Urban W. Westrick
Died: Wednesday, April 17, 2002
Urban W. Westrick, 79, of Lakeview, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at his son's residence in Maria Stein, Ohio.
He was born April 28, 1922 in Leipsic, to Adam and Margaret (Faber) Westrick, both of whom are deceased.
On August 24, 1946, he married Mary Jane Burkhart, who survives.
Other survivors include two sons: Wayne (Kathy) Westrick of Ottawa and Keith (Sheila) Westrick of Maria Stein; five grandchildren: Eric, Adam, Matthew, Stephanie and Dawn; three great-grandchildren: Maidge, Alex and Ashton; and a sister, Edna Okuley of New Bavaria, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Lynn; two brothers: Leo and Albert; and by a sister, Viola.
Mr. Westrick was a former salesman and manager of Harvey Equipment in Lima. He retired from Streakers of Minster and was also a farmer.
He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII, having served in the 8th and 15th Air Force. He participated in 50 combat missions over Germany and the European Theatre, and received the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster.
He was a member of the St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Russells Point. He was a life member of the Ada VFW Post 9381, and he was a past Commander from 1976-77 and 1977-78. He was a charter member of the New Bavaria, Ohio VFW. He was a member of the Father Anthony Wolf Council #4378 Knights of Columbus, Russells Point, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3615, Lakeview.
Services were held Saturday, April 20 at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Russells Point, with Father Anthony J. Geraci officiating.
Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, Russells Point, and/or St. Rita's Hospice, Lima.
Funeral home in charge of arrangements was Van Horn Funeral Home, Lakeview, and condolences may be expressed online at www.vanhornfuneralhome.com.

Maida Ruth Wolff
Died: Sunday, April 14, 2002
Maida Ruth Wolff, 67, of Troy, Pennsylvania and formerly of Ada area, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at the Bradford County Manor, West Burlington, PA.
She was born September 20, 1934 in New York, New York, to Alpha and Ruth (Clark) Wolff. Her mother died June 6, 1977 and her father survives in Towanda, Pennsylvania.
Other survivors include five cousins: Beulah (Ralph) Hays of Ada, Zona Wyss of Ada, Helen Ludwig of Ada, Mary Alice (Fred) Wintzer of Wapakoneta, and Grace Harnley of Plymouth, Ohio.
Public graveside services were held on Monday, April 22, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada, with Pastor Thomas Dearth officiating.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.
Funeral home in charge of arrangements was Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.

Katherine Hall Eagy
Died: Friday, April 12, 2002
Katherine Hall Eagy, 79, of Lima, died Friday, April 12, 2002 at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima.
She was born March 7, 1923 in Prestonburg, Kentucky, to Lee and Eva (Bays) Hall. Lee Hall and Eva (Bays) Clyde are both deceased.
On December 16, 1999, she married Vernon O. Eagy, who survives in Lima.
Other survivors include a sister, Gladys Roberts of Warsaw, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by two infant sisters, and a sister, Dolly Erwin.
Mrs. Eagy was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post #1275 of Lima. She was also a member of the Military Order of the Cooties Lima Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #96 of Lima. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary Post #370 of Lima and a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Moose Lodge Post #1533 of Indian Lake.
Private services will be held at a later date. Funeral home in charge of arrangements is Hanson-Neely Funeral Home of Ada.

John Daniel Seitz
Died: Thursday, April 11, 2002
John Daniel Seitz, 82, of Wapakoneta, died Thursday, April 11, 2002 at his residence.
He was born March 9, 1920 in Putnam County, to John D. and Nellie (Reynolds) Seitz, Sr., both of whom are deceased.
On June 10, 1944, he married Anna Frances Billie Bentley, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Other survivors include a daughter, Teresa Anne Tass (Rick) Bice of Wapakoneta; two sisters: Ruth Shirey of Lima and Marjorie Sindel of Delta, Ohio; three grandchildren: Daniel T. (Amie) Bice of Wapakoneta, Julianna (Tony) Green of Lima, and Ricky Bice of Cridersville; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Mae Seitz, Helen Chester, and Lucille Hedges.
Mr. Seitz was a graduate of Kalida High School class of 1939, attended Ohio Northern University College of Civil Engineering and was in the construction business for 50 years. Early on he worked for the State Highway Department and private contractors. He worked on the Ohio Turnpike from the beginning of the project until completion. Later he was supervisor on construction expansions for L&K Enterprises, Marion; Ohio Northern University, Ada; Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima; and Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay, from which he retired in 1985. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 157 of Kenton; the Eagles Erie 370 of Lima and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, with Rev. Peter Chiodo celebrant.
There will be no public visitation.

