Hatcher
Ina Hatcher, age 85, of Pinoak, W.Va., died Monday, June 12, 2000 at a Beckley hospital.
Mrs. Hatcher was born May 25, 1915 in Mercer County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Keaton Walker and Lola Walker Walker. She was preceded in death by eight sisters, Lena Walker, Vervie Cook, Cordie Dishon, Vida Vipperman, Edna Crotty, Faye Walker, Ana Coomes, and Loretta Coomes; and three brothers, Kyle Walker, Loy Walker and Ray Walker.
Mrs. Hatcher was a homemaker and a member of the Rich Creek Primitive Baptist Church at Pinoak, W.Va.
Surviving are two daughters, Annell and Ana Lee; one son, Howard Hatcher; one sister, Reva Phillips of Marion; two brothers-in-law, Ray Coomes of Pinoak, W.Va., and Marvin Coomes of Delaware, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 15, at 2 p.m. at the Rich Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Pinoak, W.Va., with Elder Lewis Lester officiating. Interment will be in Crotty Cemetery at Pinoak, W.Va. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton, W.Va., and at the church one hour before the service.

Horne
John D. Horne, age 87, of Sugar Grove, died Friday, June 9, 2000 in the Birdmont Health Care Center in Wytheville.
Mr. Horne was born in Smyth County, the son of the late John David and Katherine Munsey Horne. He was a member of the Blue Springs United Methodist Church and was a retired Smyth County dairy farmer.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances W. Horne; one daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis H. and C.R. Jones, Rural Retreat; two sons and daughters-in-law, David Clayton and Fran Horne, Rural Retreat, and Charles R. and Belinda Horne, Marion; one sister, Munsey Horne, of the home; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 12, at 11 a.m. at the Blue Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Perkins officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Sugar Grove Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Lamie
Mabel Lamie, age 87, of Saltville, died Friday, June 9, 2000 at the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Lamie and her husband were the owners and operators of Lamie Grocery in Rich Valley.
Mrs. Lamie was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Garfield Lamie; by her son, Sherman Eugene Lamie; and one sister, Mary Alice Hilt.
Surviving are two brothers, Joe Phipps, Abingdon, and Edward Phipps, Saltville; one sister, Nina Belle Holmes, Bristol; two grandchildren, Sherree Lamie Hartwig and Sherman Charlies Lamie; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 13, at 2 p.m. at D.R. Henderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Rich Cardot officiating. Burial was at the Ridgedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saltville Rescue Squad.

O’Quinn
Ira Margaret O’Quinn, age 78, of Glade Spring, died Saturday, June 10, 2000 at the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
Surviving are her husband, Cannie O’Quinn; one son, Elmer O’Quinn, Glade Spring; two daughters, Cleo Brooks, and Darlene Spencer, both of Glade Spring; three brothers, Roy Prater and Harry Prater, both of Glade Spring, and Elmer Prater, Meadowview; three sisters, Lizzie Sheppard, Saltville, Virginia Trent, Glade Spring, and Ollie Morrison, Sidney, Ohio; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Monday, June 12, at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Cemetery in Glade Spring with the Rev. J.L. DeBord officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.

Palmer
John Reginald (Reggie) Palmer, age 46, died Friday, June 9, 2000 in Kingman, Ariz., after a long bout with multiple sclerosis.
Mr. Palmer was born in Chilhowie on Dec. 21, 1953 and married Ruth Rhea Carter in 1976 at Chilhowie. He graduated from Chilhowie High School in 1972 and from Emory & Henry College with a B.A. in education.
Reggie excelled in many sports during his high school and college careers. He was inducted into the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame in 1995 and into the Smyth County Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 1998 for his athletic achievements in football and track. Some of his records have yet to be broken. The Chilhowie Lions Club has named a scholarship in his honor.
Reggie was a teacher and coach at Wythe High School in Wytheville. Later he joined the Local Ironworkers Union in Roanoke. He taught adult education classes in Gadsden, Ala.
Reggie and Ruth moved to Kingman, Ariz., in 1983 where he worked as a teaching assistant and substitute teacher for the Kingman Elementary School district. He helped travelers for several years when he worked for the Kingman Area Chamber of Commerce in the Tourist Information Office. He was a favorite player and later coach in the Kingman Softball Leagues.
Reggie helped organize the Kingman Multiple Sclerosis Group.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Rhea Carter Palmer; his parents, Roy and Margaret Gollehon Palmer, Chilhowie; one brother, David Palmer, Bristol, Tenn.; two nieces, Regina Troball, Newport, N.C., and Sabrina Rosenbalm, Knoxville, Tenn.; also, Hohn and Stacie Barker, Gate City. He will be greatly missed by his two loyal dogs, Tucker and Callie.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 15, at 8 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 16, at 10 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Kingman Multiple Sclerosis Group through Multiple Sclerosis Society, Desert Southwest Chapter, Las Vegas Branch, 6000 S. Eastern, Suite SC, Las Vegas, Nevada 89119 or to the Chilhowie Lions Club "Reggie Palmer Scholarship", c/o Dwight Barker, P.O. Box 581, Chilhowie, VA 24319.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at Williams Funeral Home.

