Richard Ballantine, of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Penn Hills, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999. Mr. Ballantine was a boiler maker for Local 154. He was the beloved husband of Frances Ballantine and the late Jane White; father of Maureen DeDobbeleer of Odessa, Fla., and Raymond R. Ballantine of Shaler Township; brother of Margaret Hood of England; grandfather of Raymond and Brian Ballantine, Terri Butler, Michele and Rachel DeDobbeleer; and two great-grandchildren. WILLIAM C. BISPING

William C. Bisping, 84, of New Stanton, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Aug. 23, 1915, in Charleroi, a son of the late Harry E. and Elizabeth Wagner Bisping. He was a charter member of Assembly of God Church, New Stanton, and an elder and deacon under the Rev. G. Jack Provard. He attended Victory Chapel in Greensburg. He and his wife spent their lives spreading the Gospel through written literature. Also, he was a former general county manager for Westmoreland Farm Bureau and retired from Associated Truck Lines. He is survived by his wife, Isabelle Parks Bisping; his children, Mrs. Jesse (Kathleen) VanDyke and Mrs. Joseph A. (Carolyn E.) Miller, both of Hunker, William H. Bisping and wife, Ly, of Greensburg, and James R. Bisping of Hunker; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry F. Bisping; a sister, Betty Pahel; and an infant brother, Howard Bisping. GARY A. BOWEN

Gary A. ``Pappy'' Bowen, 57, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Jan. 10, 1942, in Knox, Ill., a son of the late Clyde D. and Mildred Bogswell Bowen. He attended Visitation Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. He was a graduate of the Illinois Police Academy. He was a private in the U.S. Army. Gary was a police sergeant, deputy director, and EMT with the Galva Police in Illinois ; a truck driver for Carlson Trucking; a small engine repairman for True Value Duncan in Jeannette; and a CPR instructor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Steve Jr. and Beulah Harrold Potoka. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Emmie Potoka Ruff-Bowen; a son, Richard E. Ruff Jr. and wife, Sara, of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Tina Ruff at home; a granddaughter, Jamie Mimnaugh; a sister, Bev Gerard and husband, Bob, of Galva, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. EARL A. BUTTS JR.

Earl A. Butts Jr., 72, a retired president of Pre-Stress Concrete Co. Inc., died at his home in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Tuesday morning, Nov. 9, 1999. The Mass of Christian Burial will be in Christ Our King Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Thursday at 11 a.m. Prayers of Commendation and Farewell will be private. Friends may call at the J. HENRY STUHR INC., MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Mr. Butts was born in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Earle Sr. and Elsie Gress Butts. He was a graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie-Mellon University). A Navy veteran, he was a member of the Pre-Stress Concrete Institute and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Bloom Butts; two daughters, Cindy (Bob) Stannard of Greensburg and Lisa (Brian) West of St. Simons Island, Fla.; grandchildren, Nick and Ben Stannard of Pennsylvania and Parker and Brittany West of Florida. Kathryn Goody Hlebechuk

Kathryn Goody Hlebechuk, 72, of Jeannette, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born April 2, 1927, in Wilmerding, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna Romansky Goody. Kathryn was a devoted member of the St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church of Jeannette and also a member of the Ukrainian Club of Wilmerding. She was a graduate of Jeannette High School and was employed by the former Jeannette Glass and Shade & Novelty. Kathryn is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 44 years, Edward M. Hlebechuk; three sons, Edward Hlebechuk and wife, Leslie, and Donald Hlebechuk, all of Jeannette, and David Hlebechuk and wife, Robin, of Greensburg; three daughters, Anne Persichetti and her husband, Mark, of New Alexandria, Barbara Colonna and her husband, John, and Nancy Cochran and her husband, Mark, all of Jeannette; 12 wonderful grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Robosky and her husband, Joseph, of North Huntingdon and Margaret Kosmach and her husband, William, of Ohio; two brothers, Walter Goody and Joseph Goody and his wife, Sandra, all of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Beryl (Collins) Kalina, 78, of Wilmerding, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999. A daughter of the late Albert and Stella (Echman) Collins. Wife of the late Henry Kalina Sr. Beloved mother of Henry Jr., Albert ``Hinie,'' Fred, David, and Timothy Kalina. Sister of Albert Collins, Elizabeth Parkye, Jean Franks, and the late Ginger Umbel, Florence Magnus and Lloyd. Also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. ANNA M. (COOPER) KENNEDY

