Mar. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands.
Entombment followed at Greenhills Memory Gardens located at Claypool Hill.
Military graveside services were conducted by the members of the Casey-Short VFW Post 9640.

Cecil Casey
Cecil Casey, 80, of the Robinson Ridge section of Swords Creek, died Mar. 6 in a Richlands hospital.
Born Sept. 4, 1925 in Pine Creek, he was a son of the late Ezra Lincous and Bertha Dye Casey.
A lifelong resident of the area, he was a retired equipment operator with Virginia Department of Transportation. A World War II veteran having served in the United States Army 90th Division during the Normandy Invasion, he received a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, and a European Occupation Metal. He was a member of the American Legion #208, the VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, the 90th Division Association, and a past member of the Odd Fellows.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Casey; two brothers, Garnett Casey and Jim Casey; and three sisters, Eula Casey, Evelyn Warner and Mary Ellen Jackson.
Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Brian and LaDon Casey of Castlewood; sisters, Viola Warner of Richmond, Lena Helton of Cleveland; brothers, Ed Casey and George Casey, both of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Mar. 9 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Dennis White, Rev. Woody Scott, and Rev. Ralph Bostic officiating.
Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Military graveside honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon.

James Carlos Chambers
James Carlos Chambers, 79, of North Tazewell, went to be with the Lord Mar. 3.
Born Feb. 16, 1927 in Raven, he was a son of the late Don Carlos Chambers and Mary Bowers Chambers.
He was a member of the Adria Advent Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Pearl Ianuzzi, Helen Poff, and Nannie Mae Flanagin, and two brothers, Dewey Chambers and George Chambers.
Survivors: wife, Ruth Bowling Chambers; son, James L. Chambers of North Tazewell; three granddaughters; one great grandson; brothers, Andrew Chambers and wife, Joyce, and Donald Chambers and wife, Janice, all of North Tazewell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Mar. 6 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Don Elswick officiating.
Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.

Lorren B. Combs
Lorren B. Combs, 53, of Davenport, died Feb. 28 in a Richlands hospital.
Born Jan. 26, 1953 in Davenport, she was a daughter of Ines Sullivan Ball of Davenport and the late Roy Ball.
A lifelong resident of the area, she was of the Holiness faith. She was a 1972 graduate of Council High School.
Additional survivors: husband, Randall Combs; step-sons, Mark Combs and wife, Angela, and Matthew Combs, all of Council, Barry Combs and wife, Jennifer, of Waterloo, IA; sisters, Wilma Sue Greene and Pauline Austin and husband, Donnie, all of Davenport, her twin sister, Adeline Presley and husband, Harvey Loman, of Rosedale, Betty Louise Compton and husband, Ronnie, of Grundy, Lena Marie Presley of Lebanon; four step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Mar. 2 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating.
Interment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.

Shirley Jean Delaney
Shirley Jean (Mitchell) Delaney "Shelbie", 67, of Roanoke, died Mar. 1 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born Apr. 18, 1938 in Richlands.
She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends. She will forever be in our hearts.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert K. Delaney, and father, Paul W. Mitchell.
Survivors: family include daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Paul Winrod, Terry Hart, Tammy and Denver Delaney and Melanie and Eric Wimmer; mother, Ella Jones of Troy MI; brothers, Doug Mitchell and wife, Vera, of Troy, Pete Mitchell of Richlands; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Mar. 2 at 7 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Salem.
A service was held Mar. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel in Columbus, OH.
Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Franklin D. Goss
Franklin D. Goss, 70, of Cedar Bluff, died Mar. 3 in a Richlands hospital.
He was born in Virginia and was a son of the late John Luther and Rebecca Jewell Goss.
He had made his home in the Richlands area all of his life and was a former coal miner for Pittston Coal and a member of UMWA Local #7327 Jewell Valley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Jerry, and John L. Goss, Jr.
Survivors: wife, Sonja Moore Goss; daughter, Peggy Horne and husband, Randy, of Richlands; sons, Franklin D. Goss, Jr. of Cedar Bluff, Chris Goss and wife, Lisa, of Panama City, FL; brother, Robert Goss of Bland; eight grandchildren, Jessica Goss, Cindy Goss, Amy Queen, Joseph Horne, Ryan Goss, Guindalyn Goss, Kenny Height and Eleisia Height; and great grandchildren, Gray McClellan Queen and Addy-Lane Queen.
The funeral was conducted Mar. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Max Linkous and Rev. Jerry Casey officiating.
Interment followed at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill.

Theodore "Ted" Hall
Theodore Ray "Ted" Hall, 77, of Archdale, NC, died Feb. 28 at a VA Hospital in Salisbury, NC.
Born Nov. 6, 1928 in Falls Mills, he was the son of the late Ernest H. and Lillian Ethel Simmons Hall.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was formerly employed as a mechanic for Thompson Chevrolet in Thomasville, NC. He was a member of the VFW in North Carolina and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Hall Jr. and Warren Lee Hall; and one sister, Mary Alice Clark.
Survivors: wife of 49 years, Valma Sue Chisgar Hall; daughter, Deadra Weston of High Point, NC; brother, Frankie Hall and wife, Bonnie, of Falls Mills; sisters, Peggy Walk and husband, Bob, of Bluefield, VA, Barbara Ann Nelson of Ocala, FL; and grandchildren, Joel, Nicholas and Jenna Weston of High Point.
The funeral was conducted Mar. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, VA with the Rev. Russell Hatfield officiating.
Burial followed in the Harry Cemetery in Falls Mills.