Arrangements are by Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.

Glenda M. Beltz
Died: Tuesday, April 9, 2002
Glenda M. Beltz, 77, of Carrollton, Georgia and formerly of Ada, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton, Georgia.
She was born January 19, 1925 in Lincoln, Nebraska, and was the adopted daughter of Eleanor Reese, who is deceased.
On January 21, 1944, she married LeRoy D. Beltz, who died January 14, 1986.
Survivors include three sons: Glen Duane Beltz of Las Vegas, NV, David Scott (Susan) Beltz of Waco, GA, and Keith Stuart Beltz of Baton Rouge, LA; a daughter, Judith Ann Beltz of LaPorte, IN; and a granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Beltz of Waco, GA.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Beltz was a homemaker and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a former member of the First Christian Church of Gainesville, Florida.
Services were held Monday, April 15 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.
Memorial contributions may be made to the LeRoy D. Beltz and Glenda R. Beltz Memorial Scholarship Fund at Ohio Northern University.

Howard T. Amey
Died: Monday, April 8, 2002
Howard T. Amey, 75, of Lakeview, died Monday, April 8, 2002 at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus.
He was born September 17, 1926 in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, to Arthur L. and Alwildah (Travis) Amey, both of whom are deceased.
He married Genevieve Merritt Ream, who passed away. He then married Colleen Gwen Vance on April 20, 1973 and she survives in Lakeview.
Other survivors include three daughters: Pam (Frank) Grubb of Romeo, Mich., Kyle Hall of Sacramento, Calif., and Katrina (Brian) Pierce of Browns Valley, Calif.; two sons: Steven Amey of Galt, Calif., and Kent (Debbie) Amey of Bellefontaine; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister: Judy Mason of West Newton, Ohio; and three brothers: Niles (Betty) Amey of Defiance, Art (Gloria) Amey of St. Marcos, Texas, and Richard (Linda) Amey of Tavares, Florida.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Hall.
Mr. Amey was a carpenter out of Local 372, Lima, and Local 1393, Toledo. After graduating from Ada High School in 1944, he entered the Navy and served on the USS Wadleigh DD689. He was a member of the Eagles #471 in Delphos; the Doyle R. Miller Amvets Post #39 in Lakeview; the VFW Post #8832 in Roundhead; the Harold Kerr American Legion Post #173 in Bellefontaine; and the Logan County Fish and Game Club. He was also a councilman of Lakeview, Ohio for many years.
He shared with his family a love of camping, fishing, hunting and playing euchre, and he was an active member of several bowling teams. He was fun-loving, witty and will be missed by many.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, April 11 at Van Horn Funeral Home in Lakeview with Pastor Jeffrey Bartlett officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Robert E. Rock ,Jr.
Died: Monday, April 8, 2002
Robert E. Rock Jr., 38, of Alger and formerly of Forest, died Monday, April 8, 2002 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Cincinnati.
He was born April 3, 1964 in Lima, to Robert Eugene and Gloria (Dyer) Rock Sr., both of whom survive in Alger.
Other survivors include a brother, Ronald E. Rock of Columbus; two sisters: Ronda (John) Wyomic of Kenton and Roberta E. (Frank) Karfit of Alger; several aunts and uncles; seven nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Randall E. Rock; his maternal grandparents: Richard and Thelma Dyer; and his paternal grandparents: Howard Rock and Pearl Young.
Mr. Rock was a disabled Veteran. He was a graduate of Riverdale High School in 1982. He signed up under the Delayed Entry Program for the U.S. Army when he was a junior in high school. He was in Company C, 3rd Battalion (Airborne), 325 Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division. He served during the Grenada Uprising.
Services were held Friday, April 12 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. James Holbrook officiating.
Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hardin County Humane Society.

Florence Williams Zehner
Died: Monday, April 8, 2002
Florence Williams Zehner, 80, of Ft. Myers, Florida, died in April of 2002.
She is survived by her husband Larry, two sons and a daughter.
She was a member of the graduating class of 1939 from Ada High School, and her father, Robert Williams, was the president of ONU during the 1930's.

