Coy Powell
Coy Douglas Powell, 73, of Hardy died May 31, 2002, at Batesville.
Born July 5, 1928, in Oklahoma, he was son of Florence Naomi Rambo and Sylvester V. Powell. He was a member of Union Hill Community Church.
Survivors include four sons – Billy Powell of Waveland, Miss., Coy Don Powell of Hardy, and Lonnie Powell and Ronnie Powell, both of Bauxite; two daughters – Barbara Byers of Mammoth Spring and Betty Dawson of Salem; two sisters – Reba Mullins and Beatrice Murphy, both of Mammoth Spring; 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was June 8 at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church with Carl Faulkner officiating. Burial followed at Field Creek Cemetery in Mammoth Spring.
Arrangements were under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Hardy.

Tressie Cummings
Tressie Lee Lute Shupe Cummings, 74, of Anderson, Calif., formerly of Hardy, died Aug. 22, 2002.
Born Aug. 20, 1928, in Hardy, she moved Fresno, Calif., and later to Shasta, Calif., in 1963. She was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church of Shasta Lake City, Calif., a member of Frontier Senior Center in Anderson, and the Anderson Moose Lodge.
Survivors include two sons – Buford Shupe of Lincoln, Calif., and Bruce Shupe of Redwood Valley, Calif.; two brothers – Arvel Lute of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Bernard Lute of Hardy; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was Aug. 30 at Anderson District Cemetery with Tom Turner officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Andersons’s Chapel in Anderson, Calif.

Leslie Byron Cutright Jr.
Leslie Byron Cutright Jr., 79, of Cherokee Village died Sept. 29, 2002, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System.
Born Aug. 4, 1923, in Patoka, Ind., he was the son of Leslie Byron Cutright Sr. and Leola Hall Cutright. He was a technician for Whirlpool and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Evansville, Ind.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Louise Cutright of Cherokee Village; two sons – Keith A. Cutright of Arnold, Mo., and Leslie R. Cutright of Cherokee Village; a brother, David Cutright of Princeton, Ind.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
No service is planned. Memorials may be made to Health South and Toney Le Quieu, P.O. Box 6180, Jonesboro, AR 72401.

Dollie Biggers
Dollie D. Biggers, 105, of Liberty, Mo., formerly of Hardy, died June 7, 2002, at Liberty Terrace Care Center.
Born Feb. 4, 1897, in Hardy, she was the daughter of Robert S. and Alta May Biggers. She was a bookkeeper, mercantile owner and farmer, and was a Methodist.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon June 18 at Higginbottom Funeral Home in Hardy. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in Hardy Cemetery.

Danny Haley
Danny Boyce Haley, 58, died Dec. 8, 2002, in Batesville.
Born Dec. 2, 1944, in Batesville, he was the son of R.C. Haley and Eva Miller Haley. He married Ann Malone June 17, 1962, in Antioch.
During most of his working years he was a self-employed logger. He also served three and one-half years as the Izard County Sheriff, and was currently employed as a 16th Judicial District juvenile probation officer. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and Melbourne Masonic Lodge 241.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Karin and Keith Brown of Zion; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Karen Haley of Calico Rock; his father, Boyce Haley of Zion; a sister, Cathy Sharp of Evening Shade; and two grandchildren – Hannah Brown and Johnathon Brown.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
The funeral service was Dec. 11 at Antioch Baptist Church with Joe Wehunt and Gale Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Antioch Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gray Dellinger, Matt Dellinger, Joe Martz, Fred Lamb, Rayburn Finley, Eddie Cooper, Earnie Blackley and Terry Williams.
Honorary pallbearers were Rex Tate, Reuben Lindsey, Charles Woods, Bob Davidson, L.W. Clark, Wes Brown and Dale Finley.
Arrangements were under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.

