Bert Patterson, 72, of Tamms died Saturday, July 15, 2007, at his home.
Mr. Patterson was born June 12, 1935, in Germantown, Tenn., son of Robert and Lecey Carter Patterson.
He was a farm laborer.
Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Brenda Patterson, and a sister, Bessy Taylor
Survivors include his wife, Anna (Davis) Patterson, of Tamms; four sons, David Patterson of Perryville, Mo., Thomas Patterson of Dongola, Ill., Bobby Patterson of Mounds, Ill., and Kenneth Patterson of Tamms; six daughters, Debbie Rigoby of Starksville, Miss., Barbara Swan of Cheyenne, Wyo., Sueann Tellor of Tamms, Ann McInnes and Linda McAlcine, both of Leonardtown, Md., and Tonya Patterson of Elksville, Ill.; a sister, Elizabeth Harvell of Tamms; three brothers, Fred Baker of Caraway, Ark., Pete Timbs of Millington, Tenn., and Elton Timbs of Atlanta, Ga.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18 at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Clark Short officiating. Interment will be in St. JohnÕs Cemetery, near Dongola.

Dr. Jean Boatright
Dr. Jean R. Boatright, 81, of Champaign, formerly of Anna, died Monday, July 9, 2007, at his home.
He was born March 28, 1926, in Saline County, Ill., son of Horace and Imo Nolen Boatright. He and Betty Glascock were married Jan. 19, 1952. She died Sept. 5, 1996.
Dr. Boatright retired as medical director of Anna Mental Health Center in 1987. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
He was a member of Mayo Alumni Association, University of Illinois Alumni Association, Air Force Association, Anna Rotary Club and American Legion. He was also a pilot.
He attained the rank of colonel in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas Boatright of Urbana, Ill., John Boatright of Jonesboro, Ill.; one daugher-in-law, Pam Boatright of Champaign; four grandchildren, Michael, Chad, Joshua and Jessica; and five great-grandchildren, Kindal Noelle, Brady, Braxton, Kaylee and Cohl.
Visitation was held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12 at Crain Funeral Home in Anna.
A graveside service followed immediately at Lindale Memorial Gardens in Eldorado, Ill. with Rev. Larry Buckles officiating and military rites conducted by Saline County VFW Post 3479.

Bobby West
Bobby E. West, born on the Walton Farm, Feb. 21, 1929 and passed away at 4:15, Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley (Hileman) West of Anna; one daughter, Lisa (Stephen) Jianakoplos of St. Louis, Mo.; one son Brian (Carol Gaskill) West of Indianapolis, Ind.; five grandchildren, Michele, Stephanie, Melanlie Jianakoplos and bryton and Josi West; thrree sisters Louise (Gene) Spring of Wolf Lake, Lillie Mae (Charles) Halterman of Anna and Wanda (Sonny) Beanland of Anna; one brother, John (Beth) West of Dyersburg, Tenn.; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene (Boyer) West and one sister, Doris Jean (Gene) Williams.
Mr. West was a local businessman for 55 years, owning and operating West DX and then West Sunoco. He also had a U-Haul dealership for 35 years and for 30 years was the rep for AAA Towing Service. He was a 50 year member of the Moose Lodge.
Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 12, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday July 13, 2007 at Crain Funeral Home in Anna.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Minor officiating. Interment followed in Casper Cemetery.

Betty Winters
Betty L. Winters, age 77, of Vienna, formerly of Metropolis and Pulaski, died at 7:40 a.m. Thursday, July 12 at the Western Baptist Hosptial in Paducah, Ky.
Mrs. Winters was born May 23, 1930 at Carbondale, daughter of the late George Borchelt and Helen Laughman Borchelt.
She was a lifetime member of the Christian Church, currently in Vienna and was a homemaker and a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Georgia Wood, and a great grandson, Austin Gabriel Bell.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Bro. William W. Winters; three sons, William D. ÒBillyÓ Winters of Villa Ridge, and Tommy G. Winters and Jason Crawford, both of Vienna; three daughters, Diane Adams of Kissimmee, Fla., and Debbie Grimes and Jenifer Fogle-Carter, both of Metropolis; one brother, Ralph Borchelt of Franklin, Tenn.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2007 at the Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge with Bro. Keith Bradley and Bro. Harold ÒGeneÓ Ebersohl officiating. Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Pulaski.
Friends called from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at the funeral home.

