Patricia Dalbec
Patricia Dalbec of Gurnee, Ill., and Eagle River died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Winchester House in Libertyville, Ill. She was 78.
Mrs. Dalbec was born Aug. 12, 1925, in Kenilworth, Ill., and was a graduate of New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; three brothers, Jim, John and Michael Montonaro; three sisters, Virginia McMillan, Ethel Nelson and Rita Trimbourne.
Survivors include a son, Steven (Maribeth) of Wadsworth, Ill., and three grandchildren.
She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
A private family funeral service was held.

Ethel Brickey Freund
Ethel Brickey Freund of St. Germain died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. She was 79.
Mrs. Freund was born June 26, 1925, in Eagle River, the daughter of Frank and Loretta Swett.
A lifelong area resident, she worked at Simpson Electric for 10 years. She also served as a trustee for Walter E. Olson Memorial Library for seven years and as St. Germain town treasurer for 14 years.
She was active with the Vilas County Commission on Aging and was a member of St. Germain Shipmates.
Mrs. Freund was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Brickey, and second husband, Don Freund; her parents; her brother, Jay; her sister, Betty Atkins; and a great-grandchild.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy (Al Ray) Cleveland of Eagle River; two sons, Jim (Sue) Brickey of Eagle River and Michael (Marge) Brickey of Winter; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
A funeral service was held July 5 at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Spurgeon officiating.
Burial was in Eagle River Cemetery.

Dolores Kiffel
Dolores Kiffel of Kenosha, formerly of Phelps, died Friday, July 2, 2004, at her home. She was 75.
Mrs. Kiffel was born June 30, 1929, in Kenosha to Attilio (Art) and Jesse (nee Aiello) Savaglio.
She graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School and married Thomas Kiffel Aug. 27, 1949, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
She spent most of her life in Kenosha, except for 10 years when she and her husband lived in Phelps.
A homemaker, her hobbies included gardening and ceramics.
She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother, Ben.
Survivors include her husband; her father; a son, Thomas (Laurie) of Menasha; a daughter, Diane (Craig) Stewart of Kenosha; a brother, Robert (Kathy) Savaglio of Kenosha; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service was held July 6 at Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home in Kenosha.
Interment was in All Saints Mausoleum.

Robert R. 'Bob' Rudey
Robert R. “Bob” Rudey of Fond du Lac died Friday July 2, 2004, the result of oral cancer. He was 52.
Mr. Rudey was born Jan. 29, 1952, in Beaver Dam to Arden and Bernice (nee Hanefeld) Rudey.
A graduate of Beaver Dam High School, he married Nancy Tabbert Jan. 13, 1978, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac.
He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a correctional officer for 27 years at Taycheedah Correctional Institution.
Known by the nickname “Big City Bob,” he served as union president of WSEU and was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lighthouse Anglers Fishing Club, Sturgeons for Tomorrow, Walleyes for Tomorrow and a charter member of Wisconsin Water Fowlers.
He had a cabin in the Eagle River area and his hobbies included hunting, fishing and flower gardening. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Roberta Dupois; one brother, Richard (Dawn) Rudey of Horicon; and two sisters, Sharon (Cary) Eilertson and Kathy (Reuben) Ruch, both of Eldorado.
A funeral was held July 6 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Haugly and the Rev. Joel Gaertner officiating.
Burial was in Rosendale Cemetery with Trier-Puddy American Legion Post 75 conducting a military graveside service.
Memorials may be made to Winnebago Lutheran Academy or Faith Evangelical Church.

Dorothy Lee Turpin
Dorothy Lee Turpin of Attica, Ind., died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. She was 83.
Mrs. Turpin was born April 26, 1921, in Danville, Ill., to William and Edith (nee Wallace) Crawford.
Living most of her life in Attica, Ind., she graduated from Attica High School and married Frank Turpin May 27, 1945.
She was employed for 40 years at Radio Material Corp. in Attica, Ind., and was an active member of the Attica Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband March 12, 1995; two brothers, Leon and Bob; and a sister, Fern Morgan,
Survivors include three sons, Rick (Kathy) of Attica, Ind., Joe (Joy) of Eagle River and Mark (Tammy) of Lafayette, Ind.; a nephew raised with the family, Mike (Betty) Morgan of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a brother, William “Dutch” (Frances) Crawford of Lafayette, Ind.; a sister, Edith (Phil) Grush of Crawfordsville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held July 1 at Attica Christian Church, with the Rev. Bob Elness officiating.
Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Attica.
Memorials may be made to Attica Christian Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Arthur 'Pep' Waldvogel Jr.
Arthur “Pep” Waldvogel Jr. of St. Germain died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at his home. He was 60.
Mr. Waldvogel was born Sept. 7, 1943, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Arthur Sr. and Lois Waldvogel.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict.
Mr. Waldvogel had been a resident of St. Germain for the last five years.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1995.
Survivors include his mother; one daughter, Charlynn Waldvogel of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Craig (Lynn) Waldvogel of Naperville, Ill.; one sister, Arlo (Paul) Aaron of Eau Claire; and two grandchildren.
He is further survived by nieces and nephews.
A private graveside funeral service was held July 2, with the Rev. Joel Huenemann officiating.
Burial was in St. Germain Cemetery.

Jack W. Adams
A memorial service for Jack W. Adams of St. Germain will be held Saturday, July 17, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sayner. The Rev. Eugene Hornung will officiate.
Mr. Adams died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Columbia-St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee. He was 74.
Interment will be in St. Germain Cemetery.

