Lyle M. Stalnaker
Lyle Michael Stalnaker, 53, of Poca died February 26, 2001, in CAMC Memorial Division after a short illness.
He was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service and a lifelong resident of Putnam and Kanawha counties. He was a member of Nitro Moose Lodge 565 and the American Legion. He was a Vietnam veteran and a Baptist.
Surviving: son, Chad E. Stalnaker of Poca; father, Ed Stalnaker of Ohio; mother, Mrs. Norma Alexander of Liberty; sisters, Lona Akers of Liberty and Linda Lopresti of Petersburg; brothers, Larry Stalnaker of Charleston and Gene Stalnaker of Beckley.
Service was held Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.

Martha H. Buck
Martha Hester Medors Buck, 80, of Buffalo died February 28, 2001, at Putnam General Hospital following a short illness.
She was born at Elmwood, Mason County, the daughter of the late Harry and Perlina Davis Medors. She was a cook for the Buffalo Senior Citizins and she was a Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Millard Dellus Buck.
Surviving: sons, Billy Joe Buck of Columbus, Ohio and Bobby Lee Buck of Buffalo; sisters, Dorothy Garrison of Marion, Ohio, Gladys Harding of Alliance, Ohio, Opal Guerry of St. Louis, Missouri, and Sarah Dudrick of Baltimore, Maryland; brother, Garnette Medors of Buffalo; sisters-in-law, Louise McCoy of Buffalo and Kathern Higginbotham of Buffalo; grandchildren, Kathy and Timothy of Columbus and Robert Millard of Buffalo; great-grandchildren, Brandon of Columbus and Shane, Shanna and Sheynne of Buffalo; special great-grandnephew, Dickie Wallace.
Service was held Saturday, March 2, 2001, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Paul Arthur officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Park.

Ricky D. Workman
Ricky Dewayne Workman, 31, of Buffalo died March 1, 2001.
He was a lifelong resident of Buffalo, a ironworker for Triangle, Inc., a member of Ironworkers Local 301, a carpenter and a Baptist.
Surviving: parents, Eugene A. and Barbara F. Workman of Buffalo; sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Tom Vaughan of Red House; brother and sister-in-law, David and Stephanie Workman of Buffalo; brother, Donnie Ray Workman of Buffalo; paternal grandfather, Oden Workman of Buffalo; niece, Jennifer Vaughan; nephew, Tommy Lee Vaughan.
Service was held Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Gatens Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Nyle Fisher and Jack Garton officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoluem, Red House.

Lola D. Akers
Lola D. Akers, 85, of Fraziers Bottom died Friday, March 2, 2001, at her residence after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and retired from McLean Trucking Co., Hurricane. She was a member of Fraziers Bottom Church of God, a member of the Women of the Church of God, and a lifelong resident of Fraziers Bottom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lem Akers, a daughter, Mildred Handley, and a son, Bobby Akers.
Surviving: daughters, Martha Moore (the late Earl) Moore of Winfield, Emma Doss (Billy Joe) Doss of Huntington; Nancy (Lesley) Wilcoxen, Linda (Kenny) Legg, Drema (Calvin) Armstead, Peggy (Jerry) Cowan, Delia “Dee Dee” Akers, all of Fraziers Bottom; sons, Paul “Dick” (Nodra) Akers, Danny (Catherine) Akers; and Calvin (Robin) Akers, all of Fraziers Bottom; adopted son, the Rev. Jerry Ranson of Hometown; sisters, Nina Gibson of Cross Lanes, Reba Combs of Illinois, and Jackie Gillispie of Fraziers Bottom; brother, Carl Williams of Tampa, Florida; 34 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Fraziers Bottom Church of God with the Rev. Jerry Ranson, the Rev. Gary Hale and the Rev. Lester Erett officiating. Burial was in Mount Union Cemetery, Pliny. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests donations to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064, with special thanks to Laura Leslie, the caregiver for Kanawha Hospice Care.

Ruby Mae Fewell
Ruby Mae Fewell, 75, of Winfield died February 18, 2001, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Winfield.
Surviving: daughter, Babette Fewell of Winfield; son, Daniel L. Fewell of Hurricane; brother, Wilbur Wysong of Florida; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Service was held Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.

Sidney M. Bird
Sidney Mack Bird, 89, of Scott Depot, formerly of Clendenin, died February 19, 2001, in Teays Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a long illness.
He was born June 19, 1911 at Welford, the son of the late Lewis Melvin and Alice Turpin Bird. He was also preceded in death by his son, Sidney Mack Bird, Jr., sisters, Lou Ramsey, Tillie Harris, Golda Bird Woodley and Gracie White, and brothers, Glenn E. Bird Sr., Steven Bird and Oscar Bird.
He was a member of Bufflick-Welford United Methodist Church, Clendenin, and was retired from Union Carbide.
Surviving: daughters, Janet L. Poff of Paragould, Arkansas, Shirley A. Rowh of Dittmer, Missouri, Karen Shumaker of Charleston, Alice L. Young of Bethesda, Maryland, and Deborah L. Bird of Cross Lanes; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside service was held Friday, February 23, 2001, in the Board family Cemetery, Clendenin, with the Rev. Arnold Husk officiating. Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin, was in charge of arrangements.