Anna M. (Cooper) Kennedy, 97, of Export, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, in AUH Forbes Regional, Monroeville. She was born Sept. 14, 1902, in Belfast, Ireland, a daughter of the late James and Mary (McGee) Cooper. Anna was a member of the Delmont Presbyterian Church; Eastern Star, Naomi Chapter, in Monaca; Ambridge Women's Club; and the Rebekah Lodge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, J. Perry Kennedy. Anna is survived by her daughter, Mary ``Mel'' Esch and husband, George, of Export; three grandchildren, James K., Robert W., and Douglas E. Esch, and their families; and four great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Ashley, Karisa, and Joshua Esch. Family and friends were received at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC. AGATHA LOUISE LESLIE LINDBERG

Agatha Louise Leslie Lindberg, 86, of North Huntingdon Township, on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Riverside Nursing Center. Born in Johnstown, Pa., April 13, 1913. Daughter of the late Charles Henry and Geneva Redmond Leslie. She is survived by her husband, Charles F. Lindberg. DR. EDWARD W. MARSH JR.

Dr. Edward W. Marsh Jr., 55, our dear husband, father, and son, passed away Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, after a courageous battle. He was born and raised in Greensburg. He was a much loved and respected orthodontist in Crofton, Md., and he also touched many lives through his music. He leaves his wife, Nancy; four children, Wendy, Jeff, Christopher and Scott; his father, Edward W. Marsh Sr. of Greensburg; and two brothers, John of Bradford, Pa., and David of Donora, Pa. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Community United Methodist Church in Crofton, Md. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community U.M. Samuel ``Po Po'' Marsico

Samuel ``Po Po'' Marsico, 103, of Jeannette, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. He was born Dec. 21, 1895, in Reggio Calabria, Italy, a son of the late James and Mary Jane Ronka Marsico. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Frank Levin Furniture Co. He was a member of the Ascension Church of Jeannette. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Isabella Bosso Marsico, in 1988; three sons, Joseph I, Joseph II, and Victor J. Marsico; a grandson, Scott Marsico; two brothers, Tony and Ralph Marsico; a sister, Angeline Barbario; and a daughter-in-law, Blanche Ciafre Marsico. He is survived by three daughters, Mary Jane Beaufort and her husband, Wilbert, Angeline Konkus, with whom he resided, and Margaret Gisane and her husband, Albert, all of Jeannette; two sons, James Marsico of Greensburg and Samuel T. Marsico and his wife, Lillian, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter-in-law, Loretta Marsico of Adamsburg; 11 grandchi1dren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Anna R. Payne

