Marcus Arnold Sr.
Marcus Todd Arnold Sr. died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, in a hospital in Atlanta. He was 34.
He was a 1984 graduate of Chattanooga High School and attended Florida State University.
He was employed by National Labor Group and was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Arnold; grandparents, Charles and Jimmy Lou Arnold, and a great-grandfather, the Rev. Claude Copeland.
Survivors include his wife, Sheria Garvin Arnold; two sons, Marcus Todd Arnold Jr., and Martrell DeWayne Arnold; mother, Theresa P. Shumaker; grandmothers, Mary Nell Justice and Mildred Kelley; great-grandmother, Inez Copeland, all of Chattanooga; brother, Ronald Crumsey, Atlanta; sisters, Naomi Harrington and Denise Jackson, Chattanooga; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with the Rev. Harris Toney officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The body will be at the funeral home after noon today until the time of service.

James Brooks
James G. Brooks, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, in a hospital in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He was 69.
The funeral will be today at 10 a.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Marshall Roberson and the Rev. Bob Henson officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon Memorial Bible Chairman, P.O. Box 15011 North Camp, Chattanooga, TN 37415.

Hilda Bush
Hilda Bush died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, in a local hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Aakeem Cagkler
Aakeem Dewayne Cagkler died Monday, April 10, 2000, at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He was 10.
Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.

Dr. Albert Cocke
Albert Kirven Cocke of Lookout Mountain died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in a Nashville hospital. He was 80.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal on Lookout Mountain.
Burial will be in the family cemetery at Hollins University at a later date.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.
Arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home.

Fannie Contor
Fannie L. Hale Contor of Harrison died Friday, April 14, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 76.
Mrs. Contor was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and a Baptist. She was employed with DuPont from 1951 to 1964, and then opened her own business in East Chattanooga called Fannie's Bargain Mart.
She was the widow of the late Clyde A. Hale and the mother of the late Honey Bee McKee.
Survivors include her husband, Maurice D. Contor, Harrison; four sons, Jimmy Lee Reels and Wayne Eugene Reels, both of Harrison, Charles Reels, Birchwood, and Robert Allen Hale, Chattanooga; two daughters, Mary Alyce Adams, Birchwood, and Brenda Kay Mayfield, Soddy-Daisy; two brothers, Hutie H. Harden, Charleston, Tenn., and Johnny Harden, Ooltewah; sister, Maureen York, Chattanooga; 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Highway 58 chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Painter and the Rev. Robert Hale officiating.
Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery in Decatur, Tenn.
Visitation will be today from 3 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon until the time of service at the funeral home.

Mary Fairchild
Mary V. Fairchild died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at her home. She was 68.
She had lived in Chattanooga for seven years. She retired from BellSouth after 32 years of service and was a member of BellSouth Pioneers and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Cunningham, Chattanooga; sister, Tad Romine, Nashville; and a grandson.
The body was donated to medical science.
Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Sue Gardner
Sue Gardner died Monday, April 10, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 64.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at Stephen Temple Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ernest Jefferson officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.

Vivian Gilbert
Vivian Beatrice Murray Gilbert died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 88.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Gilbert, and a son, Harold Dean Gilbert.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Lynne Nelson, Signal Mountain, Vickey Booth, Rossville, Ga., and Mitchell Gilbert, Chattanooga; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be Saturday at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South, with Judge Sam Payne officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 519 E. Fourth St., Chattanooga, TN 37403.
Visitation will be today from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alice Hargis
Alice "Tootsie" F. Hargis, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in Charlotte, N.C. She was 79.
Arrangements will be announced by Williamson & Sons Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Evelyn Holloway
Evelyn Holloway died Friday, April 14, 2000. She was 83.
She was a native of Dunlap, Tenn., a member of Temple Baptist Church and its Fellowship Sunday School Class, and had worked at Clifton Hills Baptist Church day care for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Holloway Sr.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin Holloway Jr., Rossville, and Jack L. Holloway, Ooltewah; daughter, Glenda Barrett, East Ridge; five grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Trivette officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and after 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

J.D. Hunter
J.D. Hunter died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in a local hospital. He was 79.
Arrangements will be announced by Crombie-Pinkard Funeral Service.

