Willie Belle Williams Adams
Graveside services for Mrs. Willie Belle Williams Adams were held Wednesday, May 4, at 11 a.m. in Southview Cemetery with Elder Mike Newman officiating.
Mrs. Adams, who until recent years, resided at 205 West Thomas Street in Thomaston, died at the age of 94 on Sunday, May 1, 2005, sleeping peacefully.
Mrs. Adams was born March 23, 1911 in Cook County, Georgia, moving to Upson County at the age of three. She was the daughter of the late Mrs. Ella DeVane Williams and the late Mr. John Ansel Williams. On December 22, 1932 she married James W. Adams (deceased) and they were happily married for 61 years. After they married they joined Grace Primitive Baptist Church and remained members until death.
A graduate of Crest School and a member of the Ladies Circle and Sewing Club of Grace Primitive Baptist Church, she was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Adams, known fondly as Aunt Belle by her many nieces and nephews, loved people, flowers and cooking. Nothing pleased her more than visits by friends and family, and she was always ready for her visitors with a warm smile and a slice of her famous sour cream pound cake or some other tasty treat.
Known as an avid gardener, her yard was filled with color throughout the year, especially in spring. In fact, there was a time when the florists of Thomaston called on Mrs. Adams for backup flowers when they ran low. She was famous for her pound cakes, baking them for occasions ranging from birthdays to funerals to church-gatherings.
She and her husband, J. W., were known as a good team. His wry sense of humor and dry wit delighted his wife throughout their marriage, and they enjoyed life together.
She remained active until the very last years of her life, and one of the family’s favorite memories is of Aunt Belle kicking her heels up at the age of 90 with her nephew Ansley during CuzzFest.
Mrs. Adams was predeceased in death by her brothers, and sisters, Charles Williams and Lucille Daniel of Thomaston; Johnny Mack Williams of Savannah and Charleston; Irma L. Sharpley of Savannah; and Alverna Jordan of Conyers.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Barbara DeVane Pearson and son-in-law Brooks Pearson of Madison; a granddaughter, Mrs. Mollye (Jim) Rand of Roswell; a brother, Millard N. (Barbara) Williams of Darien; and several nieces and nephews.
