Charles E. Murphy
Charles E. Murphy, 62, of Ridgway, died at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997 in St. Mary Medical Center in Evansville, Ind.
He was born on July 4, 1934 in Ridgway to the late Willard and Catherine Doerr Murphy.
He was a farm worker.
Surviving are two sisters, Bernice Rider of Ridgway and Shirley Dillard of Eldorado; a brother, George Murphy of Ridgway; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Fr. Ray Englehart will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Lyle (Hunk) Wood
Lyle (Hunk) Wood, 77, of Rosiclare, died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997 at his home.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare.

Donald Budzius
Donald Budzius, 63, of 1321 Wilmoth St., Harrisburg died at 5:22 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born in Gary, Ind. on May 6, 1933 to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Budzius.
He was a retired laborer and was of the Lutheran faith.
On April 12, 1977, he married the former Barbara Hendrickson, who survives. Also surviving are his father, Joseph M. Budzius of Largo, Fla.; a son, Joseph F. Budzius of Dyer, Tenn.; two daughters, Janet Sheckles of Benton and Wanda Graham of Texas; a stepdaughter, Helen Smith of Eldorado; a sister, Tina; two brothers, Joseph Budzius of Tacoma, Wash. and Fred Budzius of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by her mother, a daughter, Katherine Budzius and a son, Donald Budzuis Jr.
Graveside services will precede burial at 10 a.m. Monday in Lindale Cemetery at Eldorado. The Rev. Robert Coburn will officiate.
There will be no visitation at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery.

Mabel Marie Winters
Mrs. Mabel Marie Winters, 73, died at 2:32 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 1997 in Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare

Ernest Karlen, 93, of Route 3, Golconda, died at 6:03 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997 in Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare.
He was born on July 25, 1903, in Melrose, Minn., to the late Emil and Bertha Mosher Karlen.
He was a steel worker and retired from Inland Steel Co. in Hammond, Ind.
Mr. Karlen was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Golconda.
His wife, Ellie Karlen, preceded him in death on March 10, 1996.
Surviving are two sisters, Helen Lyons of Sheffield, Ala. and Ruth Haney of California; a nephew, Rolf Schilling of Rockport; three great-nephews; and one great-niece.
Services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. at the Aly Funeral Home in Golconda, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Gary Huron will officiate and burial will be in Palestine Cemetery, north of Golconda.

Ron Maynard
Ron Maynard, 55, died at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997 at his home, 101 West Homer St., Harrisburg.
He was born on April 27, 1941, in Harrisburg to the late Gilbert and Bernice Ratley Maynard.
He was retired from Sahara Coal Co. and was a home-bound student teacher. He was a veteran.
Ron was a graduate of Harrisburg Township High School in 1959, where he was an all-around athlete, participating in all athletics for all four years.
Survivors include an aunt, Wilma Maynard of Harrisburg; and four cousins, Terry Maynard and Mike E. Maynard, both of Harrisburg, Debbie Kohl of St. Louis, and Bennett Williams of Litchfield.
Visitation has been changed to 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Lambert Family Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Graveside services will precede burial at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. The Rev. Bill Fox will officiate. The body has been cremated.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Harrisburg Athletic Department.

Alva Glen Barrall
Alva Glen Barrall, 56, of 2309 Locust St., Eldorado, died at 4:40 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born in Salem on May 16, 1940, to Alva Rosswell and Mabel Atteberry Barrall.
Mr. Barrall was a member and trustee of Scott Street Baptist Church in Eldorado. He had served as Township Road Commissioner, was Chief of Police in Eldorado over nine years and was presently on the Eldorado City Council and was Public Property Commissioner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Shirley Davis on Nov. 4, 1994; his father in 1993, a son, Douglas Edward Barrall and a sister, Carolyn Miller died in 1995.
Surviving are his mother, Mabel Barrall; a son, Rick Barrall and a daughter, Reda Boyer, all of Eldorado; and five grandchildren, Brad Boyer, Todd Barrall, Jayson Barrall, Jessica Barrall and Andy Amberger.
Also surviving are a brother, Robby Barrall of Eldorado; and four sisters, Doris Wimberly of Granite City, Diane Abbott, Vicky Ande and Denise Lewis, all of Eldorado.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, where visitation was held after 12 until service time. The Rev. Gary West officiated and burial was in Jackson Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Scott Street Baptist Church and may be left at the funeral home.

Robert Dale Ledbetter
Robert Dale Ledbetter, 67, of 1072 Mill Bluff Road, Fredonia, Ky., died at 2 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997 at his home.
He was born in Harrisburg on April 6, 1929, to the late Frank and Bessie Parks Ledbetter.
He was employed for many years at Ellis Trucking and after the trucking left Harrisburg, he worked as an iron worker. He was a veteran and a member of the Teamster's Union and Iron Workers Local No. 107 in Evansville, Ind.
On April 12, 1952, he married the former Peggy McCage and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Debbie Rhine of Harrisburg; two sons, Frank Ledbetter at home and Robert Samuel Ledbetter of Elco, Nev.; three grandchildren, Jermy Ledbetter, Dianne Ledbetter and Billie Jean Rhine; two brothers, Richard Ledbetter of Drakesboro, Ky. and Bill Ledbetter of Bolingbrook; and two sisters, Elizabeth Mayes of Drakeboro and Phyllis Casten of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Ledbetter.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lambert Family Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday until service time. The Rev. Charles Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery with military rites by the Harrisburg and Carrier Mills Legion.

