Clyde E. Freeman
Clyde E. Freeman, 93, of Hurricane died July 3, 2001, at Templeton Personal Care Home, Culloden, after a long illness.
Mr. Freeman was a lifelong resident of Putnam County. He was retired from Union Carbide in 1968 and a retired farmer. He was cared for by his son, Michael, for the last seven years.
Surviving: sons, Robert and Dorel Freeman, both of Teays Valley, and Michael S. Freeman Sr., of Hurricane; daughters, Phillis Rose of Taylor, Michigan and Doris White of Teays Valley; brothers, Carl Freeman of Teays Valley and Eulis Freeman of Hurricane; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Friday, July 6, 2001, at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Hurricane. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.

Delmar F. Finley
Delmar Forrest “Buddy” Finley, 77, of Hurricane died July 5, 2001, at his residence.
He was born April 22, 1924 in Cabell County, a son of the late George W. and Clara manning Finley. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Finley, who died on Guam during World War II; and his great-grandson, Matthew Lambert. He attended Milton High School before enlisting in the Navy, and was a veteran of World War II on the U.S. Prince William aircraft carrier. He was a 40 year employee of Union Carbide, serving as an operator, foreman and general supervisor. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9697. His hobbies were construction, farming and running his sawmill.
Surviving: his wife of 52 years, Audra Cleota Holley Finley; sons, Forest Brent (Brenda) Finley of Milton and George Curtis (Kelli) Finley of Hurricane; daughter, Joan Jarvis (John Halstead) of Midland, Michigan; brothers, Carl and Kermit Finley, both of Milton; sisters, Kathleen Sergent of Hurricane, Opal Kirtley, Violet Harshbarger and Marietta Grass, all of Milton; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; special cousin, Everette “Shorty” Finley of Milton; many special friends and relatives.
Service was held Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Huntington. Memorial donations may be sent to First Baptist Church, Main Street, Hurricane WV 25526; or to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Bernard L. Miller
Bernard L. Miller, 86, of Hurricane died July 4, 2001, after a short illness.
He was the retired owner of Miller Display Service in Charleston and was a locally known artist.
Surviving: sons, Bruce Miller of San Diego, California and Dean Miller of Hurricane; daughter, Andrea Zastrow of Washington Court House, Ohio; grandson Soren Whiting of Washington Court House.
There was no service. Mr. Miller donated his body to the Marshall University Human Gift Registry.

Timothy A. Terry
Timothy Allen Terry, 35, of Scott Depot died July 1, 2001, at his residence.
He was born April 25, 1966 in West Virginia, the youngest of 10 children.
Surviving: wife, Gina Dillow Terry; mother, Phyllis Terry of Milton; sister, Kimberley Berry of South Charleston; nieces, Tabitha, Brittney and Tiffany.
Service was held Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, with Charlie Humphreys officiating. Interment was in Graceland Memorial Park.

Matt Trail
Matt Trail, 20, of Hurruicane died of a short illness in Dallas, Texas.
He was a graduate of Hurricane High School.
Surviving: father, Jerry Trail of Hurricane; mother, Kim Smith of Hurricane; sisters, Jessie Trail and Jammie Trail, both of Cross Lanes and Leah Smith of Hurricane; grandparents, John and Barbara Trail of Ormand Beach, Florida, Bruce and Leann Hunt of Hurricane; great-grandparents, Cliff and Maxine Hunt of Milton.
Service was held Monday, July 9, 2001, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Mr. Jim McGehee officiating. The body was cremeated.

Delmar Forrest “Buddy” Finley
Delmar Forrest “Buddy” Finley, 77, of Hurricane, W.Va., died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with the Rev. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial in Oaklawn Cemetery, Huntington. He was born April 22, 1924, in Cabell County, W.Va., a son of the late George W. and Clara Manning Finley. Lena Frances DeBord Jones
Lena Frances DeBord Jones, 89, of Barboursville, wife of Lymon B. Jones, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a homemaker. Also surviving are one foster son, Robert Garza of Huntington; and three nieces, Opal Wilson of Welch, Olive Riddle of Morehead, Ky., and Faye Strunk of Cincinnati. Funeral services were held Friday, July 6, 2001 at Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge: burial in White Chapel Memorial Garden, Barboursville.

