Hilda Bush
Hilda Bush died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 83.
Mrs. Bush was born Oct. 28, 1916, in Comer, Ala. She was a member of the Shepherds Arms Mission and the Widows. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie E. Bush Sr., and two sons, Larry and Johnny M. Bush.
Survivors include two sons, Willie Bush, Chattanooga, and Jackie Bush, Los Angeles; two daughters, Jeanette Allen, Los Angeles, and evangelist Edna T. Mathis, Chattanooga; and three sisters, Gladys Steele, Birmingham, Ala., Willie Lee Stephen, Naples, Fla., and Josetta Sheard, Fort Myers, Fla.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Jones, the Rev. Jim Sanders, Bishop Sims Bledsol and the Rev. A.J. Bullard Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
Visitation will be today after 11 a.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Aakeem Cagkler
Aakeem Dewayne Cagkler died Monday, April 10, 2000, at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He was 10.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with elder Walter Hamerick officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The body will be at the funeral home today after 9:30 a.m.

Emmett Carroll
Emmett G. Carroll of Harrison died Friday, April 14, 2000, at his home. He was 75.
Mr. Carroll was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and a member of Mountain City Lodge 549 F&AM and the Alhambra Shrine. He was retired from Frito-Lay Co. with 50 years of service. Mr. Carroll was preceded in death by a son, George W. Carroll.
Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Boydston Carroll, Harrison; two daughters, Sue Carroll Clapp, Frisco, Texas, and Gwendolyn R. Hawkins, Chattanooga; brother, Lynn Carroll, Marietta, Ga.; sister, Grace Carroll Long, Marietta; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Childress officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alhambra Shriners Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Bill Davis
Bill Lon Davis died Saturday, April 14, 2000, in a local hospital. He was 72.
Mr. Davis was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad as an engineer with 38 years of service. Mr. Davis was a member of the United Transit Union and a Protestant. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Cox.
Survivors include his wife, Merriam Davis; a son, Lonnie Davis, Chattanooga; two daughters, Dawn Buck, Jackson, Miss., and Rebecca Davis, Chattanooga; three sisters, Evelyn Lancaster, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., Wilma McWhorter, Chattanooga, and Martitia Beaver, Hixson, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 1:30 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with minister Eddie Reachard officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 5805 Lee Highway, Chattanooga, TN 37421.

Billy Everett
Billy Alford Everett died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at the home of his daughter. He was 72.
Mr. Everett was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and retired from General Motors.
Survivors include his wife, Berneice Wade Everett; two sons, David A. Everett, Hixson, and John W. Everett, DeWitt, Mich.; two daughters, Brenda Everett Underwood, Hixson, and Deborah Everett Barker, Memphis; brother, Doyle Everett, Chattanooga; two sisters, Lucille Rhinehart and Allie Worley, both of Chattanooga; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Brent Graves
Brent W. Graves died Friday, April 14, 2000. He was 28.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. CST at Sequatchie Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.

Alice Hargis
Alice "Tootsie" F. Hargis, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in Charlotte, N.C. She was 79.
Arrangements will be announced by Williamson & Sons Funeral Home.

Lillie Harmon
Lillie Ann Daniel Harmon of Soddy-Daisy died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at her home. She was 87.
Mrs Harmon was retired from the Hamilton County School System. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Oscar Harmon and a son, O.B. Harmon.
Survivors include a daughter, Tina Gladden, Kannapolis, N.C.; two sons, Paul Harmon, Soddy-Daisy, and Jim Harmon, Pensacola, Fla.; sister, Inez Moore, Lookout Mountain; two brothers, Glenn Daniel, Lookout Mountain, and Charlie Daniel, Soddy-Daisy; 13 grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Tennessee, 9420 Ooltewah Industrial Drive, Ooltewah TN 37363.

Meridith Helton
Meridith Anne Helton died Friday, April 14, 2000, in a local hospital of injuries from an automobile accident in Scottsboro, Ala. She was 25.
Miss Helton was a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, and a former resident of Chattanooga. She had lived in New York for three years. She was a member of the Community Church of New York-Unitarian Universalist. She was a graduate of Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences and Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y. She was employed as a labor union organizer for Union of Needletrades Industrial and Textile Employees and had been a VISTA volunteer in Austin, Texas. Miss Helton was a coordinator for the Lodi, N.J., Mural Project, which honors workers killed in factory explosions. She also was a tenant organizer in New York City. Miss Helton had worked as an intern and writer for Southern Exposure magazine.
Survivors include her parents, George and Linda Helton, Hixson; sister, Laura Elizabeth Helton, Queens, N.Y.; and two grandmothers, Lila Wright, Fort Worth, Texas, and Louise Miller, Chattanooga.
The funeral will be today at 6:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3224 Navajo Drive, with the Rev. Melanie Morel Sullivan officiating.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to a general benefit fund for union families at the Meridith Helton Memorial Fund, c/o UNITE, 1710 Broadway, New York, NY 10019.

