William H. Morning
William H. Morning, 80, of Milton, W.Va, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Milton Funeral Home by the Rev. Bart Thompson. Interment in Rome Cemetery in Proctorville, Ohio. He was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late William A. and Ethel Meadows Morning. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 33 and a member of the Bethesda United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tina Smith Morning; and one son, William M. “Mike” Morning. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David L and Brenda Morning of Ona, WV; five grandchildren, James M. Morning, Timothy L. Morning, Diana L Davis, and Amanda and Holly Morning, and two greatgrandchildren, Jessica and Juliet Morning.

Carl E. Rimmer
Carl E. Rimmer, 92, of Ona, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 31, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Burial in the Rimmer family Cemetery, Ona. Carl was born December 1, 1908, in Putnam County, W.Va., a son of the late Fielding and Callie Bowles Rimmer. He lived at Howell’s Mill Ona, W.Va., for 90 years. He was a member of Beulah Ann Baptist Church for 70 years. He retired from the former INCO, Huntington. He was an avid farmer. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Winona Turley Rimmer; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jane McMahon and Helen Ruth and Don Elkins, all of Ona; one sister, Ruth Markin of Ona; three grandchildren, Kathy Jackson, Kevin Elkins and Karen Holley, and four great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica, Jackson, and Katelyn and Hannah Holley.

Mabel Adkins
Mabel Adkins, 90, of Huntington, widow of Antill Horace Adkins, died Saturday, June2, 2001 at her home. She was a retired seamstress for Huntington Manufacturing Co. Survivors include four daughters, Geraldine Adkins, Lulabelle Jarvis and Carolyn Sue Hodges, all of Huntington, and Donna Sheets of Brooksville, Fla; two sons, Robert Adkins of Lesage and Dennis Adkins of Apple Grove; four sisters, Ruby Blake of Ona, Lelola Bellomy of Huntington, Naomi Lear of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Edythe Hale of California; and one brother, Joe Dolen of Barboursville. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at Beard Mortuary; burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.

Gladys P. Combs
Gladys P. Combs, 84, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Sunday, June 3, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 5, 2001, by the Rev. Jerry Harrah at Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church. Entombment in White Chapel Christus Mausoleum. She was born July 10, 1916, in Logan County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Arch Martin and Maude Toler Peyton. She was a Man High School graduate and attended Morris Harvey College and Bowling Green (Ky.) College. Along with her husband, she was owner of Combs & Combs Firestone Store in Man, W.Va. A member of Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church in Barboursville, she was the loving widow of Denver “Boots” Combs, who passed away in 1993. Surviving are her daughter, Margaret Keenan of Huntington; three grandchildren and their spouses, Greg and Toni Jones of Barboursville, Stephanie Jones and Brad Carman of Marietta, Ohio, and Brian and Allison Jones of Cincinnati, Ohio; and three great-grandchildren, Hayley and Hayden Carman and Madison Jones. Donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church. Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge, was in charge of arrangements.

Floyd Overton Murrell
Floyd Overton Murrell, 79, of Milton died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Bill Davis and Minister Pete Davidson officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born September 6, 1921, in Cabell County, W.Va, a son of the late Edwin and Ethel May Ryalls Murrell. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy May Schultz Murrell. He was a retired chemical operator for Union Carbide. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, the VFW Post 9796, and the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by his wife, Grace Hinkle Murrell; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and David Carter of Jacksonville, Fla., Martha and Kevin Melting of Summerville, S.C., and Sharon and John Givler of Avon Lake, Ohio; one sister, Lennie Queen of Milton; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Janice Faye Nabors
Janice Faye Nabors, 56, died on May 17, 2001 following a short illness. She was born on February 28, 1945 in Milton, WV, to Ira and Lucy (Morris) Vititoe. She married Earnest Nabors on July 18, 1981 in Detroit and they moved to Baldwin in 1987 following retirement. She was a member of Covenant Community United Methodist Church in Baldwin. Janice was a poet, artist, and talented in crocheting.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and will be remembered fondly by her husband Earnest, children Keith Cooper of West Virginia, Ronald (Carmen) Cooper of Indianapolis, Indiana, Diane (Douglas) Allison of Pennsylvania, Jimmy (Donna) Cooper of Detroit and Kathy Antle of Manistee; 21 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; siblings, Ivan (Edith Geneva) Vititoe of Indianapolis, Edna (Clyde) Simpson of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Lewis D. (Fay) Vititoe of Baldwin, Willard (Susan) Vititoe of Indianapolis and Marjorie Vititoe of Baldwin; 2 brothers-in-law; 2 sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 19, 2001 at Covenant Community United Methodist Church in Baldwin with Pastor Nelson Hall officiating. Interment followed in Webber Township Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.