Doyle Max Lawrence
Doyle Max Lawrence, 85, died Dec. 14, 2002, in Batesville.
Born Nov. 18, 1917, in Melbourne, he was the son of Max and Ella Smith Lawrence.
During his working years he was a cattle farmer. He married Verlene Stroud Sept. 22, 1942, in Salem. He was a member of Belview Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janice Lawrence of Shreveport, La.; three sons and a daughter-in-law – Glenn Lawrence of Kansas City, Mo., Larry Lawrence of Melbourne, and David Lawrence and his wife, Toni, of Melbourne; a sister, LaNelle Hall of Nixa, Mo.; a brother, Malcolm Lawrence of Melbourne; and seven grandchildren – Michael Lawrence, Brandon Lawrence, Chad Lawrence, Blake Lawrence, Mary Ann Lawrence, Whitney Moorehead and Lacey Lawrence.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters – Elsie Ruth Menges, Gwendolyn Mathis and Genevieve Parker.
The funeral service was Dec. 16 at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel with Gayle Cooper officiating. Interment followed in Lawrence Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Lawrence, Brandon Lawrence, Chad Lawrence, Josh Moorehead and Blake Lawrence.
Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Parker, Bobby Joe Lawrence, Paul Cooper, James Cooper, David Clark, Darrell Ball, Jack McCollum, Lloyd Parker Jr. and Don Hall.
Arrangements were under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home.

Mack K. Darnell
Mack K. Darnell, 91, of Batesville died Feb. 9, 2002, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born July 24, 1910, in Sitka, he was the son of Sanford Joseph Darnell and Laura Georgiann Higginbottom Darnell.
He was married to Alma Jean Fisher, who preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 1973. He was a farmer and a member of Peaceful Harbor Pentecostal Church in Batesville.
Survivors include two daughters – Patsy Bennett of Batesville, and Maxine McCord of Hardy; a sister, Evelyn of Poughkeepsie; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Dewayne Darnell; and several brothers and sisters.
The funeral was Feb. 12 in the chapel of Higginbotham Funeral Home of Hardy with the Rev. Wally Varner officiating. Burial followed at Baker Cemetery in Williford.
Pallbearers were his grandsons.
Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service Inc. of Hardy.

Joseph Delaney
Joseph Delaney, 87, died Feb. 18, 2002 in Palm Desert, Calif.
Born in Marcus, Iowa, he became the third generation to own Delaney’s Grocery & General Store. At the start of World War II he went to Chicago, Ill., to join the war effort, working at Amphenol Borg Electronics which later became Essex International.
While at Amphenol he designed several machines and created processes that simplified methods used in plastic extrusion which are still being used today. He retired as plant manager at Essex in 1979 and moved to Cherokee Village, where he and his wife were active in the Cherokee Squares until they moved in 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherylle of Palm Desert, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Tommy Ingram of Nashville; two sisters-in-law, Clara Alesch of Marcus, Iowa, and Evie Alesch of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren, Erin May and Adam (Dawn) Cash of Mount Juliet, Calif., Allen (Sandie) Cash of Benson, Ariz.; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Alesch Delaney; and seven brothers and sisters.
A memorial Mass was Feb. 25 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Steven Klasek officiating. Burial followed in Mount Juliet. Memorial Gardens. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Rose Mortuary of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.

Eunice Drake
Eunice Lorine Drake, 87, of Royal Oak, Mich., formerly of Cherokee Village, died April 22, 2002, at Georgian-Bloomfield Nursing Center in Bloomfield, Mich.
Born Oct. 23, 1914, in Memphis, she was the daughter of J. Clyde Bennett and Myrtle A. Jones Bennett. She married Francis E. Drake June 5, 1936, in Michigan. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Pauline Ann Koerner of Troy, Mich.; two sons – James B. Drake of Cookville, Tenn., and Thomas K. Drake of Ash Flat; two brothers – Roy G. Bennett and Clyde Bennett, both of Brooks, Ky.; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and both parents.
The funeral was April 24 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Highland with the Rev. J.P. Friend officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service Inc. of Hardy.

Stanley Drumhiller
Stanley Eugene Drumhiller, 71, of Cherokee Village died May 25, 2002.
Born Jan. 26, 1931, in Mendon, Mo., he was the son of Mary Marshall Drumhiller and Ora Drumhiller.
He was in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Cherokee Village United Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Willena Drumhiller; a son, Curtis Drumhiller of Bayville, N.J.; a daughter, Clobeaut Laszacs of Memphis; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
The funeral was June 1 at Heath Oak Chapel. Burial followed at Oaklawn Cemetery in Cherokee Village.
Memorials may be made to Eastern Ozarks Home Health and Hospice, 120 Hospital Drive, P.O. Box 7 Cherokee Village, AR, 72529.