Gary E. Safford
Gary E. Safford, 60, of Barboursville, passed away July 4, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 7, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville by the Rev. Richard Black. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park. He was born December 27, 1940, in Huntington, a son of Sylvia Plybon Safford Chapman of Barboursville and the late Ernest Safford. He is also survived by one daughter, Stacy Ellis of Huntington; and one grandson, Dylan Safford.

Marian Elizabeth Steen
Marian Elizabeth Steen, 76, of Barboursville, passed away July 5, 2001, at home. Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 6, 2001, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Minister Ron Ross and Minister David Gladwell. Graveside services were conducted Friday, July 6, 2001, at Riverview Cemetery, Williamstown, W.Va. She was born January 12, 1925, in Martinsburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Karl and Virginia Kilmer Schneider. She was a member of the Barboursville Church of Christ and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Steen. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jim Verbeck of Virginia Beach, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Linda Steen of Barboursville; grandchildren, David Allen Bledsoe and his wife Sharon, Mark Todd Bledsoe and his wife Tabatha, Larry Scott Bledsoe and his wife Tina, Kristi Dawn Fetty and her husband Bill, and Tracy Ann Steen; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Frances Kellel Staker
Frances Kellel Staker, 77, of Barboursville, W.Va., formerly of Kermit, W.Va., died Wednesday, July 4, 2001. She was born on November 20, 1923, in Williamson, W.Va, the daughter of the late Frank Kellel Sr. and Bertha McCoy Kellel. She was a graduate of Williamson High School, and attended Marshall University and the University of Cincinnati. She served as an executive Secretary and an administrative assistant at Crystal Block Coal Company in Rawl, WV., for several years. She was a loving wife, mother, and a dedicated and award winning homemaker. She had been active in the First Baptist Church of Kermit the Williamson Area Woman’s Club, the Kermit Grade School Parents and Teachers Association, the Kermit High School Band Boosters and countless other church, community and school organizations and activities. She was preceded in death by her husband, Attorney Zane Grey Staker. She is survived by two sons, Lant R. Staker of Barboursville and Frederick G. Staker III of Huntington; and one brother, Col. Frank Kellel Jr., U.S. Army retired, of San Antonio, Texas. The Family has requested no visitation and that no flowers be sent. A graveside memorial service was held Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va. Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky., was in charge of arrangements.
Dollie D. Belcher
Dollie D. Belcher, 74, of Huntington died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Henson Mortuary, with the Rev. Sam Morris officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born January 8, 1927, in Kanawha County, W.Va, daughter of the late Lawrence F. and Gertrude Elizabeth Elswick Huddleston. She was a supervisor at Cabell Huntington Hospital and a member of Pea Ridge United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Belcher in 1968. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Sharon Belcher of Spring Mills, Pa., and Dan and Joan Belcher of Ruckersville, Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Jim Harshbarger of Milton; three sisters, Virginia Hayes of Rand, W.Va., Mae Barnett of Shyewsbury, W.Va., and Faye Dillard of Pond Gap, W.Va.; three brothers, Clyde Huddleston of Sanford, N.C., Virgil Huddleston of Pond Gap, W.Va., and Lester Huddleston, Craigsville, W.Va.; and eight grandchildren, Kara and Kyle Harshbarger, Emily and Aaron Belcher, and Michelle, Jessica, Tara and Joshua Belcher.

