Edgar Gambill
Edgar "Leon" Gambill, 71, of Bono died May 17, 2001, at his home.
Born Nov. 25, 1929, he was a graduate of Jonesboro High School and a lifetime resident of the Jonesboro area. He began his career as a mechanic and driver for Great Southern Coaches.
He later worked for the National Life Insurance Company and began to perform as a musician, fronting a number of bands in the popular format of music for the area. For several years he was a major contributor to the annual Blues Fest activities in Craighead Forest.
He was a past member of the Jonesboro Jaycees, past president of the Eagles and a member of the IBC. He also was active in the early development and coaching of the local Little League.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Gambill; two sons ­ Danny Gambill of Cleveland and Randy Gambill of Bono; two brothers ­ Bennie Gambill of Cherokee Village and Tommie Gambill of Vestavia Hills, Ala.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; a niece; and two nephews.
The graveside service was May 21 at Shiloh Cemetery in Jonesboro with Pete Shelton officiating.
Pallbearers were David Bailey, Terry Bailey, Allen Bailey, Allen Lackey, Dennis Mathis and Sonny Ackerman.
Honorary pallbearers were Steve Stacy and Robert Hargraves.

Xavier Gaspard
Xavier Leroy Gaspard, 68, of Williford, died March 2, 2001, at his home.
Born Dec. 7, 1932, in New Orleans, he was the son of Pauline Borque and Justlein Gaspard. He was a deck hand, cook and welder on a tug boat and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva; five sons ­ Justin Gaspard of Fort Sill, Okla., Kenneth Gaspard of Duluth, Ga., Shawn Roberts of Imboden, Tim Roberts of Abbeville, La., and Tom Roberts of Rome, Ga.; two daughters ­ Sarah Roberts of New Iberia, La., and Charlotte Latham of Canton, Ga.; a brother, Raymond Gaspard of Odessa, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The funeral was March 5 at Heath Oak Hill Chapel in Hardy. Burial followed at Baker Cemetery in Ozark Acres.
Memorials may be made to the family or to the American Cancer Foundation.

Susie Gentry
Clara C. “Susie” Gentry, 59, of Cherokee Village died Oct. 21, 2001, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born March 2, 1942, in Virginia, Ill., she was the daughter of Ira Richard Gentry and Ila Christine Spires Gentry. She was a daycare worker, and a member of First Baptist Church of Cherokee Village.
Survivors include five brothers – Bill Gentry, Ray Gentry and Donald Gentry, all of Cherokee Village, and Bobby Gentry and Ralph Gentry, both of Bettendorf, Iowa; three sisters – Mary Gentry and Ruth Gentry of Cherokee Village, and Wanda Leamon of Davenport, Iowa; two sisters-in-law – Maurene Gentry of Bettendorf, and Lori Gentry of Cherokee Village.
The body was cremated with Runge Mortuary and Crematory Chapel of Davenport, Iowa. Burial followed in Davenport Memorial Park. Local arrangements were under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Hardy.

Robert Gettinger
Robert Warren Gettinger, 81, of Cherokee Village died Oct. 19, 2000, at Shady Oaks Healthcare Center in Thayer, Mo.
Born on April 6, 1919, in Wheaton, Ill., he was the son of Oscar C. Gettinger and Lucia Webster Gettinger. He retired as the vice president of St. Paul Federal Bank. He was a member of the Lions Club, the American Legion, VFW, past president of the Property Owners Association in Cherokee Village and the Cherokee Village Men's Golf Association. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Spring River Presbyterian Church in Hardy.
Survivors include a son, Robert Oscar Gettinger of Wheaton; a daughter, Sally L. Oppenheim of Wheaton; a sister, Eleanor Galbreath of Montrose, Colo.; six grandchildren; and former wife, Artelia Louise Gettinger Vessels, of Cherokee Village.
A memorial service was held Oct. 25 at Spring River Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Stipp officiating. Burial will be in Wheaton at a later date.
Arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Hardy.

