Lula McGraw Trail, 92, of Hurricane died October 29, 2000, in Wilson's Personal Care Home, Teays Valley.
She was a Christian and a lifelong resident of Hurricane.
Surviving: daughter, Betty Trail Burns of St. Albans; sons, John of Ormond Beach, Florida and James L. of St. Albans; brother, Eual McGraw of Cabin Creek; caregiver, Georgia Wilson; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
Service was held Wednesday, November 1, 2000, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Janet E. Hodges
Janet E. Hodges, 84, of Hurricane died October 31, 2000, at home after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and owner of A to Z Supermarket.
Surviving: daughter, Anna Lou Bledsoe; sons, David, Ronald and John, all of Hurricane; sister, Mary Young of Hurricane; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, November 2, 2000, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Darrell Tolley
Darrell “DAT” Tolley, 73, of Scott Depot died November 1, 2000, at home after a short illness.
He was a member of Hurricane Church of the Nazarene and retired from FMC Corp., South Charleston, with 39 years' service. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a survivor of the USS Princeton sinking.
Surviving: wife, Delma Tolley; daughters, Rosalee Ashley of Sissonville, Karen Smith of Florida, Nancy Holliday of South Carolina, and Joyce Fandol of Colorado; sons, Wayne of Alabama, David and Darrell Jr., both of Florida; sister, Pauline Green of South Charleston; brothers, Doyal of South Charleston, Eugene of Charleston, William and Donald, both of Elkview, Curtis and Glen Roy, both of Pinch; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Service was held Friday, November 3, 2000, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Johnny Withrow officiating. Burial was in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Frederick D. Bachtel
Frederick D. Bachtel, 84, of Tallmadge died Oct. 23, 2000.
He was a retired machine shop foreman from Goodyear Aerospace, a native of Jackson County, WV, a member of Tallmadge United Methodist Church, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of UAW.
Surviving: wife, Reve Bachtel; son, Jeffrey D. of Tallmadge; sister, Frances Wick of Winfield, WV; two grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000 at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, WV, with the Rev. Darrell Gooden officiating. Burial in Ravenswood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Foundation for Underserved Rural Communities.

Kenneth R. Gunter
Kenneth R. Gunter, 71, of Franklin Furnace, formerly of St. Albans, WV, died Oct. 23, 2000, in Kings Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, KY, after a long illness.
He was a retired stationary engineer from New Boston Coke Corp. He was a Methodist and an Air Force veteran.
Surviving: wife, Joan Kay Hughes Gunter; daughter, Debra L. Gunter of Titusville, Fla.; niece, whom he raised, Doris Keefer of Winfield, WV; several additional nieces and nephews.
Services were held Friday, Oct. 27, 2000 at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home, Ironton, Ohio, with the Rev. Bernard Tilley officiating. Burial in Haverhill Cemetery. The family suggests donations to Haverhill United Methodist Church.

Blanche Juanita Hescht
Blanche Juanita Hescht, 88, of Eleanor died Oct. 24, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital, Hurricane, after a long illness.
She was a member of Grace Fellowship Church, Hurricane.
Surviving: husband, Gale C. Hescht; daughters, Jean McClain of Cross Lanes, Peryl Thompson of Palm Bay, Fla., Phyllis Gibson of Johnson City, Tenn.; son, Paul of Fremont, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Services were held Friday, Oct. 27, 2000 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Robert Jones officiating. Burial in Willow Island Cemetery, Waverly.

Patricia Totten Hillis
Patricia Totten Hillis, 62, of Jacksonville, formerly of Winfield, WV, died Oct. 6, 2000 after a long illness.
Surviving: husband, John Hillis; daughter, Cindy Hillis of Jacksonville; brother, Leonard Totten of Flint, Mich.; sisters, Doris Camp of Flint, Violet Eggleton and Joyce Call, both of Winfield; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Oct. 26, 2000 in Teays Valley Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Charles Larue officiating. The body was cremated.