Sylvia Joyner
Sylvia L. (Edging) Joyner, 63, of Mounds died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Jan. 19, 1944, in Bardwell, Ky., daughter of Burnie E. and Callie P. Hollis Edging.
She was a bartender 21 years at Egyptian Country Club in Mounds.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and ex-husband, Charles ÒSpikeÓ Joyner on Dec. 8, 2003.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen and Kimberlee Joyner of Mounds; two sisters, Kitty Terry of Bardwell, Judy Haws of Mounds; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends called Sunday, July 15 from 5-8 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home inVilla Ridge.
Private interment will follow in a Bardwell, Ky cemetery at a later date.

Carlos Jordan
Carlos Dean Jordan, 69, of Tamms, formerly of Granite City, Ill., died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 17, 1938, in Elco, Ill., son of Oris Lee and Noma Helen Jordan. He married Josephine Hirtz.
Mr. Jordan was a former railroad employee, and retired from Township Highway Department. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tamms and a former member of the Family Worship Center.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Catherine Jordan-Morgan of Granite City, Noma Craddock of Anna, Ill.; three brothers, Howard ÒPee-WeeÓ Jordan of Olive Branch, Ill., Larry Jordan of Bunker Hill, Ill., Hugh Jordan of Granite City; a sister, Peggy Harlow of Anna; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three children, Annette, Jeanette, and Philip Dean Jordan; sisters, Norma Sharp and Geneva Mathias; and grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica Jordan.
Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2007 at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms.
The local funeral services were conducted at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lacie Betts officiating.
A second funeral service was held Tuesday, July 17 at 1 p.m. at the Family Worship Center near Granite City with entombment following in the Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Glen Carbon, Ill. with Rev. Eddie Brown officiating.

Jim D. Russell
Jim D. Russell, age 74 of Mounds, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at 5:28 a.m. at Missouri Delta Community Hospital in Sikeston.
He was born in Cairo on March 27, 1933, son of the late Harry and Era Hodges Russell. He was the accountant/comptroller for the Cairo Public Utlity Commission before his retirement.
He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Cairo where he served as a deacon and choir member. He also served as the former city treasurer for the city of Cairo.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Loraine Thompson Johnson.
Mr. Russell is survived by his wife, Ann Russell of Mounds; daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Mike Warren of Mounds; grandson, Michael Warren of Mounds; nieces, cousins and other relatives.
Visitation was held at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo where friends called from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2007.
Friends may also call from 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2007 at First Southern Baptist Church where funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Hoskins officiating. Interment will follow in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds.

Bobby Wilson
Bobby J. Wilson, 68, of Cairo died Friday, July 13, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 20, 1938, son of Opal and Edna Brown Wilson. He and Sue Lipe were married May 27, 1961. She died Jan. 22, 1998.
Mr. Wilson retired from Westvaco. He was a member of Resurrection Fellowship Church in LaCenter, Ky.
Survivors include a daughter, Pam Hicks of LaCenter; two sisters, Dalana Watson of Carbondale, Ill., and Idelle Tolson of Anna, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15 at the Crain Funeral Home in Tamms with Richard Hicks officiating. Interment followed in Olive Branch Cemetery.