Anna R. Payne, 94, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Oct. 13, 1905, in Plsen, Czechoslovakia, a daughter of the late Ignatz and Rose (Zeman) Vorel. She was a member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church, the former Bible Class of Loyalhanna Mission, and the Latrobe Golden Agers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil O. Payne Sr., in 1976; four brothers, Albert, Joseph, Andrew and Charles Vorel; and a son-in-law, Richard L. Sweeney Sr. She is survived by four children, Virgil O. Payne Jr. and his wife, Florence, of Loyalhanna, Rosanne Mrozinsky and her husband, Felix, of Loyalhanna, Richard C. Payne and his wife, Anita, of Doylestown, and Sally P. Sweeney of Latrobe; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Sherry ``Chub'' Porterfield, 50, of Acme, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Aug. 14, 1949, in Greensburg, a daughter of William Barron of Derry and the late Roxanne Emert Barron. She was employed by Latrobe Steel Co. and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. She was preceded in death, in addition to her mother, by a brother, Bill Barron. "Chub" is survived by her husband, Bruce Porterfield; a son, Sgt. Matthew Miller U.S.M.C., of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; two daughters, Rebecca and Julie Porterfield, both at home; a brother, David Barron of Kregar; a sister, Sandy and her husband, Roger Kellerman, of Latrobe RD5; and her father- and mother-in-law, Delmar and Viola Ankney Porterfield. David J. Saginaw, 68, of McCandless Township, on Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999. Husband of Eileen Behr Saginaw. Father of Kimberly Jean Gettemy of Spring, Texas, and David John Saginaw II of Huntington, N.Y. Grandfather of David Dominick Gettemy, Connor Christopher Gettemy, and Joseph David Saginaw. Mr. Saginaw was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Cecilia Oravetz Snyder

Cecilia Oravetz Snyder, 72, of North Irwin, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, in the St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born April 16, 1927, in North Versailles, a daughter of the late Frank and Ann Bedinsky Oravetz. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for the Jacktown Manor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Lovre; and her second husband, Gilbert Snyder. She is survived by a son, Carl Lovre and his wife, Darlene, of Rochester Hills, Mich.; a daughter, Paulette Tebbets of Greensburg; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Ann Shalkowski of East McKeesport and Dolores Picollino of Penn Hills. Alfred ``Spud'' Spadafore

Alfred ``Spud'' Spadafore, 84, of Monessen, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Waddington Convalescent Home following an illness of 10 months. Born on Nov. 23, 1914, in Monessen, a son of the late Michael and Vincenzina (Dodaro) Spadafore, he was a lifelong resident of Monessen and a 1932 graduate of Monessen High School. He was retired from the former Monessen plant of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., having worked as a motor inspector at the Blooming Mill. He was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society; a life member and treasurer for many years of the Sons of Italy; life member of the Eagles Club; member of M.A.R.S. and the Italian Mutual Aid Society; and a former member of the French Club. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ann (Maranich) Spadafore; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Diane Spadafore of Monessen; three daughters and sons -in-law, Nancy Moussioux of Greenville, S.C., Shirley and Ron Novakovich of Elizabeth Township, and Jean and Jim Matson of Greensburg; a brother, Albert ``Abe'' Spadafore of Monessen; a sister and brother-in-law, Valia and Dominic Mazzocco of Monessen; a niece, Alice Maranich of Atlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Emil and Hugo Spadafore; and a daughter-in-law, Donna Bellone Spadafore. Harold E. Stubbs Sr.

Harold E. Stubbs Sr., 89, of Washington Township (Mamont), died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, in the H.C.R. Manor Care nursing home, Monroeville. He was born March 15, 1910, in Altoona, a son of the late Harry H. and Laura DeArmitt Stubbs. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an electrician for Westinghouse Electric Corp. in East Pittsburgh, and also owned and operated Mamont Radio and Television Repair for a number of years. He was a member of St. John Baptist de La Salle Church in Delmont, and was a charter member of the Washington Township Lions Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. Ratay Stubbs, on March 27, 1999; and a sister, Margaret Kulberg. Survived by three sons, Gerald E. Stubbs and his wife, Peggy, of Delmont, Kenneth E. Stubbs and his wife, Karen, of New Kensington, and Harold E. ``Hod'' Stubbs Jr. and his wife, Diana, of Penn Hills; a brother, Ralph Stubbs, of Fairless Hills, Pa.; a sister, Beatrice Church, of Beltsville, Md.; and nine grandchildren. Mary Janice Ward

