Lavada Adams
Lavada Adams, 76, of Chattanooga died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, in a local health care facility.
Survivors include sister, Henrietta Harris Young, Chattanooga; 22 nieces and nephews; 50 great-nieces and nephews; 41 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services: Friday noon, Avondale Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
Visitation today 7-8 p.m. at the chapel.
Arrangements by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Delois Brown
Delois P. Brown died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at a health care facility.
Survivors: niece, Annette Humphrey; nephew, Albert D. Humphrey; sister, Beatrice Pryor; and other relatives.
The body may be viewed after noon today at Central Avenue Chapel. Burial will be private.
Arrangements by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

George Carter Jr.
George Wesley Carter Jr. passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, after a long illness.
Mr. Carter attended Baylor School and ranked third in his class scholastically at graduation. He went on to attend Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, graduating with a degree in biology.
Upon graduating from UT he entered the U.S. Army, serving the majority of his military time as a mechanized infantry platoon leader in Alaska, achieving the rank of first lieutenant. His professional career was spent as a special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation where he received recognition for a number of his accomplishments. After his retirement, Mr. Carter served as co-coordinator for the Habitat for Humanity group sponsored by Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church on Signal Mountain as well as serving on the church's Vestry.
Mr. Carter is survived by his two sons, Brandon Wesley Carter and Daren Webb Carter.
Services for Mr. Carter will be Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, 1 p.m., Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church, 630 Mississippi Ave., Signal Mountain, TN. Burial will take place at the National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave., Chattanooga, TN. Visitation will be Friday from 12-1 p.m. at the church. Please send flowers and contributions to the church.
Arrangements by Lane-Coulter Chapel.

Gayle Case
Gayle Kimble Case, 61, of Hixson died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at her home.
She was a member of Stuart Heights Baptist Church and was a retired nurse with BlueCross BlueShield. Her parents, George M. and Elaine Kimble, and her brother, Michael Kimble, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Kimberly Bruce, Angela Kaye Reece and Pat Saynes, all of Hixson; sister, Barbara Shivelle, Palm Coast, Fla.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews
Funeral services are 3 p.m. today, Lane-Coulter Chapel, with Rev. Darrell Davenport officiating. Interment will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Building Fund, Stuart Heights Baptist Church, 3208 Hixson Pike, Chattanooga, TN 37415.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. today. Arrangements by Lane-Coulter Chapel.

Louise Cross
Louise Y. Cross, 73, of Chattanooga died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at her residence.
She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.
Funeral: today at 11 a.m. at New Zion Baptist Church with pastor Robert Allen officiating. Burial: National Cemetery.
Arrangements by Taylor Funeral Home.

Melvin Green Jr.
Melvin Green Jr., 38, of Chattanooga died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, in a local hospital.
Funeral: today at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. George Saddler officiating. Burial: Forest Hills Cemetery.

Henrietta Guinn
Henrietta M. Guinn, 67, a resident of Chattanooga, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, and the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. Lamar Moore and Rev. Russ Ragon officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, West.

Bell Johnson
Bell Johnson, 99, died in a local healthcare facility Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Johnson.
Survivor: nephew, Charlie Barker, Chattanooga.
Services will be held at the graveside in Highland Memorial Garden, Friday morning at 11:30, Rev. Robert Strong officiating.
Visitation after 10 this morning in the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland.

Nehemiah Jones
Nehemiah Joseph Jones, 68, of Chattanooga died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at his residence.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and retired from Mueller Co. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #14.
Funeral: today at noon at New Hope Baptist Church with pastor Wayne L. Johnson officiating. Burial: National Cemetery.
Arrangements by Taylor Funeral Home.

Wayne Miller
Wayne L. Miller, 52, of Hixson died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at home.
He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Georgia Hazel Jenkins Miller.
Survivors are a brother, Joseph F. Miller of Hixson.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Gladys Parker
Gladys Trotter Parker, 88, of Chattanooga died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at the Manor House Assisted Living Center.
She was a member of Calvary Bible Church and was retired from the Electric Power Board. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Bradford and Carroll A. (C.A.) Parker.
She is survived by stepson, David Parker, and stepdaughter, Dot Shufford; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. David Carpenter officiating. The interment will follow the service in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, Feb. 8, 2001, North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Grady Sharp
Grady B. Sharp, longtime resident of Collegedale, Tenn., born August, 22, 1912, died in Fort Worth, Texas, on Feb. 5, 2001. Since the death of his wife, Margaret, he had been residing with his eldest daughter, Betty Lynne Holley.
Grady and Margaret founded and operated Greg's Cookies in Birmingham, Ala. The business was sold to another party in the mid-1970s.
Mr. Sharp is survived by his four children, Betty Lynne Holley, Fort Worth, Kim Marie Sharp, Atlanta, Kevan Elise Adams, Chattanooga, and Joel Richard Sharp, Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Chambliss, Birmingham; and his brother, Sam Sharp, St. Joseph, Mo.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel. Mr. Sharp will be buried beside his wife, Margaret, in the Collegedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Lebron Sledge
Lebron "Leaky" Sledge, 51, of Chattanooga died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001. He was a graduate of Howard High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Vietnam Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Lillie Sledge, and wife, Dorothy Sledge.
Survivors include son, Alexander Lebron Sledge; daughters, Toya, Letashia and Letishia Sledge, all of Chattanooga; brothers, Calvin L. Sledge of Chattanooga, Carl Sledge of Las Vegas, N.V., and Eric Sledge of Hot Springs, Ark.; sister, Henrietta McDaniel of Las Vegas; sister-in-law, JoAnn Sledge of Chattanooga; uncle, Earl Smith Sr. of Las Vegas; aunt, Dorothy Smith of Chicago, Ill.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Graveside service on Friday at 1 p.m. in National Cemetery with Rev. Ronald Tucker officiating. Visitation: today from 6-7 p.m. at the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home.

Robert Twomey Sr.
Robert George Twomey Sr., 96, of Chattanooga died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, in a local nursing home. He attended the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He founded the Service Electric Co. He was an avid golfer and a lifetime member of the I.B.E.W. and was also a private pilot.
He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Miriam Bigler Twomey; son and daughter-in-law, Bob Jr. and Peggy Twomey of Ooltewah; daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Maurice Thedford of Chattanooga; daughter, Willadean Bishop of Boca Raton, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. today, Feb. 8, 2001, East Chapel, with Rev. Clifford Herd officiating. The interment will follow the service in Hamilton Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Arrangements by East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Scott Wheeler
Scott Wheeler, 37, of Chattanooga and formerly of Lafayette, Ga., passed away suddenly on Monday, Feb. 5, 2001.
Arrangements will be announced by Willis Funeral Home Inc.

Kathleen Wilks
Kathleen Little Wilks, 76, East Ridge, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001.
Survivors: sisters, Doris Keel and Maxine Claridy, Pisgah, Ala.; nieces, Gail Loy, Ringgold, Irma Griffey, Harrison, Geraldine Ellis and Claudine Kirby, Higdon, Ala.; nephew, Kenneth Keel, Hixson.
Mrs. Wilks was preceded in death by husband, James Anderson Wilks. She was a member of Fairview Primitive Baptist Church and of the 1944 graduating class of Pisgah High School. She retired from Standard-Coosa-Thatcher with 44 years of service.
Services: today 1 p.m. CST from Corner Stone Chapel, Ider, Ala., with elders Greg Phillips and Doyle Kilgore officiating. Burial in Fuller Cemetery.
