Jack McGinnis
Jack McGinnis, 73, of Huntington passed away Friday, February 8, 2002. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Dr Ed Grant and Rev. Ralph Sager. Burial in White Chapel Memorial. Gardens. He was born April 15, 1928, in Dickson. W.Va., a son of the late Clarence C. and Irene Irene McGinnis. He was a member of the Florence Memorial Methodist Church, Dickson, and also attended Steele Memorial United Methodist Church. He was President of Huntington Land Company, a Past Master and Secretary of Minerva Lodge #13, A.F. & A.M., Barboursville, a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict and in Germany, and a past member of the Board of Directors of the Twentieth Street Bank. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jack McGinnis II. He is survived by his wife, Betty Brumfield McGinnis; one daughter and son-in-law, Sunnygail and Lyle Stowers of Barboursville; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and William A. Beckett of Huntington; three grandchildren, Jack McGinnis III, Jenny Lynn Keaton and Tyler Grant Stowers, one greatgrandchild, Alexander St. Clair McGinnis; two stepgrandchildren, Stephanie and Sheena Stowers; a special niece, Gina Crews; and several nieces and nephews. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.. Masonic graveside services were conducted by the Minerva Lodge #13, A.F. & A.M

Kelley William Bailey
Kelley William Bailey, 84, of Lesage passed away Thursday, February 7, 2002 in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 10, 2002 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Rev. Bill Meeks officiating. Kelley was born January 20, 1918 in Cabell Co., WV a son of the late Edward E. and Gracie Singer Bailey. He was also preceded in death by a dear friend, Henry Spurlock. He was a former employee with Georgetown Gallery, Huntington. He is survived by his cousin and caregiver, Phyllis Clagg of Lesage; two special friends, Roger Spurlock and Chauncey Henry.

Charles E. Hesson, Sr.
Charles E. Hesson Sr., 89, of Barboursville, W.Va., died Wednesday, February 6, 2002, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, February 8, 2002, at Henson Mortuary by Pastor Paul Meadows. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born April 27, 1912, in Lincoln County, W.Va., son of the late George and Minnie Victoria Hollandsworth Hesson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Dunfee Hesson in 1995. He was an accountant for Carroll Equipment Co., and a member of Bates Memorial Presbyterian Church. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles E. and Gay Hesson of Dickinson, Texas, Roger A. and Bernice Hesson of Barboursville and Gregory K. and Debra Hesson of Ona; one brother, Joe Hesson of Sieverville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Cindy Forman, Scott Hesson, Jeff Hesson, Debbie Parkinson, Stacy Hesson and J. Chad and Leeann Hesson; and seven great-grandchildren. Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge, was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia H. McCallister Williams
Virginia H. McCallister Williams, 85, of Milton, W.Va., passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at CareHaven of Teays Valley. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Feb. 6, 20O2, at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by the Rev. George Surgeon. Burial in Enon Cemetery. She was born Aug. 19, 1916, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Elijah and Fannie Shank McCallister. She was a member of the First Church of God, Hurricane. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Loren J. Williams. She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Wood of Loudon, Tenn., and Arlene Grant of Tampa, Fla., one son, David L. Williams of Hurricane, W.Va.; one brother, Woodrow McCallister of Arlington, Ind.; two sisters, Helen Crawley of Jefferson, Texas, and Fredrica Dickerson of Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

J. John Brezinski
J. John Brezinski, 75, of Hurricane, formerly of St. Albans, died January 27, 2002, after a short illness.
He was retired from Union Carbide Tech Center. He was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and choir, St. Albans, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic War Veterans and SERRA. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a large supporter of the St. Albans, Library, the St. Albans Little Theater, Teays Valley Club and the American Chemical Society.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Ray, Steve and Bill.
Surviving: wife of 52 years, Marian E. Bower Brezinski of Hurricane; daughters, Mary A. Brezinski of Huntinton and Sally A. Shawler of Hurricane; sons, William “Bill” Brezinski of Athens, and Lawrence “Larry” Brezinski of Bloomington, Minnesota; nine grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, January 30, 2002, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Patrick M. McDonough officiating. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Scott Depot. Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests donations to St. Francis Catholic School, 1023 Sixth Avenue, St. Albans WV 25177.