Ella Laura Yates Stevens
Ella Laura Yates Stevens, 101, of Huntington, whose life spanned three centuries, passed away Friday, June 29, 2001, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, by the Rev. Ed Hood. Interment in Woodmere Memorial Park. Ella was born October 9, 1899, in Milton W.Va, a daughter of the late Jacob R. and Emma White Yates. Ella was a member of the Lower Creek Methodist Church, a homemaker and a great cook who would feed anyone who came to the door. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil C. Stevens; one daughter, Emma Jean Stevens; one great-great-grandchild, Steven J. Cazad; and 12 brothers and sisters. She is survived by a daughter, Palmoneda Stevens Cazad Curtis of Huntington; two grandchildren, John S. Cazad and his wife, Patricia A., of Huntington and Toni Curtis-Brown and her husband, Charles Timothy “Tim”, of Huntington; two great-grandchildren, James B. Cazad and his wife, Leigh Ann of Huntington and Jason M. Cazad and his wife, Meka K., of Huntington; two great-great-grandchildren, Carleigh and Chloe Cazad of Huntington; and one brother, Creath Revere Yates of Milton.

Betty Naomi Lilly
Betty Naomi Lilly, 76, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 7, 2001, at her residence. Memorial service was conducted Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. She was born August 13, 1924, in Hamlin, W.Va, a daughter of the late Jessie and Ardelia Lake Moore. She was a bookkeeper and office manager for a commercial contractor. She was a member of Trinity Church of God, Huntington. She is survived by her loving husband, Calvin C. Lilly; one son and daughter-in-law, David G. and Caren Lilly of Buckhannon, WV; one sister, Wynonia Johnston of San Diego, Calif.; one granddaughter, Heather and Phillip Tallman; and two grandchildren, Cori and Jesse Tallman.

James Aubrey Halley
James Aubrey Halley, 70, of Barboursville died Thursday, July 5, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Beard Mortuary with Dr. Tim Yates and Pastor Brian Wray officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born March 17, 1931 in Barboursville, a son of the late James Waldo and Edith Morris Halley. Mr. Halley was retired from the Teamsters Union Local 505. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #13 AF&AM of Barboursville, whose members conducted graveside rites. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Lawhon Wall and Norma Hensley. Survivors include his wife, Linda Webb Halley; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Dock Bennett Jr. of Huntington; one son, Doug Harvey of Barboursville; and four grandchildren, Chris Browning, Alaina, Autumn and Cara Harvey.

“Nan” Mrs. Olgananette Daniels
“Nan” Mrs. Olgananette Daniels, 51, of Lesage, passed away Friday, July 6, 2001, in Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington. She was born May 31, 1951 in Huntington, W.Va., the daughter of Donald and Faye Farley Stewart of Huntington. She was church secretary at the Huntington First Church of the Nazarene and a graduate of Mt. Vernon Nazarene College. She is survived by her husband, Lynn Daniels of Lesage; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kelley Daniels of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Karen Stone and Deborah and James Forth, all of Huntington; two brothers, Rex Stewart of Cincinnati, Ohio, and David Stewart of Huntington. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at the Huntington First Church bf the Nazarene. Interment at White Chapel Memorial Burial Park, Barboursville. Joshua Taylor Doniff, 4-month-old son of Jason and Melissa Doniff of Hurricane, died June 24, 2001.
Service was held Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Koontz Funeral Home, Hamlin. Burial was in Bays Cemetery, Hamlin.

Amy Pat Romano
Amy Pat Romano, 40, of Hurricane died June 27, 2001, at home.
She was a 30 year resident of Hurricane and an after School Coordinator with Tri-County YMCA. She was a member of The Catholic Church of Ascension, Hurricane.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Sarah Beth Romano.
Surviving: mother, Petie Romano of Hurricane; father Colonel Pat Romano of Cross Lanes; sister, Beth Romano of Hilton Head, South Carolina; brother, Christopher Romano of Catletsburg, Kentucky.
Memorial Mass will be Friday, June 29, 2001, at The Catholic Church of Ascension with the Rev. Father Neil R., Buchlein officiating. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Curtis Dean Wilmoth
Curtis Dean Wilmoth, 36, of St. Albans, formerly of Buffalo, died June 22, 2001 from injuries received in an auto accident.
He was an auto mechanic with Safe-Tech Auto in Nitro.
Surviving: daughter, Machael Leigh Wilmoth of Buffalo; parents, Bill and Carole Wilmoth of Texas; sister, Lori Byington of Texas; brother, Jeff Wilmoth with the USAF in Hawaii; one niece and one nephew.
A memorial service was held Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Robinson’s Church, St. Albans, with the Rev. Herk McGraw presiding. Burial was in Texas.

