Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home's Carleton location, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Max Schuster, pastor of Newport Community Church, Newport, will officiate. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park, Huron Township.
Surviving are her husband; four sons, William H. III of Carleton, Daniel G. II of Carleton, Donald L. of Deputy, Ind. and David A. of Onsted; a daughter, Michele C. White of Milan; two brothers, Robert of California and Jay of Gladwin; a sister, Yvette Straub of Wayne; nine grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

ERIE - Marjorie McKinley, 77, of Erie died Oct. 28 is Harborside Healthcare Center, Point Place, Ohio. She had been ill for years.
Cremation has occurred. No services are planned. Bennett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Born Feb. 12, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of Charles and Martha (Hall) Kimberly. She married John McKinley on June 20, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio. She and her husband were the owners and operators of Lotus Harbor Marina.
Surviving are her husband; a son John C. of Erie, and a granddaughter.

Evelyn Eyler
Feb. 6, 1923-Nov. 3, 2000
ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Evelyn Eyler, 77, of Asheville, N.C., formerly of Monroe and Milan, died Friday morning at St. Joseph Hospital, Asheville, N. C..
Cremation has occurred. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Asheville. Another memorial service is being planned for Williams Cemetery, Tazewell, Tenn.
Born Feb. 6, 1923, in Fork Ridge, Tenn., she was the daughter of Joshua Hill and Bessie (Brewer) Goin. She married Horace Williams on March 8, 1940, in Tazewell, Tenn. They lived in Monroe and they had been married 24 years when he died in 1964. In 1976, she married Gerald Wayne Eyler of Milan, and they lived their for 16 years until his death in 1992. She then moved to Asheville.
Surviving are three daughters, Carol Ledford of Asheville, Linda Bakhit and Brenda Farrell both of Texas; three stepchildren, 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

IDA - Services have been set for Bobby Jill Dembinski, 50, of Ida, who died at 1:25 p.m. Friday in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. She had been ill with cancer since 1989 and had been in the hospital since Monday.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Capaul Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Przybysz of St. Hedwig Catholic Church, Toledo, and Rev. John LaCasse of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Cremation will follow.
Born May 24, 1950 in Fostoria, Ohio, she was the daughter of Dale S. and Ila Marie (Hunker) Dick. She married Mark Dembinski on March 27, 1978 in St. Hedwig Catholic Church.
She worked as a registered nurse for the Lucas County (Ohio) Health Department for eight years, retiring this year due to her illness. She also worked for 10 years for H&R Block as a tax preparer.
She graduated in 1972 with the last class of the Maumee Valley Nursing School and had a master's degree in nursing. She was a member of the Ohio Nurses Association and received that group's Golden Lamp Award in 1996. She was a past treasurer of Ida Troop 538 of the Boy Scouts of America and past treasurer of Helping Hands of Monroe Inc. and St. Hedwig Catholic Church.
Surviving are her parents; her husband; a son, Peter, at home; a daughter, Victoria Dembinski, at home; a brother, David Lynn of Florida; and a sister, Mrs. Cindy (Richard) Smith of Maryland.

James Vernon Penney

FLAT ROCK - Services have been set for James Vernon Penney, 74, of Flat Rock, who died Friday.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home Inc., where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. Frederick Misiolek of St. Roch Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park, Huron Township.
Born Aug. 7, 1926 in Kansas City, Kan., he was the son of James Burns and Mary Louise (McClain) Penney. He married Jean C. Cicchelli on Oct. 19, 1946 in St. Gregory Catholic Church, Detroit.
He was a hydraulic lab technician for P.S.I. Hydraulics in Livonia, retiring in 1988. He served in the Navy during World War II and was known as a professional putterer who loved his family and jazz. He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church. He lived in Flat Rock for 46 years.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Jerry (Connie) of Negaunee, Thomas (Karen) of Brownstown, and David (P.J.) of Livonia; two daughters, Christine Penney and Nancy (Steven) Ernest, both of Flat Rock; a brother, David P. Murphy of Florida; 16 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Jessie M. Bedford

Services have been set for Jessie M. Bedford, 75, of Monroe, who died at 10:38 p.m. Thursday at Mercy Memorial Hospital emergency room. She had been in poor health for several years.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Earle Little Funeral Home, Bacarella Chapel, where a family wake service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. She will lie in state from noon until services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Second Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Carl J. Curry, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
Born Oct. 2, 1925, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., she was the daughter of Samuel and Cora (Madison) Johnson. She married Fred D. Bedford Jan. 9, 1961, in Toledo.
She had worked for 20 years for Monroe's former Gould Battery and for four years for Ford Motor Co.'s Monroe plant, retiring in 1971.
She came to Monroe from Tuscaloosa in 1948 and was a member of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Second Missionary Baptist Church, Willing Workers, Nurses Guild and the former Tuscan Lodge 27, Order of the Eastern Star and its Golden Circle. She graduated from Industrial High School, Tuscaloosa.
Surviving are her husband and a brother, Willie of Monroe.