Mary Janice Ward, 76, of Redstone Highlands, Greensburg, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Redstone Highlands. Born March 30, 1923, in Rockford, Ill., she was a daughter of the late John A. and Mary (Lander) Nelson. She graduated from Oakmont High School in 1941 and from Allegheny College in 1945; married John V. Ward in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Oakmont, in 1945, and settled in Oakmont as a housewife and mother. She was active in the Oakmont Junior Women's Club, the Oakmont Drama Club, the Girl Scouts, and was a Sunday school teacher at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. From 1971 to 1974 she lived in Ulsan, Korea, with her husband, who was on a work assignment for Gulf Oil. She lived in Olympia, Wash., and Arvada, Colo., before moving back to Pennsylvania in 1982. She is survived by her husband, John V. Ward, of Redstone Highlands Apartments, Greensburg; a son, John N. Ward Esq. and his wife, Patricia H. Bonidy, of Greensburg and Ocala, Fla.; and a cousin, Eddie G. Anderson and his wife, Lucille Anderson, of Lakewood, Colo. Family and friends were received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. for procession to the Unity Chapel, Unity Township, for services to be held at noon with the Rev. Steven Heintz officiating. Interment will be in Unity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Latrobe Area Hospital Foundation, Westmoreland Hospice, or Redstone Highlands.

PAUL E. WEAVER

Paul E. ``Hank'' Weaver, 79, of North Huntingdon, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at his residence. He was born Oct. 2, 1920, in Irwin, a son of the late Frank and Myrtle (Creighton) Weaver. He was a machinist for the Elliott Co. He was a member of the Westmoreland City Primitive Methodist Church, Westmoreland City Fire Department, Westmoreland County Fireman's Association, Mohawks, Shidle Lodge #601 F&AM, Manor Senior Citizens, and Meals-on-Wheels. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois J. (Abram) Weaver; a brother, Raymond Weaver; and four sisters, Caroline Hitchens , Dorothy Hitchens, Eleanor Weaver, and Lera O'Black. Survived by two daughters, Rebecca and husband, Stephen Hamilton, of North Huntingdon and Lori and husband, Corey Sechler, of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; a sister, Evelyn Jones of Jeannette; and four grandchildren, Chad and Erika Hamilton, and Karli and Katie Sechler. Friends will be received at the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Rodgers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bernard L. Murphy officiating. Interment Brush Creek Cemetery. Memorials to Westmoreland City Primitive Methodist Church.

MARJORIE ANNE WITHROW

Marjorie Anne Withrow, 71, of Greensburg, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at her home. She was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Greensburg, the daughter of the late George Jacob and Rowena Slaughter Myers. She was a retired nurse and social worker with the Westmoreland Regional Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Greensburg College Club, and was the secretary of the local AARP group in Greensburg. She is survived by her husband, James E. Withrow; her children, Barbara Myers of Pittsburgh, Diane Fives of Ligonier , and David Withrow of Pittsburgh; her brother, George Richard Myers, of Pleasant Hills; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Family and friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert C. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Scottdale Cemetery.

MILDRED F. WILCOX

Mildred F. Wilcox, 76, of Murrysville, on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999. Born Jan. 19, 1923, in Braddock, a daughter of the late Irvin and Stella Welsh Rittko. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Export. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Theodore; and two sisters, Edith Creighton and Alice Zimmerman. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Merle D. Wilcox; two sons, Merle D. Jr. ``Pete'' and wife, Judy, of Plum and Harry A. and wife, Linda, of Somerset; a daughter, Renee Baker and husband, Russell, of New Kensington; a brother, Irvin Rittko and wife, Gladys, of Export; three sisters, Ella Soles, Sally Lauer and husband, John, and May Hill and husband, Frank, all of Murrysville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the EDWIN N. WOLFE FUNERAL HOME INC., Export, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services Friday at 11 a.m. in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Export, with the Rev. Gregory B. Dr. Theodore T. Ziegenfus