Stamper
Steven Joseph Stamper, infant son of Dwayne and Sharon Stamper of Atkins, died Monday, June 12, 2000 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Amy and Ronald Colgate of Atkins, and Mary and James Fortune of Groseclose; his great-grandparents, Rebecca Ashby of Wytheville, James Ashby, James and Della Fortune, all of Atkins, and Ohmar and Tessie Colgate of Chilhowie; great-great-grandparents, Bertha and Paul Campbell of Sugar Grove; two aunts, Martha Luevina Fortune of Groseclose and Christina Russell and husband Steve of Marion; two uncles, Billy Ray Stamper of Atkins, and James E. Fortune Jr. and wife Brandy of Wytheville; several cousins.
Graveside services will be held today, June 14, at 10 a.m. at Wassum Cemetery in Atkins with the Rev. Donald Medley officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Warren
Kent Monroe Warren, age 46, died Friday, June 9, 2000 at his home in Deming, N. M.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Pierce Warren to Troutdale; one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Derrick Barnes of Marion; one son, Mastin Eli Warren of Troutdale; his mother, Wanda Williamson Warren of Deming, N.M.; one sister, Lori E. Warren of Jasper, Ala.; one grandson, Lucas Kirk Barnes of Marion.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 11, at 10 a.m. at Baca Funeral Chapel in Deming, N.CM Burial followed in Deming City Cemetery in Deming, N.C.

Adams
William David Adams, age 57, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at his home in Bristol, Tenn.
Mr. Adams was born in Saltville, a son of the late Carl and Melinda Adams. He was formerly self-employed as a welder.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita Vance Adams; two daughters, Janice Chafin and Joan Bunch, both of Bristol, Tenn.; two sons, Rusty Tillison of Bristol, Tenn., and Tony Tillison of Stuart’s Draft; five sisters, Edith Prater of Bristol, Tenn., Avonda Bryant of Vinton, Jettie Anders and Carla Greer, both of Roanoke, Thea Cross of Tacoma, Wash., and Lynn Krishner of Abilene, Kansas; five brothers, Jerry Adams, Ray Adams, and Kenny Adams, all of Saltville, Ned Adams of Bristol, Tenn., and Phil Adams of Okinawa, Japan; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Essie Vance of Bristol, Tenn.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 16, at 2 p.m. in Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Rick Light and the Rev. Don Stanley officiating. Burial was in Eastern Heights Cemetery.

Foglesong
Mary Heldreth Foglesong, age 77, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at her home in Rural Retreat.
Mrs. Foglesong was born in Bluefield, W.Va., the daughter of the late Glen Heldreth and Katherine Cline.
She is survived by her husband, Sidney S. Foglesong; two sons, James Foglesong and Glen Foglesong, both of the home; a special aunt and uncle, Clara Huffman and Fred Cline, both of Rural Retreat; three half-sisters, Patsy Hawthrone, Rural Retreat, Elizabeth Shelton, Glendale, Penn., and Frances Walters, Melborne, Fla.; one half-brother, Charles W. Miller, Rural Retreat; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 16, at 1p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Countiss officiating. Interment followed in the Kimberlin Cemetery in Rural Retreat. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Emergency Services.

Harvey
Thomas W. Harvey, age78, of Abingdon, formerly of Marion, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000.
Mr. Harvey was of the Christian faith and was a graduate of Virginia Tech. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot. He was active in the Boy Scouts and received the distinguished honor of the Silver Beaver Award.
He was employed with Brunswick Corporation for many years and was best known for his leadership abilities, both professional and civic. He headed many fundraising projects, including the building of Smyth County Community Hospital. After retirement from Brunswick, he became president of Burruss Company in Lynchburg for eight years.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria Green Harvey, Abingdon; one daughter, Teri H. Carter, Greensboro, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Lynne Harvey, Kingsport, Tenn., and Kim and Cheryl Harvey, Bristol, Tenn.; one sister, Byrdie Parton, Danville; one brother, Charles B. Harvey, Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Tyler, Dylon and Heather Harvey.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 16, at 8 p.m. in the First Christian Church of Abingdon with Mr. Howard Taylor, minister, officiating. Committal services will be conducted today, June 17, at 10 a.m. in the Morning View Cemetery in Bluff City, Tenn., with full military honors to be conducted by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post #6975 in Bristol, Tenn. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to the First Christian Church, 185 Jonesboro Road, Abingdon, VA 24210.

Hash
Willard Neal Hash, age 88, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at his home in Marion.
Mr. Hash was a veteran of World War II and was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Surviving are two sisters, Olive Gillespie of Rural Retreat, and Jackie Gay of Tip City, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; a devoted niece, Patricia Ann Scott; two great-nephews, Dave Sears and Joe Sears; two great-great-nieces, Ashley Sears and Jessica Sears.
Funeral services will be held today, June 17, at 11 a.m. in Barnett’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Lundy officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery at Whitetop with the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667 rendering full military rites.

Hayden
William Allen "Bill" Hayden, age 96, of Saltville, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000.
Mr. Hayden was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie B. Hayden; one son, William Harold Hayden; and two great-grandchildren.
He was a local businessman serving the Saltville area, was a member of the First Church of God Allison Gap and also attended the Calvary Bible Church.
Surviving are two sons, Roy K. Hayden, Saltville, and James H. Hayden, Cedar Bluff; two daughters, Mrs. Charles J. (Opal) Hogston, Saltville, and Mrs. Gerald (Christine) Blue, Ashland, Kansas; one brother, Harvey Hayden, Glade Spring; two sisters, Susie Troxell, Chilhowie, and Nancy Osborne, Clover, S.C.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted today, June 17, at 10 a.m. in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. David Mumpower and the Rev. James Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Rose Cemetery.

Jones
Lavaun C. Jones, age 84, of Sugar Grove, died Monday, June 12, 2000 at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Jones was born Jan. 5, 1916 at Flatridge to Dexter Cole and Lillie Russell. She was the widow of Edward Jones.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Dexter and Thu Colbert, Houston, Texas; one sister, Edith Plummer, Troutdale; a special niece, Nadine Anderson, Flatridge; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 16, at 11 a.m. in Baptist Union Church in Flatridge with the Rev. Grady Byrd and the Rev. Mike Owens officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
