Christine Higginbotham Bonnette, 75, of Poca died February 7, 2000, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a short illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Putnam County, an employee of the Putnam County Aging Commission and a member of Poca Baptist Church.
Surviving: daughter, Connie Bonnette of Conway, South Carolina; son, Rick of High Point, North Carolina; sister, Delores Craigo of Poca; brothers, Glen Higginbotham of Poca and Eugene Higginbotham of Ohio; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held February 8, 2000 at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, with Pastor John Taylor officiating. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorial donations to a Christian church of choice.

William H. Wood
William Harvey “Bill” Wood, 79, of Hurricane died February 6, 2000, in General Division, CAMC, after a short illness.
He was a retired security guard from Florida Mining and Materials and was a lifelong resident of Hurricane.
Surviving: wife, Arminta Wood; son, Chuck of Richmond, Virginia; daughters, Cathey Bostic Hale of Houston, Cindy Halstead of St. Albans and Margie Sickles of Navasota, Texas; six grandchildren.
A memorial service was held February 9, 2000 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Gary White officiating. The family suggests memorial donations to Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2440 Route 60, Hurricane WV 25526.

Bertha B. Tucker
Bertha Beulah “Base” Tucker, 85, of Grimms Landing died February 6, 2000, at home after a long illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Putnam County, a homemaker and attended Manila Chapel Church.
Surviving: daughters, Lola Doss of Shrewsbury, Nancy Jividen of Manila Ridge, Beulah Oldaker and Sandy Lowe, both of Buffalo, Sherry Knapp of Leon, and Vickie Mackling of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; sons, Bobby and Otis, both of Robertsburg, Jim at home, Ed, John and Roger, all of Grimms Landing; 42 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held February 9, 2000 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Sampy Hart and Pastor Mick Bailes officiating. Burial was in Tucker Cemetery, Grimms Landing.

Betty J. Rutan
Betty J. Rutan, 73, of Red House died February 7, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh Independent Church, Red House.
Surviving: daughters, Nora Runions, Rita Higginbotham and Leah Beane, all of Red House, and Margie Oldaker of Buffalo; sons, Norman D. and Howard F., both of Red House; sister, Viola Jean Burgraff of Holly Hill, Florida; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Service was held February 11, 2000 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Larry Covert officiating. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery, Red House.

Dorothy Christine “Red House Granny” Whittington Hartley, 78, of Red House died February 7, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Putnam County, a former employee of Eleanor Hosiery Mill and a homemaker.
Surviving: daughter, Patricia Ann Priddy of Eleanor; sons, Ralph Wayne Whittington of Buffalo, Kenneth Hartley Jr. of Marysville, Ohio, William Keith Hartley of Marion, Ohio, and Greg Hartley of Red House; brothers, Oscar A. Delcie M. Wolfe Harmon, 91, of Buffalo died February 9, 2000, in Teays Valley Nursing Center after a short illness.
She was a homemaker, attended Cross Creek Community Church, Buffalo, and was a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
Surviving: daughters, Hilda Nunn of Buffalo and Betty Davis of Carroll, Ohio; sisters, Alma Bailes and Mary Smith of Grimms Landing; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Golda P. Hill
Golda P. Hill, 98, of Hurricane died February 10, 2000, in Teays Valley Nursing Center after a long illness.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving: son, Lloyd Gene of Hurricane; sister, Kathryn Jones of Charleston; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held February 12, 2000 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Lee Morris and the Rev. Delmar Young officiating. Burial was in Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek.

Betty L. Williams
Betty Louise Williams, 64, of Hurricane, formerly of St. Albans, died February 8, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving: daughter, Vanessa Williams of St. Albans; son, Vaughn of St. Albans; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Catherine Tackett
Catherine “Kitty” Tackett, 69, of Hurricane died February 10, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital.
She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.

James C. Chandler
James Cecil Chandler, 79, of Lima, Ohio, formerly of Fraziers Bottom, died February 11, 2000, in Richland Manor, Lima, after a long illness.
He was a retired machinist for Thurman Scale Co., Columbus, and attended Beaverdam Church of Christ. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, where he was recipient of the Pacific Theater Medal, American Theater Medal and Victory Medal.
Surviving: daughters, Shirley S. McKee of Lexington, North Carolina, Wanda A. Wireman of Lima, Mabel A. Carpenter of Hurricane, Judith M. Carpenter of Heath, and Teresa Ellen Riley of Pliny; sons, Vernon L. of Apple Grove, Wayne of Huntington, Roy W. of Fraziers Bottom, and Charles W. of Heath; sisters, Mary Meadows of Apple Grove, Martha Nelson of Hurricane, and Velma Henderson of Columbus; 36 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Service was held February 14, 2000 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Mike Rader officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Church Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom.

