Marie Bartolucci
Marie Bartolucci of Eagle River died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at Eagle River Health Care. She was 89.
She was born Nov. 7, 1911, in Butler, Pa.
Mrs. Bartolucci and her husband, Tony, owned and operated a grocery store in Pewaukee Lake from 1940 to the 1960s. She lived in Pewaukee and Waukesha before moving to Eagle River 10 years ago.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a granddaughter and a grandson.
Survivors include a son, Joseph L. (Micki) of Eagle River; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
A family prayer service was held Nov. 5 at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River.
Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery & Mausoleum in Albuquerque, N.M.

Dolly R. Erickson
Dolly R. Erickson of Hiles died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at Iron County General Hospital. She was 71.
She was born April 9, 1930, in East St. Louis, Ill. During World War II, she trained and worked in the field of metallurgy.
Mrs. Erickson enjoyed baking, nature, quilting, child care and visiting shut-ins. She was a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star (Lorraine Chapter in Minneapolis, Minn.) and the VFW Auxiliary. She was a resident of the Kentuck Lake area for 30 years.
She was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Bob; a son, Kenneth R. (Shirly) Johnson of De Pere; a daughter, Janeece (Charles) Leeuw of Fairfax, Vt.; a sister, Juanita Miller of Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 3, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Eagle River. The Rev. Margaret Johnson officiated. Burial will be in Eagle River Cemetery.

Elizabeth 'Betty' Fish Everett
Elizabeth “Betty” Fish Everett of Conover died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Crandon Nursing Home. She was 95.
She was born Oct. 4, 1906, in New York. She moved to Conover in 1979.
Mrs. Everett was an avid bowler and bridge player. She was a volunteer with the Women's Auxiliary, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, macramé, crocheting, wood carving and bird watching. Other hobbies included traveling and researching family genealogy.
Mrs. Everett was preceded in death by her husband, Max Eldred Everett, in 1980.
She is survived by one daughter, Ann of Mississippi; two sons, David (Marge) and Greg, both of Conover; a brother, Leslie A. Fish; a sister, Matilda Gillespie; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Private family services were held at Alpha Crematory. Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River is serving the family.

William G. Schliep
William G. Schliep, a former summer resident of Three Lakes, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, in Schaumberg, Ill.
He was born July 19, 1906. While in Three Lakes, he was a member of the Eagle River Masonic Lodge and was a retired member of Pipe Fitters Local 597 of Chicago, Ill.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine; a son, Bill (Marie); two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Robert George Dresel
Robert George Dresel of Eagle River died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff. He was 74.
Mr. Dresel was born April 23, 1927, in Eagle River. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a radio operator and repairman with the 98th Division/310th Infantry in Berlin.
A lifelong resident of the North Woods, he was employed for 34 years with the Vilas County Highway Department, and was a caretaker for the Nelson Lake Dam in Phelps for more than 30 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and pool player.
Mr. Dresel was preceded in death by his parents, Artless Clayton Dresel and John “Deerskin Jack” Dresel.
Survivors include three sons, Dale of Ahwautukee, Ariz., Glen of Phelps, and Ernest; a special friend, Jackie Thompson of Eagle River; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, from 10 to 11 a.m. at VFW Post 8637 in Eagle River, with a funeral service to follow. Burial will be in Phelps Cemetery.

Richard Bakken
Richard Bakken of Boulder Junction died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001. He was 56.
Mr. Bakken was born April 14, 1945, in Sturgeon Bay to Lennert and Evelyn Bakken. He married Terry (nee Goush) on July 11, 1970, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boulder Junction.
An avid outdoorsman, he was a fishing and hunting guide, trapper and carpenter.
Mr. Bakken was a member and supporter of Ducks Unlimited, Ruffed Grouse Society and Northwoods Wildlife Center.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn.
Survivors include his wife, Terry, a son, Clint, and father, Lennert, all of Boulder Junction; and a sister, Barbara (Ruben) Wohlfiel of Arbor Vitae.
Funeral services and visitation were held Monday, Dec. 3, at Bolger Funeral Home in Minocqua.
Memorials may be sent to the family.

