Raymond "Ray" Hereau
May 16, 2007
Raymond "Ray" J. Hereau, age 88 of Iron River, former Stambaugh, passed away May 16, 2007, at Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette. He was born September 7, 1918 to Fred and Emma (Urban) Hereau in Gaastra, MI (Berkshire Location). He graduated from Iron River High School in 1938. On October 14, 1939 he married Andrea Cederna. They moved to Milwaukee for work until returning to the area in 1943, where Ray worked for several local mines for the next 27 years. When the new Iron County General Hospital was built in 1972, he was hired as Head of Maintenance and worked there until his retirement in 1982.
Ray enjoyed carpentry, fishing, hunting, and dancing. He was well known for his dancing and on many Saturday nights he could be seen on a local dance floor with Andy enjoying the music and dancing. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, the Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge #1671 of Iron River, the Eagles, and Big Brothers.
He is survived by his wife Andrea; daughters, Judy Hansen, Fenton, MI, Janis (Bill) Book, Marquette, Joanne (George) Schafer, Clio, MI, and Jeanne (Jim) Smith, LaCrosse, WI; grandchildren, Sherry (Luke) Korpi, Vicki (Klay) Dillon, Gina (Rick) Hall, Dennis (Christy) Hansen, Tammy Schafer,Braunen Smith, and Melissa Schafer; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Alice Johnson, Iron River, Emma Rowell, Green Bay, WI, Dorothy (Bob) Midbrod, Silver Bay, MN; brother, Wallace Hereau, New Berlin, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Agnes Berquist, Viola Andreski, Lucille Clements, and Eunice Helgemo.
Visitation: Monday, May 21, 2007 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian, MI.
Funeral Service: Monday, May 21, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church , Caspian, MI, with Rev. Dino Silvestrini to offer the Memorial Mass
Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River, MI
The family suggests memorials to The Lake Superior Hospice of Marquette or a charity of choice.

Stanley A. Sadino, age 87 of Iron River, MI, former Stambaugh, MI, died Sunday May 13, 2007 at his home.
Born: Sept. 28, 1919 Greenland, MI.
The son of the late Antony & Maudeline (Marco) Sadino attended the Stambaugh schools and graduated from Stambaugh High school in 1940. He then attended Cleary College, Ypsilanti, MI.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII. After his discharge from the service he returned to Iron River.
He married the former Lila L. Nasser August 4, 1948 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River, MI. The couple made their home in Stambaugh, MI. and celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in 2006.
The couple owned and operated Sadino Grocery in Stambaugh for over 30 years retiring in 1978.
Stanley enjoyed most in life his family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening
He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian, MI. and the American Legion Reino Post #21.

Died Saturday May 12, 2007 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI.
Born September 9, 1918 in Iron River, MI
The son of the late Tito and Zelinda (Ruzzicone) Contardi attended the Mineral Hills schools and was a U.S Army Veteran. He was employed by the M.A. Hanna Mining Company, working in the local mines.
He married Nathalie "Nath" Paulke on December 28, 1943 at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, and the couple made their home in the Homer Location, Iron River, MI. They celebrated their 63rd Anniversary in 2006.
He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River and a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and gardening.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law; Ronald Zorzin, five brothers; Leslie, Nano, Herman, Edward, and Germanune, and three sisters; Rose Mandolini, Santa Scott, and Clara Contardi.
He is survived by his wife, Nathalie