Dorothy Conner Russell
Dorothy Conner Russell, 87, of Barboursville, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, February 11, 2000, at Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge, by the Rev. Craig Coster. Burial in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. She was born April 24, 1912, in Alderson, W.Va., a daughter of the late Perry E. and Mae Woodson Conner. Mrs. Russell was a graduate of Alderson High School and Charleston School of Commerce, and was a former employee of the Secretary of State's Office in Charleston and later the U.S. Treasury Department in Huntington and Charleston. She was a member of Barboursville Baptist where she served on the Flower Committee for several years, a former member of the Barboursville Women's Club, Homemaker's Club, Floral Guild and Garden Club. A sister, Virginia Conner, also preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Finley W. Russell; one son and daughter-in-law, William F. and Brenda K. Russell of Barboursville; and one granddaughter, Joan Carol Russell of Barboursville.

Tillman Diamond
Tillman Diamond, 80, of Milton, WV, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, Feb. 11 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with the Rev. Mark A. Martin and Curtis Cupp officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born on Feb. 21, 1919, in Louisa, KY, a son of the late Edgar and Lillie Mae Boggs Diamond. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Roberta Sullivan, Mary Pancake, and Kathleen McCoy. Tillman was a graduate of Milton High School. He was a retired operator for Union Carbide, South Charleston Plant. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 139, Milton. He was also a member of the VFW, Post 9796, Milton. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Howell Diamond; two daughters and one son-in-law, Gypsy Easter of Dunbar, WV, and Deborah and Tom Harshbarger of Milton, WV; three sisters, Gracie Lewis of Milton, Caroline Cupp of Eden, NC, and Dora Cyrus of Hampton, VA; four grandchildren, David Harshbarger, Lisa Easter, Derek Chapman, and Carrie Ferguson; one step grandson, Michael Harshbarger; three great-grandchildren, Kayla Harshbarger, Dale Thomas Ferguson, Mackenzie Easter, two step great-grandchildren, Paige and Garrett Harshbarger.

James William Dunford
James William Dunford, 64, of Barboursville, died Sunday, February 6, 2000, at home. He was born October 21, 1935, in Barboursville, a son of the late Herbert and Mary Eden Dunford. He is survived by one brother, Fred Dunford of Lansdale, Pennsylvania. Memorial services were conducted Wednesday, February 9, 2000, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Pastor Martha Ongibene. Graveside services were conducted Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000 at Ridgelawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Phyllis J. Haggerty, 67, of Milton, WV, died Wednesday, February 9, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital. Services were conducted Saturday, February 12, 2000 at Milton Funeral Home by Pastor Paul Meadows. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Born June 21, 1932 in Mason, WV, she was the daughter of the late Imogene Gibbs Walker of New Haven, WV. Survivors include her husband of 49 years; James (Sonny) Haggerty; four daughters, one son and ten grandchildren, Cathy Batey - Tyler, Casey and Kevin of Milton, Connie and Curtis Roush - Ryan and Jason of West Columbia, WV, Cindy and Edwin Ray - Jodie and Chad of Milton, Carla and Larry Leadman - Eric and Tracie of Milton and Curry and Brooke Haggerty - Haley Jo of Milton.

Mabel Eliza Freeman
Mabel Eliza Freeman, 77, of Ona, widow of Ralph Freeman, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000 in St. Mary's Hospital. She was a homemaker. Survivors include on brother, Arrie Davis of Ashton; and two sisters, Elizabeth Freeman of Ona and Opal Argabrite of Barboursville. Funeral was held Saturday, February 12th at Henson Mortuary; burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. There was no visitation.

