Brooks
Gladys Anderson Brooks, age 86, widow of Glen Brooks, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon. Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Comers Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Virginia McClanahan, Marion, and Pearl B. and J.C. Lane of Flatridge; seven sons and four daughters-in-law: Earl Brooks of Marion, Pete Brooks of Freesburg, Ill., Blaine and Carolyn Brooks, and Rex and Kay Brooks, all of Sugar Grove, Glen Jackson and Joyce Brooks of Konnarock, Garland Brooks of Flatridge, and David and Ruby Brooks of Powhatan; five sisters: Hassie Grinstead and Hattie Testerman, both of Marion, Mary Tolliver and Dolly Cullop, both of Troutdale, Selvia Cannella of Joppa, Md.; one brother, Bane Anderson of Troutdale; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage and Rev. Phillip Duvall officiating. Burial followed in Comers Creek Cemetery.
Seaver-Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Heldreth
Patsy A. Heldreth, age 61, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996 at her home in Masaryktown, Fla.
She was a native of Groseclose and had moved to Masaryktown 30 years ago. She was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Mike Evans, Sugar Grove, Steve Evans, Chilhowie, and Travis Heldreth, Richmond; two daughters, Jill Bailey, Abingdon, and Rebecka Heldreth, Masaryktown, Fla.; one sister, Virginia Shepherd, Spring Hill, Fla.; seven grandchildren.
Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville, Fla., was in charge of arrangements.

McCready
Christine Haynes McCready, age 75, of Saltville, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1996 in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn.
She was a member of McCready United Methodist Church and was the widow of Carl McCready.
Survivors include two sons, Charlie McCready, Bristol, and Jeff McCready, Saltville; three daughters, Mrs. Ken (Mary) Schott, San Antonio, Texas., Mrs. David (Joan) Bansemer, Bristol, and Mrs. Mac (Pat) Buchanan, Saltville; one sister, Olivene McCready, Niceville, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, in McCready United Methodist Church with the Rev. Howard Hawk officiating. Burial was in Elizabeth Cemetery. Memorials may be made to McCready United Methodist Church, Saltville.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Trent
Earl Trent, age 68, of the Widener's Valley Community, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1996 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
Survivors include his wife, Elruth Trent; four sons, Eddie Dean Trent, Meadowview, Harold Junior Trent, Glade Spring, Tommy Trent, Chilhowie, and Ricky Trent, Damascus; two brothers, Billy Trent and Jack Trent, both of Glade Spring; two sisters, Helen Caroll and Carolyn Caldwell, both of North Carolina; three half-sisters, Martha Owens, Abingdon, Nellie McCracken, Damascus, and Mary Milhorne, Johnson City, Tenn.; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Critcher, the Rev. Mahlon Wyatt and the Rev. Mike Haga officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.
Johnson Funeral Home in Damascus was in charge of arrangements.

Buskell
Zenna Harrington Buskell, age 75, died Saturday, December 21, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Buskell of Marion; one son, Daniel Buskell of Marion; four sisters, Eddith Harrington of Sugar Grove, Eula Lampkins of Marion, Gladys Jones of Havre de Grace, Md. and Enola Harrington of Belair, Md.; one brother, Donald Harrington of Sugar Grove.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 23 at 11 a.m. at Seaver Brown Chapel with Rev. Tim Boyette officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery.
Seaver-Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Clark
Ernest C. Clark, 88, of Glade Spring, died Thursday, December 19, 1996 at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Susong Clark and a brother, Garland Clark. He was owner and operator of Appalachian Gardens and was known as "The Holly Man." He was a member of the Glade Spring Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by one sister, Mildred C. Faris, Kingsport, Tenn.; one nephew and wife, James B. and Patricia B. Faris of Kingsport, Tenn.; two great nieces, Paige A. Faris, Kingsport, Tenn., and Holly M. Faris, Knoxville, Tenn.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Chilhowie with the Rev. Timothy W. Bird officiating. Burial followed in the Old Glade Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Flower Fund of Glade Spring Presbyterian Church.

