September 23, 1999

Mrs. Reese
Viola Gray Reese, 82, a Collin County native who previously lived in the McKinney, Farmersville and Altoga areas, died Sunday at Lewisville, where she had spent spent many years before she moved to Manhattan, Kan., in 1956.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Belew Funeral Home in McKinney, with interment following in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be sent to the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, P. O. Box 197153, Houston, Tex. 77297. Donations can also be left at Belew Funeral Home at 601 S. Tennessee St. in McKinney.
Mrs. Reese was born on Aug. 15, 1917. After moving to Manhattan from Lewisville, she worked as a laboratory technician in the Dairy Science Department at Kansas State University until her retirement in 1981. She moved to Lake Kiowa, Tex., in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Garnett Reese, who died in December 1993.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Bill Robbins of Lake Kiowa; her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Carol Reese of Flower Mound; her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Shelley Reese of Manhattan, Kan.; one sister, Verda Lee Bass of Snow Hill; a brother, C. W. (Wilfred) Gray of Altoga, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Mrs. Allen
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge for Viola Aline Allen, 82, a long-time resident of that city who died last Thursday in Medical City Hospital of Dallas.
The rites were conducted by the Rev. Miller McClure, and interment was in Wilson Chapel Cemetery at McKinney under the direction of the Fielder-Baker Funeral Home of Farmersville.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Allen was born in McKinney on Feb. 16, 1917, the daughter of James Dahl and Mary Elizabeth Scalf Peters. She married Leonard A. Allen in Allen on Sept. 16, 1937, and was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge.
She is survived by a son, Leonard Ray Allen and his wife Lynn of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Dorothy Meeks and Lucille Boydston of Dallas and Mary Orr of Lewisville; a brother, J. D. Peters of Lewisville, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mrs. Lee
Mamie L. Lee, 92, a long-time resident of Farmersville, died Friday at her home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with the Reverends Bart Barber and Billy Joe Harris officiating. Interment was in Ridgeview Memorial Park at McKinney under the direction of the Fielder-Baker Funeral Home of Farmersville.
A retired dietician, Mrs. Lee was a native of Rockwall. She was born on July 14, 1907, the daughter of George and Ola Geren McDowell, and married Arthur Lee in Princeton on Sept. 20, 1925.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Bryant of Sachse and Myrtis Fitzgerald of Rockwall; two sons, Norman Lee of Farmersville and Kenneth Lee of Niceville, Fla.; three sisters, Grace Fox of Greenville, Gladys Brown of Garland and Marie Hackney of Tucson, Ariz., 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Pendleton
Ross Pendleton, 88, a native of Farmersville, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, in Memorial Hospital at Dumas. He was a resident of Sunray at the time of his death.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Sunray Baptist Church with the Reverends John Westman and Todd Dyess officiating. Interment was in Lane Memorial Cemetery at Sunray.
Mr. Pendleton was a retired farmer and was born on June 19, 1911. He had lived in Moore County since 1944, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Sunray.
He was also a long-time member of the Sunray Co-op, and after moving to the Texas Panhandle worked for SPS for three years until his love of the land drew him back to farming. He was a partner with his brother Clark until the latter died in 1981. At an auction in 1971, he and his brother purchased the Old American Zinc Co., which had been closed.
He married Mozelle McCloud on Jan. 18, 1941, in Sherman, and she survives along with five daughters, Pat Cripps of Sunray, Martha Ann Crum of Burkburnett, Loretta Kepley of Groom, Minerva "Mini" Grider of Dumas and Deborah Pendleton-Hutson of Amarillo; four sons, James Pendleton of Sunray, Charles Pendleton of Dumas, Craig Pendleton of Sunray and John Pendleton of Amarillo; a brother, John Pendleton of Farmersville; a sister, Mary Luce of Dallas, 23 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Memorial Hospice, 224 E.2nd St., Dumas, Tex. 79029.
Morrison Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Boren
Last rites were observed at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at graveside in the Blue Ridge Cemetery for Lillian Relatrice Boren, 91, a Blue Ridge resident who died Sept. 22 in the Leonard Nursing Home.
Officiating was the Rev. Rick Riddle, and arrangements were made by the Fielder-Baker Funeral Home of Blue Ridge.
Mrs. Boren was a retired nurse. She was born in Blue Ridge on March 16, 1908, the daughter of Stephen and Virginia Hockett Box. She married Ira Boren on June 1, 1929.
Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Davis
Robert E. Davis, 76, of Princeton, died Sunday at his home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel at McKinney with the Rev. Malcolm Cave officiating. Interment will be in Princeton Cemetery.
Mr. Davis was a native of Princeton. He was born on July 29, 1923, the son of Sylvester Earl and Ida Mae Smallwood Davis. He married Betty Jean Mills in Princeton on Feb. 16, 1967, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Princeton.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Davis of Princeton; a daughter, Linda Haught of Brownwood; a granddaughter and two great grandsons; a brother, Clifford Davis of Princeton, and a sister, Wilda McNiel of McKinney. He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Earl Davis; a grandson, Tony Davis, and two brothers.