Hubert L. “Dick” Hughes
Hubert L. “Dick” Hughes, 87, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 11, 2000 at his residence. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Feb. 14 at 1:00 PM at Bias Chapel, Milton, with the Rev. Forrest Cummings officiating. Burial in the Bias Chapel Cemetery. He was born Nov. 4,1912 in Milton, a son of the late Charles Wesley and Edna Qualls Hughes. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Glenda Gail Vallance and one grandson, Jamie R. Bryan. He was a member of Bias Chapel. He was a member of the Lebanon Lodge 68 AF & AM, Milton. He was also a member of Local 505, Huntington. Survivors include his wife, Louella Spurlock Hughes; one son, Kevin Scott Hughes of Ona; two daughters, Deloris “DJ” McDonie of Milton and Erma Rierson of Diggs, VA; one stepson, Danny R. Bryan of Huntington; one step-daughter, Susan Bryan Hensley of Newnan, GA; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Brady Walker Williams
Brady Walker Williams, 86, of Milton, passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2000 at SunBridge Nursing Home, Hurricane. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Feb. 14 at 1:00 PM at Heck Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Abreu officiating. Burial in Zoar Cemetery, Milton. He was born Nov. 6,1913 in Milton, WV, a son of the late Ryland and Nannie Carter Williams. He was a retired gas well driller for South Eastern Gas Company. He was a member of the Tabernacle of Praise. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Eva Kirtley Williams; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Diana of Ashland, KY, John and Sharon of Milton, and Riley and Kay of Eleanor, WV; three daughters and one son-in-law, Miriam Morgan, Barbara and Marvin Ball, and Brenda Foster, all of Milton: fourteen grandchildren, Lisa Bowen, Teresa Keeney, Daren Ball, Jackie, Jeff and Brittany Williams, Michael Glen, John “Tinker”. and Amy Williams, Steve “Wes” and Michael Foster, “Will” and Miranda Williams and Ralph Morgan, Jr.; three stepgrandchildren Shane and Farrah Templeton, and Stacy Hodge; four great-grandchildren, Summer and Caleb Bowen, Stormi Williams, and Taylor Foster, two step-great-grandchildren, Hallie Templeton and Carli Hodge;.a special family friend, “Apple” Bantaa. Nonie V. Ross
Nonie V. Ross, 88, of Salt Rock, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2000, in Lincoln Continuous Care Center, Hamlin. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 13, 2000, at Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge, by the Rev. Sherwood Thompson and the Rev. Buck Adkins. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery, Branchland. She was born May 30, 1911, in Cabell.County, a daughter of the late James 0. and Quillie Jeffers Cremeans. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendly United Baptist Church, Salt Rock. Her husband, Lloyd Ross, preceded her in death in 1977. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Austin and Betty Ross of Branchland and Larry and Molly Ross of Huntington; two sisters, Opal Holton of Salt Rock and Lois Ferguson of Barboursville; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge, was in charge arrangements.

Ford L. Roberts
Ford L. Roberts, 76, a lifelong resident of Milton, WV, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, in Boise, Idaho. Graveside funeral services were conducted Sunday, Feb. 13 in the White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Barboursville, WV, with Rev. Keith Leap officiating. A military committal service was conducted by American Legion Post 139, Milton, where he was a life member. Ford was born in Milton, the son of the late George and Lydia Chapman Roberts, on April 7,1923. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Borden. He graduated from Milton High School in 1941. During the early part of WWII he lived in Baltimore, MD, where he worked for Glen L. Martin Aircraft. In 1942, he married his high school sweetheart, Elma Lillian .”Daisy” King. Ford was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944, serving in the European Theater where he received a Bronze Star. Ford returned to Milton, where he and Elma Lillian maintained a home for over 50 years. He worked for Blenko Glass from 1947-1948 and at the Union Carbide Institute Plant from 1949-1980, when he retired. Survivors in addition to his wife, Elma Lillian, are three children, Marsha and Kim. both of Boise and Kitty of Alexandria, VA; three grandsons, William Patrick Roberts of Seattle, WA, James Patrick Harshbarger of Wilmington, DE, and Samuel David Harshbarger of Saratoga Springs, NY; one great-grandson, David Moore Harshbarger of Wilmington; one sister, Helen Gentry of Milton. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Asc., Suite 1100, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60611-1676 in lieu of flowers. Cards and letters may be sent to his widow at 3674 LaMesita Way, Boise, ID 83702.

Easter Virginia Racer, 82, of Hurricane died February 13, 2000, in Sunbridge Care Center after a long illness.
She was a retired shoe salesperson, having worked in various Charleston stores. She was a Baptist and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
Surviving: brother, Kenneth R. Lucas of Milton.
Graveside service was February 16, 2000 at Mount Olive Cemetery, Hurricane, with the Rev. J.D. Harrah officiating. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Inous G. Lee
Inous G. Lee, 89, of St. Albans, formerly of Hurricane, died February 13, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Temple, St. Albans.