Vernon Gene Wilcoxen
Vernon Gene Wilcoxen, 60, of Winfield died Oct. 23, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
He was a farmer and a lifelong resident of Winfield.
Surviving: daughters, Nancy Gibson and Pauline Tabor, both of Hurricane; mother Garnet Wilcoxen Shue of Winfield; brothers, the Rev. Clifford of Hurricane, Wendell of Winfield; two grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, Oct, 26, 2000 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Joe Dolen officiating. Burial in Lower Hodges Cemetery, Winfield.

Deborah L. Barton
Deborah Lynn Barton, 45, of Scott Depot died October 27, 2000, at home from cancer.
She was a member of Winfield Baptist Church and was a 22-year employee of Kmart Corp., having worked in Huntington and Scott Depot.
Surviving: husband, Donnie Barton; daughter, Brooke Barton at home; stepson, Donnie of Belle; parents, Donald and Evelyn Harrison of Red House; sister, Carolyn Smith of Red House.
Service was held Sunday, October 29, 2000, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. John H. Taylor and the Rev. Doug McComas officiating. Burial was in Wade Chapel Cemetery, Red House. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Lauren E. Curry
Lauren Elizabeth Curry, infant daughter of Thomas Aaron and Christine Elizabeth Curry of Winfield, was stillborn October 24, 2000, in Women and Children's Hospital, CAMC.
Also surviving: maternal grandparents, Mike and Carrol Ratkoski of Cazenovia, New York; paternal grandparents, Keith and Carma Curry of Parkersburg.
Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to American Red Cross, Central WV Chapter, 1605 Virginia Street E, Charleston WV 25301.

Leonard B. Curry
Leonard B. Curry, 78, of Scott Depot, formerly of East Bank, died October 26, 2000, after a long illness.
He was retired from Carbon Fuel Coal Co. He was a member of UMW, the American Legion and Henson Senior Citizen Center and a veteran of World War II.
Surviving: wife, Phyllis; daughters, Fontaina Scott of Pliny and Renee Vickers of Hurricane; son, Jeffrey of Proctorville, Ohio; sisters, Belva Williams of Diamond, Cleo Canterbury of Franklin, Ohio, Jean Looman of Cross Lanes, Janet Howard of Dupont City, and Clara Lee Acher of Shinston; brothers, Billy Curry of Indiana, Charles Curry of Fairborn, Ohio, and John Curry of Charlotte, North Carolina; five grandchildren.
Service was held Saturday, October 28, 2000, at Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Charles V. Williams officiating. Burial was in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Pryor Funeral Home, East Bank, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene, PO Box 259, Teays WV 25569, or to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Evelyn Waltz
Evelyn Waltz, 83, of Hurricane died October 27, 2000, in Hurricane after a long illness.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Hurricane, and was a homemaker.
Surviving: son, John of St. Louis; daughters, June Peters of Topeka, Kansas, Jan Sullivan of Elkins, and Joyce Daniels of Charleston; sisters, Esther Witmer of Pennsylvania, Kathryn Gransee of Clearfield PA, Ruth Furman of Palmer, Alaska, Betty Luzier and Joan Stiner, both of Woodland PA; three grandchildren.
Service was held Monday, October 30, 2000, at First Baptist Church, Hurricane, with the Rev. Mike Derry, the Rev. Jerry Losh and Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 2635 Main Street, Hurricane WV 25526.

John William Hager
John William Hager, 49, of Huntington, widower of Connie Sue Hager, died Wednesday in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Survivors include his mother, Ruth V. Dillon; one daughter, Kristal Ward of Huntington; two sons Ricky Hager of Huntington and John Clay Hager of Tampa, Fla; and three sisters, Jo Ann McCarthy Of Peprell, Mass., Jerry Ann Patten of New Hampshire and Judy Lea Hager of Huntington. Funeral was held Sunday, October 29th, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Neal Cemetery, Milton.