Dr. Theodore T. Ziegenfus, 57, of Natrona Heights, formerly of Latrobe, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, in Sewickley Valley Hospital. He was born March 16, 1942, in Latrobe, a son of the late Theodore D. and Armella R. Bridge Ziegenfus. Dr. Ziegenfus was a graduate of St. Vincent College, Latrobe. He received his master of arts in biology and his doctor of philosophy in Botany-Genetics from West Virginia University. Postdoctoral appointments included: North Texas State University, Denton, Texas, and Wilmington Medical Center, Wilmington, Delaware, in Human Cytogenetics. Since 1970, he had been an associate professor of biology at the Pennsylvania State University, New Kensington campus. While at Penn State, he was chairman of Commonwealth College Senate, a university senator and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee at University Park. In 1998 he was chairman of the Penn State New Kensington faculty senate. He was the corresponding secretary for the Pennsylvania Academy of Science, and exhibits chairman. He was the author of several publications. Professional societies included the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Genetic Association, American Institute of Biological Sciences, American Society of Human Genetics, Botanical Society of America, Genetics Society of America, West Virginia Academy of Sciences, Pennsylvania Academy of Sciences, Society of Sigma Xi, and Phi Epsilon Phi. He was selected for inclusion in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Ted actively served in the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years. His major accomplishments included becoming an Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver recipient, and Vigil Honor from Kiasutha Lodge #57, Order of the Arrow. Ted was a member of the Greater Pittsburgh Council, Boy Scouts of America, and was a recipient of the William D. Boyce District Award of Merit, and Outstanding Scoutmaster Award. He was awarded the Commissioner Award, and was a James E. West Fellow from the Greater Pittsburgh Council. As a scouter, Ted has served as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, District Training Chairman, District Commissioner, and Assistant Council Commissioner. He also had provided leadership to the Junior Leader Training Conference for more than 1,000 youths. He was an ``Owl'' with both the Boy Scout Wood Badge and Cub Scout training courses. He served on the Council Executive Committee for Leadership Development. He also served on the Council Youth Protection Training Committee. Ted attended the Philmont Scout Ranch for many training courses, as well as a trek. Ted also participated in three National Scout jamborees, as well as visiting four other jamborees. Both of Ted's sons are Eagle Scouts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Elaine Ziegenfus. Survivors include two sons, Theodore F. Ziegenfus and his wife, Cynthia, of Butler and Karl A. Ziegenfus and his wife, Christine, of Penn Hills; a daughter, Susan A. Ziegenfus, of Latrobe; a brother, Richard P. Ziegenfus and his wife, Gina, of Ligonier; two stepgrandchildren, Brandi Smith and Brooke Bailey; and his former wife, Dorothy A. Zimmerman. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent Basilica, Latrobe. Interment St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township. HAROLD H. ZIMMERMAN

Harold H. ``Sam'' Zimmerman, 66, of Ligonier, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Dec. 31, 1932, in Ligonier Township, a son of the late James C. ``Chal'' and Bertha Harshbarger Zimmerman. Prior to his retirement in 1997, he had been employed for 34 years at Teledyne-Vasco in Derry Township. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ligonier, a charter member of the Ligonier Valley Mounties Booster Club, and the Byers-Tosh #267 American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marcella M. Baloga Zimmerman; a daughter, Paula Zimmerman, of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sons, Mark S. and wife, Denise, Zimmerman of Ligonier RD2, H. Drew and wife, Rhonda, Zimmerman of Houston, Texas, and Eric V. and wife, Sue, Zimmerman of Derry; seven grandchildren; a son-in-law, Jimmy El Haddad, of Ligonier; three sisters, Catherine Kinsey of Ligonier, Twila Seitz of Ocala, Fla., and L. Jean Andre of Knoxville, Tenn.; and a brother, James E. ``Sam'' Zimmerman, of Ligonier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Zimmerman. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the J. PAUL McCRACKEN FUNERAL HOME INC., 144 E. Main St., Ligonier. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph P. Maddalena as celebrant. Interment Ligonier Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Holy Trinity School. A vigil for the deceased will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Full military honors will be presented at the graveside by the Ligonier Valley Veterans Honor Guard.
