Jeffrey R. Bogan
Jeffrey R. Bogan, 39, of Scott Depot died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, in CAMC General Division.
He was a chemical engineer for Dow Chemical, Institute. He was a member of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral, where he was a middle school soccer coach, the coach of Great Teays Soccer League, basketball coach for Sacred Heart grade school and was a Eucharist minister. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati.
Surviving: wife, Debbie; father and mother, Bob and Sis Brogan of Struthers, Ohio; children, Zachary Eli Bogan and Andrew Robert Bogan; sister, Jill Durkin of Boardman, Ohio; brothers, Russ Bogan of Hilliard, Ohio and Scott Bogan of Struthers.
Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, September 21, 2002, at Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral with Father P. Edward Sadie officiating. Entombment was in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Charleston. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Coach Jeff Bogan Fund, c/o City National Bank, 715 Lee Street, Charleston WV 25301, or to Sacred Heart Needy Student Fund for Charleston Catholic High School and Sacred Heart Grade School, c/o Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral, 1032 Virginia Street E, Charleston WV 25301.

Sophia D. Smith
Sophia Dolores Smith, 90, of Teays Valley, formerly of Alum Creek, died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and a member of Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church and Dunbar Eastern Star.
Surviving: daughter, Janet Perry of Scott Depot; niece, Jean Tauck of California.
Service was held Friday, September 20, 2002, at Curry Funeral home, Alum Creek, with Pastor David Cyphers officiating. Burial was in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Hansel Bennett
Hansel Bennett, 90, of Hurricane, formerly of Whitmer, died Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at Teays Manor, Hurricane.
He was retired from the U.S. Forest Service. He was a Protestant and resident of Putnam County since April 2001.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Bennett, and a son, Glenn Bennett.
Surviving: daughter, Carolyn Jones of Rockville, Maryland; daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Chris Schaefer of Salem, Oregon; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Nancy Bennett of Eleanor, Frank and Rhoda Bennett of Hinton, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Saturday, September 21, 2002, at Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Joe Mininger officiaitng. Burial was in Northfork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of local arrangements. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Teays Manor, PO Box 1045, Hurricane WV 25526.

Virginia Waddell
Virginia Browne Waddell, 81, of Charlotte, North Carolina, formerly of Winfield, died September 20, 2002.
She was born October 24, 1920, a daughter of the late Marco and Maude Jarrell Browne. She was the widow of the late Floyd E. Waddell.
She was a retired dental assistant and a graduate of Winfield High School.
Surviving: daughter, Madlyn W. Gay of Charlotte; two grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Monday, September 23, 2002, at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, was in charge of arrangements.

Tina Renee Perry
Tina Renee Perry, 26, of Branchland passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. David Caldwell and the Rev. Larry Perry. Burial in Perry Cemetery. She was born March 9, 1976, in Huntington, a daughter of Charles and Barbara Leep Perry of Branchland. She was an employee of King’s Daughters Medical Center and was a member of Salem United Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Oris and Fern Leep. Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Angie and Tracy Shumway of Catlettsburg, Ky.; one brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Christi Perry of Salt Rock; paternal grandparents, the Rev.Arnold and Estelle Bartram Perry of Huntington; three special nephews, Christopher, Corey and Tracy Garrett; a special niece, Brittany; and Tina’s fiancÈ Brent Aldridge and his daughter Sara of Ashland, Ky.; several uncles, aunts and cousins. Cousins served as pallbearers.

Gerald E. “Jerry” Woyan
Gerald E. “Jerry” Woyan, 47, of Ashton passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2002 in Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at Heck Home, Milton. Burial in Pete Meadows Cemetery, Ashton. He was born July 3, 1955, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Rena Woyan. Jerry was a 1973 graduate of Hannan High School. He was an insurance salesman for Liberty Life Insurance, Scott Depot. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Tom and Ethel Woyan of Wellston, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Paula Woyan of Charleston; nephew, Steven; niece Jessica; long time companion Theresa Roy of Huntington and several aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Lillian V. Chapman
Lillian V. Chapman, 82, of Culloden passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral service were conducted Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born June 23, 1920, in Cabell County, W.Va., daughter of the late William and Nellie Davis Nibert. She retired from Morris Memorial Nursing Home. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Roger Peyton of Culloden; and two grandchildren, Melissa Peyton of Culloden and Scott Peyton of Beckley.

Earl Edward Jordan
Earl Edward Jordan, passed away Sept. 18, 2002 in LaGrange, Georgia, formerly of Louisa Ky. He was born in Sandusky, Ohio, to the late Earl Jordan and Neva Robinette of Odessa Texas. She has one brother, Joe Jordan of Sandusky, Ohio and one sister of Louisa KY and two children of Virginia, Cristal and Jaread Jordan. Also surviving his former wife Dottie Horn Jordan of Louisa Ky.; cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews of Louisa, KY, Sandusky, Ohio and Texas. He was formerly employed by B&K Construction in Georgia.