Pansy Hill
Pansy P. Hill of Hixson died Saturday, April 15, 2000, in a local hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

J.D. Hunter
J.D. Hunter died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in a local hospital. He was 79.
Arrangements will be announced by Crombie-Pinkard Funeral Service.

Martha Jones
Martha Eloise Barker Jones died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at her home. She was 89.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at the West Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Nicholas and the Rev. Briggs King officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Joy or a favorite charity.
Visitation will be today from noon until the service at the funeral home.

Evelyn Long
Evelyn Spears Long died Friday, April 14, 2000, of injuries from an automobile accident. She was 82.
The funeral will be today at 11:30 a.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Jacob Lynch
Jacob Daniel Lynch, infant son of John David and Susan Renee Lynch of Soddy-Daisy, died Friday, April 14, 2000.
A private graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. in Presbyterian Cemetery with the Rev. Frank Jump officiating.
There will be visitation at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home, Soddy-Daisy.

Lena Massingill
Lena M. Massingill of Harrison died Sunday, April 16, 2000, in a local health care facility. She was 75.
Mrs. Massingill was a lifelong resident of the Harrison area.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Richey and Grady Massingill, both of Harrison; two sisters, Cecil Linam, Collegedale, and Julie Hogan, Chattanooga; two granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Burial will be in New McDonald Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from noon to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bill Saffels
Bill Saffels died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at his home. He was 78.
Arrangements will be announced by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Charles Sanders
Charles Mitchell Sanders of Red Bank died Saturday, April 15, 2000, in an area health care facility. He was 77.
Mr. Sanders was a former resident of Tracy City, Tenn., and retired from Combustion Engineering. He was also a World War II veteran. Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Sue Nunley Sanders, and a grandson, Gregory Ray Stenfill.
Survivors include two daughters, Saundra Vandergriff, Medina, Ohio, and Deborah Hicks, Marietta, Ga.; sister, Polly Fredrick, Tracy City; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. CDT at Foster & Son Funeral Home in Tracy City with the Rev. Frank Blair officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. CDT at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Charles Schroth
Charles Lewis Schroth died Sunday, April 16, 2000, in a local hospital. He was 81.
Mr. Schroth was a member of Bayside Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 78th Lightning Division Combat Unit in Europe. He was retired from Kelly Cadillac after 25 years of service. Mr. Schroth was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Helen Schroth.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia S. Powell, Ooltewah; sister, Emma Taylor, Chattanooga; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Stitts officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wynette Setliffe
Wynette A. Setliffe died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at her home. She was 90.
Mrs. Setliffe, a native of Everett Springs, Ga., had lived in Chattanooga for many years. She was a retired office manager for Lovemans department store. Mrs. Setliffe supported the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera and was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jefferson Davis Setliffe.
Survivors include two daughters, Nora Kile, Hixson, and Linda Young, Venise, Fla.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Chattanooga Memorial Park with the Rev. George Glazier officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or the Book of Remembrance at Grace Episcopal Church.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bishop Barth Room of Grace Episcopal Church and Tuesday from noon until 1:30 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Lois Smith
Lois B. Smith died Friday, April 14, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 71.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Rock Island Baptist Church, Lookout Chapter 144 OES and a former member of the Jerico Gospel Singers.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Thomasine Stansell
Thomasine Martin Stansell of Chattanooga died Saturday, April 8, 2000, in Cobb County, Ga. She was 54.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Mason officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chattanooga Association for the Education of Young Children, P.O. Box 11003, Chattanooga, TN 37401.

Virginia Woodward
Virginia C. Woodward of Soddy-Daisy died Sunday, April 16, 2000, in an area hospital. She was 73.
Mrs. Woodward was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School Class of 1944 and a member of Mayflower Chapter OES.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Gene L. Woodward Sr.; daughter, Marciaj Taylor, Carrollton, Ga.; two sons, Gene L. Woodward Jr., and Wendell A. Woodward, both of Soddy-Daisy; brother, Bud Trimm, Pontiac, Mich.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Union Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Forgey and the Rev. Freddie Doss officiating. Burial will be in Union Fork Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be today and Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m.
Arrangements are by Williamson & Sons Funeral Home.

Mary Zerwer
Mary Joyce Zerwer died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 76.