Dalio J. Ghetti
Dalio J. Ghetti, 86, of Horseshoe Bend, formerly of Belvidere, N.J., died Jan. 16 at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born July 23, 1914, in New Village, N.J., he was the son of the late Clito and Benilde Ghiacci Ghetti. He was a retired maintenance worker from the Warren County Courthouse and Annex. He had also been employed by Trans Bridge Bus Lines, Tri-City Coaches and Real Transit as a local and charter driver. He also owned and operated school buses. Prior to that he had managed Melrose Farms in Chester, N.J., and he was a member of Buttzville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Clifford Ghetti of Belvidere, N.J.; a daughter, Patricia Billing of Horseshoe Bend; six sisters, Enes Bolmer and Annie Lance, both of Long Valley, N.J.; Rena Mangiacotti and Bruna Bowers, both of Washington; Rita Kinnamin of Phillipsburg, N.J.; and Zita Beam of California; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 55 years, Dorothy M. Ghetti, and a brother, Nelson Ghetti.
The funeral was private and burial followed in the Hazen, N.J. Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Buttzville United Methodist Church on Green Pond Road in Buttzville, NJ 07829, the American Diabetes Association, and to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 4125, Horseshoe Bend, AR 72512.

William Patrick Gibbons
William Patrick Gibbons, 88, of Cherokee Village died Jan. 16, 2002, at Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ash Flat.
Born in Cincinnati, he was the son of Anna H. and Thomas Gibbons. He worked for Wright Aeronautical as a plant foreman, manufacturing ammunition for World War II. He then worked for National Lead of Ohio, also as a plant foreman, refining uranium for the AEC. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner, a member of Scottish Rite Masons, Master of Cheviot Lodge and was a member of Cherokee Village United Methodist Church.
After retiring he moved to Cherokee Village where he worked as a lake patroller and managed the North and South Golf Course pro shops when they opened. He was a member and tournament director for the ASGA and was instrumental in the Arkansas State Junior Golf Association helping young people earn golf scholarships. He also was an EMT and a charter member of the hospice board. He was the South Golf Course ranger for the last few years of his life.
As a member of Cherokee Village United Methodist Church he sang in the choir. He was also a charter member of Cherokee Village Community Chorus singing with them for over 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Denise Adams Gibbons; two daughters – Gloria Beshalske of Cincinnati, and Pat Kiefer of Knoxville, Tenn.; a stepdaughter – Stephanie Kendrick of Bono; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two wives – Adrienne Corry Gibbons and Marjory Blankenbuehler Gibbons.
The funeral was Jan. 20 at Cherokee Village United Methodist Church with Jim West officiating. Burial followed in Cherokee Village United Meth-odist Church’s Columbarium.
Arrangements were under the direction of Heath Funeral Home Oak Hill Chapel of Hardy.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Research Foundation, 512 S. Rock, Suite 101, Little Rock, AR 72202.

Floyd Gilbreath
Floyd Gilbreath, 82, of Ash Flat died May 9, 2001, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born Oct. 9, 1918, in Ballard, he was the son of Marion Gilbreath and Eliza Martin Gilbreath. He married Delois Coggins Nov. 10, 1945, in Ash Flat and had four children.
He was a farmer and a construction worker for Cooper Communities in Cherokee Village. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Ash Flat Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law ­ Denny and Carrol Gilbreath of Ash Flat; three daughters and sons-in-law ­ Dianna and William Goodson of Agnos, Karen and Travis Wiles of Agnos, and Sharon and Robert Cox of Prairie Grove; four grandchildren ­ Wesley Goodson, Beverly Gilbreath, Austin Gilbreath and Amanda Coggins; four brothers ­ Russel Gilbreath of Grenada, Miss., Ray Gilbreath of Ash Flat, Virgil Gilbreath of Ash Flat, and Gerald Gilbreath of Salem; five sisters ­ Margie Gill of Ash Flat, Claudine Coggins of Ash Flat, Virgie Mae Gill of Ash Flat, Icapheen Martin of Glencoe, and Helen Benton of Glencoe; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delois, on Aug. 9, 1984; a grandson, Jeremy Coggins, and a brother, Bertis Gilbreath.
The funeral was May 11 at Ash Flat Church of Christ with Keith Gregson officiating. Burial followed at Agnos Cemetery.

Annie Gilson
Annie Jane Gilson, 78, of Ozark Acres died Feb. 28, 2001, at her home.
Born Sept. 20, 1922, at Council Bluffs, Iowa, she was the daughter of Eveline Reekie Springer and Bert Springer. She was a homemaker and attended First Baptist Church of Wirth.
Survivors include two sisters ­ Beatrice Buffington of Silver City, Iowa, and Bernice Copeland of Osage Beach, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Gilson.
The funeral was March 4 at Heath Oak Hill Chapel with Freddie Gay officiating. Burial followed at Baker Cemetery in Ozark Acres.
Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church Building Fund.

