Charlotte Mae Rieth
Charlotte Mae Rieth (Vernier) of Waterford died May 23, 2002, at age 74 after a 10-year fight against various cancers.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughters, Holly Rieth and Regan Cheryl Rieth (Wakeman).
She graduated with honors from Pontiac High School in January 1946. During WWII she worked for Whitfield, Walter & Dawson while attending high school and after graduation she worked for Huttenlocher Insurance. She met her childhood sweetheart, Reginald Carl Rieth, while playing softball in Pontiac in 1942 and after his discharge from the Army Air Force they were married on Aug. 9, 1947.
After her children were all attending school, she started working at Hudson's budget store in 1965 and retired from the personnel office in 1987 after 23 years of service. Mrs. Rieth was an avid reader, antique collector and expert genealogist.
She also enjoyed working with the Girl Scouts. She volunteered in the church nursery, kitchen and missions closet. She toured the entire USA by motor home and also traveled overseas to visit missionaries in their homes to see first-hand how they lived and how they shared the Gospel with others.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Reginald; sons, Randall C. (Donna) of Waterford, Frederick H. (Karry) of Waterford, Rodney L. of Kalamazoo and daughter Sandra C. (Terry) Vollnogle of Grand Rapids; brother, Donald (Ingrid) Vernier; sister, Alice Hunter; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Riverside Chapel, Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home, with Pastor Doug Olson officiating. Burial was at Crescent Hills Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lakecrest Baptist Church building or missions fund, 35 Airport Road, Waterford, MI, 48327 or Cranbrook Hospice (248-452-5300).

Thelma Ruth Davis
Thelma Ruth Davis, 81, of Waterford, formerly of Pontiac, died June 28, 2002.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Louie) King of Clarkston; grandchildren, Kristina (Bubby) Farley and Ryan and Stacy Nims; great grandchildren, Chelsea, Nicholas, Kayla, Kassandra, Mitchell, Alicia, Trevin and Ashley; and sister, Charlotte Zylla of Texas.
Mrs. Davis volunteered for Focus Hope and was always eager to help others.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. July 13 in the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston. Friends may visit from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to Canterbury on the Lake. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston.

Cleona Gloria Wing
Cleona Gloria Wing, 85, of Waterford, formerly of Hazel Park, died June 28, 2002.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Vernon; children, Darla (Nick) Pelushewski of Clarkston and Gary (Julie) Wing of Waterford; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two great-great grandsons.
Family services have been held. Interment is at Roseland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Betty L. Koop
Betty L. Koop, 75, of Waterford died June 22, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard and daughter Kathie (Greg) Scott of Clarkston.
She is survived by her children, Fred of Harrison, Karen (Bob) Harrington of Clarkston, David (Judy) Koop in Virginia, Kerry (Mike Irwin) Jennings of Waterford and Leonard II (Rebecca) of Waterford; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and siblings, Jean (Jerry) Miller and Virginia (Duane) Miles.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston. Interment is at Waterford Center Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston.

Ethridge A. "Ed" Corder
Ethridge A. "Ed" Corder, 79, of Waterford died June 25, 2002.
Ed was a long time member of Waterford Church of Christ and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pat; a son, Mike (Diane) of Clarkston; and a grandson, Tim.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Waterford Church of Christ. Friends may visit 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan or Waterford Church of Christ for Gods Helping Hands.

Randall James (Papa) Viers
Randall James (Papa) Viers, 59, of Waterford, formerly of Novi, died May 20, 2002.
Mr. Viers owned and operated Home Improvements by Rand, Waterford.
He was a member of Woodside Bible Church, formerly Troy Baptist Church, Troy.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Ann Viers; sons, Christopher James Viers of Farmington Hills and David Allan Viers; daughter, Kimberly Lynn Brekke; his mother, Ethel V. Viers of Lake Orion; brother, Charles L. Viers of Lake Orion; sisters, Carole Ann Chaney of Rochester Hills and Mary Lee Krause and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at Woodside Bible Church, Troy.
Interment was at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery, Troy.
Arrangements were handled by Price Funeral Home, Troy.

William P. Deacon
William P. Deacon, 66, of Waterford died April 14, 2002.
Mr. Deacon was a real estate broker and manager of Century 21 Hallmark West in White Lake. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Winters Deacon; children, Stewart (Terese) Deacon of Virginia, Steve (Mary Carmen) Deacon of Mexico and Kevin Deacon of Milford; and grandchildren, William, Darlene and Tony.
A memorial service was held April 20 at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Sobriety House. Arrangements were made by the Riverside Chapel, Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home, Waterford.

Foy J. Benfield
Foy J. Benfield, 93, of Waterford died March 30, 2002.
Benfield "Ben" retired from Pontiac Motor after 35 years of service. He was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bernice; son, James of Waterford; grandchildren, Gary (Suzanne) of Virginia, Susan (Ed) Hogan of Florida, Robert (Julia) of Clarkston and Judith (Chris) Giolitti of Davisburg; 12 great grandchildren; and two siblings, Opal Knox of Rhode Island and Lewis (Lois) Benfield of Davisburg.
A funeral service was held Tuesday in the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston. Interment was at Pritchard Cemetery.

Florence M. Riley
Florence M. Riley, 67, of Waterford, died April 1, 2002.
Mrs. Riley was a registered nurse who worked in numerous Oakland County hospitals over her career. In addition to being a dedicated nurse, she was very devoted to her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Riley.
She is survived by her children, Maynard (Lorraine) of Mason, Ohio; Norma (Gerald) Smith of Lapeer, Kathleen (Bill Uplegger) of Waterford, David (Holly) of Waterford, Timothy of Waterford and Sfc. Patrick (Tressa) of Ft. Hood, Texas; siblings, Barbara (Tony) Smith of Bedforshire, England, and Jim (Mary) Hurlburt of Copper City; many nieces and nephews, including special nephew Ian Burns of Dafter; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
A funeral mass was scheduled for 11 a.m. today in Our Lady of the Lakes Church, 5481 Dixie Hwy, Waterford. Fr. Lawrence Delonnay will be officiating. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Waterford. Funeral arrangements were handled by Coats Funeral Home, Waterford.
Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Humane Society.