Heaven Serina Steward
Heaven Serina Steward, infant daughter of Christopher Shane Steward of Salt Rock and Charlene Jeanette Knipp of Huntington passed away on Sept. 17, 2002. Graveside services were conducted Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, by the Rev. Herb Nida at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She is also survived by her maternal grandparents, George and Judith Knipp of Huntington; paternal grandparents, the Rev. Junior and Joann Steward of Salt Rock; aunts and uncles, Rodney Stewart of Salt Rock, Mike and Vicky Steward of Salt Rock, Charles and Tayebh Knipp of Nebraska, David and Kimberly Wilson and Dr. George II and Heather Knipp, all of Barboursville; cousins Matthew Wilson of Barboursville, Morgan Steward of Salt Rock and Haley Knipp of Guyandotte. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy M. Thompson
Dorothy M. Thompson, 71, of Salt Rock, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, September 19, 2002 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born Dec. 26, 1930, in Huntington, a daughter of the late William A. and Nannie May McBride Fleming. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Andrew Thompson; and one brother, Robert Lee Fleming. She is survived by two sisters, Nancy Seay of Florida and Pauline Hutchinson of Pratt, W.Va.; one brother, Otis H. Fleming of Huntington; and her caregiver, Helen Adkins.

Francis Miller
Francis Miller, infant son of Dr. Stephen and Kim Constantino Miller, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Graveside service were conducted Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington, by Father Joseph Peterson. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Inday Noel Constantino. In addition to his parents, he is survived by grandparents, Dr. F.A. Constantino of Huntington, and Blaine and Chestene Miller of Proctorville, Ohio. Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Lloyd S. Owen
Lloyd S. Owen, 81, of Scott Depot died September 4, 2002, at Putnam General Hospital.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Hurricane. He was retired from C&P Telephone with 41 years of service and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II.
Surviving: wife, Dorothy Jordan Owen; sons, William Dennis Owen of Tabernacle, New Jersey and Kenneth R. Owen of Overland Park, Kansas; sister, Martha Urban of Florida; six grandchildren.
Service was held Saturday, September 7, 2002, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Millard Mitchell officiating. Entombment was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Rev. Cladis D. Paxton
The Rev. Cladis D. Paxton, 89, of Bancroft died September 8, 2002, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was a 62-year resident of Bancroft, was retired from American Viscose with 35 years of service and a member of American Textile Workers, AFL-CIO and the Hometown Senior Citizens and Choir. He was a member of the Bancroft Church of God Mission. He was an ordained minister of the Church of God Mission Organization, having pastored Valley Drive Church of God Mission and Clark Memorial Church of God Mission.
Surviving: daughters, Shirley Lorrison of Muncie, Indiana and Janet Saunders of Poca; sons, James Paxton of Red House and Paul Paxton of Bancroft; sisters, Wanda Harper of Walton and Thelma Canterbury Paynter of Charleston; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Service was held Tuesday, September 10, 2002, at Bancroft Church of God Mission with Paul Arthur officiating. Burial was in Schowen Cemetery, Bancroft. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

William E. Davis Sr.
William E. “Bill” Davis Sr., 71, of Columbus, Ohio died September 4, 2002, at Cleveland Viginia Medical Center.
He grew up in Buffalo, West Virginia and served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elias Davis and Bertha Craig Davis of Buffalo.
Surviving: daughter: Debra Davis; sons, William E. (Carla) Davis Jr. of Columbus and Joe (Laura) Davis of Locebourne Ohio; six grandchildren; sister, Agnes (Richard) Whittington of Fairfield, Ohio; four nieces, Soni, Sandi, Linda and Lana; uncle, Larry Craig of Carrol, Ohio; aunt, Dolly Craig Newbanks of Waterford, Michigan; many other relatives, friends and family.
Service was held Friday, September 7, 2002, at Greenwood Cemetery, near Buffalo, with Pastor Wayne Burch officiating. Graumlich & Son Funeral Home, Columbus, was in charge of arrangements.

Brenda J. Morris
Brenda J. Morris, 52, of Poca died September 14, 2002.
She retired from Flexsys with 22 years of service and was a member of Dunbar Mountain Mission.
She was preceded in death by her nephew and special buddy, Brian Lindsey.
Surviving: husband, Clyde White; son and daughter-in-law, Shane M. and Sarah Morris of Cross Lanes; daughter, Heidi L. Morris of Dunbar; parents, William “Red” and Frances Warner of Poca; sister, Barbara Pauley of Charleston; sister and brother-in-law and special caregivers, Jeanie and Carl Lindsey of Poca; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tyke and Angie Warner of Poca, Jerry and Anne Warner of Lewisburg.
Service was held Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at Dunbar Mountain Mission with Pastor Billy Lucas and Pastor Mike Harper officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, was in charge of arrangements.

Grace P. Brown
Grace P. Brown, 84, of Hurricane died Friday, September 6, 2002, in Riverside Nursing Home after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and a member of Middle Run Baptist Church in Braxton County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin H. Brown; her parents, Spurgeon William and mammie Keener Pierson; brothers, Walter James Pierson and William Burk Pierson; sisters, Ina and Mabel Pierson.
Surviving: sisters, Dottie Dunlap of St. Albans, Hazel Baughman of Tornado and Katherine Mills of Culloden; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held Sunday, September 8, 2002, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes. Entombment was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

J. Willard Deal
J. Willard Deal, 86, of Poca died September 12, 2002, in Putnam General Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Poca, a coal miner, and a former employee of Upton Construction Company. He attended Raymond City Community Church and Lett Creek Community Church.
Surviving: daughters, Elma Hornish of Poca and Wanda Deal of Nitrop; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Saturday, September 14, 2002, at Gatens Funeral Home Chapel, Poca, with the Rev. John McCoy and the Rev. Willard Beller officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
