Donna Ann Young, 29, of Milton died Tuesday, February 11, 2003, at CAMC General Division.
She was a salesperson in real estate.
Surviving: father and stepmother, Dallas H. and Claudia Young Sr. of Hurricane; twin brother, Donald Lynn Young of Hurricane; brother, Dallas H. Young Jr. of Hurricane; paternal grandparents, Tom and Sarah Young of Fraziers Bottom; uncles and aunts, Dannie Lee and Phyllis Gillispie, Jack and Barbara Rose, Bill and Frances Young; cousins, Dannie Dwain Gillispie, Sherri Lynn Setliff, Jackie Lee Rose Jr., B.J. Young and April Simpson.
Service was held Sunday, February 16, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Pastor Winford Curry officiating. Burial was in Young’s Family Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom.

Phyllis C. Curry
Phyllis C. Curry, 69, of Hurricane died February 12, 2003, at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Lois Kirkpatrick of Scott Depot, after a long illness.
She was born April 26, 1933, a daughter of the late James and Thelma Woods Kirkpatrick. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Curry.
She was a retired licensed practical nurse with CAMC Memorial and General divisions with 30 years of service.
Also surviving: daughters and son-in-law, Fontaina Scott of Pliny, Renee and Montgomery Vickers of Hurricane; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Debbie Curry of Proctorville, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Yulonda and Chuck Gancs of Sissonville; grandchildren, Kelly Dawn, Justin, Aarron, Amber and Tracey.
Service was held Sunday, February 16, 2003, at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Glasgow, with Pastor Charles V. Williams officiating.

Joseph H. Jefferson
Joseph H. Jefferson, 52, of Milton, W.Va. On Feb. 9. 2003, our beloved brother Joseph went home to our mother and father. He was born March 31, 1950, a son of the late Delbert and Lottie Ball Jefferson. He was a wonderful son and brother. He is also preceded in his death by one brother, Delbert Jefferson Jr. He is survived by five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Louise Jefferson, Brenda Jefferson, Mary Spurlock, Bonnie and Shawn Ayers, all of Milton and Carolyn and Michael Lewis of Huntington; four brothers, James Jefferson, Othel Jefferson and Worthey Jefferson, all of Milton, Roger Jefferson of Huntington; two nieces Jamie Lyn Chapman of Milton, Kristina Hires of Apache, Ariz.; one nephew, James Jefferson Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; many cousins and friends. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Richard Black officiating. Burial in Balls Chapel Cemetery, Ashton. IN MEMORY: Joseph was a wonderful big brother, he was the eldest living of eleven children, when our parents passed away he and I made a special promise to each other that we would hold our family together. Although struggling with our loss he kept that promise until he, too, was called home, now it is I who must fulfill that promise in honor of our mother and father, and brother. We were blessed with the time we all had together, and as we each one by one are called home we will hold our memories forever in our hearts. We love you and miss you. Your sisters and brothers.

Cecily Jill Jarboe Warren
Cecily Jill Jarboe Warren, 46, of Huntington, passed away Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral liturgy was conducted Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Huntington, with Monsignor Lawrence Luciana, Celebrant. Entombment in White Chapel Last Supper Mausoleum, Barboursville. She was born Feb. 19, 1956, in Louisville, Ky, the daughter of Jean Elizabeth (Betty) Saizan Jarboe of Huntington, and the late John William Jarboe Sr. She was a Gift Shop volunteer at St. Mary’s Medical Center, former Cabell County Paramedic, and an Elector at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Jessica Warren at home and Kimberly Jill Ankney of Honolulu, Hawaii; one son Michael Joseph Warren of Boulder, Colo.; two sisters, Clere J. Hoskins of Cleveland, Tenn., Leisa Jean Jarboe of Greenville, S.C. She was preceded by a brother, John W. Jarboe Jr. Rosary service was held Tuesday, February 11, 2003. Marion C. Davis
Marion C. Davis, 65, of Poca died February 1, 2003, at home following a long illness.
He was retired from Pepsi Cola Company after 21 years of service and a member of Teamsters Local 175 and of Kings’ Way Christian Church. He was a former boxing coach of many young men of this area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rubin and Oma Davis, sister, Marjorie Milhour, brothers, Carmet, Charles and Gene Davis, and son-in-law, Randall Lee Haynes.
Surviving: wife of 46 years, Rosalie; daughters, Kathy Marietta of Nitro and Deborah Haynes of Cross Lanes; grandchildren, Angela and Buck Hill of Nitro, Shawna and Richard Lane of Sissonville, Marian and Choladej Chandarason of Cross Lanes, Valene Marietta of Nitro, and Jon Haynes of Cross Lanes; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Tom Davis of Nitro and Clarence Davis of Winfield; sisters, Betty Carpenter of Poca River, Dorothy Orsulaka of Florida and Brenda White of St. Albans; special friend, Richard Bagent.
Service was held Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastors David McVey, Gene Brooks and Russ Star officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.