Harold Glackin
Harold Herman Glackin, 98, of Horseshoe Bend died May 29, 2001, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem.
Born in Morley, Iowa, he was retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria, Ill., as a machine operator. He was a member of Horseshoe Bend Kiwanis and the Odd Fellows of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include a son, Lloyd Glackin of Dublin, Ohio; two daughters ­ Marilyn Kirk of Mapleton, Ill., and Lorraine Stanwood of Long Beach,Calif; a brother, Glenn Glackin of Peoria; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; a son; two brothers; and a sister.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. June 9 at Church of the Nazarene in Horseshoe Bend with Ed Harrell officiating.
Burial will be in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to the Horseshoe Bend Kiwanis Club's scholarship fund.

Kerwin Glattly
Kerwin Glattly, 90, of Horseshoe Bend died Jan. 1, 2001, at North Arkansas Life Care Center in Horseshoe Bend.
Born Sept. 22, 1910, in Alta Vista, Iowa, he was the son of Albert Kerwin Glattly and Lora Knos Glattly. He worked as a spot welder and embalmer, and was a member of the Horseshoe Bend United Methodist Church, Masons, Lions Club and IBEW.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothea Glattly; a son, Richard Glattly of Willow River, Minn.; two daughters - Janis Hoover of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and Susan Clark of Aurora, Ill.; a brother Elsworth Glattly of Houston; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
The funeral was Jan. 5 at Horseshoe Bend United Methodist Church with Rev. Vaughn Marsden officiating. Local arrangements were by Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel.
An additional service was Jan. 8 at Morgan Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Burial followed in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements were by Morgan Funeral Home.

Robert Glick
Robert Crockett Glick, 76, of Cave City, formerly of Batesville, died Oct. 19, 2001, at his home.
Born Oct. 23, 1924, at Tiffin, Ohio, he was the son of Hovey H. and Alice Crockett Glick. He was retired from Ideal Baking Co. at Batesville and was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include a son, Robert Glick of Horseshoe Bend; two daughters – Rebecca Glick of Horseshoe Bend, and Margaret Roberson of Flippin; and three grandchildren – Nathan, Samuel and Matthew Roberson, both of Flippin.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; a sister, Betty Glick; and an infant granddaughter.
A memorial service was Oct. 21 at Flippin Church of God with Heith Hogan officiating. Burial followed in Reeves Cemetery at Guion.
Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Amanda Goings
Amanda Nichole Goings, 18, of Williford died March 25, 2001, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born March 13, 1983, in Elk City, Okla., she was the daughter of Betty June Davis Goings and Jeff Goings of Williford. She was a student at Williford High School and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Wirth.
Survivors include her parents; her fiancé, Douglas Scott Clements of Williford; two brothers ­ Anthony Wayne Davis of Cherokee Village, and Mark Anthony Davis of Ash Flat; three grandparents ­ J.L. and Ruby Goings of Williford, and Betty Davis of Fairmont, Ind.
The funeral was March 29 at the Williford High School gym with Gary Arnold officiating. Burial followed in Buchanan Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.

Virginia Golden
Virginia Webster Golden, 63, of Highland died at her home Nov. 22, 2000.
Born in Memphis on July 30, 1937, she was the daughter of Lucinda Cole and James T. Webster. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Hardy and a charter member of the Sharp Ladies Investment Club. She had held several offices on the local, district and state level as a member of the Spring River Business and Professional Women. She was recently named"Woman of the Millennium" by that organization. She was a sports fan, particularly of her children and grandchildren. She retired in December 1999 after almost 24 years as a bookkeeper for Pap Beardsley Chevrolet at Highland.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Jim Golden; a daughter and her husband, Sandy and Chuck Murphy of Highland; a son and his wife, Gary and Cheryl Golden of Cherokee Village; a sister, Jackie Hartmann of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and two grandchildren - Chad Murphy and Ginger Murphy of Highland.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
The funeral was Nov. 25 at the Heath Oak Hill Chapel in Highland with the Rev. Marcia Dodd and the Rev. Judy Clark officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery at Mammoth Spring.
Pallbearers were Donnie Sellers, J.E. Murphy, Blake Beardsley, Jessie Martin, Travis Callahan and Jerry Turner.
Memorial donations may be made to Eastern Ozarks Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Walter Gooley
Walter P. Gooley, 88, of Cherokee Village, died April 14, 2001, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born Sept. 26, 1912, in Fort Wayne, Ind., he was the son of John and Sophia Kase Gooley. He was a switch man and conductor for the Indiana-Harbor-Belt Railroad in Hammond, Ind. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Cherokee Village, the Lion's Club and a past director of Arkansas Wildlife Federation.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Mae Gooley, and a daughter, Betty Jo Gooley of San Jose, Calif.
The funeral was April 18 at Peace Lutheran Church with Brian Pummill officiating. The body was cremated.
Memorial may be made to Peace Lutheran Church's building fund.