Charles Albert Jarrell
Charles Albert Jarrell, 67, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2001, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 29, 2001 at Heck Funeral Home Milton with the Rev. Charles Gibson officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born April 29, 1934, a son of Mary F. Jarrell of Hurricane and the late Mackie Jarrell. He was also preceded in his death by one brother, Bill Jarrell and one sister, Virginia Jacks. He was a retired parts clerk from Chemical Leaman Tank Lines, Institute. He was also a Marine and Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lou Jarrell; two daughters and one son-in-law, Denita Jarrell of Milton and Deanna and Glen Myers of Milton; seven brothers and sisters, Max Jarrell of Stone Mountain, Ga., Willard Jarrell of Lorain, Ohio, Dillard Jarrell of Hurricane, Pauline Nicholas of Chattanooga, Tenn., Linda Tester of Parma, Ohio, Elmer Jarrell of Ocala, Fla., and Kenny Jarrell of Ocala, Fla.; four grandchildren, Tia Rae Jarrell, Tyler Colby Jarrell, Emily Ranson and Cody Hogsett; one great-grandson, Trey Michael Jarrell.

Roy Raymond Holley
Roy Raymond Holley, 53, of Milton passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 29, 2001, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Don Reynolds officiating. Burial in Staten Chapel, Milton. He served his country faithfully with the 173D Airborne Brigade in Vietnam. He was born November 10, 1947, in Cabell County, W.Va., a son of Bertha Mae Chapman Holley of Milton, and the late Roy Mason Holley. He is also survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie Lynn and Michael White of Scott Depot and Tonya Lea and Dexter Stewart of Poca; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Delida and George Baisey of Gastonia, N.C., and Karen K. and William Holley of Glenwood; one brother, Dale G. Holley of Ona; one granson, Brandon Michael White; six nieces; one nephew; three great-nieces; and two great-nephews.
Bertha Mabel Wolfe
Bertha Mabel Wolfe, 94, of Huntington died Saturday, June 23, 2001, in Sunbridge of Putnam County. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Henson Mortuary, with Kim Wolfe officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born January 31, 1907, in Princeton, W.Va., daughter of the late Charles E. and Mary Elizabeth Glendy Austin. She was a hotel housekeeper and a member of Mount Union United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Wolfe in 1992, and daughter Marian Lou Johnson on December 3, 2000. Survivors include one son-in-law, Elwyn Johnson of Huntington; one granddaughter and spouse, Lynn and Jeff Woodard of Bothell Wash.; grandsons and spouses, Mike and Jan Johnson of Riverton, Utah, Steve and Connie Johnson of Highland, Utah, Neal and Shirley Johnson of Alpine, Utah, and Ty and Pam Johnson of Collegeville, Pa.; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Special thanks to the staff of Sunbridge Health Center, Hurricane.

William L. Adkins
Funeral services for William L. Adkins, 85, of Rosepine, La., were held June 26, 2001 at the Providence Baptist church with the Rev. Charles Best officiating, and burial was in the Providence Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home, DeRidder, La.
Mr. Adkins died Saturday, June 23, 2001, in the Beauregard Memorial Hospital, DeRidder, La. He was a native of Lang, WV, and lived most of his life in West Virginia. He moved to Rosepine, La., in 1995. He had been employed as a meat cutter. He attended the Providence Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Macil Adkins of Rosepine, La.; son, James William Adkins of Pekin, Ind.; daughters, Mary Katherine James of Rosepine, Sharon Lee Crouch of Lynchburg, Va.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
