Kenneth Gene Frizzell
Kenneth Gene Frizzell, 77, of Ojai, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, in Ojai.
He was born June 9, 1920, in Woodburn, Iowa, and was a Ventura County resident for 30 years, coming from Prescott, Ariz.
Mr. Frizzell worked as a machinist at 3M Company in Camarillo.
He served in the 528th Fighter Squad in World War II and enjoyed reunions of China, Burma and India veterans. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Sharon and Chuck Raymond, and Patti and Gene Coker, all of Ventura; sisters Verla Gray and Fern Windland, both of Osceola, Iowa; brother Bob Frizzell of Carydon, Iowa; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be today from 3 to 8 p.m. at Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Drive in Ventura. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 26, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Lyn Thomas officiating, also at Charles Carroll Funeral Home, followed by private burial.
Arrangements are under the direction of Charles Carroll Funeral Home in Ventura.

William Miller Reeves
William Miller Reeves, 82, died Friday, March 20, 1998, in Hillcrest Convalescent in Jamestown, Calif.
He was born Aug. 18, 1915, in Burbank, Calif.
Mr. Reeves had lived in Tuolumne, Calif. for the past eight years. Prior to that, he lived in Oak View for 31 years. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and received a Bronze Star in World War II where he served in the Pacific Theater from 1941 to 1945.
He met his wife Sheila Fitzgerald in Melbourne, Australia; they were married Oct. 8, 1946.
Mr. Reeves is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Glenn and Marliese Reeves of Tempe, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Tom Slaght of Tuolumne; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Sheila.
No services are to be held at his request. Arrangements are under the direction of Terzich & Wilson Funeral Home in Tuolumne City, Calif.

Donna Lee MacDougall Stratton
Donna Lee MacDougall Stratton, 66, of Ojai died at home Tuesday, March 17, 1998, after a long struggle with lung disease.
Born in Detroit and raised in Kansas City, Mo., she attended college in Texas and the University of Missouri before marrying Bill Stratton. She was a staff member of the Village Presbyterian Church in Kansas for 15 years.
Moving to Ventura in 1984, she became office manager and "mom" to an entire work force at Rincon Machine/Chouinard equipment until the company relocated to Utah.
She then applied her managerial acumen to Image Casting Co., from which she retired.
Mrs. Stratton was involved in volunteer work at the Kansas City Zoo, The Nature Conservancy, Santa Cruz Island Preserve, Planned Parenthood and League of Women Voters.
Her favorite causes were Oak View Friends of the Library, P.O. Box 97, Oak View, CA 93022 and the American Lung Association of Ventura, 2575 Wagon Wheel Road, Oxnard, CA.
She is survived by her sons Hall and Shelby Stratton; daughters Anna Lee and Sheryl Stratton; sister Annette Thornsberry; three grandchildren; and many cousins in Ontario, Canada.
A service was held March 22, 1998, aboard an Island Packers Boat at the Ventura Harbor.
Arrangements were under the direction of Charles Carroll Funeral Home in Ventura.

Susan Salisbury Shulze
Ojai-born artist Susan Salisbury Shulze, 45, died Feb. 15, 1998, in Kamuela, Hawaii.
She lived in the Ojai Valley and attended St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Catherine's and St. Bonaventure.
She is survived by her husband Richard Shulze; son Achahn; grandmother Georgia Nilan; mother Norma Salisbury; brothers Guy and Kirk Salisbury; sister Margo Lundstrum; and nephews and niece Ian, Sean and Amy.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Nordhoff Cemetery.

Rita Rogers
Rita Rogers, 91, of Ojai, died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at St. Joseph's Health and Retirement Center in Ojai.
Born Rita Kelliher on May 13, 1906, in Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland, she emigrated to the United States in 1927.
In 1946, she married Mr. Barney Rogers and they lived in New York City.
In 1977, they moved to Ojai. She had been living at St. Joseph's for the past three years.
Mrs. Rogers is survived by her sons Detective Kevin Rogers of Westlake Village and Dr. Patrick Rogers of Boulder Creek; daughter Eileen Rogers Brown of Culver City; sisters Kathleen and Eileen of Ireland; and six grandchildren.
A wake was held Sunday, March 15 from noon to 8 p.m. at Clausen Funeral Home with the rosary recited at 7 p.m.
Mass was said Monday, March 16 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Health and Retirement Center, followed by interment at Nordhoff Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Jennifer Jane Harvey
Jennifer Jane Harvey, 19, of Ojai, died Friday, March 27, 1998, in Santa Paula from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
She was born May 2, 1978, in San Antonio, Texas, and lived in Ojai for 10 years, coming from San Antonio.
Miss Harvey was a customer representative for Oshman's Sporting Goods in Camarillo.
She is survived by her parents, Jeffrey and Kathi Harvey, and brothers, Nathan and Johnathan Harvey, all of Ojai.
Visitation and a memorial service were held Monday at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.
Funeral services and burial will be today at 1:15 p.m. in San Antonio at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery and Funeral Home.
Pastor Kevin Prather, of the Eisenhauer Road Baptist Church, will officiate.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home.