Paul E. Fowler
Paul E. Fowler, 68, of Buffalo died February 2, 2003 in St. Mary’s Hospital following a long illness.
He was a retired professional truck driver, a member of Teamsters Local 175, Charleston, and a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Fowler, and a sister, Arlene Fowler Smith.
Surviving: wife, Cynthia Johns Fowler; daughters, Bonnie Jo Heron of Mason, Amy Beth Bucklen of San Antonio, Texas, and Emily Jo Fowler of Teays Valley; son, Roger P. Fowler of Waterville, Maine; brother, Harold Fowler of Eleanor; four grandchildren.
Service was held Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Wayne Burch officiating. Burial was in Cross Creek Cemetery.

Harry L. Staats
Harry L. “Sonny” Staats, 66, of Buffalo died February 3, 2003, in Teays Valley Center following a short illness.
He was a deckhand for the Ohio River Barge Company, a member of the “Polar Bears” swimming team and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
Surviving: sister, Anna Lee Hughes of London, Kentucky; brother, Frank Staats of Hortense, Georgia; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held Thursday, February 6, 2003, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Wayne Burch officiating. Burial was in Showen Hill Cemetery, Bancroft.

Benjamin “Web” Skeen
Benjamin “Web” Skeen, 80, of Winfield died February 3, 2003, after a short illness.
He was a field representative for the U.S. Department of Labor, former secretary/treasurer of the WV AFL-CIO, a member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge 170, Nitro, and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in deaty by his first wife, Mabel Sayre Skeen.
Surviving: wife, Janet A. Skeen of Winfield; daughters, Patricia Skeen and Lynette Shaw, both of Cross Lanes; sons, Jerry of South Charleston, David of Harpers Ferry, Ronald of Parkersburg, and Richard of Vienna; stepsons, Curtis Rucker of Wytheville, Virginia and Ken Rucker of Dunbar; sister, Marie Skeen of Ripley; brother, Raymond Skeen of Evans; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Service was held Friday, February 7, 2003, at Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Bruce Young, Pastor Gerald Sayre and Homer Fink officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, was in charge of arrangements.

Gene Ashworth
Gene R. Ashworth, 80, of Winfield, formerly of St. Albans, died February 6, 2003, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was born February 1, 1923 in St. Albans, a son of the late Joseph L. and Bertha Johnson Ashworth. He was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Christin Kirtley.
He was a member, deacon and former Sunday school teacher and superintendent at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans. He was a former sales manager with many automotive dealerships. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge.
Surviving: wife, Betty McClure Ashworth; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Sue ad Fred Taraschi of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Beverly Ann and Roger Loftis of St. Albans, Barbara Jean and Barry Stump of Pauley’s Island, South Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph E. and Patty Ashworth of Winfield; sisters, Juanita Adam and Helen Williams, both of Sarasota, Florida; brothers, Leonard Ashworth of South Charleston and Harold Ashworth of Cross Lanes; grandchildren, Chris, James, Teresa, Jeffery, Brady, Brooke, Elizabeth, Meredith, Danielle, Evan, Natalie and Julie; great-grandchildren, Bret, Matthew, Nicholas, Hannah, Jonah and Caroline.
Service was held Sunday, February 9, 2003, at Highlawn Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Hyde officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans, was in charge of arrangements.

Carl Erwin
Carl Erwin, 83, of Winfield died February 6, 2003.
He was born May 15, 1919, a son of the late Pearl and Carrie Edith Call Erwin. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Ima Leadmon Erwin and Ethel Casto Erwin; two infant sisters, Wanda and Lorene Erwin; sister, Doris Erwin Whitt; brothers, Lonnie, Gordon, Elvin, Robert, A.H. “Bud” and Dorsel “Red” Erwin.
He was a farmer and retired construction laborer from the John Amos Power Plant. He was a member of Adda Baptist Church, Hurricane.
Surviving: special friend, Irene Stover of Winfield; sisters, Helen Hodges of Hurricane, Eunice Sovine of Milton and Shirley Conard of Hurricane; brother, Chalmer Erwin of Hurricane; and a host of other family and friends.
Service was held Sunday, February 9, 2003, at Adda Baptist Church with the Rev. Forrest Curry officiating. Burial was in Holley Cemetery, Hurricane.