Lee Jay (Couch) Cousino

TOLEDO - Lee Jay (Couch) Cousino, 21, of Toledo, whose father once lived in Monroe County, died Sunday morning in Medical College of Ohio Hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, Temperance, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Donald Brewer, pastor of Augsberg Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Erie.
Surviving are his parents, Joseph F. and Cheryl A. of Toledo; a brother; a sister, and three grandparents, including Lorraine (Cousino) Crawford of Monroe.

ROCKWOOD - Neal H. Daniels, 81, of Rockwood died Sunday in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Monroe. He had been ill for three weeks.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 tonight and from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Ford Chapel of Allore-Martenson Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Larry Head, pastor of Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church, Newport, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, South Rockwood.
Surviving are his wife, Fay; four daughters, Nokomus Skidmore of Brownstown Township, Barbara (Ray) Fuson of Rockwood, Rhonda (Richard) Collins of Monroe and Judy Daniels; a brother, Ulyess of Harrogate, Tenn.; a sister, Beulah Brown of Harrogate; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Dr. Charles E. Black
Dr. Charles E. Black, a longtime Monroe obstetrician-gynecologist who helped bring thousands into the world in a practice that spanned more than 40 years, died at 7:50 p.m. Saturday in Mercy Memorial Nursing Center. He was 78.
He had been in the nursing center for several weeks and had been in poor health for five years.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Earle Little Funeral Home, Bacarella Chapel. He will lie in state from 10 a.m. until services at 11 Wednesday in St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jacqueline Holdsworth will officiate. Monroe Post 1138, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will conduct graveside military services at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
Surviving are three sons, Theo (Nancy) of Minnetonka, Minn., Timothy (Marilyn) of Paradise Valley, Ariz., and Daniel A. of Newport; three daughters, Beverly (Phillip) Curran of Houston, Patricia (John) Cunningham of Bloomfield Hills, and Jennifer M. Black of Monroe; three brothers, Thomas A. of Munster, Ind., Eugene W. of Hot Springs, Ark., and John L. of Lowell, Ind.; 10 grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.

MAYBEE - Eila (Heldt) Rothman, 86, of Maybee died Saturday at Arbor Hospice, Ann Arbor.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 tonight, from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. Wednesday until 1 p.m. services at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan. The Rev. Michael Clemmer, pastor of London United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in London Cemetery, London Township.
Surviving are two sons, George (Gladys) and Aaron (Leta), both of Dundee; a daughter, Beverly of Wayne; 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Jerry A. Martin, 56, of Bowling Green died Friday in Toledo Hospital, Toledo. Two of his children live in Monroe.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Minnie Ann Weiss Custer, 88, of Las Cruces, formerly of Monroe, died Sunday in Mesilla Valley Hospice.
Cremation will take place. Private services will be held in Las Cruces, under the direction of Graham Mortuary and Mesilla Valley Crematory. Burial will be in Custer Memorial Place at Woodland Cemetery, Monroe.
Surviving are two sons, Richard (Myrtlerose) on Monterey, Calif. and Thomas (Trish) of Las Cruces; two daughters, Darcia (John) Salopek and Elizabeth (Bob) Stout, both of Las Cruces; five grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Velva J. Smith

Surviving are his wife, Daniela; two sons, Steven and Brian; a daughter, Debra; a brother, Richard of Monroe, and three grandchildren.

HURON TOWNSHIP - Philomena Marie Klaes, 93, of Huron Township died Monday at Marycrest Manor, Livonia.

Officiating will be Dr. Matthew Collins, Dr. Kohler's son-in-law and pastor of Sandy Springs Christian Church in Atlanta, Ga.; Dr. Alan Hanson of Samaritan Counseling Center of Toledo, and Dr. Michael Jenkins, pastor of Sylvania First United Methodist Church.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the center at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery on the Motherhouse campus. Rupp Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

DUNDEE - Dennis K. (Mo) Motylinski, 53, of Dundee died Tuesday morning in Veterans Home, Grand Rapids.

Services will be held at 9:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maybee. The Rev. Michael Malawy, pastor of the church, will offiicate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, where graveside military services will be conducted by Dundee Veterans Group.