ELMER F. (RED) JONES
Mr. Jones
Elmer Franklin (Red) Jones, 78, a long-time engineer for the U. S. Department of Agriculture’s Soil Conservation Service in Farmersville, died Sunday in McKinney after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church of Farmersville, of which Mr. Jones had been a long-time active member. The Rev. Bart Barber officiated, and interment was in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of the Fielder-Baker Funeral Home of Farmersville.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Jones was a native of Italy, Tex., who spent most of his adult life in Farmersville. He was born on July 15, 1921, the son of Claude and Betty Rogers Jones. He married the former Marcille Jones in Gainesville on Aug. 16, 1974.
He served in the U. S. Army from October 1940 until April 1946. He spent two and a half years of that time in survey work and in a Fire Direction Center in the Field Artillery. After graduating from Officer Candidate School he was commissioned a second lieutenant and was an instructor in an officer school, teaching logistics, map reading and the use of surveying instruments. He achieved the rank of major while serving as Transport Commander of the S. S. Westerly Victory Troop Ship in the Atlantic Ocean.
He received numerous certificates of merit for his work with the Soil Conservation Service, which he served from October 1946 until December 1980. He retired after 39 years and six months of federal service.
After his retirement, Mr. Jones joined the Hendricks Oil Co. of Farmersville, surveying and plotting tracts and lots for real estate developments and oil and gas distribution. From 1983 until March 1988 he was Superintendent of Public Works for the City of Farmersville, and for a short period of time served as interim city manager.
He was also the inspector for the construction of a new waste water treatment plant for the City of Farmersville from April until December 1988.
Mr. Jones was very active in church and civic affairs. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church for 48 years, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for some 35 years. He was also a member of the Farmersville Masconic Lodge.
A retired member of the Farmersville Volunteer Fire Department, he served that organization for 30 years, and was a past president of the Farmersville Lions Club.
He also received special recognition from the City of Farmersville for his performance as a city employee and for his dedication to the city.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marcille Jones of Farmersville; two daughters, Mrs. Jay Haid of Forestburg and Mrs. Marcia Dickerson of Merit; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Gloria Heflin of Gresham, Ore.; a son, Ed Jones of Littleton, Colo.; a stepson, Dr. Barry Toombs of Houston; a brother, C. M. Jones of Austin; two sisters, Mrs. Jerry Reynolds of Port Arthur and Mrs. Jean Harris of Italy, Tex., and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jessica Jones, in 1973.

Mr. Thomas
Memorial services were to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rowlett Chapel for Alvis (Sonny) Thomas, 67, of Garland, who died last Friday in Baylor Medical Center of Garland.
Officiating was the Rev. Aubrey Patterson.
Mr. Thomas was born in Powell, Tex., on Oct. 6, 1931, the son of Alvis and Minnie Othera Thomas. He worked as a dry wall man in the construction business.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Kay Elder of Farmersville and Karla Sue Ward of Garland; mother and stepfather, Minnie O. and Harley Rodges of Kaufman; four sisters, Mary Jean Parker of Mesquite, Patty Ruth Johnson of Scurry, Joann Thompson of Kaufman and Barbara Sue Ferguson of Dallas; four brothers, Don Thomas of Hawkins, Jerry Thomas of Garland, Billy Charles Thomas of Crandall and Ronnie Jo Thomas of Kaufman; four grandchildren, Kaylee Morris, Chesley Elder, Dawn Weems, and Nakomah Hanson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Woolsey
Last rites were observed at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel at McKinney for Donald Gene Woolsey, 73, a resident of that city who died last Friday.
Officiating were Mr. Kenneth Whittle and the Rev. Lyn Cypert, and interment was in Ridgeview Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were David Walker, Toby Gilmore, William Walker Jr., Richard Edwards, Johnny Hudson and Kenneth Baxter.
Mr. Woolsey was born in Hermon, Ill., on Aug. 25, 1926, the son of Kenneth C. and Mildred B. Woolsey. He married Susie Walker in Princeton on Aug. 2, 1985. He was a retired utility construction supervisor, a veteran of service in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and a member of American Legion Post 96 in McKinney.
Surviving are his wife, Susie Woolsey of McKinney; children, William Walker of Houston, Brenda Wallace of Daingerfield, Connie Brooks of Houston, Beverly Franklin of Anna, Charlene Flatt of Princeton, Kris Cade of McKinney and Judy Bryan of Willis; four brothers, Vivian Woolsey of Galesburg, Ill., Robert Woolsey of Seattle, Wash., Rolland Woolsey of Hermon, Ill., and Samuel Woolsey of Abingdon, Ill.; a sister, Mary Lou Bear of Missouri, 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Woolsey.

Mr. Oller
Charles Oller, 76, of Princeton, died Sunday in the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center at Bonham.
Funeral services for Mr. Oller were scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel at McKinney, with the Rev. Danny Buster officiating. Interment was to be in Ridgeview Memorial Park.
Mr. Oller was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Christian County, Ill., to Charles and Sadie Viola Withers Oller. He married Helen Mae Mitchell in Princeton on Nov. 6, 1987. He was a retired fireman and a member of the Josephine Baptist Church. During World War II he served with the U. S. Army in the European, African and Middle East Theaters, and was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Mae Oller of Princeton; a daughter, Pauline Dunham of Farmersville; a son, Charles Oller of Wills Point; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three sisters, Edith Skinner, Betty Zerfield and Bobbie, and two brothers, Warren Oller and Vern Oller, all of Illinois.

Mr. Kelley
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at graveside in Pleasant Grove Cemetery for Howard E.Kelley, 79, a Farmersville resident who died Monday.
Officiating was the Rev. John Connor, and arrangements were made by the Fielder-Baker Funeral Home of Farmersville.
Mr. Kelley was a native of Bellground, Ga. Born on Aug. 26, 1920, he was the son of Sterling and Alice Howard Kelley. He married Sue Kelley in Georgia on June 6, 1970. He was a construction worker and a U. S. Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Kelley of Farmersville; three daughters, Nila Cartmill of Farmersville, Dianne Kelley of California and Sandra Wood of Georgia; a foster son, Randy Hendricks of Georgia; a sister, Jewel Merett of Georgia; three brothers, Frank Kelley, Robert Kelley and Carter Roper, all of Georgia, and six grandchildren.