James E. Jacobs Jr.
James Edward Jacobs Jr., 86, of Hurricane, formerly of Marmet, died February 15, 2000, in Sunbridge Nursing Home after a long illness.
He was a retired member of the Boilermakers Union.
Surviving: wife, Roxanne Jacobs; daughters, Theresa Boardman of Fort Pierce, Florida and Judy Perez of Teays Valley; son, Douglas of Cross Lanes; brother, Forest of Marmet; sisters, Edna Smith of Washington and Warden Sams of Marmet; 14 grandchildren; four great -grandchildren.
Memorial service was held February 18, 2000 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Culloden, with Joe Bentley Sr. officiating. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements. Larry E. Lawson
Larry Eugene Lawson, 61, of Hurricane died February 15, 2000, at home after a short illness.
He was retired from Union Carbide with 35 years' service. He was an employee of West Virginia Steel and was a Navy veteran.
Surviving: wife, Teresa Lawson; sons, Harold Cole III of Wilmington, North Carolina and Scott Cole of Hurricane; daughters, Brandy Stevenson of Milton, Virginia Priestley and Cynthia Lawson, both of Hurricane; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with minister Harold White officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. The family suggests memorial donations to the Putnam County Animal Shelter, Winfield.

Boyd A. Turley
Boyd A. Turley, 92, of Scott Depot, formerly of Charleston, died February 15, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital.
He was retired from the U.S. Post Office, Charleston, with 28 years' service. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, Teays Valley, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Surviving: son, Edgell S. Turley of Charleston; brother, Earl Turley of South Charleston; grandchildren, Mark Turley, Kyle Turley, Jean Blake and Scott Turley; two great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. L. Frank Frye and the Rev. Martin H. Hallett officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

James E. Craig, 73, of Buffalo died February 16, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
He was a retired welder from Buffalo Manufacturing Co., Eleanor, with 10 years' service, an automobile mechanic, a member of the Boilermakers Union and a Methodist.
Surviving: wife, Dorothy A. Mitchell Craig; daughters, Mary Ann Blankenship and Connie Jean Craig, both of Buffalo, Betty Louise “Susie” Knapp of Johnston, Ohio, and Sharon Lynn Stowers of Charleston; sons, William H. of Raleigh, North Carolina and Glenn Dale of Buffalo; sisters, Ella Hill and Iona Grady, both of Buffalo, Jo Higginbotham of Grimms Landing, and Hazel Absten of Winfield; brothers, Howard and Roy, both of Buffalo, Cleon “Rusty” of Robertsburg, and Johnny; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Hazel G. Abbott, 90, of Hurricane died February 17, 2000, in Teays Valley Nursing Center.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving: daughter, Polly Mynes of Hurricane; granddaughters, Julie Casto of Concord, California and Jody Rollins of Beckley; three great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Trace Fork Cemetery, near Hurricane.

Golbert L. Fletcher
Gilbert Lee “Gibb” Fletcher, 82, of Winfield, formerly of Gallipolis, Ohio, died February 18, 2000, in VA Medical Center, Huntington, after a short illness.
He was a former construction worker and an Army veteran of World War II. He received the Bronze Star.
Surviving: several cousins.
Service was held February 22, 2000 at Chapman-Erskine Funeral Home, Winfield with the Rev. Clifford Wilcoxen officiating. Burial was in Teays Hill Cemetery, St. Albans.

Charles F. Gore
Charles F. Gore, 96, of Largo, Florida, formerly of Teays Valley, died February 13, 2000, in Largo Medical Center.
He was a retired Army major. He was retired from real estate and private law practice in St. Albans. He was a graduate of West Virginia University College of Law and was a charter member of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church, Scott Depot.
Surviving: daughter, Alice Gore of Largo; newphews, William Hastings and Donald Mann, both of Virginia.
Service was held February 21, 2000 at Cunningham Memorial Park Lower Mausoleum Chapel, St. Albans, with the Rev. J.D. Harrah officiating. Burial followed in the cemetery. Rev. Irving D. Wheeler
The Rev. Irving D. Wheeler, 92, of Hurricane died February 18, 2000, in Teays Valley Nursing Center after a long illness.
He was a retired specialty advertising representative for Giger Brothers, a real estate broker, a member of Teays Valley Assembly of God and a Bible class teacher. He was co-founder of the Church of God, Chesapeake, and a volunteer chaplain at Thomas Memorial Hospital, and conducted monthly services at Morris Memorial Nursing Home, Milton. He was a native of Fremont, Iowa.
Surviving: wife, Julie E.; son, Gene of Boca Raton, Florida; granddaughter, Ena J. Wheeler of Charleston; one niece; one nephew.
Service was February 22, 2000 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Laird Fain and the Rev. Jeff Nichols officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane. The family suggests memorial donations to Teays Valley Assembly of God Building Fund, PO Box 355, Teays WV 25569.