Roy E. Baumgardt
Roy E. Baumgardt of Illinois, a summer resident of Eagle River, died at home Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001. He was 90.
He was born Sept. 1, 1911, in Rockford, Ill., the son of Edward and Eleanor Baumgardt. He grew up in Rockford, spending time in Sweden during his childhood.
Mr. Baumgardt was employed by Woodward Governor from 1939 to 1943. He married Kathryn Louise Hultgren Nov. 20, 1942.
He established A&B Machine Shop in 1943, and Rockford Carbide Die & Tool Ltd. in 1978 with his son, Tim. He retired in 1994 at the age of 83.
Mr. Baumgardt was a member of First Evangelical Free Church and served on numerous church boards. Summer vacation time was spent in Wisconsin. His hobbies included collecting automobiles, and he was a charter member of the Rolls Royce Owners Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jan. 1, 1998.
Survivors include one son, Tim (Karen) of Rockford, Ill., two grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Wernberg Ostrom of Rockford; and a nephew, Jim (Donna) Wernberg of Rockford.
Funeral services were held Nov. 21 in Rockford. The Rev. Howard Lanphear officiated. Burial was in Scandinavian Cemetery.

Robert 'Bob' Davis
Robert “Bob” Davis of Wausau died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at home. He was 73.
Mr. Davis was born March 2, 1928, to Richard and Myrtle (Hintze) Davis of Rothschild.
He began playing piano at the age of 12, teaching himself to play by ear.
He served in the U.S. Army during the early 1950s and was stationed in Germany as a medic in the Army Signal Corps. He would play piano whenever he had free time, in service clubs and wherever his unit went.
Mr. Davis chose to make music his career and joined the Arnie Kurth Trio. Later, he worked as a single artist, playing bookings throughout Wisconsin and as a featured entertainer at the Northernaire Showboat in Three Lakes.
He retired to Wausau where he continued to play at supper clubs, bars and other places. He especially liked jazz and older music which he would play at nursing homes in the area.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Neal.
Survivors include a sister, Vivian (Terry) Key of Mineral Wells, Texas; two nieces, Cynthia Wilke Snider of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jacqueline Wilke Bradley of Fairfax, Va.; two nephews, Bruce Wilke of Dallas, Texas, and Richard of Indianapolis, Ind.
Services with visitation were held Monday, Dec. 3, at Helke Funeral Home in Wausau.

Barbara Arlette Dixon
Barbara Arlette Dixon of Johnsburg, Ill., died at her home Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001.
Born May 8, 1938, in Chicago, Ill., to Robert Elvis and Shirley Arlene (Gage) Link, she married Donald Burel Dixon April 4, 1959 in McHenry, Ill. They lived in the Johnsburg-McHenry area for more than 42 years.
Before the birth of her children, Mrs. Dixon was employed as a switchboard operator at Illinois Bell Telephone and as a receptionist at McHenry Medical Group.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling in the North Woods and around St. Germain.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Scott (Cindy) of Johnsburg and Chris (Kathy) of McHenry; a daughter, Breck (Phil) Thennes of Woodstock, Ill.; nine grandchildren; four brothers, Ronald (Evelyn) Link of Humble, Texas, Raymond (Delores) Link of Spring, Texas, and Ricky and Rodney Link of Montgomery, Texas; two sisters, Beverly (Ronald) Hamblim of Castlerock, Colo., and Cheryl (Thomas) Dawson of Selmer, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Nov. 26 in McHenry. The Rev. M. Paul Nelson of First Presbyterian Church officiated. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in McHenry.

Marian Hendrickson
Marian Hendrickson of Wausau died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, in Wausau. She was 88.
Mrs. Hendrickson was born March 25, 1913, to Basil and Julie (Pischka) Pasholk.
She was a cosmotologist and owned Marian's Beauty Salon in Eagle River for more than 30 years. Since retiring in the mid-1980s, she lived in Wausau with her sister, Bridget Pasholk.
For more than 25 years, she was actively involved in the organization and directing of the Silver Blades annual figure skating show in Eagle River. She also assisted in coaching youth hockey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto A., and son, Daniel A., both of Conover; three sisters, Agnes Wandry of Antioch, Calif., Cecelia Grosskruetz of Scholfield and Dorothy; and two brothers, Paul and Peter Pasholk of Wausau.
Survivors include two sons, James A. (Iris) and Larry (Arlene) Passel, both of Wausau; one daughter, Jo M. of Iowa City, Iowa; four brothers, Thomas, Isadore, Joseph and Raymond Pasholk, all of the Wausau area; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the Marian Hendrickson Scholarship Fund, c/o Bridget Pasholk, 1215 Grand Ave., Wausau, WI 54403. An annual scholarship will be established in her name and awarded to a student graduating from Northland Pines High School in Eagle River.