Brent DuBois
Brent DuBois, 24, of Ravenden died Jan. 29, 2002, at Ash Flat Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Oct. 7, 1977, in Waterloo, Iowa, he was the son of Bruce DuBois and Betty Dunegan DuBois.
Survivors include his parents of Ravenden; a brother, Bryce Dubois of Batesville; and three sisters – Angie Dubois of Waterloo, Melissa King of Jonesboro, and Jayme DuBois of Ravenden.
No services are planned at this time.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Tri-County’s Cherokee Chapel of Highland.

Eleanor Galgay
Eleanor Florence Galgay, 83, of Ash Flat, formerly of Cambridge, Mass., died July 1, 2002, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born Sept. 14, 1918, in Somerville, Mass., she was the daughter of Jesse and Mary E. Agramonte. She was a homemaker and attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include three sons – Frank Galgay of Malden, Mass., Paul Galgay of Braintree, Mass., and Robert Galgay of Burlington, Mass.; two daughters – Lois Galgay of Billerica, Mass., and Linda Gonzales of Williford; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at a later date in Cambridge.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Hardy.

Ena M. Church
Ena M. Church, 85, of Cherokee Village died Oct. 9, 2002, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
Born Dec. 19, 1916, in Lawrenceville, Ill., she was the daughter of Viola Freshley Phipps and Harry Phipps. She was a homemaker and a former bookkeeper for Farm Bureau Elevator.
Survivors include a son, William Buckler of Summerville, Fla.; two daughters – Sue Schondel of Cherokee Village, and Grace Vereb of Summerville.; a brother, Harry Phipps of Florida; three sisters – Beth Ramlow, Ellen Schaller and Lela Whitwham, all of Ohio; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Owen Church.
The funeral was Oct. 12 at Cherokee Village United Methodist Church with Jim West officiating. Burial followed in Swan Creek Cemetery at Mt. Clover, Ohio.
Arrangements were under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Hardy.
Memorials may be made to Cherokee Village United Methodist Church.

Evelyn Miller
Evelyn R. Miller, 75, of Hardy, died Feb. 22, 2002, at Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ash Flat.
The oldest daughter of J. Earl and Ella Funk Wible, she was born July 7, 1926, in Oregon, Ill.
She was employed as an executive secretary for Kable Printing Company in Mt. Morris, Ill., before moving to Cherokee Village in 1967. Employment in Arkansas began as a secretary for the John Cooper Company, Horseshoe Bend Development and Hidden Valley Development where she later became a real estate broker.
In 1975 she was employed by Investors Diversified Syndicate of America as a personal financial planner and worked for that company until they were purchased by American Express. She continued to work for Amex until she retired in 1992. While employed as an independent contractor for IDS/Amex, she attained certification as an estate planner and achieved millionaire and master millionaire status for many years through her production. In 1994, when IDS had its 100-year centennial, she was made a member of the Elite IDS Hall of Fame.
During her 32 years in Arkansas she served as president of two units in the American Legion Auxiliary, district president for four years, northeast area vice president, state chaplain and historian and then department president. She also served as chairman of many committees over 29 years in the Auxiliary.
She was post commander of the DAV Auxiliary and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. During her years in the PTA she served as parliamentarian, vice president, district director and on the state Board of Arkansas Council of C&Y, National Family Partnership/Red Ribbon Campaign and the Advisory Commission of the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches.
She was also active for over 25 years with the local and state League of Women Voters as vice president and program chairman, president for several years and on the state board. She was the first lady Kiwanian in Cherokee Village and served that organization on several committees, mostly devoted to children. She was a mentor for two boys and worked with the Boy Scouts in the Cherokee VIllage area. She was a member of Germantown United Methodist Church in Germantown, Tenn.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Jaurez of Cordova, Tenn.; a son, Charles Drumheller of Hardy; a grandson, Christopher Jaurez of Tucson; a sister, Betty Millard of Mt. Morris; three great- grandchildren; and two dear friends, Jeff and Chris Henry of Hardy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin E. Miller; a brother, James F. Wible Sr. of Louisville, Ky.; and a grandson, Patrick N. Jaurez of Tucson.
A memorial service was March 1 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cherokee Village. Burial was March 4 in West Grove Cemetery in Forreston, Ill., in the family plot.
Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch in Batesville.