Alma Eloise Whitrock Mannon
Alma Eloise Whitrock Mannon, 78, of Milton, WV, formerly of Willow Wood, OH, died Friday, February 18, 2000 at Mariner Health Care in Huntington, WV after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted February 22, 2000, at Schneider-Slack Funeral Home, Chesapeake, OH with Rev. Darrell Fowler and Rev. Carl Black officiating. She was born May 12, 1921, a daughter of the late Oden E. and Nannie Hall Whitrock. She was a homemaker and a 52 year member of New Zion United Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Mannon; one great grandson, Joseph E. Jenkins; one great granddaughter, Shannon Dishman; and one sister, Jean Wall. She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Stapleton of Milton, WV; one stepson, Lloyd Mannon of Dumas, TX; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; eighteen step great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Bernice Whitrock of Proctorville, OH; and one sister, Pearl Murdock of Huntington, WV. Burial in Locust Grove Cemetery, Scottown, OH.

Steven Brent Williams
Steven Brent Williams, 44, of Salt Rock, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 18, 2000. Funeral services were conducted at Tuesday, February 22, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born September 4, 1955 in Beckley, WV, a son of the late D.E. Williams and Anna Jane Rudd Williams. He is the former owner and superintendent of Williams Electric. He was a member of the Cyrus Creek Baptist Church, WV Bow Hunters Association, Huntington Archery Club, and a former member of the WV Contractors Association. He was a devoted husband and is survived by his wife, Connie Whitmer Williams; loving father to his two daughters, Amanda Williams and Rebecca Williams, and one son, Brent Williams, all of Salt Rock, WV; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy Williams of Gaithersburg, MD, Pamela and Don Hagley of Barboursville, WV, Cathy and Alan George of Allison Park, PA, and Gina and Kim Humphreys of Hollywood, FL; granddaughter, Morgan Williams; seventeen nieces and nephews; three brothers-in-law and their spouses and his father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Gene and Idella Whitmer, all of Somerset, OH; and several very special friends.

Ada Sue Coy
Ada Sue Coy, 48, of Huntington, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 21, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Ralph Perdue. Burial in Kyle Cemetery. She was born June 15, 1951 in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Hazel Samuel and Mary Mae Steele Coy. She is survived by her husband, Stevie Eugene Fetty, Sr.; son, Stevie Eugene Fetty, Jr. of Huntington; two sisters, Wonetta Black and Vicki Coy, both of Huntington; three brothers, Everett Samuel Coy of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Lou Franklin Coy and Ricky Coy, both of Huntington; a special nephew, Sammy Jason Coy; and a special friend, Joyce Step.

Edna Vivian Crabtree
Edna Vivian Crabtree, 88, of Huntington widow of Cecil Crabtree died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 in St. Mary's Hospital. She was a homemaker. Survivors include five daughters, Mary Ann Haines of California, Carolyn Gray of Grove City, Ohio, Jane Smith and Ruth Wandling, both of Milton, and Barbara Mills of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, Jerry Copple of Decatur, Ohio and Roy Copple of Ripley, Ohio; two sisters, Ruth Shively and Evelyn Troutman, both of Ohio; and one half brother, Donald Holton of Decatur. Funeral held Monday, February 21, 2000 at First Huntington Christian Baptist Church; burial in Decatur Cemetery. Ferrell Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Richard Poling
Harold Richard Poling, 70, of Barboursville, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 20, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Steve Nida with special singing by Bill and Darlene Morris. Burial in Forest Memorial Park. He was born June 13, 1927 in Cabell County, a son of the late Melville and Eliza McComas Poling. He was retired from Connors Steel. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and was a member of Beulah Ann Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Poling. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Rick Beckett of Salt Rock; one son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Marsha Poling of Barboursville; one sister, Elsie “Fern” Ferguson of Huntington; one grandson, Brandon Beckett; one aunt, Mildred McComas of Huntington; one uncle, Rev. Homer Poling of Daytona Beach, Florida; a special friend, Bruce Anderson who helped with his care; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Pallbearers were Louie Adkins, Dallas Harden, Bud Lucas, Bernard Beckett, Walt Layne and Bruce Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Morris and Ivan Blankenship.

