Alton Adams
Alton Whitfield "Al" Adams of Hixson died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at his home. He was 52.
He was a native of Rocky Mount, N.C., and a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Ann Parkerson Adams; daughter, Kimberly Adams Rains, Chattanooga; his parents, Arnold Lot and Evelyn Whitfield Adams; two brothers, Arnold Kent Adams, Morehead City, N.C., and Fred Adams, Rocky Mount.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association for A.L.S. Research, 2115 Chapman Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
There will be no visitation at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Annie Bacon
Annie Elizabeth Bacon died Thursday, May 25, 2000. She was 79.
Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Bryan Barnes
Bryan Eugene Barnes' remains were found March 18, 2000, after he had been missing for 11 years. He was 23 at the time of his disappearance.
A memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with Dr. James Macomber officiating.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Catherine Brown
Catherine Brown died Sunday, May 21, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 76.
The funeral will be today at 1:30 p.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home with elder Rufus Bryant officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Cletus Cauthen
Cletus W. Cauthen of Hixson died Friday, May 26, 2000, at his home. He was 78.
Mr. Cauthen was a member of Middle Valley Church of God, where he served on the church council. He retired from Pipefitters & Steamfitters Local 43 and was an Air Force veteran of World War II.
He was the husband of the late Charlotte Cauthen.
Survivors include his wife, Athelene Cauthen; two daughters, Charlene Douglas, Augusta, Ga., and Correne Chauncey, Soddy-Daisy; son, Clyde Cauthen, Bakewell, Tenn.; two sisters, Margie Rogers and Louise Powell, both of Lancaster, S.C.; brother, Bill Cauthen, Great Falls, S.C.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Hedgepath and the Rev. Mitch McClure officiating.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today after 3 p.m. and Sunday after 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Bennett Davis
Bennett H. "Hut" Davis died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at his home. He was 68.
Mr. Davis was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a former captain of special operations after 18 years with the Dekalb County (Ga.) Police Department.
He retired from Standard Coffee Co. as a route salesman and received a 10,000 delivery safety award from Godfather's Pizza.
Survivors include his wife, Winnie Tilley Davis; five daughters, Ginger LaRock, Richmond, Texas, Terri Brennan, Pendergrass, Ga., Shirley Crawford, Flowery Branch, Ga., Bonnie Hunter, Snellville, Ga., and Karen Black, Acworth, Ga.; two sisters, Dorothy McElroy, Tucker, Ga., and Laura McKee, Dunwoody, Ga.; two brothers, John B. Davis, Decatur, Ga., and James A. Davis, Atlanta; three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Ethel Foltz
Ethel Odell Foltz of East Ridge, a native of McMinnville, Tenn., died Thursday, May 25, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 88.
A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Rick Shepherd officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Jesse Harris
Jesse Willard Harris died Friday, May 26, 2000, at his home. He was 67.
Mr. Harris was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Harris; two sons, Jackie and Patrick Harris, both of Chattanooga; daughter, Belinda Vandergriff, Soddy-Daisy; five sisters, Lucy Evans, Monteagle, Tenn., Bessie Gravett, Emily Hart and Charlcie Roddy, all of Soddy-Daisy, and Jeanette Scates, Hixson; brother, Andy Harris, Soddy-Daisy; three stepchildren; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by Williamson & Sons Funeral Home.

Dorothy Hart
Dorothy Sue Hart, a longtime resident of Sale Creek, died Friday, May 26, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 69.
She was a housewife and a member of Daisy Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. O.L. Hart; two daughters, Angela C. Stanton, Mayfield, Ky., and Susan L. Rievley, Sale Creek; son, Gregory S. Hart, Thomson, Ga.; four sisters, Betty Jane Holland, Shirley Harris and Bonnie Lee, all of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Joyce Reed, Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Daisy Church of God with the Rev. Warren Beavers and Dr. Samuel D. Adkerson officiating.
Burial will be in Rhea Memory Gardens, Dayton, Tenn.
Visitation will be today after 5 p.m. at Vanderwall Funeral Home, Dayton.

John Hunkapiller
John Pierce "Buster" Hunkapiller died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at his home. He was 58.
A memorial service will be today at noon at the home of Roy E. Hunkapiller, 2713 Suck Creek Lane.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Evlyn Lindberg
Evlyn M. Lindberg of Collegedale died Thursday, May 25, 2000, in a local health care center. She was 92.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with elder Dwight Herod and elder Paul Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Collegedale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Evlyn Lindberg Scholarship Endowment Fund at Southern Adventist University.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mitchell Mills Jr.
Mitchell Whitmire Mills Jr., infant son of Valorie and Mitchell Whitmire Mills Sr., died Thursday, May 25, 2000, in a local hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Johnnie Moore
Johnnie Mae Moore died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 83.
The funeral will be today at noon at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Adam McKee and the Rev. Barton Thigpen officiating.
Arrangements are by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Hubert Pless Jr.
Hubert A. Pless Jr., a former president of the Institute of Real Estate Management and of the Multiple Listing Service, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Alexian Village on Signal Mountain. He was 83.
Mr. Pless, a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, was a graduate of Chattanooga High School and the University of Chattanooga, where he was president of the student body. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and played in the Elks Club orchestra.
He was a member of the 828th Ordinance Co. during World War II and served on the board of elders at First Christian Church.
Mr. Pless was a lifetime fellow of the Chattanooga Kiwanis Club and a volunteer with both the Boy Scouts and the YMCA. He also was a member of the Senior Neighbors orchestra.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Collins Pless; son, Al Pless, Athens, Ga.; daughter, Nancy P. Cole, Kennesaw, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral was Friday at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church with the Rev. Lanny Lawler, the Rev. Alene Summerlin and the Rev. Phil Summerlin officiating.
Burial was in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Memorial Garden, 650 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37403.
Arrangements were by the West Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Edna Porter
Edna Holt Porter died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in Texas City, Texas, where she had gone to visit her son.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Siskin Foundation.

Charles Ross
Charles H. Ross Jr. died Monday, May 22, 2000, at his home. He was 66.
Mr. Ross, a native of Pennsville, N.Y., was a longtime resident of Chattanooga and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He became a pilot with the U.S. Air Force after the war. He also was a private pilot skilled in aerobatic flying.
He retired as an Federal Aviation Administration quality control inspector after 35 years and was a member of Hiram T. Dewey Masonic Lodge in Egg Harbor City, N.J.
Survivors include a son, Charles H. Ross III, Poway, Calif.; three grandchildren, all of California.
A graveside service will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity for youth.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Lakisha Sanders
Lakisha DeQuan Sanders died Saturday, May 20, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 26.
She was a member of Orchard Park Seventh-day Adventist Church, a graduate of Brainerd High School and a consultant for Mary Kay cosmetics.
She was the granddaughter of the late Clifford Sanders Jr. and Floyd Stovall.
Survivors include her mother, Norma Sanders; father, Larry Stovall; great-great-grandmother, Nally Yates; aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Orchard Park Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens.
The body will be at the funeral home after noon today.

Antonious Smith
Antonious D. Smith died Monday, May 22, 2000, in Nashville. He was 20.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with minister Darryl Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.

Dennie Thompson
Dennie Eugene Thompson of Soddy-Daisy died Friday, May 26, 2000. He was 64.
Arrangements will be announced by Williamson & Sons Funeral Home.