Mark Allen Jones
Mark Allen Jones, 49, of Winfield died February 5, 2003, at his home after a long illness.
He was born April 29, 2003 in Columbus, Ohio, a son of Herbert A. and Alma Jones of Sunbury, Ohio.
He was a member of Maranatha Fellowship, St. Albans, and was a territory manager for Pittsburgh Paint and Glass. He had a lifelong love of racing and was a member of the Kanawha Valley Dragway Association were he was named Sportsman of the Year for 2002. He was owner/driver of Crossroads Racing and traveled the racing circuit along the East Coast.
Surviving in addition to his parents are daughters, Dee Dee Jones of Columbus, Ohio and Sarah Jones of Huntington; sisters, Donna Burler and Elaine Wolfe, both of Sunbury; grandchildren, Hunter Wymer of Huntington and Chloe Jones-McCuen of Columbus.
Service was held Sunday, February 9, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Pastor Wayne Booth officiating. Burial was in Trenton Township Cemetery, Trenton Township, Ohio.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mark Jones Memorial Fund, 2182 Maxwell Avenue, Lewis Center OH 43035.

Virginia Banks
Virginia “Grandma” Banks, 85, of Hurricane died February 9, 2003, in St. Mary’s Hospital.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Louise Lawson, and sons, Edward and Wayne Lawson.
Surviving: son and wife, John and Sue Lawson of Hurricane; daughters-in-law, Vio Lafferty of Hurricane and Clarice Lawson of North Olmstead, Ohio; sister, Elnora Moses of Carrollton, Georgia; grandchildren, Carol Blevins, Cynthia Surma, David Lawson, Vivian Wood, Joe Lawson, Rebecca Harless, Welsey Lawson, Lisa Lawson, and Carl Lee Lawson; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Tuesday, February 11, 2003, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Clifford W. Hall
Clifford Woodrow Hall, 89, of Hurricane died February 8, 2003, in Putnam General Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born September 19, 1913 in Yawkey, Lincoln County, the son of the late Charles J. and Effie Mitchell Hall.
He was a 1932 graduate of East Bank High School and attended West Virginia Institute of Technology, West Virginia State College and Morris Harvey College. He was a retired production supervisor in fine chemicals from Union Carbide Corporation, South Charleston, with 42 years of service. Upon his retirement, he spent much of his time enjoying his favorite hobby, gardening. He was a 33-year resident of Hurricane and a member of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church, Scott Depot.
Surviving: his wife of 67 years, Virginia F. Hall; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith W. and Bette Hall of St. Albans, Larry D. Hall of Sugarland, Texas, Paul W. and Carolyn Hall of Scott Depot; grandchildren, David Hall of New Orleans, Louisiana, Susan Treen of Alum Creek, Marilyn Hall of St. Albans, Dean Kinder of St. Albans, Stephanie Hensley of Nitro, Chris Hall of Houston Texas, Kim McCord of Houston, Texas, Tracie Hall of Cross Lanes, and Steven Hall of Scott Depot; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Brittany Treen of Alum Creek, Marissa and Sean Kinder of St. Albans, Autumn and Ashley Hensley of Nitro; sister-in-law and her husband, Fern and Harold Swisher of South Charleston; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held Wednesday, February 12, 2003, at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jerry Harrah and the Rev. George Bendall officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie Lilly Clark
Bonnie Lilly Clark, 101, of Teays Valley died February 7, 2003.
Service was held Monday, February 10, 2003, at Rose & Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring.

Sarah Canfield
Sarah Canfield, 90, formerly of Ona, mother of Betty Bracaloni of Ona, died Monday, February 3, 2003 in Arlington, VA. She was a receptionist for the CIA. Memory Celebration was held Tuesday, February 11, at Beulah Ann Baptist Church, Ona. Funeral services will be held Feb. 19, at Old Post Chapel, Fort Myers, Va.; burial in Arlington National Cemetery. Arlington Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Blaine H. Hamilton
Blaine H. Hamilton, 69, of Huntington, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at the Veterans Medical Center after losing a courageous battle with cancer. Graveside services were conducted at the Abbey of Peace Mausoleum, Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington by the Rev. Ray Vance. He was born July 13, 1933, in Elkins, WV, a son of the late Blaine H. and Jane McKinley Hamilton. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Hamilton was a member of the the Freewill Baptist Church in Guyandotte. He was preceded in death by Betty Roy, Eva Simmons, Juanita Hodges, Margaret “Peg” Mills and Dorothy Adkins. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Joe Hanks of Huntington; brother-in-law, E.A. Mills; special nieces, Vickie Collins, Sandy Blake and Bobbie Mills; special friend and longtime companion, Edna Stump; and a host of friends. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Angel Mae McCoy
Angel Mae McCoy, infant daughter of Zachary Kemp McCoy and Jenny Rae McCoy of Huntington, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Fellowship Baptist Church, Barboursville, by Dr. Jerry Warren. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park. Also surviving are one brother, Austin Taylor McCoy; maternal grandparents, Greg and Helen Howard of Huntington, paternal grandparents, Rex and Kathy McCoy of Barboursville. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.