Herbert Eggers Sr.
Herbert Eggers Sr., former resident of Eagle River, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, in Glendale, Ariz. He was 91.
Mr. Eggers was born Aug. 2, 1910. From 1958 to 1973, he was the owner of Gira Motel in Eagle River.
He was president of Northland Area Development Corp. and was instrumental in developing Pleasure Island Amusement Park in Eagle River. He was an avid gardener.
Survivors include his wife Geraldine of Glendale; a son, Herbert Jr. (Doris); a daughter, Ruth (John) Macek; a brother, Melvin; a sister, Ruth Milich; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and stepdaughter, Janis (Eivind) Helle; stepson, Joseph (Christine) Caz Jr.; three step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in Peoria, Ariz., Dec. 5 and in Chicago, Ill., Dec. 9. Burial was in Memory Gardens in Arlington Heights, Ill.

Beverly V. (Hotelling) Graf
Beverly V. (Hotelling) Graf, a former North Woods resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, in Flagler Beach, Fla. She was 59.
She was born Jan. 19, 1942, in Muskego, and worked at the Vilas County Sheriff's Department for numerous years as a clerk, dispatcher and jailer.
Survivors include her mother, Pearl Hotelling of Florida; her husband of 41 years, Thomas of Florida; three sons, Timothy (Ann) of Watertown, Terrance of Columbus and Theodore of Oconomowoc; and two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32119.

Helen C. Jensen
Helen C. Jensen of Conover died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at Wausau Hospice House. She was 87.
She was born Oct. 23, 1914, in Omaha, Neb., to Frank and Adele (Palmquist) Johanson.
She married Ernest A. Jensen Oct. 2, 1937, in Omaha. The couple lived in Downers Grove, Ill.; Minneapolis, Minn.; Englewood, Fla.; and Conover.
Mrs. Jensen was a homemaker and lifelong volunteer in hospitals, churches and Goodwill. She was a 55-year member of the PEO Sisterhood.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Frank Johanson.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Barbara (B.F.) Powell of Wausau; three sons, Phillip (Mickey) of Elgin, Ill., Stephen (Karen) of Owatonna, Minn., and David (Deedy) of Contoocook, N.H.; two sisters, Ruth Petersen of Atlantic, Iowa, and Betty Chamberlin of Estes Park, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Dec. 31 at First Presbyterian Church in Wausau. The Rev. Dan Powell, Mrs. Jensen's grandson, officiated.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice House of Wausau.

Ted Maillette
Ted Maillette of Eagle River died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Eagle River Health Care Center. He was 83.
Mr. Maillette was born March 4, 1918, in Washington. He was a resident of Eagle River for 11 years.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marilyn, of Eagle River; two daughters, Suzanne (Mugsy) Holmes of Botavia, Fla., and Joanne (James) Morley of Bettendorf, Iowa; three sons, Mike (Anne) and James, both of Eagle River, and John (Mary) of Wausau; one sister, Betty Maillette of Fort Bragg, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Dec. 27, 2001, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Three Lakes, with the Rev. William Horath officiating. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery, in Eagle River.

Kristine A. Mason
Kristine A. Mason of Eau Claire died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at her lake home in Land O' Lakes. She was 50.
Ms. Mason was born March 24, 1951, in Antigo to Henry and Margaret (Helgeson) Mason. She earned a bachelor of science degree in recreation at UW-La Crosse in 1973 and a master's degree in library science in 1976. She was a media specialist in Eau Claire for 26 years and was affectionately known as the “Bat Lady” due to her efforts to educate young and old alike about bats.
She was a member of the Chippewa Valley Sierra Club, Historic Preservation Foundation, Eau Claire Landmarks Commission, Otter Creek Garden Club and the Eau Claire Friends of the Library.
Her father preceded her in death.
Survivors include Jane Schley of Eau Claire; her mother, Margaret; one brother, Gene (Helen) of Appleton; one sister, Barbara; one uncle, Luther (Vivi) of Green Valley, Ariz.; and one nephew and two nieces.
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 3, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home in Eau Claire from 4 to 6 p.m., with a memorial service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute-Loon Watch, Northland College, Ashland, Wis., or the Eau Claire County Humane Association.