Bruce R. Lindstrom

Bruce Rankin Lindstrom of Iron River died Saturday, May 12, 2007 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 11, 1934 in Stambaugh, son of Lawrence and Janet (Rankin) Lindstrom. He graduated from Iron River High School in 1952. Bruce served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He later graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a minor in Accounting. He lived his life as a good and decent public servant. He began his career as a plant manager for Griffin Wheel in Chicago, Illinois, then moved on to the State of Michigan as a Legislative Fiscal Analyst. In 1972 he was appointed as Governor William G. Milliken's first Special Assistant for U.P. Affairs, where he served until 1978, and later as the Chief of Staff to Representative Dominic J. Jacobetti until he retired from State Government in 1993. Bruce worked in Albuquerque, New Mexico until retiring permanently in 2000. He returned to reside in Iron River, where he was active in local organizations and served on the Downtown Development Authority. Bruce was a member of VFW Post 3134, Post Adjutant for the American Legion Post 17 in Iron River, the Elks, Golden K, Masons, and Shriners. He was honored by Iron County Golden K for his outstanding work during the Michigan Week Banquet in 2006.
Bruce was an avid MSU fan, and enjoyed golfing, sports, visiting at deer camp, and cooking. He was a loving father and grandfather, brother, devoted friend and always a willing volunteer.
He is survived by his mother Janet, his special friend and soul mate Janet Tarsi, his three children Sonja (Simon Knights) Lindstrom of Montecito, California, Kirsten (James Glanzer) Erickson of Iron Mountain, Charles Bruce Lindstrom of Negaunee, and their mother Franzi Henry, one sister, Sandra Tegge of Iron River, a brother, Tom Lindstrom of Thailand, three grandchildren, Haley Erickson, Annika Erickson, and Chloe Madison Lindstrom Knights, a sister-in-law, Dolores Lindstrom, cousin Lee Lindstrom of Florida, lifelong friend Dick Tegge of Iron River, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence and his two brothers, Lawrence Jr. and Jay.
Visitation: Wednesday, May 16, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, MI. A Masonic Lodge Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. followed by an Elks Lodge of Sorrow Service.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Iron River, MI, with Pastor Dawn Treado-Green to officiate.
Pallbearers are Jeff Phillips, Joe Rankin, Wally Rankin, Rich Tegge, Jeff Lindstrom, and John Lindstrom. Honorary Pallbearers are Dick Tegge, Lee Lindstrom, Chuck Greenlund, Jim Spicer, Dan Rousseau, Larry Burch, Steve Shepich, Gary Lange, Dr. Donald Jacobs, and Captain Stephen J. Tegge, who is proudly serving the United States Army in Iraq.

died Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at the Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River, MI, after a brief illness.
Born February 11, 1930 in Whallonsburg, NY
The son of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Belmore) Brewster of Lake Placid, NY, attended the Saranac Lake schools, graduating from Saranac High School. After graduation, he joined the US Navy until honorably discharged. He then attended Syracuse University , College of Forestry, receiving his Bachelor's Degree. He retired from work as Superintendent of Superior National Forest.
Richard was an avid reader, who loved to share a good book. He enjoyed music (not T.V.), playing cards, and bowling with friends. He was an active Kiwanis Member.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Francis, Bernard, Paul, Phillip, and Eugene, and a sister, Marie.
He is survived by three sisters, Catherine O'Neil, Doris Bonfante, and Barbara Bonfante, who will miss him dearly. He is also survived by twenty-nine nieces and nephews.
The family of Richard Brewster is extremely grateful for the tender care provided by the Staff and Volunteers of the "No One Shall Die Alone" Program at the Iron County Community Hospital, the Kiwanis, and the American Cancer Society and suggest memorials to these organizations.

died Thursday, April 19, 2007 at the Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River, MI
Born March 21, 1928 in Caspian, MI
He was the son of the late Eino Maki of Iron River and Arthur and Sylvia (Wirtanen) Heikkila of Caspian. He attended the Caspian and Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1947.
He married Evelyn Thrasher on May 22, 1948 in Crystal Falls, MI and the couple were life long residents of the Iron River area.
He was employed by the M.A. Hanna Mining Company at the Homer-Wauseeka Mine until it closed. He attended Diesel Mechanic School in Houghton, MI, graduating with honors in 1969 and then taught at the Ford Forestry Center (Through Michigan Tech) for 17 years. He then operated "Bud's Used Parts" on the Caspian Cut-off.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Eagles #1603, and the Michigan Teacher's Association. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed his camp and his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, an infant son Gary, brothers Richard Maki and Wallace Heikkila, and sister Viola Nowicki.