Forrester
Chilhowie - Mrs. Kathleen C. Forrester, 74, died Friday, December 20, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. She was a native of Saltville and had lived most of her life in the Smyth and Washington County area. She was a member of First Church of God in Chilhowie.
Survivors include one son, Dan Forrester, Suffolk; one step-son, Jerry Forrester, Marion; one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Joy) Hicks, Glade Spring; one brother, William "Scott" Campbell, Bainbridge, N.Y.; one sister, Margie Caywood, Saltville; two grandchildren, Dr. Van Forrester and Lesley Hicks; her daughter-in-law, Linda Seymore Forrester; and her son-in-law, Fred Hicks.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 1996 in Farris Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bobby Dunn officiating. Committal services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, December 23, 1996 in Mt. Rose Cemetery, Glade Spring.
Farris Funeral Service of Abingdon is serving the family of Mrs. Forrester.

Hess
Mary Ann Magalen Elizabeth Hess, age 77, died Sunday in the Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn. Mrs. Hess was a native of Buchanan County and had been living in Chilhowie for the past six months. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Hess; one son, Russell Evans Hess and one daughter, Elizabeth Florence Combs. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Blackfoot and had worked as a homemaker most of her life.
Survivors include five daughters, Rosie Mae Testerman, Marion, Shirley E. Lois Street, Chilhowie, Cousby Lear Yearout, Beckley, W.Va., Charlotte Eula Ellen Thomas, Marion and Fannie Arbutus Combs of Chilhowie; one son, Beacher Andrew Hess of Buchanan; four sisters, Ella Alderman, Beckley W.Va., Eula Stump, Honaker, Ida Street, Honaker and Madie Crouse, Beckley W.Va.; three brothers, Luther Barton, Honaker, Johnny Barton, Honaker and Evans Barton, Stevenson, W.Va.; 26 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several half brothers and sisters also survive.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. from the Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage and the Rev. Dennis Eller officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery.

Leslie
Glade Spring-Mrs. Edith A. Leslie, 74, died Sunday, December 22, 1996 at her home. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Reginald Leslie; one daughter, Glenda A. Leslie, Glade Spring; one son, Glen A. Leslie, Glade Spring; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be conducted today at 11 a.m. in Mr. Rose Cemetery with the Rev. Wiley Mayo officiating.
The D. R. Henderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Murray
Noah Franklin Murray, Sr., age 49, of Staley Street in Marion, died Saturday in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. Mr. Murray was a native of Smyth County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Edith Murray. He was a decorated Vietnam veteran having served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 101 Airborne Division. He received two Purple Hearts, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Vietnam Service Medal. He served in the U.S. Army for over 13 years and achieved rank of Sergeant 1st Class. He was a member of the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post #4667, the Disabled American Veterans, the 82nd Airborne Association and the Purple Heart Association.
Survivors include two sons, Noah Franklin Murray, Jr., Orlando Fla. and Steven Bradley Murray of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Tereasa Olinger of Marion; one brother, Willard Murray, Jr., Marion; one grandchild, Reagan Ciera Murray; two step grandchildren, Garion Combs and Issac Johnson. He is also survived by a special friend and companion, Maggie Combs of Marion.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 11 a.m. from the Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post #4667.

Roland
Charles R. "Bob" Roland, age 74, died Friday, December 20, 1996 at his home in Marion. Mr. Roland was preceded in death by his father and mother, George and Bessie Roland; one sister, Dora Snyder, and two brothers, Tim and John Young.
He is survived by several nieces, nephews and one special friend, Roberta Armstrong of Marion.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 22, 1996 at 4 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Mike Sage officiating. A private burial followed in Roland Cemetery in Marion.