Elizabeth Reed
Elizabeth Dawn Reed, 16, of Kansas, died June 8, 2002, at her home.
Born Sept. 14, 1985, in Cherokee Point, N.C., she was a 10th grade student at Blue Valley Northwest High School. She loved to read, watch movies, do arts and crafts and visit with friends and family.
Survivors include her mother, Susan Reed of Overland Park, Kan.; her grandparents, Mary Ann Wakefield of Atlanta, (formerly of Cherokee Village), Raymond E. Smith of Elk Grove Village, Ill., and Armor and Glenda Reed of Palm Coast, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Memorial service was June 15 at Lenexa Baptist Church.

Ruby Eary
Ruby Onetta Eary, 85, died March 16, 2002, at Sidney.
Born Sept. 21, 1916, in Gid, she was the daughter of William and Dollie Coleman. She married Lloyd Olan Eary in Guion Oct. 1, 1934. She spent her working years as a homemaker, mother and wife. She was a member of New Home Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters – Lovetta Hoffman of Freemont, Neb., and Pamela Dertinger of Horseshoe Bend; two sons – Lavon Eary of Omaha, Neb., and Ronnie Eary of Batesville; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five sisters – Ora Willard, Vernie Warnett, Verdie Lovelady, Myrtle Johnson, and an infant sister; four brothers – Albert Coleman, Verlin Coleman, Floye Coleman and Lloyd Coleman; and a granddaughter, Joy Byes.
The funeral was March 19 at Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel with Hoover Lewis officiating. Burial followed in Reeves Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dave Eary, Scott Eary, Mike Hoffman, Gerald Coleman, Leon Brooks and Lloyd Brooks.
Honorary pallbearers were Kenny Hoffman, Danny Eary, and Randy Eary.
Arrangements were under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home.

Missouri Ellis
Missouri Thelma Ellis, 80, of Rockford, Ill., formerly of Hardy, died May 23, 2002, at her home.
Born July 22, 1921, in Sharp County, she was the daughter of William Robert and Missouri Belle Pruitt Murphy. She married John Henry Ellis June 13, 1946, in Sharp County. She was a homemaker and of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include a son, Danny Ellis of Rockford, Ill.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
The funeral was May 26 in the chapel of Higginbotham Funeral Home in Hardy. Burial followed in Baker Cemetery at Williford.
Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service Inc. in Hardy.

Frank Goodrich
Frank Arthur Goodrich, 92, of Cherokee Village died June 29, 2002, at North Arkansas Life Care Center in Horseshoe Bend.
Born March 17, 1910, in Richland County, Wis., he was the son of Benjamin F. Goodrich and Dora Smelzer Goodrich. He retired as a sanitation engineer for the city of Beloit, Wis. He was a talented musician who received fifth place in the nation for a tuba contest and was offered a chair with the Cities Service Band of America.
He moved to Cherokee Village 18 years ago from Beloit. He was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include his son, John R. Goodrich of Hartland, Wis.; three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.
No services are planned at this time.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tri-County’s Cherokee Chapel of Highland.

Floyd Murphy
Floyd Willis Murphy, 86, of Ash Flat died March 19, 2002.
Born April 8, 1915, in Ravenden Springs, he was the son of Tom Jeff Murphy and Martha Lula James Murphy. He was married July 15, 1946, in Hardy to Blanche Taylor.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was a school bus driver for Williford School District for many years and was a farmer. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law– Sue and Buford Hancock of Salem, and Joy and Mike Kunkel of Evening Shade; four grandchildren – Peggy Long of Hardy, Lisa Ladd of Williford, Cheryl Foley of Thayer, Mo., and Paula Powell of Ash Flat; and seven great-grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsey, Hope, Logan, Jarred, Jacob and Jordan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandchild, Carly Ladd; a brother, Willie Murphy; and a sister, Pearl Ehrhardt.
The funeral was March 22 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Tom O’Neal officiating. Burial was in Thayer Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Buford Hancock, David Ladd, Roger Foley, Mike Kunkel, Scott Long and Steve Powell.
Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer.