Helvia Thompson
Helvia Thompson, longtime resident of the Ojai Valley, died March 23 after a brief illness.
She was 80 years old.
Mrs. Thompson was always active in community affairs. In the 1960s, she produced many plays at the Ojai Valley Art Center.
More recently, she mounted a vigorous and successful campaign to keep the Meiners Oaks Library open.
In addition, she volunteered at the Ojai Historical Museum, the Little House, and the Meiners Oaks School, and was an active member of the Ojai Valley Democratic Club.
She enjoyed travel and had visited Europe, Mexico, China, Russia, and Mongolia (where she rode on a camel and slept in a yurt).
The widow of Palmer Thompson, a radio and television writer, she is survived by her daughter Susan Meyers of Sonoma; her granddaughter Jessica Slack; and her great-grandson Dylan.
No memorial service is planned. Donations in memory of Helvia Thompson may be made to Friends of The Ojai or Meiners Oaks Library.

Michael Edward Boyle
Michael Edward Boyle, 45, a former resident of Ojai, died at his home in Sacramento March 9, 1998.
He was the son of the late Major Edward C. Boyle and Arlene Gleason Huse.
He was born June 2, 1962 in Goffstown, N.H.
A student of life with various interests, Mr. Boyle graduated from Nordhoff High School in 1970 and from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1975.
He is survived by his mother Arlene Gleason Huse of Grass Valley, Calif.; brother Richard P. Huse of Sacramento; sisters Beverly J. Huse of Grass Valley, Maureen H. Littlefield of Rio Linda, Calif., and Linda M. Chaves of Albuquerque, N.M.; and three nephews.
In June, family and friends will gather for a memorial service in Michael's favorite place, Yosemite National Park.

Angele Marie Boyd
Angele Marie Boyd, 83, of Ojai, died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 4, 1914, in New Orleans, La., and was a Ventura County resident for the past 14 years, coming from Marin County.
Mrs. Boyd was retired, having been a school teacher for 17 years for the San Rafael School District. She was a professed Franciscan of the San Buenaventura Fraternity and a eucharistic minister at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Ojai.
She is survived by her daughters Shannon M. Boyd of France and Patti Brandeburg of Simi Valley; and her brother Frank P. LeSquin of Pennsylvania.
Rosary was recited Tuesday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Ojai.
Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Assumption Cemetery in Simi Valley.
Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, 757 E. Main St. in Ventura.

Harold Clyde Mashburn
Harold Clyde Mashburn, 72, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, in his Ojai Valley home where he had lived more than 34 years.
Born Aug. 25, 1925, the firstborn of Jewell (Teeters) and Clyde Mashburn, he attended schools in Ventura and Ojai, volunteered for service in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict.
An employee of the oilfield industry for 33 years, he later worked for Ventura County in the road maintenance department (Ojai Division) and retired in 1987.
He enjoyed fishing and taking care of the family "homestead."
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Arlou Mashburn; sons Drew, Mitch, Balke and Neal Mashburn and families; daughters M'Lou Keller and Mindy Marquez; sister Betty Loomis; and families.
A private memorial service for immediate family members will be held soon.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Brain Tumor Association, Brain Tumor Institute, Ojai Hospice, Livingston Visiting Nurse Association or HELP/RSVP of Ojai.

William Brooke Whitman Jr.
William Brooke Whitman Jr., 76, of Ojai, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, in Los Angeles after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 6, 1922, in Pottstown, Pa., and had lived in Ojai 15 years, coming from Pottstown.
Mr. Whitman was a salesman for the Walter F. Schwab Company and was a member of the AMVETS, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Masonic Order.
He is survived by his sister Mary Wilson of Ojai. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Schiver.
No funeral services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Alice S. Roberts Travis
Alice Siegmund Roberts Travis died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at home.
An Ojai resident from 1962 to 1971, she was born in Summit, New Jersey, Aug. 12, 1920 to Humphreys Oliver and Leola Meachum Siegmund, and lived in West Orange, New Jersey until beginning college at 16.
She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and a master's degree in home economy from New York University.
She worked at the original Bell Laboratories in New York City as a chemist; in Germany, Japan, Korea and India for the American Red Cross just after World War II; for Family Circle magazine as a photographer and food editor; and as a recipe developer and researcher for the Sunkist citrus company in Southern California, where she met her first husband, the father of her two daughters.
In Ojai, the then-Alice Roberts was a member of the Presbyterian Church, supported the symphony and Ojai Valley School, and the family often hosted young tennis players during the tournaments.
The Roberts moved from Ojai to Warren, Maine in 1971 and to Wiscasset, Maine in 1972 where they lived until 1985.
Survivors include her daughters, Leola Beth Roberts of Damariscotta, and Corrie Mellor Roberts of Rockland.
A memorial celebration will be held Sunday, May 10 at the home of Ethel and Ed Stansfield, 6 Washington Street, Wiscasset, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