Patricia Ellen Rutherford
Patricia Ellen Rutherford, 72, of Greensboro, N.C., formerly of Huntington, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, in Guilford Health Care Center, Greensboro. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 31, 2001, Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge, with the Rev. Gary Stackpole officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. She was born July 19, 1928, in Morgantown, W.Va, a daughter of the late James A. and Gwendolyn Jones Morehead. She received a Master of Education degree from Marshall University and was a retired teacher of gifted students from Cammack Middle School. She was a member of Pea Ridge United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.H. Rutherford in 1997. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa and Randall Bryan of Burlington, N.C.; two sisters, June Butcher of Waynesboro, Va., and Shirley Lewis of Bryan, Texas; and one brother, James Morehead of Maryland.

Charles H. “Papaw” Klemm
Charles H. “Papaw” Klemm, 77, of Milton entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, by the Rev. Lyle McMicken. A procession of fire trucks followed him atop M.F.D. Engine 407 to his final resting place in Forest Memorial Park, Milton, where full military rites were conducted. Pallbearers were his fellow firemen Timmy Chastain, Chris Ball, Artie McKinney, Derek Ball, Derrick Ray, Paul Ashworth, Kevin Conner and Marvin Goodpaster. Honorary pallbearers were officers and members of the Milton Fire Department. He was born February 1, 1924, in York, Pa., a son of the late John and Doris Reem Klemm. He was preceded in death by one brother and six sisters. He was a retired U.S. Navy Petty Officer and retired from Blenko Glass, Milton. He was an active member of the Milton Fire Department since 1983, where he was “Papaw”.to all members and their families, who will greatly miss him, along with a host of close friends. He was a member of the American Legion Post 139 and VFW. He is survived by two sisters, and a brother-in-law, Janet and Kenneth Emley of York, Pa., and Mary Ellen Stevens of Street, Md.

Opal L. Rider
Opal L. Rider, 90, of Lesage, widow of Herbert Rider, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 1, 2001, at Chapman’s Mortuary with the Rev. Jerry Ryder officiating. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. She was born December 3, 1910, in Mason County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Oscar and Rheta Morris Chapman. She is also preceded in death by a grandson, Timmy Ryder; a great-grandson, Joseph Ryder and four brothers, Locie Chapman, Linville Chapman, Howard Chapman and Clifford Chapman. She was a homemaker and member of Z-Warner United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Inez and Ervie Jenkins of Houston, Texas; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Joyce Ryder, Bobby T. and Othella “Pug” Ryder and Harold Lee and Jennifer Rider, all of Lesage, W.Va.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jean and Frank Brotherton of Huntington, and Velma Lewis of Ona; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Rosie Chapman and Richard and Peggy Chapman all of Ona; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Floyd Overton Murrell
Floyd Overton Murrell, 79, of Milton, husband of Grace Murrell, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, in St Mary’s Hospital. He was a retired chemical operator from Union Carbide. Also surviving are three daughters, Nancy Carter of Jacksonville, Fla., Martha Melling of Summerville, S.C., and Sharon Givler of Avon Lake, Ohio, and one sister, Lennie Queen of Milton. Funeral.services were held Saturday, June 2, 2001 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton.

Grace Adkins
Grace Adkins, 94, of Ona, W.Va., formerly of Kenova, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at the Reger Funeral Chapel, by Rev. Joe Dolen. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va. She was born June 26,1906, in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Lee and Nona Bias Martin. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Talmer Adkins; a son, Cletis Lee Adkins; a daughter-in-law, Carla Adkins; two brothers, Willie and Carnie Martin; and a sister, Mae Bartram. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Edward O’Neal and Judy Adkins of Kenova; two daughters and sons-in-law, Recie Marie and Fred Erwin of Ona, with whom she made her home, and Loretta Faye and Bill Earl of Kenova; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Adkins of Franklin, Tenn; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; and a sister, Molly Morrison of Huntington.

Evelyn V. Plott
Evelyn V. Plott, 87, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Barboursville, died Friday, May 25, 2001. She was a retired bookkeeper. Survivors include one daughter, Jenny Adkins of Orlando; and one sister, Pauline Kitchen of Virginia. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at Honaker Funeral Home, Logan; burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill.

Mahala Grove Flaugher
Mahala Grove Flaugher, 81, of Barboursville, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Chateau Grove Personal Care Home. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Dr. Jerry Warren. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. She was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Barboursville, a daughter of the late Herman Franklin and Eva Dora Walton Grove. She was an associate member of the Women’s Club of Barboursville, a former member of Ladies Golf Association, Orchard Hills, and attended Fellowship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Major Earl Flaugher; four sisters, Vera Risher, Margaret Dawson, Marie Thompson and Julia Hoepf; and four brothers, Walton Grove, Merle Grove, Herman Grove and Gene Tunney Grove. She is survived by one sister, Loris Jefferson, and two sisters-in-law, Joan Grove and Dorothy Grove, all of Barboursville; one brother-in-law, Bernard Hoepf of Huntington and several nieces and nephews.