Martha Lloyd Britton
Martha Lloyd Britton, 93, of Poca died January 28, 2002, in Putnam General Hospital.
She was a retired Poca postmaster with 33 years of service and a member of Poca United Methodist Church, where she was the former organist and pianist for 63 years.
Surviving: husband, John W. Britton; daughters, Mary Lynn Casto and Rita B. Bailey and her husband, Lee V., all of Poca; sisters, Edith Turnbull of Poca and Virginia Agee of Nitro; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service was held Wednesday, January 30, 2002, at Poca United Methosit Church. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Russell E. Edgell Jr.
Russell E. Edgell Jr., 71, of Liberty died January 28, 2002, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, after a long illness.
He was a retired self-employed carpenter.
Surviving: wife, Jean Edgell; sons, Russell of Dunbar, Clarence of Tampa, Florida, Timothy of Liberty, Robert and Russell James, both of Clarksburg, and Brian of Liberty; daughters, Sarah Pancake of Cross Lanes, Karen Lilly of South Dakota, Judith King and Kelly Helm, both of Liberty, Lisa Drainer of Clarksburg, and Dustie Edgell of Liberty; brother, Coda Edgell of Cross Lanes; sisters, Margie Casto of Buffalo and Barbara Layne of Cross Lanes; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Thursday, January 31, 2002, at Barnett Chapel Cemetery, Liberty, with the Rev. Juanita Eads officiating. Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, was in charge of arrangements.

Edna Irene Hatfield
Edna Irene Hatfield, 71, of Salt Rock W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 2, 2002, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 5, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville by Rev. Russell “Buck” Adkins and Rev. Ray Vance. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. She was born December 19, 1930, in Turkey Creek a daughter of the late Ezra and Ruth Vance Bird. She was a member of Madison United Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Rollie Hatfield. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Beverly A. and Darrell Wooten of Salt Rock and Lola Lowe of Wooster, Ohio; two sons, Phillip Hatfield of Grayson, Ky, and Joseph Hatfield of Centreville, Va.; three sisters, Genevieve Tuttle of Charleston and Jean Hughes and Dora Walker, both of Culloden; one brother, Lloyd Bird of Florida; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Grandsons were pallbearers.

David Lee Patton
David Lee Patton, 33, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 31, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 3, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Pastor Kevin Shull officiating. Burial in Yeager Cemetery, Branchland, W.Va. David was born December 14, 1968. in South Charleston, W.Va., a son of James R. and Genevieve Plumley Patton of South Charleston, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his sister, Freda Gay Patton; maternal grandfather, Donald Plumley; paternal grandparents, James C. and Mabel Patton; and his father-in-law, Bailey Fritz Jr. David was a driver for the city of South Charleston. He was a member of Cooper Independent Church, Milton. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife, Christina Fritz Patton; son, Brandon Lee Patton of Orlando, Fla.; maternal grandmother, Virginia Plumley of South Charleston; mother-in-law, Linda Fritz of Marianna, WV.; two brothers and one sister, Timothy J. Patton of Barboursville, Teresa and Jim High of Charleston and James Jr. and Mary Ann Patton of South Charleston; and a host of family and friends.

Gracie Mae Kingery Blake
Gracie Mae Kingery Blake, 90, of South Point, Ohio, born March 21, 1911, went home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2002, at the home of her daughter Elma Lee Spence. Gracie was the daughter of the late Bert and Ona Mae Templeton Kingery and the wife of the late Haze Blake. Gracie was the mother of seven children, also preceded in death by two sons, Raymond Dale and Paul Frederick Blake, and one daughter, Pauline Blake. Funeral services were held Monday, February 4, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home with Pastor Jamie Jefferson officiating; burial in Barker Ridge Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elma Lee (Paul Edd) Spence and Beatrice Ann (Donald) Cooper; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Herman (Phyllis) Blake and James Russell (Barbara) Blake; eight grandchildren, Warren Spence, Angela Harshbarger, Beverly Smith, Paige Mallory, Lori Dingess, Kevin Blake, Eric Cooper and Tina Carter; fifteen great-grandchildren, Misty Carson, Shane Harshbarger, Michelle Bailey, Toshia Stowers, Jeremy Spence Rusty Dingess, Melissa Smith, Dustin Dingess, Holley Smith Kecha Blake, Norman Paul Spence, Grace Carter, Zachary Cooper, Tyler Cooper and Blake Carter; one great-great-granddaughter, Cassie Carson; and a host of family and friends.