Helen Jones
Helen Crombie Jones died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in a local health care facility. She was 79.
Arrangements will be announced by Crombie-Pinkard Funeral Service.

Irrie Kinard
Irrie Mae Kinard of Soddy-Daisy died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 67.
A memorial service will be today at 3 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Clark officiating.

Jacob Lynch
Jacob Daniel Lynch, infant son of John David and Susan Renee' Lynch of Soddy-Daisy, died Friday, April 14, 2000.
Other survivors include grandparents, Brenda and Clinton Davis, Signal Mountain; D. Robert and Gail Lynch, Chattanooga, and Betty Robinson, Pensacola, Fla.
Private graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Presbyterian Cemetery with the Rev. Frank Jump officiating.
There will be visitation at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home, Soddy-Daisy.

William Schmits III
William H. "Rusty" Schmits III of Hixson died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in a local hospital. He was 46.
He had lived most of his life in the Chattanooga area and was employed by Fluor Daniel at DuPont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Schmits II and Ernestine Thompson Schmits.
Survivors include his wife, Collene M. Schmits; two sons, Stuart Messinger, Portage, Ind., and Eric Schmits, Parkland, Fla.; daughter, Jennifer Schmits, Kissimmee, Fla.; stepson, Anthony Martin, Soddy-Daisy; brother, Monte Matheney, Hixson; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Keener officiating.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today from noon until 8 p.m. and from noon until the time of service Sunday at the funeral home.

Wynette Setliffe
Wynette A. Setliffe died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at her home. She was 90.

Manker Smedley
Manker B. Smedley of Apison, Tenn., died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at his home. He was 79.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road with the Rev. Richard Blaylock officiating.
Burial will be in Plowman Cemetery.

Thomasine Stansell
Thomasine Martin Stansell of Chattanooga died Saturday, April 8, 2000, in Cobb County, Ga. She was 54.
The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Mason officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Odessa Stevenson
Odessa Stevenson died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, in a local hospital.

Burial will be Sunday in Shadowlawn Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Hubert Thomas
Hubert F. Thomas, a longtime resident of Red Bank, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in a local hospital. He was 84.
Mr. Thomas, well-known in the home appliance field, had been a spokesman for Totten Appliances for many years. He was a member of Red Bank Presbyterian Church and an Army veteran, having served in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Downey Thomas.
Survivors include two sons, Alan D. Thomas, Red Bank, and David F. Thomas, Hixson; two sisters, Peggy Moschella, Norwalk, Conn., and Florence Allison, Bristol, Tenn.; brother, Howard Thomas, Bristol; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Everett Gossett officiating.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens Chapel of Devotion.
Memorial contributions may be made to Red Bank Presbyterian Church, 4320 Dayton Blvd., Chattanooga, TN 37415.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jessie Toomey
Jessie Toomey died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 74.
She was a member of Pilgrim West Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, James M. Toomey; daughter, Clara L. Toomey, Chattanooga; four brothers, G.W., R.B., Frank and George R. Pickett, all of Whitwell; five sisters, Hazel Solomon and Helen Ford, both of Chattanooga, Anita Martin, New York, Shirley Mitchell, Richard City, Tenn., and Mildred Pickett, Tullahoma, Tenn.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with pastor Melvin Thompson officiating.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

Eddie Tuggle
Eddie Mae Tuggle died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in a local nursing home. She was 84.
The funeral will be today at noon at New Monumental Baptist Church with the Rev. Virgil Caldwell officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are by the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Jessie Yager
Jessie Marion Yager of Ooltewah died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in a local health care facility. She was 91.
She lived in Alexandria, Va., prior to moving to Hamilton County in 1997. and was the oldest living member of Second Presbyterian Church there.
She was a retired practical nurse and was widowed by both Louis A. Mays and George L. Yager.
Survivors include her daughters, Virginia R. Creel, Ooltewah, and Betty M. Dowell, Falls Church, Va.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Sunday at 11 a.m. at Collegedale Cemetery with pastor Jose Neives officiating.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Mary Zerwer
Mary Joyce Zerwer died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 76.
Arrangements will be announced by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