Ardella Ann Holmes

Ardella Ann Holmes Age: 88 Iron River, MI
died Friday, April 13, 2007 at Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River, MI.
Ardella was born July 17, 1918 in Oconto Falls, WI, the daughter of the late Alfred and Catherine (Vollmer) Holmes. She attended St. Anthony's School and the Oconto Falls High School. After graduation, she was employed by the Oconto Falls Hospital, St. Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay and Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon. She then moved to San Francisco where she worked for Real Silk Hosiery and Redlicks Furniture Store. In May of 1955, she moved to Iron River and worked as a Realtor Associate for Howard H. Billings for 30 years.
She was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church, St. Agnes Altar Society, and The Daughters of Isabella, serving as its chancellor for many years. She spearheaded and fostered the Iron County United Way for 20 years, was an active volunteer in the St. Agnes CCD Program, the Iron County Museum, the Friendship Club at the Iron River Care Center, and the Council at the Iron River Care Center. Ardella was a recognized volunteer who gave countless hours to serving her community.
Ardella was preceded in death by three brothers: William, Ancil, and Evert Reed and three sisters: Eleanor (Ed) LaBine, Melba (Steve) Frazey, and Helen.
She is survived by her nieces: Stephany (Gil) Burk, Barbara (Jake) Tellier, and Jan Reed Hay, and her nephews: Tom (Debra) LaBine and Don Reed, and her sister-in-law, Ruth Holmes, along with many grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Monday, April 16, 2007 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, MI, with the Parish Rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m.
Funeral Service: Monday, April 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River, MI with the Rev. Aloysius Hasenberg to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Born: July 18, 1915, Caspian, MI
The daughter of the later Paul & Frances (Rucinski) Masuga. She attended the Caspian & Stambaugh schools, graduating from the Stambaugh High School in 1934. She married Harold Catt on September 8, 1938 in Crown Point, IN; he preceded her in death. She was employed as a stenographer for the Department of Social Services, retiring in 1977. She was a member of the St. Cecilia Church, St. Anne's Society, Women's Aglow, Third Degree Order Carmelite, Rosary Sodality and assisted Fr. Clisch with Bible Study. In 1999 she moved from Caspian, MI to Marshfield WI to reside near her son.
She was also preceded in death by 6 brothers, Anton, Kenneth, Melvin, George John & Paul Masuga and one grandson, Kenneth.

Born: June 8, 1924 in Iron River, MI
The son of the late Anton & Amie (Nash) Olsen attended the Iron River schools & graduated from Iron River High school. He then attended Michigan State University & graduated with a Degree in Business.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WW II in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater.
He moved to Milwaukee, WI in 1950 and worked with his brother-in-law Eddie Gugliotto & sister-in-law, Eleanore (Lawrence) Wollersheim at the Mid City Bar. In 1962 he moved to Rhinelander WI. & owned & operated Bob's Bar moving back to Iron River in the early 1970's. Bob was "Tiler" at the Iron River Elks Lodge #1671 for 15 years prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Iron River, the Golden K Club of Iron County, the American Legion Alfred Branchini Post #17, & the Iron River Elks Lodge #1671 where he was Elk of the Year in 1996-1997.
Bob was also preceded in death by a daughter Marcia, 4 brothers; Lester"Bud", Tommy, Howard & Richard Olsen, 5 sisters; Glenna Slevoski, Gladys Delinski, Beulah Domina, Lillian & Emily Olsen.

The daughter of George & Adeline (Bicigo) Westcott was a life long resident. She attended the Iron River schools & graduated from Iron River High school in 1961. Gerry was a certified nurse aide working in home health for many years. She later was employed by the Americinn Motel in Iron River, MI. & retired as head housekeeper.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Iron River, MI.
Gerry was preceded in death by her father George Westcott, daughter: Bobbi Ann Puckett Remer, brother Earl & twin brother Dean.

The daughter of the late Solindo and Maria (Davoli) Tersi attended the Palatka schools in Gaastra, MI.
Florence married Michael Eberle Jr. on June 11, 1944, and he preceded her in death on October 7, 1947. She married Toivo Nikkinen on July 16, 1949 and the couple made their home in Beechwood, celebrating their 34th Wedding Anniversary in 1983. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1984.
She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Mothers Club of Beechwood.
She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Rose Clark, Louise Atanasoff, Caroline Harkins, Verna Evanoff, and Mary Trattles, and one brother, Nino Tersi.
She is survived by her daughter, Carole (Tom) Wills, Waukegan, IL