Norman Ray Enochs
Norman Ray Enochs, 58, of Salt Rock went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 30, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 2, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Bob Bondurant, the Rev. David Cardwell and Dr. Howard Aulick. Burial in Saunders Cemetery, Ranger. He was born May 1, 1943, in Lincoln County, a son of the late Golden and Louisa Adkins Enochs. He was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Gloryway Baptist Church and was on the Board of Directors of Cabell-Lincoln Work Camp Christian Organization. He is survived by his wife, Cloteal Baylous Enochs; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Gail Enochs of Huntington, Stephen and Monika Johannesen of Hendersonvillle, Tenn., and Norman and Krista McCoy of Hazel Park, Mich.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Colleen Papke of Cypress, Texas and LyDonna and Floyd Nohelty of Brandenburg, Ky; two sisters, Velva Warner of Charleston and Flossie Triplett of Branchland; six brothers, Don Enochs of Grand River, Ky., Willis Enoch of Knox, Ind., Herman Enochs of Lake Station, Ind., Wandell Enochs of Benton, Ky., W. Dale Enochs of Florida and Randy Enochs of Milton; three granddaughters. Jessica Papke, Erin and Ariel McCoy; seven grandsons Mason, Lane and Jace Johannesen, Cody Hammond, Kyle Papke, J.R. and Christopher McCoy; many beloved nieces and nephews, and a large work camp family.

David Christopher Boyd Harless
David Christopher Boyd Harless, 34, of Vinton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2002, at home. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 2, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Carlos Gibson. Burial in Harless Cemetery. He was born August 28, 1967, in Huntington, a son of Mary Turley Rausch of Vinton, Ohio, and the late Talmadge Harless. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 71, Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Mae Gue and one brother, James Paul Harless. He is survived by two sisters, Beverly Miller of Kitts Hill, Ohio, and Marsha Robb of Albany, Ohio; four brothers, Timmy, Roger, Jerry and Bobby all of Vinton; 28 nieces and nephews; a very special friend, Betty Struna, and special friends Jeff and Jim Sowards.

Dorothy I. Gue
Dorothy I. Gue, 75, of Branchland, W.Va, passed away January 30, 2002, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 2, 2002 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Lonnie Wilson and the Rev. Jody Lucas. Special music was provided by Leslie Lucas. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. She was born June 25, 1926, in Logan County, a daughter of the late Canie Aldridge and Iva May Miller Adkins. She is survived by her husband, Hurston Gue; one daughter and son-in-law, Drema Gue and Calvin Freeman of Ranger, W.Va.; two stepdaughters and one son-in-law, Trisha Gue and Roger Galloway and Marlene Gue, all of Salt Rock; one brother and sister-in-law, David P. and Opal Aldridge of Ranger, WV; one grandson, Kevin Freeman; two stepgrandsons, Robert and John Galloway; one stepgranddaughter, Leigh-Anne Stover; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and her stepfather, Jinks Adkins of Ranger.