Frances Gove
Frances Margaret Gove, 73, of Mitchell, S.D., formerly of Cherokee Village, died April 3, 2001, at her home after a lengthy illness with Lou Gehrig's disease.
Born Oct. 26, 1927, in St. Paul, Minn., she graduated from St. Joseph's Academy there in 1945. She moved to Rochester, Minn., in 1947 where she graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing Nov. 25, 1950.
She married James Gove Feb. 23, 1952. They resided in Rochester until 1982 when they moved to Wrangell, Ark. They retired in 1990 and moved to Cherokee Village where they lived until July 2000. They then moved to Mitchell to be closer to children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; three sons and daughters-in-law ­ Cindy and James Gove Jr. of Rochester, Jay and Nancy Gove of Bellvue, Idaho, and Jonathan and Chrissy Gove of Ketchum, Idaho; a son, Jeffrey Gove of Rochester; a daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Joseph Tricarico of Mitchell; and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
Memorials may be made to Acera Queen of Peace Hospice Program, 525 North Foster, Mitchell, S.D. 57301.

John Graddy
John B. Graddy, 86, of Evening Shade died June 2, 2001, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born Jan. 31, 1915, in Evening Shade, he was the son of Frank Benjamin and Ellen L. Wilkes Graddy. He was a retired sergeant first class from the United States Army and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, having survived Pearl Harbor and many campaigns in the Pacific. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include his special friend, Faye Kurtley, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded his death by his parents; his wife, Jane Wasson Graddy; six brothers; and five sisters.
The funeral was June 4 at Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Joey Mounts officiating. Burial followed at Evening Shade Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Frankie Dickerson, Jerry Gilbert, Mike Cushman, Travis Dickerson, Rick Thomas and Troy Meacham.
Honorary pallbearers were Jim Thomas, David Kunkel, Palmer Whitlock and M.A. Graddy.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the World War II Memorial Fund.

Fayon H. Graddy
Fayon Hoaney Graddy, 66, of Evening Shade died Dec. 18, 2000, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born Jan. 2, 1932, in Evening Shade, she was the daughter of Columbus S. "Ben" and Bunis Rogers Hoaney. She owned and operated Graddy's Grocery at Evening Shade for many years and was a member of Piney Fork Church of Christ at Evening Shade.
Survivors include her husband, M.A. Graddy; three sons ­ Kenny Graddy of Cherokee Village, Kerry Graddy of Batesville, and Michael Graddy of Cave City; three daughters ­ Donna Owens of Beaufort, N.C., Sharon Whitlock of Houston, and Julie Graddy of Evening Shade; a brother, A.L. Hoaney of Evening Shade; two sisters ­ Beulah Qualls of Evening Shade, and Jean Dilley of Springfield, Mo.; 11 grandchildren ­ Heather Graddy of Little Rock, Jamie Owens of Chapel Hill, N.C., Nathan Owens of Boone, N.C., Courtney Whitlock and Britni Whitlock, both of Houston, Jeremy Graddy of Springfield, Mo., Kristen Graddy of Cherokee Village, Trevor Graddy of Batesville, Chase Whitlock of Houston, Megan Graddy and Morgan Graddy, both of Cave City; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral was Dec. 20 at the Evening Shade School gymnasium with Ralph Wallis officiating. Burial followed at Campground Cemetery.

Jean Graham
Jean Mary Graham, 81, of Horseshoe Bend, died Dec. 31, 2001, at North Arkansas Life Care Center in Horseshoe Bend.
Born Jan. 20, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of James Riley and Mary Lane Riley. She married Earl N. Graham Sept. 29, 1945, in Chicago, Ill. She worked many years as a secretary for an insurance company in Chicago before retiring.
The Grahams moved to Horseshoe Bend in March of 1980 from Chicago, and she was a member of the Eagle’s Auxiliary 3131 of Horseshoe Bend. She was a member of St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bend where she was also a member of the St. Mary Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral Mass was Jan. 4 at St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bend with Father Venatius Preske officiating. Burial followed in Evening Shadows Memorial Park in Horseshoe Bend.
Arrangements were under the direction of Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel.
Memorials can be made to St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bend.
