VIDOR – Connie Gayle Welch, 61, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Del Rose Cemetery in Vidor under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, Inc.
Survivors include her father, John Potts of Enterprise, Ala.; her husband, Jim Welch of Vidor; four sons, Jack Welch of Nederland, Rick Welch of Amarillo, Allen Welch of Bridge City and Shane Welch of Saratoga; one daughter, Kathy Plunkett of Vidor; four brothers, Steven Ford of San Marcus, Larry Potts of Enterprise, Ala., Don Ford of Fort Worth and Max Ford of Clovis, N.M; two sisters, Jo Jones of Fort Stockton and Cindy Free of Enterprise, Ala.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ralph M. Rountree
Ralph M. Rountree, 84, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, in Borger. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Survivors include two sons, Ralph Rountree of Orlando, Fla., and James Rountree of Foster City, Calif.; one brother, Raymond Rountree of Borger; three sisters, Bettie Smith, Marie Lewis both of Borger and Carolyn Hoskins of Pampa and three grandchildren.

Floyd Elting Newton
Floyd Elting Newton, 94, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Elkview General Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Assembly of God Church in Hobart, Okla. His sons and grandsons will be officiating. Burial will be in Lone Wolf Cemetery under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home in Lone Wolf, Okla. Survivors include four sons, Grant Newton of Frederick, Okla., Dale Newton of Hobart, Okla., Rev. Curtis Newton of Lawton, Okla., and Rev. Calvin Newton of Borger; one daughter, Vada Everhart of Lone Wolf, Okla.; one brother, Rev. J.W. Newton of Carlsbad, N.M.; 24 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Oran L. "Spec" Hughes
Oran L. "Spec" Hughes, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rose Hill Memorial Park under the direction of Cage-Mills Funeral Directors. Survivors include three daughters, Martha Tepera of Lindsey, Patricia Hughes Garrison of Winnsboro and Beth Hughes England of South Fork, Colo.; three sons, Robert Hughes of Reston, Va., Richard Hughes of Laredo and John Hughes of San Antonio; one brother, Doyle Price Hughes of South Fork, Colo.; 26 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Harold Dean Grace
DUNCAN, Okla. – Harold Dean Grace, 84, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Bailes-Polk Funeral Home in Duncan, Okla. Survivors include his wife, Alice Grace of the home; two sons, Billy Grace of Huntsville and Stephen Grace of Kansas City, Kan.; three daughters, Laota Gray of Bartlesville, Okla.,Virginia Kemp of Winchester, Tenn., and Helen Hays of Duncan, Okla.; five sisters, Christine Grace of Oklahoma City, Okla., Ethel Grace of Henryetta, Okla., Norma Grace of Shawnee, Okla., Darlene Parker of Sanger and Marie Grace of Okemah, Okla.; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Roy Lee Broom
HULBERT, Okla. – Roy Lee Broom, 68, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Muskogee, Okla. Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Fort Gibson National Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Edith Broom of the home; three sons, Roy Broom of Borger, Arthur "Jody" Broom of White Deer and Waylan Broom of Teague; one daughter, LaRhonda Skaggs of Fort Worth; seven grandsons, Luther Broom, Marc Broom, Waylan Broom, Michael Broom, Dustin Skaggs, Joshua Broom and Nicholas Skaggs; one granddaughter, Tosha Broom; five great-grandchildren, Chathan Bliss, Colton Broom, Dylan Tull, Savanna Morris and Zack Suttle; four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-laws, several nieces, nephews and friends.

Bill Bergner
GRAPEVINE – Bill Bergner, 59, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, in Grapevine. Services were held at 2 p.m. today in Martin Thompson Carriage House Chapel in Grapevine. An additional memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Central Church of Christ in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife, Ann Wells of Euless; two sisters, Betty Womble of Morse and Scout Bergner of Grapevine; two daughters, Sheli Johnson of Grapevine and Robin Dye of The Woodlands, his mother and stepfather, Lucile and Roy Oakley of Amarillo and four grandchildren.

Jimmie R. Shelton
ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. – Jimmie R. Shelton, 61, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, in St. Louis Park, Minn. Services are pending with Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Survivors include three brothers, Calvin S. Shelton, Phillip Eugene Shelton and David Shelton, all of Borger and one sister, Carol Ann White of Borger.

Melvin James Clark
Melvin James Clark, 59, died, Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, in Borger. Services are pending with Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Survivors include his wife, Verna Clark of the home; one son, Justin Clark; one daughter, Kim Wilkinson both of Borger; one brother, Sammy Clark of Gatesville; one sister, Nellie Potter of Grand Prairie; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Karlos A. "Dusty" Rhoades
PANHANDLE – Karlos A. "Dusty" Rhoades, 69, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, in Panhandle.Services will be held at 10 a.m.Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Panhandle with Rev. Kathryn Boren, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Survivors include his wife, Madge Rhoades of the home; one son, Keith Rhoades of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Dorcas Weatherred of Plainview and Jeri Osborne of Panhandle.

Ruth Wyman
Ruth Wyman, 84, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, in Amarillo. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Riverview Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Gillmore, pastor, officiating and Scott Wallance assisting. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Survivors include one son, Jerry Wyman of Masterson; one daughter, Lila Nugent of Borger; one sister, Rachel Jones of Wolforth; four grandchildren, Jeremy and Beverly Krieg, Jerry Don and Barbie Nugent and two great-grandchildren, Brody Krieg and Jourdan Krieg.

Warren Harlan Acker
Warren Harlan Acker, 82, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, in BSA Hospice in Amarillo. Services are pending with Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline; two sons, Mark Acker of Norman, Okla., and Mike Acker of Borger; one sister, Edith King of Long Beach, Calif., and eight grandchildren.

Arlene Hollis
Arlene Hollis, 54, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, in Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brown’s Chapel of the Fountains with Rev. Don Rice, pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Fritch, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery with arrangements entrusted to Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Survivors include her husband, Fred; four sons, Tony Hollis of Sanford, Fred Hollis of Enid, Okla., Leon Hollis of Roswell, Ga., and Joshua Roby of Borger; one daughter, Tina Herin of Fritch; four brothers, Arland Casey of Sanford, Benny Casey of Ranger, Austin Casey of Borger and Marvin Casey of Bakersfield, Calif.; three sisters, Jewell Peck and Clara Langston both of Joplin, Mo., and Jane Binion of Stinnett and six grandchildren.

Helen Louise Bowling
FRITCH – Helen Louise Bowling, 47, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, in Amarillo. Services are pending with Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Bowling of Durant, Okla., C.J. Bowling and Rocky Bowling both of Fritch; three daughters, Bonnie Gilmore of Durant, Okla., Diana Bowling and Evelyn Bowling both of Fritch; three brothers, James Matthews, Coy Matthews of Fritch and Danny Matthews of Canadian; four sisters, Bertie Matthews, Barbara Matthews, Loretta Matthews and June Blevins all of Sanford and seven grandchildren.