Sheets
Chilhowie-Luther Ray Sheets, 92, died Friday, December 20, 1996 in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. He was a retired employee of the Brunswick Corporation in Marion. He was a member of and oldest father at Grosses Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Mary Martin Sheets; three daughters, Jean Ross, Mountain City, Tenn., Betty Severt, Atlanta, Ga., Gladys Noack, Benton Harbor, Mich.; two sons, Clarence Sheets, Marcellus, Mich. and Jamie Sheets, Chilhowie.; two brothers, Neal Sheets and Floyd Sheets, both of Chilhowie; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, December 23, 1996 in the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Chilhowie with the Rev. Lloyd L. Sheets officiating. Burial followed in the Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Sheets was preceded in death by a son, Howard Sheets. He is also survived by three sons-in-law, Bill Ross, Mountain City, Tenn., Avery Severt, Atlanta, Ga., Harold Noack, Benton Harbor, Mich.; one daughter-in-law, Anita Sheets, of Chilhowie; a special friend of the family, Veda Dentler; a very special grandson, David Sheets.
Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie was in charge of arrangements.

DeBord
Fern DeBord, age 73, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 1996 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla.
Mrs. DeBord moved to Brevard County, Fla., 32 years ago from Jonesville, where she was born. She attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Ray DeBord, of Cocoa, Fla., formerly of Saltville; one daughter, Wanda Ely of Melbourne, Fla.; two sons, Harold DeBord and wife Phyllis of Orlando, Fla., and Rick DeBord and wife Darla of Cocoa, Fla.; one brother, Ora Welch of Knoxville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral and burial were held in Jonesville.

Dunaway
Hazel Greer Dunaway, age 82, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996 in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Aug. 13, 1914 in Grayson County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Otis and Beatrice Reedy Greer. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairview Christian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Claude Melvin Dunaway; one daughter, Betty D. (Jo) Alcock and husband Alfred of Lynchburg; three brothers: Harry Greer and wife Anne, South Bend, Ind.; Jack Greer and wife Charlotte, Silar City, N.C.; Rex Greer and wife Ruth, Atkins; two sisters, Vella G. Harmon and husband Willard, and Edith G. Cox, both of Atkins; three grandchildren, Michael Alcock and Paul T. Alcock and wife Mary, both of Lynchburg, Kevin Alcock and wife Kate of Danville; two great-grandchildren: Carolyn F. Alcock and Paul T. Alcock Jr., both of Lynchburg; two sisters-in-law, Mary Kate Greer of Atkins, and Helen Parker of Newport News.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Dec. 30, at 1 p.m. in Whitten Park Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Jan L. Weston officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Edmiston
Edward Eugene "Eddie" Edmiston, age 43, formerly of Chilhowie, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996 at his home in Galax.
He was a lifelong resident of Chilhowie and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Gertrude Collins Edmiston.
Survivors include his mother, Shirley Hill Rider, Lexington, N.C.; one brother, John D. "Gig" Edmiston, Marion; one great-aunt, Mrs. John Collins, Chilhowie; a special friend, Debbie Thomas, Marion; several cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 28, in Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Blevins officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View UMC Cemetery.

Eggers
Rev. I. Blaine Eggers, age 79, died Friday, Dec. 20, 1996 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. He was a native of the Creston, N.C., area and was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Dean Eggers of Marion.
He had served as a Baptist pastor for the past 58 years at 17 different churches, including Cleghorn Valley Baptist Church, and had most recently pastored at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Widener's Valley for 40 years and Denton's Valley Baptist Church in Abingdon for 41 years.
He is survived by his wife, Vada Eggers; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bert and Brenda Snodgrass and Dennis and Lavone Widener, both of Damascus; three grandsons, Scottie Widener, Travis Dyson and Brent Dyson; one great-grandson, Tyler Widener; one granddaughter-in-law, Robin Widener; two sisters, Lois Lewis of Creston, N.C., and Mary Grace South of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; a special niece, Louise Hurd and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, in the Pleasant View Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Wilson, Rev. Bob Steele, Rev. Roger Boyer, Rev. Tim Stevens and Mr. Herman Widener officiating. Interment followed in the Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus.
Johnson Funeral Home in Damascus was in charge of arrangements.