Hazel Geraldine Black
Hazel Geraldine Black, 71 of Barboursville, WV, passed away February 16, 2000 at Ohio State University Hospital, after a long illness. Funeral service were conducted Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Winford Curry and Rev. Carl Merritt. She was born July 24, 1928 in Huntington, a daughter of the late Phillip and Josephine Martin Baumgardner. She was a member of Cyrus Creek Baptist Church and was preceded in death by one son, Greg Black; two granddaughters and one great-grandson. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Richard Black; four daughters, Sandra Gail Hickman, of Milton; Linda Kay Gardner of Whitehall, OH, Connie Elaine Woodard of Ona, and Karen R. Black of Milton; two sons, Richard L. Black, Jr., of Pedro, OH and Stephen Phillip Black of Culloden, WV; sixteen granchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

Mrs. Hazel G. Abbott
Mrs Hazel G. Abbot, age 90, of Hurricane, died Feb. 17, 2000 in Teays Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was a homemaker. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Polly and Buster Mynes of Hurricane; two granddaughters, Julie Casto of Concord, Calif. and Jody Rollins of Beckley, WV; one great granddaughter, Laura Anna Casto of Concord, Calif.; and two great grandsons, Joey and Josh Rollins of Beckley, WV. Services were conducted Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000 at Allen Funeral Home with Mr. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial in Trace Fork Cemetery, near Hurricane.

Eva Marie Holley Hash
Eva Marie Holley Hash, widow of former Mayor Boyd Allen Hash of Barboursville, died suddenly of in aortic embolism on Tuesday, February 15, 2000. Mrs. Hash was born March 1, 1910, in Huntington, West Virginia, to the late Ura and Allie Braley Holley. She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Janet and Frederick Altizer of Huntington, three grandsons and their wives, Christopher and Vicky Altizer of Barboursville, John and Cecilia Altizer of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Joseph and Glenna Altizer of Barboursville; also two great-granddaughters, Catherine Ann and Sarah Bethany Altizer; three great-great-grandchildren, Caroline Marie (her “Joy” girl), Gabriel Edward and Madeline Jorden; one brother, Vernon Holley of Indiana, Pennsylvania; one sister and her husband, Garnett and Roma Morrison of Punta Gorda, Florida; one sister-in-law, Eloise Hash Pope of Milton; many nephews, nieces and great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Mrs. Hash (known as “Bobbie” to many people) graduated from Marshall Teachers College, was a bookkeeper for Southern States Cooperative, and during her long life was a member of many civic organizations. She was past president of The Barboursville Womans Club, the Farm Womens Association, and The Barboursville Garden Club. With her husband, she was also instrumental in establishing the Senior Citizens Club of Barboursville in the 1960s.
In her later years her interest in genealogy, and her phenomenal memory kept her active and involved with her far flung family. She was also very proud of the original motivational skit entitled “The Tater Sisters,” which she wrote and presented over the years to many civic organizations in several states. The program was later given to the Parent Teachers Association for their exclusive use. A service of remembrance was conducted on Friday, February 18, at the Wallace Funeral Home by Rev. Fred Kitchen. Graveside services were held Saturday, February 19, 2000, in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.

Leonard N. Seldomridge
Mr. Leonard N. Seldomridge, 80, of Huntington, WV, died Monday, February 14, 2000, at home following a short illness. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, February 17, 2000, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington with Garrett Riggs officiating. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park. Leonard was born December 28, 1919, in Hinton, WV, a son of the late Nelson and Anna Mullins Seldomridge. He was a retired major from the U.S. Army and a veteran of WWII. He also retired from Bell Atlantic as a supervisor with 30 plus years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 93 of Kenova whose members conducted military graveside rites. Leonard was Methodist by faith. During his retirement years he spent time at his camp on the New River where he loved to fish and garden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice McColgan Seldomridge, three sisters and two brothers, Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Lenny and Jenny Seldomridge of Culloden, WV, and David and Sue Ellen Seldomridge of Dawsonville, GA; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Rick Vass of Beckley, WV; a sister, Norma Parks of VA; two brothers, Eldon Seldomridge and his wife Jackie, also of VA, and Billy Joe Seldomridge of FL; three granddaughters, Amy Kelly and husband Chris of Watkinsville, GA, Leigh Ann Wearne and husband Eric of Suwanee, GA, and Megan N. McCoy of Beckley, WV; and one great-grandson, Justin Kelly.