Marie “Sarah Bell” Lucas
Marie “Sarah Bell” Lucas, 70, of Salt Rock, went home to be with the Lord May 26, 2001 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at the Lincoln Church of God, by Pastor Lonnie Wilson. Burial in Porter Cemetery. She was born on Dec. 6, 1930, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Luther and Lockie Cook Sloan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Joseph Lucas. She was a member of the Lincoln Church of God, West Hamlin. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Tom Vanco of Bidwell, Ohio and Shelia and Waldo Busamonte of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Sharon Lucas of Milton and Rev. Jody and Lesley Lucas, of Salt Rock; five sisters, Thelma Lucas, Manna Colegrove, Martha Hereford, Avis McClellen and Frances Ann Bowers; six brothers, Henry Sloan, James Slan, Austin Sloan, Luther Sloan Jr., John Sloan and Randy Sloan; five sisters-in-law, Glenna Lucas, Vesta Coleman, Violet Gue, Evelyn Buckley and Kathryn Beckett; four brothers-in-law, Clovis Lucas, Edward Lucas, Gail Lucas and Rev. Mike Lucas; nnin grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Lois Jean Myers
Lois Jean Myers, 72, of Lesage, WV, passed away Friday, May 25, 2001, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington with the Rev. Jim Franklin and the Rev. Robert K. Bondurant officiating. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park. She was born December 4, 1928, in Huntington a daughter of the late Robert Everette and Thelma Evelyn Frye Clutts. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Bowles and a brother, Standard Clutts. She was a former caregiver, having sat with many elderly people, a member of Church in the Valley, and a member of the PEO organization. Survivors include her longtime companion, Jimmy Wintz of Lesage; a daughter-in-law, David Scott and Diana Myers of Kenova; a daughter and son-in-law, Tamara Ann Myers White and Charles White of Lesage; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Roberta and Hays Webb of Fairmont, W.Va, and Adelle Morrison and the late Web Morrison of Huntington; a grandson, David Scott Myers Jr.; a step-grandson, Keith White; special friends, Betty Griffith and Brenda Ruble; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Raymond Edgar “Pop” Kingery
Raymond Edgar “Pop” Kingery, 82, of Lesage, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 26, 2001. He was a lifetime farmer, retired from C & O Railroad and was the son of the late Bert and Ona Mae Templeton Kingery. Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 28, 2001 at Barker Ridge United Baptist Church, Ona, with Pastor James Dailey officiating. Burial in Barker Ridge Cemetery. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Sophia Kingery; one great-granddaughter, Justina Marie Smith; and five brothers, Harold, Henry, Everett, Woodrow and Corbett Kingery. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Gladys Bell (Stevens) Kingery; one son, Raymond Lee Kingery; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Donna Kingery at home, Dotsie (Jake) and Jerry Thompson, Dreama and Forrest Bailey, all of Lesage, and Dottie and Jim Scarberry of Ona; one sister, Gracie Blake of South Point, Ohio; one half sister, Maxine Luddon of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends, including two very special friends, Scott Enix of Kenova and Ruth Ann Caldwell of Lesage. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Annabelle Lee Turner
Annabelle Lee Turner, 81, of Barboursville, died May 25, 2001 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born March 17, 1920 in Huntington, a daughter of the late Dayton and Lucretia Barnette Casto. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest E. Turner; a son, Steven C. Turner; one sister, Mavis Metz; and two brothers, Dayton and Dale Casto. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ernie and Sandy Turner of Huntington; and one daughter and son-in-law, Donna Lee and Michael Cross of Barboursville. Annabelle loved her grandchildren, they include Ernie Turner and his wife, Christy, Jacob Cross, Ann Turner Frederick, Tim Turner, Chris Yochum and Jason Yochum; Great-grandchildren include Corey Turner and Steven Turner. She is also survived by one brother, Keith Casto of Huntington; and two sisters, Betty Branham and Margaret Burks, both of Columbus, Ohio. She will be missed by her friends at Barboursville First United Methodist Church and Barboursville Senior Exercise Class. Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 28, 2001 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Monty Brown. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington.

Mina Setliff Young
Mina Setliff Young, 82, of Hurricane, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2001, in Putnam General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 28, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom. Mina was born May 13, 1919 in Fraziers Bottom, W.Va., a daughter of the late James I. and Rosetta Nida Setliff. She was also preceded in death by her twin brother, Manuel Setliff; brother, Gilbert Setliff; four sisters, Mary Hodge, Garnet Romine, Essie Faulkner and Allie Doss. She was a homemaker and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Ray Young; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Gale Grant of Hurricane and Johnny and Carol Grant of Logan, Ohio; two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Donald Hodges of Winfield and Peggy and Lloyd Hinkle of Obetz, Ohio; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Doris Young of Hurricane, and Jack and Barbara Young of Milton; four stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Geraldine and Kledith Chapman, Betty and Glenn Gibson, and Jean and Jack Clark, all of Hurricane, and Lovetta “Lovey” and Henry Burnett of Bluffington, S.C.; three sisters, Lottie Coiner of Culloden and Vada Wray and Vonda Hinkle, both of Lesage; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren.