Henry W. Boggess
Henry W. Boggess, 50, of Little Tyler Mountain died Sunday, February 18, 2001, at home.
He was a 14-year resident of Little Tyler Mountain, former 10-year resident of Poca, a musician, and a former truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Edward Boggess; daughter, Jennifer Miller of Hurricane; sons, John Boggess of Cleveland, Ohio, Kenneth Boggess and Christopher Boggess, both of Cross Lanes; sisters, Becky Harding of Ripley, Suzie Ray of Haynes Branch, and Linda Kuhn of Pineville; brothers, Ricky Bowen of Charleston and Billie Bowen of Sissonville; two grandchildren, Alexandra Miller and Nikole Miller.
Service was held Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca. Burial was in Bowen Cemetery, Charleston, on Thursday.

Christian J. Spencer
Christian James Spencer, infant son of Olin James Spencer Jr. and Tracy Lee Spaulding of Hurricane was born February 19, 2001 and died February 20th.
Also surviving: grandparents, Robert J. and Cynthia Lee Browning of Hurricane, Terry Spaulding of Decota and Olin Sr. and Dorothy Spencer of Hurricane; great-grandparents, Freda Moore of Hurricane and Lorraine Spaulding of Decota. He was preceded in death by great-grandfather, Ronald Spaulding of Decota.
Graveside service was held Thursdau, February 22, 2001, at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow, with the Rev. Claude R. Miller officiating. O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, was in charge of arrangements.

Belva Perrine
Belva Fields Perrine, 77, of Hurricane died February 23, 2001 at home after a long illness.
She was a member of the Riverview Freewill Baptist Church, St. Albans, a homemaker and a 40-year resident of Hurricane.
Surviving: husband, the Rev. William V. “Dean” Perrine; daughter, Sherry Long of Hurricane; sons, Steven A. Perrine of Ravenswood, and Rick Rhodes of Columbus, Ohio; granddaughters, Traci L. Bird of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kristyn N. Long of Columbus, Ohio and Morgan C. Perrine of Ravenswood; great-granddaughter, Shara Marie Bird of Charlotte.
Service was held Monday, February 26, 2001, at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Hurricane, with the Rev. Rob Laukoter and the Rev. Richard Fields officiating. Burial was in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

James A. Powers
James A. “Jim” Powers, 68, of Scott Depot died February 22, 2001, at home after a long illness.
He was retired from Appalachian Life Insurance Company as manager of Gold Cross Burial Plan with 44 years of service. He was former president of St. Albans Little League, Babe Ruth League, a Christian and a 30-year resident of Scott Depot.
Surviving; wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Powers; son, Gary Lee of Atlanta, Georgia; daughters, Patty Baxter of Scott Depot and Anita Snow of Sissonville; five grandchildren.
Service was held Sunday, February 25, 2001, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Pastor Ben Franklin and Pastor Jeff Arthur officiating. Burial was in Teays Valley Memorial Gardens, Winfield.

Edward W. Wymer
Edward W. Wymer, 88, of Scott Depot died February 22, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington.
He was a member, deacon and past Sunday School superintendent of Providence Baptist Church, a retired millwright with Union Carbide with 33 years of service and a member of Nitro Masonic Lodge No. 170 AF & AM. He was a lifetime member of the Kanawha Valley Horseman’s Association, a member of the Winfield Riding Club and the Putnam County Foxhunters Association. He was a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Holcomb Wymer.
Surviving: daughters, Mae Lee Watson of Pt. Pleasant, Norma Hatcher, Doris Arthur and Karen Sue Wymer, all of Winfield, and Ruthann Hayzlett of Scott Depot; sons, Donald R. of Hurricane, Paul E., David C. and Gary W., all of Winfield, James O. and Ronald K., both of Scott Depot, and Richard A. of Shelby, North Carolina; sisters, Evelyn Collier of San Antonio, Texas and Edith Holt of St. Albans; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Sunday, February 25, 2001, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Robert W. Kelly and Dr. J.D. Harrah officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites by Nitro Masonic Lodge was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Memorial donations may be made to Providence Baptist Church Kitchen Building Fund, 229 Rocky Step Road, Scott Depot WV 25560.

Courtney M. Goddard
Courtney Michelle Goddard, 14 months old, of Buffalo died Thursday, February 22, 2001, at CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital, following a short illness.
Surviving: parents, Michael L. and Tina Sevy Goddard; brother, Zachary Sanford Goddard at home; maternal grandparents, Charlotte L. Sevy of Pliny and the late John D. Sevy; paternal grandmother, Alberta M. Goddard of Buffalo; aunts, Kimberly L. Cobb of Sissonville and Linda R. Kirk of Buffalo.
Service was held Sunday, February 25, 2001, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Sidney Warner officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