Homer A. McComas
Mr. Homer A. McComas, 81, of Huntington, W.Va., died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at Beard Mortuary with Rev. Caudle Adkins and Rev. Rick Black officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born Feb. 1, 1919 in Huntington, a son of the late Alfred Paxton McComas and Clara Alice Winters McComas. He was a retired paint contractor. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Roy Lee McComas; five sisters, Onie Bowden, Essie Thomas, Addie Grizzell, Myrtle McComas and Minnie McComas; and five brothers, Elmer, Herman, Edward and Walter McComas, and his special brother, Dorman Sargent. He was a member of Thomas Memorial Free Will Baptist Church. He was a World War 11 Army Veteran. Homer is survived by his wife, Peggy Gore McComas; four daughters and sons-in-law, Della and Larry Courts of Milton, Kimberly Pressley of Barboursville, Mernie and Tim Mills of Huntington, and Mary Jo and Wayne Brown of Huntington; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Brenda McComas of Proctorville, Richard H. and Nancy McComas of Waverly, Ohio, Bryan and Tabitha Welch of Grayson, Ky., and Homer E. and Diane McComas of Charleston, W.Va.; 18 grandchildren; 21 greatgrandchildren; and his special friends, Gladys Sargent and Lorena and Robert Shank. Beard Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Alma Pinson
Alma Pinson, 97, of Milton, formerly of Wayne, died Sunday, October 29, 2000. She was a retired cook with the Ohio River Co. and a housekeeper and companion for the Winter Park Towers Retirement Center, Fla. Survivors include three sisters, Marjorie Perdue of Kenova, Maude McComas of Proctorville, Ohio and Ethel Farley of Fayetteville. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 31, 2000 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne; burial in Crockette Family Cemetery, Wilson Creek, Wayne.

Robert “Bob” Allen Setliff
Robert “Bob” Allen Setliff, 42, of Culloden, husband of Teresa Davis Setliff, died Thursday at home. He was a truck driver for U.S. Food Service. Also surviving are two daughters, Carrie and Jessica Setliff, both at home; one sister, Debbie Spurgeon', three brothers, Ernest Setliff Jr. of Milton, Roger Setliff and Randy Setliff, both of Culloden. Funeral services were held Monday, October 30th, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; burial in Forest Memorial Park.

Dallas Franklin Smith
Dallas Franklin Smith, 46, of Milton, husband of Ethel Smith. died Thursday in Mason County. Also surviving are his mother, Mary Ann Legg Smith; one son Bud Smith of Milton; three daughters, Ronita Smith and Gustie Call, both of Milton, and Margaret Call of Hurricane; two brothers, Roy Rogers Smith and Richard H. Smith, both of Milton; and one sister, Bonnie Utt of Culloden. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 29th, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Culloden Cemetery.

Martha Jane King Sowards
Martha Jane King Sowards, 92, of Culloden, widow of Vessie Sowards, died Saturday in Putnam General Hospital. She was a retired cook for Colonel's Inn, Milton. Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Edwards and Betty Setliff, both of Culloden, and Kathryn Barnett of Liberty. Funeral Tuesday, October 31st, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; burial in Culloden Cemetery.

A. Darrell Good
A. Darrell Good, 72, of Hurricane, formerly of Dunbar, died Oct. 26, 2000, at home after a short illness. He was retired from Union Carbide, Institute. He was a member of Dunbar First Baptist Church and Sleepy Hollow Golf Club and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving: daughter, Kriss Godfrey of Hurricane; brothers, Delmer of Dunbar, Charles of Florida, Frank of North Carolina. Services were held Saturday, October 28, 2000 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. George R. Pauley officiating. Entombment in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Congregational Life Center, Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 2150 Mount Vernon Road, Hurricane, WV 25526.

Leonard B. Curry

He was a data technician for AT&T International Service, Pittsburgh, with 32 years' service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Communication Workers of America, Masonic Lodge 99, Scottish Rite Bodies and Beni Kedem Shrine Temple, Charleston, WV. He was born in Logan, W.Va., graduated Logan High School and was a Methodist.
Surviving: wife, Cathy Lynn Davis Cline; sons, Travis Cline of Middleport, Ohio, Casey Cline at home; mother, Mildred “Millie” Wilburn Cline of Clarksville, Tenn.; sister, Nadine Lewis of Clarskville; one grandson.
Services were held Friday, Oct. 27, 2000 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Joaquine Ooten officiating. Burial in Highland Memory Gardens, Godby, WVa., with Masonic rites by Lodge 99.