Freddie Don Smith
Freddie Don "Smitty" Smith, 59, of 409 S. 16th St., Herrin, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997 at his home.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in VanNatta Funeral Home in Herrin with Brother Dewayne Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Tip of Illinois Hospice.
He was a draftsman and an Army veteran. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Model Association.
He was born to Raymond Louie and Lois (Hunt) Smith.
Surviving are his wife, Linda F. Smith; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl A. and David Stewart of Cobden, Kendra L. and Aaron L. Norris of Hurst and Debbie D. and Steven R. Bloodworth of Energy; a son, and daughter-in-law, Rodney L. and Kerri L. Smith of Carterville; his mother, Lois Smith of Herrin; a sister and brother-in-law, Janet Rae and T.A. Sullivan Jr. of Harrisburg; one sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Herrin; six grandchildren.
His father, two brothers, Lester and G.H. Smith, and one nephew, Lester Dale Smith, preceded him in death.

Lorna Yvonne Butler
Mrs. Lorna Yvonne Butler, 73, of Robinson, died at 9:50 a.m. Jan. 22, 1997 at the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
She was the wife of Pierre A. Butler, formerly of Eldorado.
Mrs. Butler was born on Sept. 2, 1923 in Jasper County to the late Bernard and Eva Reed Jones.
She married Orvillle Moore York on April 12, 1942 and he preceded her in death. She married Mr. Butler on June 7, 1978.
Before retirement she was employed by Crawford Electronics in Robinson.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters; two step-daughters; two stepsons; two sisters; two brothers; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Ralph Graham will officiate and burial will be in Hardinville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hardinville Unit Methodist Church or the Crawford County (Ill.) Cancer Society.

John M. McSparin
John M. McSparin, 77, of resident of Carrier Mills Nursing Home, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997 at 8:10 a.m. at the nursing home.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Mike Davis will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. McSparin was born on Nov. 8, 1919, in Carrier Mills to the late Dr. John and Margaret Beach McSparin.
He was a retired Liaison Officer from Bowen Center and was in the Army Medical Corp during World War II.
He was a college graduate from Ball State and a member of Masonic Lodge in Carrier Mills, was a Shriner and a Kentucky Colonel.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Earl (Helen) Rowe of Ocala, Fla.; and a close friend, Nellie Vaughn of Harrisburg; three nieces and nephews; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Mike Davis will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery.

Wayne Brown
Wayne Brown, 65, of Ridgway, died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997 at his home.
He was born in Ridgway on Feb. 28, 1932, to the late Al and Maude Endicott Brown.
Mr. Brown was a construction worker.
Surviving are two sons, Alan Brown of Saint Cloud, Fla. and Iril Brown of Skipperville, Ala.; three daughters, Margaret Akinson of Ariton, Ala., Barbara Faulk of Brewton, Ala. and Crystal Sells of Ozark Ala; a sister, Kay Stricklin of Eldorado; and 11 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Cecil Gibbons will officiate. Burial will be in Jackson Cemetery.

Raymond Twitchell
Raymond Twitchell, 89, of Rosiclare, died at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997 in a fire at his home.
He was a member of Rosiclare General Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Faye "Geneva" Stone of Paducah, Ky.; a son, Gerald Twitchell of St. Louis; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sydney Twitchell, wife, Edith (Ledbetter) Twitchell; two brothers, Wayne Twitchell and Freeman Twitchell; and a sister, Lora Hoke.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare, where friends may call from noon to service time Tuesday. The Rev. Arthur Austin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery at Rosiclare.

Etta Beatrice Burton
Mrs. Etta Beatrice (Palmer) Burton, 72, of Redmond, Wash., died Friday, Feb. 14, 1997 in Redmond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Burton in 1985.
Surviving are a son, Jack Burton; a daughter, Sue Lindros, both of Redmond; her father and stepmother, Virgil and Sue Palmer of Rosiclare; a brother, Hershel Palmer of Rosiclare; a sister, Helen Billie Cubley of Route 1, Golconda; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy, her mother, Elsie (Littrel) Palmer in 1973, a brother, V.E. (Stumpy) Palmer in 1995; and a sister, Lois Jean Sullivan in 1991.
Funeral services and burial will be in Redmond, Wash.

Kimble D. Clark
Services for Kimble D. Clark, 81, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Mike Davis will officiate and burial will be in Saline Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Clark died Friday, Feb. 14, 1997 at Carrier Mills Nursing Home.

Marie Armistead
Mrs. Marie Armistead, 89, formerly of 215 West O'Gara St., Harrisburg, died at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997 at the home of a daughter, in New Palestine, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fred Armistead.