Everett 'Chick' Federer
Everett “Chick” Federer of Land O' Lakes died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Friendly Village Nursing Home in Rhinelander. He was 84.
Mr. Federer was born May 7, 1920, in Three Lakes, the son of William and Elizabeth (nee Bonack) Federer.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked at Prox Construction Co. in Milwaukee.
A resident of Land O' Lakes for 60 years, he worked for the town of Land O' Lakes and also planted and maintained the flowers at St. Albert's Catholic Church.
He was a member of the Land O' Lakes VFW, Land O' Lakes American Legion and the Holy Name Society of St. Albert's Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Mr. Federer was preceded in death by two brothers, William of Sugar Camp and Harlan of Green Bay; three sisters, Lillian Pratz of Madison, Dorothy Alderman of Westby and Hazel Rome of Three Lakes.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Charlotte (nee Brezinski); two daughters, Denny (Kirby) Barford of Yellowstone National Park, Wyo., and Suzie (Ethan) Gannett of Fort Collins, Colo.; one brother, Arnold (Ruby) of DeForest; and two grandchildren.
He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
A funeral service was held July 10 at St. Albert's Catholic Church in Land O' Lakes. The Rev. Joseph Kleinheinz officiated.
Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Land O' Lakes.

Harlan 'Chick' Federer
Harlan “Chick” Federer of Green Bay died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at a local hospital. He was 79.
Mr. Federer was born June 18, 1925, in Three Lakes, the son of William and Elizabeth (nee Bonack) Federer.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He married Alma “Babe” Ostling Oct. 30, 1943. She preceded him in death Jan. 5, 1995.
He married Bernice Drexler Jan. 17, 1998.
Mr. Federer was employed as service manager at House of Ryan for many years.
His hobbies included carpentry, remodeling, traveling, biking, hiking and reading.
Mr. Federer was preceded in death by two sons, an infant son, Terry, and Mike July 28, 1998; one brother, William “Bill” of Sugar Camp; and three sisters, Lillian Pratz of Madison, Dorothy Alderman of Westby and Hazel Rome of Three Lakes.
In addition to his second wife, survivors include one daughter, Karen (Steve) Wygralak of Green Bay; three stepdaughters, Donna (Ron) Geurts of Underhill, Cathy (Don) Carlson of Arizona and Sandra (John) Asher of Sturgeon Bay; a daughter-in-law, Judy Federer of Green Bay; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two brothers, Arnold of Madison and Everett of Land O' Lakes.
He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held July 3 at West Mason Malcore Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Vorpagel III officiating.
Entombment was in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

Walter E. Hauswald
Walter E. Hauswald of Sycamore, Ill., died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center in DeKalb, Ill. He was 95.
Mr. Hauswald was born in 1908 in Fairfield, Iowa, and raised on a farm in western Illinois.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana Central College and a master's degree from the University of Iowa.
He married his wife in 1935 and the couple honeymooned in the Eagle River area. The following year they purchased a cottage on Paradise Lake between Eagle River and St. Germain, and spent summers there for the next 60 years.
Mr. Hauswald taught physics and chemistry until his retirement in 1974 and was awarded an honorary doctorate to commemorate his teaching career in 2000.
His hobbies included involvement in chemistry and science organizations and he had a special interest in music and sang in a barbershop quartet.
He was a member of Federated Church in Sycamore, Ill., where he directed the choir for 44 years, and a member of the Sycamore Chapter of Rotary International.
During the summers he participated in Rotary activities in Eagle River and attended Community United Church of Christ in St. Germain.
Survivors include his wife, Amalia; two daughters, Carolyn and Jeananne; and three granddaughters.
A memorial service was held June 29 in the chapel at his retirement home.

Richard 'Dick' Kauzlaric
Richard “Dick” Kauzlaric, a lifelong resident of Eagle River, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff. He was 70.
Mr. Kauzlaric was born Sept. 27, 1933, in Eagle River. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He owned and operated Dick's Mobil on Railroad Street in Eagle River for many years.
Mr. Kauzlaric was preceded in death by one brother, David.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; one daughter, Maryann (Joe) Fath of St. Germain; one son, Kenneth of Park City, Ill.; two brothers, Fred (Arlene) of Eagle River and Russell (Kris) of Duluth, Minn.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service was held July 9 at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River. Deacon John McCaughn officiated.
Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery in Eagle River.

Herbie Miller
Herbie Miller of Eagle River died Monday, July 12, 2004, at Lillian E. Kerr Nursing Care and Rehabilitation Center in Phelps. She was 80.
Mrs. Miller was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Minneapolis, Minn., and graduated from South High School there.
She married Ted Miller June 19, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minn., and the couple moved to the Eagle River area in 1970. They owned and operated resorts and motels, including the Braywood Resort on Catfish Lake and, most recently, Miller Cabins in Eagle River.
Her hobbies included oil painting, and after retiring, she began carving, both by hand and with chain saws.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Halvor Jordal.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Jeff (Pattie) of Eagle River; one niece; and one nephew.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 15, at 4 p.m. at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River with the Rev. William Trosien officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Eagle River Cemetery.
A memorial will be established in her name.

John H. Miller
John H. Miller, a former resident of St. Germain, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Mr. Miller operated the Blue Crest Supper Club in Arbor Vitae, worked at Blink Bonnie Supper Club in St. Germain and Persian Paradise in Eagle River.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen (Tom) Martens of St. Germain; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held July 2 at St. Peter's Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Ind.