Betty Jo Sadler
Betty Jo Sadler, age 78, of Anna, died suddenly, Thursday, October 11, 2007 at her home.
She was born on August 15, 1929 in Smithland, KY to Herbert and Velma (English) Lindsey. She married Joe Sadler on August 7, 1964. They had 32 loving years of marriage until his death on October 22, 1996.
She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Anna, a grandmother, mother, wife and friend in that order. Her church and church family meant more to her than anything else except for her grandchildren. She taught Sunday School at the church for many years, worked in the church library, and was a teacher in the childrenÕs church, was a greeter, and Hospitality Group.
As a children's church leader the kids were her focus and she had a gift of teaching even the youngest how important Christ was and how to make him part of their lives.
She was always available to help with funeral dinners and helped with the Relay for Life Dinners for several years.
She worked at Woolworth Stores in Carbondale and Selmier Peerless Towel Company also in Carbondale for 21 years.
She was a valued employee of Fashion Land in Anna and later became the owner for 5 1/2 years making many friends. Betty was the ultimate salesperson, no matter what her position or job title was, and as a salesperson you were the most important person in her store and she made sure you were happy when you left.
She was currently working as resident hostess, a job she loved very much, for Crain Funeral Home in Anna where she had served for 6 years. As a hostess no one was a stranger to her, for she was given a gift of making anyone feel welcome and was the most compassionate person, and in the saddest and most down times of a personÕs life, Betty knew how to make things feel a bit better, if only for a short time and always had a comforting word. She knew everyone and they knew her. She was an asset to her church, her friends and her employer.
What you probably knew most about her was everything to do with her grandchildren. If you look up friend in the dictionary it reads Òa person with whom one enjoys mutual affection and regard, a sympathizer, a helper.Ó That was Betty Sadler. She loved her Lord and Savior and is in his arms today.
She is survived by 2 sons, Wesley (Dishona) Wright of Anna and Dean (Cindy) Wright of Huntsville, NC; 1 stepson, Joey Sadler of Anna; 5 grandchildren, Brandon Wright of Champaign, IL, Casie Wright of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Jason and Chasity Wright of Fl and Tammie Wright of Pekin; 1 stepgrandson, Kevin of FL; 4 great grandchildren; Josie Rutland, whom she loved like a granddaughter; 1 sister, Joyce Hawthorne of Desoto; 2 brothers, William Lindsey of DeSoto and James ÒTriggerÓ Lindsey of Carbondale; June Bowen, who was like a sister to her; the staff at Crains whom she loved like family; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 6 sisters, Shirley Lipe, Lois Kathryn Lindsey, Evelyn Elliott, Marjorie Earlene Lindsey, Dorothy Rogers and Ruth Monroe and 1 brother Willis Lindsey.
Funeral services were held at 1:00PM, Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Paul Sadler and Rev.Tony Foeller officiating. Interment followed in Anna Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 5:00 Ð 8:00PM, Saturday, October 13, 2007 and 10:00AM until the funeral hour, Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna.
Per her request, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Anna or the American Cancer Society.

Glen Richards
Glen Raymond Richards age 56, of Easton, Pa., formerly of Mounds, Illinois, died at 11:45 P.M. Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at the Triumph Hospital in East St. Louis, IL.,
Glen was born December 18, 1950, at Granite City, Illinois, son of the late Justice and Francis Richards.
Glen was employed in the bakery business for 36 years, having worked for the Lewis Brothers Bakery in Anna, Illinois until it closed. At the time of his death, he was employed by Stroehmann Bakery as a Supervisor.
Glen was a former Volunteer Fireman and Police officer for the City of Mounds, and was the first Coordinater for the Pulaski County Ambulance Service.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, and a special uncle and aunt, Willis and Wilma Richards.
Survivors includes his wife, Sharon (East) Richards, a son and daughter-in-law. Glen Marshall and Jamie Richards and grandson, Tristen Bryce Richards now of Paducah, Kentucky, a cousin and mother in heart. Grace Richards of Mounds; sister, Mary F. Hurley, of Baltimore, Md.
Memorial services for Glen R. Richards will be 1:00 P,M, Saturday, October 20, 2007, at Center Methodist Church near Olmsted with Rev. Russell East and Rev, Jesse McPherson, officiating. Interment will follow in the Cache Chapel Cemetery east of Ullin.
Friends may call between 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M Saturday at the Church.

Nellie M. Wilson
Nellie M. Wilson, 75, of Mound City, Illinois, died Friday morning, October 12, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
She was born November 29, 1931, in Urbandale, Illinois, the daughter of the late Thomas Franklin and Marie Weaver Butler.
She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Mound City, and retired as a bookkeeper from Empire Gas Company in Mounds after thirty- five years of service.
In addition to her parents, Mrs, Wilson was preceded in death by one sister, Lola Grant, and three brothers, Charles, Nathan, and Richard Butler.
Nellie is survived by three sisters. Nancy Sharp, of Olmsted, Illinois; Mary Tomberlin, of Mound City, and Minnie Mackan, of Kansas City; one brother, James Butler of Olmsted; her niece Patsy Fitzgerald and her great-niece, Heather Graham, of Mound City; other relatives and many friends.
Visitation was at St. Marys Catholic Church in Mound City, where friends called from 9;30 a.m. Monday, October 15 until time for services.
The Funeral Mass for Mrs. Wilson will be conducted at 10;30 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2007 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Mound City with Rev. Fr. Chris Mujule as celebrant. Interment followed at St. Marys Cemetery in Mounds.
At the request of the family, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Marys Catholic Church in Mound City in memory of Mrs. Wilson.