Joe L. Cotner
Died: Sunday, April 7, 2002
Joe L. Cotner, 87, of Lima, died Sunday, April 7, 2002 at the Lima Convalescent Home.
He was born May 18, 1914 in Ada, to Joseph L. and Clara (Boyd) Cotner, both of whom are deceased.
On November 13, 1936, he married Marjorie A. Rhoads, who died on January 2, 1999.
Survivors include two sons: David (Charlotte) Cotner of Memphis, Tenn., and Laurence (Jacqueline) Cotner of Lawton, Okla.; a sister, Edith Dietz of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren: April Counts, Laurence Cotner II, Jay Cotner, and Christopher Cotner; three great-grandchildren: Kaeleigh Counts, Jenna Counts, and Jackson Cotner.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: J. Leroy, J. Arthur, Robert, and Clair B. Cotner; and three sisters: Mary Motter, Leila Hooper and Goldie Swope-King.
Mr. Cotner was an Electrical Engineer with American Electric Power and retired on June 1, 1979.
He was a member of the Shawnee Church of Christ. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge of Ada and a former member of the Sertoma Club of Lima. He was a Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and a former Elder with the church.
Mr. Cotner was also an Army Veteran of WWII.
Services were held on Wednesday, April 10 at Chiles and Sons-Laman Shawnee Chapel, Lima, with the Rev. Larry Molaski officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shawnee Church of Christ.

Alberta "Bertie" M. Elwood
Died: Sunday, April 7, 2002
Alberta Bertie M. Elwood, 80, of Ada, died Sunday, April 7, 2002 at Otterbein-Cridersville Retirement Community, Cridersville.
She was born January 22, 1922 in Bluffton, to Wilbur Glenn and Ruth (Faze) Sumney, both of whom are deceased.
On August 5, 1941, she married Rev. John H. Elwood, who died on January 18, 1977.
Survivors include two sons: William D. (Linda) Elwood of Hicksville and J. Richard (Sandi) Elwood of Fisher, Illinois; three daughters: Diane Mathews of Cleveland Heights, Patricia Harris of Ada, and Kae Ann (Jerry) Lewis of Conover; three brothers: Norman (Helen) Sumney of Lima, Fred (Jean) Sumney of Lafayette, and Wilbur Sumney, Jr. of Union, Ohio; a sister, Jeanne Sutton of Lima; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandsons: infant grandson Harris and Jeffrey Harris; and a son-in-law, Gary Harris; a a great-grandson, Brendan Matthew Elwood.
Mrs. Elwood was a homemaker. She was a member of the Westview United Methodist Church in Cridersville. She was a former member of Sugar Grove United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the church in Ada. She was a member of the Lafayette Order of the Eastern Star (Chapter 121) and a member of the Ada Liberty Grange. She was a 1940 graduate of Bluffton High School.
Services were held Wednesday, April 10 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Rev. Laura Raypholtz-Clark and Pastor Tom Dearth officiating.
Burial was in Dola Cemetery, Dola.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church and/or Otterbein-Cridersville Retirement Community.

Cheryl Kay Hoffmann
Died: Thursday, January 10, 2002
Cheryl Kay Hoffmann, 55, of Mt. Cory, died Thursday, January 10, 2002 at the Hospice Unit of Winebrenner Village, Findlay.
She was born August 23, 1946 in Lima, to Earl and Bureeda (Brown) Hackworth, both of whom survive in rural Ada.
On June 5, 1976, she married James R. Hoffmann, who survives in Mt. Cory.
Other survivors include a son, Thomas J. Hoffmann of Greenville; two daughters: Teresa K. Hoffmann and Stephanie L. Hoffmann, both of Mt. Cory; a brother, Michael E. (Alice) Hackworth of Pemberville; and two sisters: Sandra L. Waggoner of Ada and Marcia (Herb) Searson of Perry.
Mrs. Hoffmann was a hairdresser for Ada Hair Care. She owned Cheryl's Style Salon in Ada. She was a member of the Mt. Cory United Methodist Church. She served on the Mt. Cory Village Council and the Mt. Cory United Methodist Church Administrative Council. She was also a member of I Can Cope. She was also a former member of the former Eastern Star Chapter #6 of Ada.
Services were held Monday, January 14 at Mt. Cory United Methodist Church, Mt. Cory, with Pastor Leland Brehm officiating.
Burial was in Hasson Cemetery, Jenera.
Funeral home in charge of arrangements was Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice, American Brain Tumor Association and/or Ohio Northern University's Student Aid Unrestricted.