Virginia “Granny” Shipe Black
Virginia “Granny” Shipe Black, 81, of Huntington, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Monday, January 28, 2002. She was born December 13, 1920, to the late James and Susie Wells Shipe. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Chester and Jim Shipe, Louise Hensley, Emmac McMinian and a special son-in-law, Gene Schofield. She leaves behind her husband of 63 years, Cecil Black along with three daughters, Mary Sue Black of Proctorville, Ohio, Barbara Finley and her special caregiver and daughter, Betsy Schofield, both of Huntington. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Danny Black of Jacksonville, Fla., Jesse Mannon and his fiancee Retha and her daughter Kayla of Morgantown, WV, Angelia Jo and Phil Cook of Huntington and LeAnna and Charles Scholfield. She leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Amanda and Nicholas McQuaid of Jackson, Ohio, Joseph Cook, Phillip Curtis Cook, Faith Cook, Jeremy and Jamie Schofield, all of Huntington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Martha Peck, Gene and Minnie Black and Virginia and Frank Dilley; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece and her husband, Kathy and Roger Ross. She will be missed by her friends at Living Water Free Methodist Church. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Todd Gress, Hospice of Huntington and all the kind nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 31, 2002, at Beard Mortuary with the Rev. Brian Hayton officiating. Entombment in Woodmere Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the following: American Cancer Society, Leukemia Society, Living Water Free Methodist Church or the charity of your choice. Emery Randall Berry, USAF-RET
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Emery Randal Berry, 77, were held Monday, January 21, 2002, in Chapel Hill, TN at the Eady Cemetery with James Berry officiating. Mr. Berry received full military burial honors. Mr. Berry died Friday, January 18, 2002, at his residence after a long illness.
He was born September 7, 1924, in West Virginia to the late Carl and Bertha Bailey Berry. Mr. Berry was retired from the United States Air Force with 30 years of active service achieving the rank of Master Sergeant serving in WWII, Korea, Cuban Crisis and Vietnam Conflict. Also, while serving the Air Force he was a Master on the USAF Pistol Team. He was a member of the VFW Post 4641 in Dickson, TN and had lived in Jackson, TN for three years. Mr. Berry was raised at Lesage, WV. He played football and ran track at Barboursville High School where he graduated in 1943
He is survived by his wife, Bettye Redmond Berry; one son, James C. Berry and his wife Helen of Cookeville, TN; two daughters, Jean B. Smith and her husband Dr. Clyde Smith of Jackson, TN and Marilyn B. Adams of Jackson, TN; one brother, Denzil Berry of West Virginia; one sister, Maxine Meadows of West Virginia and eight grandchildren.
Honorary Pallbearers were Garrison Smith, Colin Smith, Nathan Smith, Jace Smith, Michael Adams, Court Adams.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of West Tennessee, 1804 Highway 45 Bypass, Jackson, TN.
Arrington Funeral Directors & Crematory and Lawrence Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.

Marie Ferguson
Marie Ferguson, 94, of Barboursville, went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 28, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 30, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev David Cartwright. Entombment in Woodmere Memorial Park Abbey of Remembrance. She was born February 27, 1907, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Walter and Mary May Ferguson Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wyatt Ferguson; one son, Wyatt Ferguson Jr., and two brothers, Kenneth and Norman Johnson. She was a member of the former St. Luke United Methodist Church, the Beverly Hill’s Garden Club, and the Huntington Woman’s Club. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Alice Mae and Raymond Cartwright of Huntington; one sister, Pauline Moore of Huntington; one granddaughter, Judy Ann Walker of Cary, N.C.; one grandson, Marshall Cartwright and his wife Aimee of Barboursville; Peter Walker of Cary, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Alica Marie Walker, Leigh Ann Walker, Christopher Walker, Jason Cartwright and his wife Michele, and Wyatt Cartwright; and one great-great-granddaughter, Lauren Cartwright.

Mary Alice Fizer
Mary Alice Fizer, 80, of Barboursville, died Sunday, January 27, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 30, 2002, at Henson Mortuary with Pastor Danny Ford officiating. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. She was born August 31, 1921, in Barboursville, daughter of the late Claude and Dorothy Steele Lipscomb. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Rufus, Everett and Claude Lipscomb; and two husbands, Ernest “Squirrely” Cazad and Granville “Shorty” Fizer. She was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, Myron Cazad of Barboursville; one daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Don Baker of Bishopville, S.C.; two sisters, Jean Black of Ona and Frances Hobbs of Huntington; three brothers, Glen “Birdie” Lipscomb of Barboursville, Bobby Lipscomb of Huntington and Jack Lipscomb of Louisa, KY; three grandchildren, Lea Kimler of Cherry Point, N.C., Myra Bartilson of Scott Depot, W.Va., and Shannon Cazad of Hurricane, W.Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Logan Kimler and Ben Bartilson.