Bettie Ferguson
Bettie Ferguson, age 75 of Jonesboro, died at 9:05AM, Tuesday, October 9,2007 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO.
She was born on October 18,1931 in Union County, DL to James Sherdan and Laura Matilda (Hooker) Clardy. She married Fan-ell E. Ferguson on June 15,1949. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1992.
She was a member of the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle Church in Jonesboro. She had worked at the former Anna State Hospital. She was active in the Senior Circle and the Sunshine Inn.
She is survived by 4 sons, Steve (Kathy) Ferguson.of Charleston, IL,-Bruce (Michelle) Ferguson of Port Ludlow, WA, Roger (Therese) Ferguson ofOÕFallon, MO and Alan (Kirn) Ferguson of Dongola; 7 grandchildren, Alicia, Amy, Melissa, Erin, Lindsey, John Michael and Liam; 3 great grandchildren, Caitlin, Rhiannon and Adriana; 2 sisters, Velma Tucker and Goldie Woods, both of Jonesboro; 1 sister-in-law, Lorraine Ferguson of Chesterfield, MO; 1 brother-in-law, Don Ferguson of Mt.Vernon, IL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 3 brothers, Elbert, Fred and Bill Clardy and 3 sisters, Mary Allen, June Ferguson and Ruby Allen.
Funeral services for Bettie Ferguson were held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 12,2007 at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. James Galbraith officiating. Interment will be in Anna Cemetery.

Deborah Roberson
Deborah Ann Roberson, 44, resident of Mounds, IL, died October 8,2007 at her home.
She was born September 14,1963 in Charleston, Missouri to Charles Jackson and Ethel Lee (Polly) Williams of Wilson City, Missouri.
She was a graduate of Charleston High School of Charleston, Missouri and a graduate of Shawnee Community College of Ullin, Illinois and was employed by the Mississippi Levee District until her health failed.
She was married to Alford McRay Roberson on January 28,2006 in Charleston who survives of the home.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by; one son, Charles Williams of Wilson City, one daughter, Tchonitniqua (Nicky) Lavette Williams of Mounds, IL; eight brothers; Willie Anderson, Ray Anders0n and George Williams of Peoria,IL, Bobby Larry Jones of Wilson City, James C. Jones of Cincinnati, OH, Melvin Williams and Charles Jackson, Jr., of Charleston and Ronald Jones of Yazoo, MS; seven sisters, Everiene (Kitty) Cummings of Peoria, IL, Teresa Greer of Wilson City, Vicky Jackson, Ruth Jackson, Linda Jackson, Pat Jackson and Karen Barbee of Peoria IL; 23 stepchildren, including: Alford Holmes of Villa Ridge, IL, Orlando Roberson of Champaign, IL, Nathaniel Roberson of Cape Girardeau, Razine Smith of Paducah and Ray-Ray Roberson of Detroit, MI, one granddaughter; 39 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends,
One son, Demetrius Williams has preceded her in death.

Robert Wesley Batson
Robert Wesley Batson, age 84, of Cobden, died at 3:25PM, Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro.
He was born on May 10,1923 in Alto Pass, IL to Roy and Lena (Grammer) Batson. He married Hazel Young on June 30,1944. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2004.
He retired from Laclede Steel where he had worked for 30 years.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Jeanette Kotosky of Anna and Linda Flavin of Carbondale; 1 son, Darrell Batson of Vienna; 9 grandchildren, Letha Lesar, Ray Angle, Kathleen Richey, John Angle, Paul Kotosky, Angela Batson, Josephine Kotosky, Mendy Batson and Molly Lang; 3 great grandchildren, Samantha Rydgig, Nicholas Lesar, Preston and Landon Richey; 1 great great grandchild, Layla Rydgig; a special friend, Anna Mae Guilders of Murphysboro; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, 1 daughter, Almeda Rotes, 1 son, Robert Wesley Batson Jr. and 10 siblings.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 12, 2007 at Crain Pleasant Grove Murdale Funeral Home, Old Rt. 13W between Carbondale and Murphysboro. Interment followed in Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 1:00 - 2:00 PM, Friday, October 12,2007 at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home.
